AP has political space for the emergence of Third Force : Study

A study conducted by Centre for Media Studies (CMS) on the impact of Chandrababu Naidu’s government indicated that there is scope for the emergence of third political force in Andhra Pradesh. According to the study, conducted across ten districts in Andhra Pradesh, even though Naidu’s stalk had not improved, the opposition YSRC also failed grow to become an alternative to TDP.

The study had been conducted on the completion of two years by TDP government led by chief minister Chadrababu Naidu.

The results of the study have been released by CMS director Dr M. Bhaskar Rao. According to Rao the AP scene today is both confusing and contradictory. Dr Rao says the field study was conducted in mid-March 2016 at two levels, first with opinion makers at district level, who are not functionaries of any political party and then with carefully selected voters, who were personally interviewed using a structured questionnaire with the scope for spontaneous responses. ” The study is an independent exercise of CMS and was based on time tested three SSS model (Size, Spread and Selection) methodology,” he said.

Salient features of the study:

*Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu’s priorities and preoccupations are not so much appreciated in the state of Andhra Pradesh. There is no indication that the TDP Government can do away  with corruption tag.

*Despite declaration of his assets regularly, the Chandrababu Government is not looked any differently than other corruption ridden regimes or leaderships in the eye of the public. Services of Revenue Department continue to be viewed in particular as most corrupt, followed by police, as ever before. Even education and health services are referred in this regard.

*There is no indication that Chandrababu has consolidated his political prospects in the State commensurate with his never ending tours across the state.

*Though the sincerity of chief minister Chandrababu Naidu is not doubted, his priorities and preoccupations are not so much appreciated by 50 pc of the people interviewed for the survey.

*A significant percent of farmers continue to be restless or disappointed with Government policies. A significant percent think that not everything the Government is doing about is being revealed to the public.

* One third of the people are of the opinion that all districts are not being developed equally, a majority expect better “bhavishyat” for the State.

* On political front, more than half of respondents think that TDP has not gained in its public standing during the two year period it has been in power. But solace for Naidu is that Jagan’s YSR Congress has not gained either, indicating of a vacuum in political arena.

* What is interesting is that majority of the respondents from Andhra Pradesh perceive that Telengana State is doing better and its TRS government performance is seen as more adoptive and inclusive.

*Efforts of Naidu in building the world-class capital Amaravati are appreciated. But people are not overwhelmed about the hype being created about the capital. People of the State are not sure of having a “better Government” or a “more responsive and accessible Government” after Amaravati.
