Four medium budget films, Premam, Abhinetri, Veedu Gold Ehe and Mana Oori Ramayanam have released last Friday. Out of these four films, only Premam managed to hold strength at the box office and the remaining films have performed very badly in all areas in the first weekend.

In overseas, Premam is having a solid run, but Abhinetri and Mana Oori Ramayanam are having a dismal show due to mediocre content and poor publicity. The makers of Sunil’s Veedu Gold Ehe decided not to release the film in overseas.

Naga Chaitanya’s Premam, which opened to unanimous reports all over, is gaining strength at the box office. After collecting a decent $74K from its Thursday premiers, Premam notched up $134K,$191K and $117K on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The film has surpassed half million mark and collected $521K by first weekend( Sunday). The growing word of mouth and the positive reviews have helped the film to hold strength at the box office. Chaitu’s standout performance is the biggest asset for Premam.

Prabhu Deva and Tamannaah starrer Abhinetri, whose premiers were cancelled, collected a measly $ 7,400 including Friday($3522) and Saturday($3974), hence failing to recover the expenses. A better release date and good promotions would have worked in favour of the film.

Prakash Raj’s Mana Oori Ramayanam also failed to collect promising numbers. The film has collected an awful $2,000 and is likely to end as a huge disappointment for the trade circles.

Sunil’s Veedu Gold Ehe, which is having poor show in the Telugu states, didn’t release in overseas. AK Entertainment, run by Anil Sunkara, is the production unit behind ‘Veedu Gold Ehe’. They have cancelled the premieres first and then decided not to release the film, fearing that it might not recover the minimum expenses. They have given the schedules for weekend, but backed out in the last minute. This is a poor strategy, it will definitely effect the overseas business for their next projects.
