Salman Khan to Pay 55Cr as Compensation to Distributors of Tubelight

Bollywood box office behemoth Salman Khan has been wreaking havoc at box office every Eid for the past few years with his new films. Taking this into confidence, distributors have bet big on the actor’s this year’s Eid release, ‘Tubelight’. Unfortunately, the film has turned out to be a huge disaster by recovering just 30-40% of the investment.

A kind-hearted Salman Khan, who is also the producer of ‘Tubelight’, has now reportedly agreed to pay Rs 55 crore as compensation for the losses incurred by his film’s distributors. Both a leading national media house and Salman Khan’s father Salim Khan have confirmed the actor’s decision to compensate his distributors.

Tubelight should have done business in the range of Rs 250-270 crore to be called a safe venture but the film is on the brink of ending its theatrical run with dubious collections of Rs 115 crore net approx. at the Indian box office. The film’s performance in overseas is also pretty weak.

Fans generally expect action, songs and punch dialogues from Salman’s films but Tubelight being an emotional drama, that too told in an unconvincing manner, couldn’t strike chord with movie buffs.

The actor will be next seen in ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’, a highly anticipated sequel to his earlier blockbuster ‘Ek Tha Tiger’. Being directed by ‘Sultan’ director Ali Abbas and also starring Katrina Kaif, this action film is slated for release for Christmas this year.
