Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu’s cabinet is going to take an important decision tomorrow targeting opposition leader Jaganmohan Reddy. The move is to stymie Jagan’s political campaign against chief minister Naidu among an important constituency of the state- students and youth.

In a bid to stop Jagan in his tracks from mobilizing youth and students in the name of jobs, state cabinet is going to clear a proposal to initiate the process of recruitment for various jobs in government. The state government is going to fill about 20,000 vacancies.

Naidu’s government has come in for severe criticism for not filling the vacancies in the government. Naidu, who basically dislikes government jobs, wants the youth and students wait till the Rs 5 lakh crore worth investment-MoU grounded and rain the jobs. He doesn’t want the APPSC start recruitment process. Since there has been no work for the APPSC, its secretary, an extremely honest and efficient officer, Giridhar Aramani, is planning to go on deputation to centre. According to our information, he has already applied for a posting at the centre. If th recruitment is done during Giridhar’s tenure, we can say with certainty, the merit would be upheld. Giridhar is not the one, who is amenable to political pressures at any cost.

In a belated move, Jagan took up the joblessness in the state and but started discussing the matter in the context of special status. Still, his meetings with students at Tirupaiti, Vizag, Kakinada etc, clearly revealed how anxiously the students were waiting for the notifications for jobs from APPSC. Some girl-students cried narrating how important the job was for their families while interacting with Jagan. By these meetings Jagan had really struck a chord with the students.

Having seen impatience among the youth, the opposition party had successfully raised the matter in the Assembly during budget session and staged a walk-out in protest against the CM for not fulfilling his assurances of a job to every family or unemployed allowance. To prevent the Opposition leader from fomenting unrest on the campuses, chief minister Naidu is planning this master stroke to tie down the students and youth to competitive examination and wean away them from Jagan’s campaign for jobs.

As the time passes, the students are bound to grow restive since they have been kept on waiting for years for jobs. In the same way as he is separating MLAs from Jagan, now Naidu wants to keep the youth away from YSRCP activities. Is the government really sincere in filling the vacancies, when the local issue of children of government employees is still pending with centre?
