Jagan padayatra started in the month of November 2017, and so far he covered more than 2,600 km. Until Godavari districts, Jagan’s yatra received good response but it is in these districts Jagan started getting embarrassment and his tour in EG spurred several controversies. Finally, his tour in this district came to an end.

Not much response “after the bridge”:

When Jagan entered East Godavari, there were huge crowds gathered at bridge of Rajahmundry. But after the day on bridge, there was huge drop in number of people attending his yatra for a few days and it was highlighted by some media groups. They highlighted that Jagan got very less seats in coastal districts in 2014 too and obviously, this area is not his forte.

Controversy with comments on Pawan:

It is during this East Godavari tour, YSRCP chief Jagan fired salvos on Pawan Kalyan and he made personal comments on Pawan Kalyan and said Pawan Kalyan has four wives and doesn’t have any moral values. Pawan Kalyan has strong fan base in Godavari districts and Jagan’s comments drew ire from people. Even Sakshi couldn’t highlight Jagan’s comments and downplayed these comments. In fact there was unanimous negative response for these comments and some media channels like AP24x7 revealed, YSRCP leaders are not lifting phone calls to comment on this issue as they are unable to justify Jagan’s comments on Pawan.

U-turn and then another U-turn on Kapu reservations issue

Again, Jagan made one more self goal on Kapu reservations during his tour in EG district. As soon as Jagan entered EG district, Kapu youth asked Jagan to spell his stand on Kapu reservations and they showed placards. But Jagan moved on without responding to them. Then finally he announced that he will not be able to assure on Kapu reservations as it is in the purview of Union government. But Kapu leader Mudragada slammed Jagan for his U-turn on Kapu reservations and questioned, didn’t he know this is in purview of Center earlier when he supported Kapu reservations.

After seeing strong negative response from Kapu community and not garnering any support from BC’s for this announcement, Jagan made another U-turn and told he is committed to Kapu reservations. Jagan changing stand within couple of days earned him lot of criticism.

Overall, Jagan’s tour in East Godavari district brought him more damage than any tour in any other district in the state. We’ll have to wait and see how his north Andhra tour will be.
