The Andhra Pradesh government has given a major boost to the prestigious Polavaram Project by releasing ₹1,000 crore for the rehabilitation and compensation of displaced families. This move has brought much-needed relief to thousands of affected residents.
Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu officially launched the distribution of compensation in Velerupadu, Eluru district. Speaking at the event, he said that the previous YSRCP government had completely neglected the Polavaram Project and failed to deliver compensation to the displaced. He alleged that the then Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy diverted ₹3,385 crore allocated by the Centre for the project’s rehabilitation works.
Ramanaidu stated that the present coalition government under Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is determined to complete the Polavaram Project by December 2027. He assured that the rehabilitation colonies would be ready six months before the project’s completion, with all essential amenities in place for the displaced families. The minister emphasized that there would be no delay in transferring compensation and that the funds were being directly credited to beneficiaries’ accounts.
He added that if any displaced person fails to receive compensation, they can file a complaint through a toll-free number, and the issue will be resolved promptly. Ramanaidu also warned intermediaries against exploiting displaced families, saying non-bailable cases would be filed against such individuals.
With the release of ₹1,000 crore, the total compensation disbursed so far has reached nearly ₹2,600 crore under the Chandrababu Naidu-led government. The Polavaram Project, a lifeline for Andhra Pradesh, is finally regaining momentum as the government intensifies efforts to secure central funds and complete the long-delayed national irrigation project.
