Jagan credibility under threat over Special Status

1

CM Jaganmohan Reddy has amply indicated that he is not in a position to force the Centre to fulfill Special Status promise because the BJP got majority on its own. So, this is apparently a closed chapter for the next five years. But the demand is resurfacing each time the Centre comes into picture. Eventually, Special Status is becoming a sort of noose that is tightening around the neck of ruling YCP.

There is no mention of it in the recent Central Budget. Jaganmohan Reddy did not give his comment. His silence raised doubts over his own credibility and value-based politics about which he repeatedly talks. Only his party leaders are expressing disappointment over lack of Special Status now.

YCP MP Mithun Reddy issued a latest statement saying that their party would wage an agitation for Special Status in the Lok Sabha. Under the existing political conditions, there is no scope for YCP other than paying lip service on this issue. Analysts say that Jagan will be facing more challenging problems in the days ahead. The BJP is certain to exploit his CBI assets cases if Jagan’s MPs corner it in Lok Sabha. Jagan might have performed better as an opposition leader but to retain credibility as the head of a ruling regime will not be that easy.
