Hyderabad: Even while Indians are all ‘fired up’ over American Presidential elections on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late night address created chaos when he said that Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 would have no further value since the government is poised to curb black money.

As the news spread like a wildfire, the discussion on the issue took the centrestage. Discussions on American elections replaced with the issue of banning currency notes came to the fore. While the news channels are continuously running news stories seeking their opinions on the consequences of the ban, netizens actively took part in WhatsApp groups, facebook and twitter sharing their opinions and suggestions.

Meanwhile, shopkeepers and petrol pump operators in Hyderabad city made a killing on Tuesday night demanding commission from the consumers citing that Rs 500 has no value. There were instances where people had to shell out Rs 100 as commission to the petrol pumps for the bill of Rs 400.

“I towed my vehicle home all the way from the petrol bunk when they refused to accept Rs 500,” said an irritated Shushanth Ajmera who works for a private insurance firm in the city.

Some vehicles, which had planned for outstation family trip, are taken by surprise when the petrol bunks refused to take Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 on Tuesday night which prompted them to drop their plan.

Facebook, WhatsApp groups are flooded with memes, images, texts; trolling the decision of PM Modi to ban currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000. One meme of liquor baron Vijay Mallya, which is going viral in social media, tells – Vijay Mallya called up the SBI and says, “I am ready to pay all my debts but only in cash of Rs 500 & Rs 1,000.”

Another meme introduces Telangana CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s witty side to the netizens. In the image KCR says: RBI గవర్నర్ నాకు మంచి దోస్త్ లెక్క !! మన పార్టీ రంగులో మంచిగా గుద్దించిన కొత్త Rs 2,000 నోట్లు!!

After a very long gap, Leader of the Opposition in AP Assembly and YSRCP chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s ‘Odarpu Yatra’ image evoked laughter among the social media users, however, this time it is reverse ‘Odarpu Yatra’ where in people are seen consoling Jagan in the wake of the ban on currency notes.
