Story:
Biker is the story of Sunil Narayan (Rajasekhar) and his son Vikas Narayan (Sharwanand). Sunil Narayan aka Bullet Sunil is a Champion when the country isn’t aware of Bike Racing. Sunil turns Coach for his son Vicky and trains him rigorously in the sport. He dreams of his son turning a Champion and finds a Sponseror. Vicky is in love with Ananya (Malavika Nair) and he gets married to her without the knowledge of his father. An unexpected incident puts Sunil and Vicky away from racing and they part ways. The rest of Biker is all about how they return back to Bike Racing forms the story of the film.
Analysis:
In a sports drama, the narration has to be engaging and the emotion has to reach the audience. Biker director Abhilash made sure that both these elements were well presented. Racing is not a famous sport in India and it is a challenge to introduce the sport to the audience. Without going into too much technical detail, the film has to keep the audience engaging. The ups and downs of the lead actor along with the emotional stuff have to be hard-hitting and the director made sure that Biker had all these needed elements throughout the film.
Apart from the sport, the father – son emotional drama played a key role in the film. The bonding between them is well presented. A father’s dream of taking his son to international racing and the son working hard to rectify the mistakes done are well shown. The episodes between Rajasekhar and Sharwanand are impressive. Without any loudness, the bond between them is shown well. Even during the climax, after the victory of his son, the father walks to him and gives a hug. The story starts on a simple and the film takes the main track after the entry of Sunil Narayan. The flashback episodes are good. Biker is packed with various layers of emotions and before the audience would get into the first, the second story comes. The racing episodes are presented very well. The action choreography has been top class.
Biker is a first of its kind Motocross Racing film made in Telugu cinema. The conflict point is not strong enough and it looks forced. Vicky leaving racing looks like a convenient writing and the conflict point is completely predictable. The episodes between Rajasekhar and his grandson offer a great relief for the audience. The climax is packed with a long race and it was shot well and it is the major highlight of Biker.
Performances:
Sharwanand worked hard for the film. His transformation and makeover have to be mentioned. His hard work is seen on screen in every frame. He lost 23 kgs for the role. Sharwanand is one of the best actors and he can emote any role well. But he was not utilized emotionally. Rajasekhar is apt for the role of his father and his looks are good. He added stature for the role and dominated most of the episodes. Malavika Nair has a regular heroine’s role and she was good. Atul Kulkarni looks stylish as a baddie and Brahmaji gets a supporting role.
Biker is a technically sound film. The cinematography work is good and the racing episodes are well presented. Ghibran’s background score is one of the major highlights of the film. The Editing work is good and the dialogues are good enough. Director Abhilash Reddy has partially translated the emotion onto the screen and he should have worked on the emotional part and the conflict track. Biker has a strong emotion which is partially shown on screen. The team worked hard to present Bike Racing on screen and they have delivered a decent product.
