Just as how the Ice Bucket challenge was ‘’the thing’’ a couple of years ago, it is the mannequin challenge that is taking social media by storm. Adding value to this new phenomenon are actors, politicians, sports persons, last but not the least university students, the trendsetting class of the world.

Videos of famous celebrities with the #mannequin challenge have picked up momentum in an unprecedented way. The challenge requires people to be in a standstill position throughout the video shot for a few minutes. People of a group posing with different postures by freezing themselves for a couple of minutes is the funda behind this.

It is said that the video-phenomena was started by a group of students from Florida, USA, at the end of the last month. Within no time, it gained popularity among netizens. Various sports teams have taken up the challenge and posted the video in various social networking sites. They include, Pittsburgh Steelers, Spain national football team and Belgium national football team.

The US presidential elections came in handy for this trend. Team Hillary’s video in a flight left many amused. The first lady of the United States, Michelle Obama also joined the list of celebrities, who took up the fun-filled challenge. The 30 second video featuring Michelle along with the NBA championship basket ball team in the White House with some dramatic music caught the world’s attention. The God of modern football Ronaldo and his pals came up with their mannequin in which the star footballer proudly showed off his well-built physique.

Not to lag behind, Bollywood actors too joined the bandwagon. Jacqueline Fernandez and Varun Dhawan also uploaded their own fun version. Sonakshi Sinha’s instagram upload featuring John Abraham and Tahir Raj Bhasin surely a tantalizing one.

Seems like, people have really taken up the childhood favorite game “freeze” a notch higher.
