Centre approves two capital road projects in AP

Ministry of roads and surface transport, Govt of India approved a proposal to convert Andhra Pradesh state highways to national highways. Minister Nitin Gadkari, minister for roads and transport informed this to Andhra Pradesh government today by writing a letter.

The Roads approved are:

1. Connecting Anantapur with new capital Amaravathi via Kurnool NH 44 Connecting NH 65, 452 km: 2. Kurnool, Kadapa, Ananthapur NH 40 connecting NH 65, 132 kms

The cost of the project is Rs.1000 cr. Conversion of 4 lane to 6 and 8 lanes will be part of the project. National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will commence the work once state government would give the land. The project will be taken up under PPP mode.

According to sources in chief minister’s office the union minister Gadkari also agreed to in principle to the proposed ORR of 186 kms around the New capital of AP Amaravati.

” Both, the state and the centre, are working with a concept that it should not take more than 4 to 5 hours for the  people from Srikakulam, Anantapur, Kurnool and Kadapa districts to reach the Capital, Amaravati,” sources said.
