Allu Arjun’s latest release Duvvada Jagannadham took an impressive start at the box office this Friday. Despite mixed reports from its overseas premiers yesterday, the action comedy opened on a strong note in all major areas and emerged as the biggest grosser on opening day in Allu Arjun’s career.
After collecting an impressive $ 310K from its Thursday premiers, DJ broke past the half million dollar mark with a decent $ 210k on Friday taking the tally to $527K ( approx). This is a good start considering the poor word of mouth and also the tough competition from other big releases this week. However, Saturday and Sunday collections will be crucial to decide the fate of the movie in overseas.
While the entertaining elements worked to some extent, the monotonous storyline and the time – tested narration proved to be the weak points for the film.
Directed by Harish Shankar, DJ stars Pooja Hegde as the female lead. Dil Raju is the producer for the film.
