Months of research and a year work for Mahanati’s Costumes

Legendary actress Savitri’s biopic Mahanati is one of the awaited summer releases this year. Nag Ashwin took enough time to script the film after which Mahanati has been under shoot for a year. Designer Gaurang Shah is making his debut as costume designer with this film and he said that it was a challenging job. It took months of research initially to know about the actress and her life story.

Gaurang Shah revealed that over 100 artisans took a year to design the complete wardrobe of Mahanati. With the shoot left uninterrupted, the designer made sure that the clothes are ready as per the planned schedules. Each and every detail of the design, textile and texture were studied after which they have been recreated. Several silk fabrics from Kanchipuram and Benares were imported informed the ace designer.

Keerthy Suresh reprised Savitri on screen and Mohan Babu, Prakash Raj, Dulquer Salman, Samantha and Vijay Devarakonda played other pivotal roles. Bankrolled by Vyjayanthi Movies, Mahanati has been slated for May 9th release. The film has been shot simultaneously in Telugu and Tamil languages and Mahanati will release in Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam languages as well.
