Believe it or not, buffalo meat is also one of the reasons for the good financial health of the Bharatiya Janata party. Though the party leaders in Hyderabad might have scuttled a section of Osmania Univesity Students’ attempt to celebrate the beef festival, the Saffron party had no hesitation to take donations from Buffalo Meat Exporters . Recently, it was revealed that the BJP tops the list of parties that got donations in hundreds of crores. As per the records made available by the Election Commission of India, the BJP got Rs 2.5 crore as donation from the buffalo meat exporters. The donation figures in the contribution reports submitted by the political parties to the Election Commission of India.
Under Section 29C of the Representation of People Act, 1951, it is compulsory for political parties to disclose the source of donations that are worth over Rs 20,000 in order to enjoy 100 % tax exemption and the saffron party listed the companies as donors in its contribution reports.
According to details of donations received by EC , three companies Frigorifico Allana Ltd, Frigerio Converva Allana Ltd and Indagro Foods Ltd. donated Rs 2 crore to the Saffron party in 2013-14 and Rs 50 lakh in 2014-15.
