BJP state unit has opened a new front in the ongoing war with Telugu Desam Government in Andhra Pradesh.

Led by senior leader D Purandeswari, the party is going to demand Rs 6000 crore for three new irrigation projects to draw water from Krishna and Tungabhadra to supply not only to Rayalasesema but also to Nellore and Prakasam districts. Of late Purandeswari, who lost 2014 election from Rajampet, is concentrating on finding solutions to the problems of backward Rayalaseema districts.

Today she led a team of BJP leaders to Siddeswaram, Gundrevula and Rajolibanda areas to study the feasibility the of the projects and demand from the local people. The team has state endowment minister P Manikyalarao, state BJP vice president Kapileswaraiah, former MLA Rambhupal Reddy, party secretary Suresh Reddy and senior leader Pocha Brahmananda Reddy as members. In the morning they visited the Siddewaram area and in the afternoon they are scheduled to visit Gundrevula and Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme headworks.

As the attempts to reach out Purandeswari did not materialize due to weak signals at Siddeswaram, telugu360.com spoke to Kapileswariah. According to Kapileswaraiah, TDP perpetuating the same injustice done to the region by previous regimes.” If these three projects had been taken up Rayalaseema would not have had any water problem. But, TDP also has not talked about these projects,” Kapileswaraiah said. ” If we spend Rs 3000 crore on RDS, the state would get 45 TMC of water from Tungabhadra, which could be taken up to Nellore and Prakasam. If a project is built at Gundrevula on Tungabhada, both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh would be benefited. These projects don’t need any clearance as they have assured water,” he said.

As far Siddeswaram, Kapileswaraiah said there had been demand for this project for ages.” People are demanding the government to build a weir on Krishna backwaters from which we can draw about 50 to 60 TMC water. TDP government doesn’t seem to appear serious about these projects,” he alleged. After the visit, the team would try to make a power-point present to chief minister and urge the state government to include these projects in the next budget, he added.
