Taking inspiration from Tamil youth’s protest at Marina beach, Chennai, seeking removal restrictions on Jallikattu sport, the youth in Andhra Pradesh also seems to be moving silently, but strategically to fulfill their aspirations demanding Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh.

Making use of social media platforms, they are now planning for a silent protest at Rama Krishna Beach in Visakhapatnam on January 26, Republic Day. A campaign had begun on social media platforms like WatsApp, Twitter with hashtag #APDemads-SpecialStatus, #APSELFRESPECTMOVEMENT appealing youth to assemble at the Beach on January 26, for a silent protest at 9 am.

They also seeking police support for their silent movement. While it’s not known who started the campaign or who are organising the protest, the “forward” is going viral. It is learnt that a group of youngsters who are active on social media, chanced upon their common opinions about the special category status and started a WhatsApp group and planned the event.

The youth seems to be cautious on danger of giving political colours to such protests. In order to keep away from any political flavour, they urged participants not to carry any party flag. They asked them to attend the event in black shirts, carrying a black flag. They cautioned ‘no fan wars and no party wars’. They also asked the participants to maintain peace and not to damage government properties.
