‘UAE City’ in Amaravati

0

Amaravati

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has enormous admiration for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in general and Dubai in particular. Ever since he visited Dubai in the 1980s as a minister in the NTR cabinet, his liking for the city-state has been growing. During his several official visits as united AP chief minister and talks with Rulers of Emirates, he had nothing but praise for Dubai development and its spectacular success in scripting a growth story on sand.

Once again, he had been to Dubai and Abu Dhabi during his recent whirlwind tour of the US, the UK and the UAE to drum up financial support for his mega plans and to seek massive investments in the cash-strapped state.

If we go by what the Chief Minister had said in Vijayawada on Saturday after his return, the nine-day visit was a mega success. In his own words, “entrepreneurs in the US, UK and Dubai have committed to invest more than $10 billion in the state.” If all the promises made by investors at innumerable meetings and road shows and MoUs signed by big corporations translate into reality, well, Andhra Pradesh will become No 1 state in the country in all spheres of life.

Presenting his vision of AP to an investment road show organised by the Indian Business and Professional Group and the Abu Dhabi Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India in the UAE capital, the Chief Minister had envisaged the state emerging as the best happiness destination in the world by 2050.

“By 2029, Andhra Pradesh will be No 1 not only in economic indicators but also in the happiness index. We will have a happiness department… If all of you bring one industry to Amaravati, then it will become a hub for UAE investment. I want to create a ‘UAE City’ in Amaravati. There will be a direct flight to Amaravati. You may come there in the morning, do your business and return by evening,” the UAE press quoted him as saying.

“I am thinking of creating a UAE task force, which can be in touch with people and investors here. I created one city and will make one more, which will be among the top five cities of the world. I have a proven track record in Hyderabad. I am a believer in development and everything is possible. Amaravati will have nine cities and 27 townships. It will be a hub and other places will be a spoke model.”

This is the first time, probably, Chandrababu Naidu, after coming to power in the bifurcated state, has laid out his grand vision of AP before Indian Diaspora. His critics may pooh-pooh his vision, terming it as too ambitious and impractical. But they have to admit that he is dare to dream and project his vision in a convincing manner which very few Indian leaders are capable of doing.

Reminding the Telugu NRIs in the UAE, a majority of them are working class, that they are not a forgotten lot, the Chief Minister promised insurance, a relief fund and a helpline.

The Chief Minister was obviously impressed –and influenced – by the UAE’s Happiness and Positivity Agenda, conceptualized by Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed, a state programme that works with private establishments for peace and harmony as well as happiness in society. His hub-and-spoke model of development is also an inspiration from Dubai’s plans. For over a decade, Dubai has been pioneering in setting up Internet City, Knowledge City, Fun City, Health City, etc to give an identity to various activities. The Amaravati capital city plan closely follows Dubai model.

His trip was also memorable for the honour — Golden Peacock Award under the category Global Leadership in Public Service and Economic Transformation — he received in London.

Mahaa News 2.0: With blessings from Lokesh moves to Amaravati

0

In an attempt to revive the dwindling Mahaa News, TDP MLA from Parchur Yeluri Sambasiva Rao acquired the channel. Prominent journalist from ABN, Murthy has reportedly joined the channel. It was founded by Inaganti Venkata Rao co-owned by TDP MP Sujana Chowdary.

The channel will operate as purely Andhra Pradesh channel, on the lines of V6 or T-News in Telangana. The channel is acquired for a whopping sum of Rs 55 crore. While Rs 10 crore went in as down payment, the remaining will be apparently cleared in next one year. TDP national general secretary Nara Lokesh reportedly assured Rs 50crore revenues to the channel.

It may be noted that, IVR’s openly showered love for TDP. He wrote books on both Late N T Rama Rao and N Chandrababu Naidu. Though the channel was launched in 2012 with pomp, it failed to appeal the audience. Hope this new change in ownership and incentives from the second head in TDP will resurrect the channel.

Now Rajamouli flew to London to finalize the designs.

Jagan taunts Chandrababu for taking help from Rajamouli on Amaravati

0

Opposition Leader Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy said, “If someone wants to construct a building, they would go to an architect. Whichever movie sets Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu likes, he will call those directors and gives them Amaravati contracts. I have never seen such a person”.

Responding to a question posed by a Civil engineering student at Anantapur YuvaBheri, the YSRCP supremo said, “There is nothing permanent in Amaravati, everything is temporary. Nobody knows where the assembly is where it will come up.”

He jibed that towards the end of his tenure Chandrababu will neither construct a building nor will he do any programme but will indeed show a “cinema” to people of Andhra Pradesh

Jagan said that even the vilest of Chief Ministers would at least construct 4 buildings in the 4 years and call it capital. He alleged that Chandrababu took Rs 2500 crore for construction of capital from the Centre. He also pointed that the Centre is open to give more money provided the state governments submit the bills. Unfortunately, the TDP government doesn’t give bills and the Centre won’t give money.

No setback in financing Amaravati dev, World bank issues a clarification

0

The World Bank issued a clarification on loan arrangement for Amaravati continues and made it clear that the inspection of land pooling will not impact financing the capital construction project.

“We would also like to clarify that the Inspection Panel process does not affect project preparation or implementation, and that, in the case of the Amaravati Sustainable Capital City Development Project, the Bank team will continue to work with the government to strengthen the preparation and design of the Bank-financed investments as per the agreed schedule”, said the press release.

It may be recalled that farmers have written to the world bank that the project about the forceful land acquisition of agriculture lands and resettlement issues. Several reports emerged that financing of the project is dependent on the Inspection Panel report.

However, as per the statement, the board is yet to decide if the Inspection Panel will carry out the investigation or not. Incase the process of due diligence is proposed, the Bank noted that it will take several months and will not impact project preparation activities.

The Bank is preparing an IBRD loan of US$300 million co-financed by a US$200 million loan from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) for Amaravati Capital City development project.

World bank undecided on financing Amaravati

0

The World Bank which submitted its report and recommendations on Amaravati capital constructions, remains undecided on financing the $715 million project.

To ensure compliance and perform the due diligence, the bank and APCRDA have created an action plan to react on the issues raised by the farmers and resettlement.

Even though the bank expressed satisfaction over the preparatory work, the management will decide to proceed with the planned project only after potential project risks and impacts has been analysed and the mitigation measures developed gratify the bank’s standards, reported TOI.

Following the allegations of enforced land-pooling, a team of experts visited Andhra Pradesh. The panel gave a clean chit to the Land Pooling Scheme.

Is TDP Govt deliberately delaying approval of Amaravati designs?

0

Minister P Narayana and officials met director S S Rajamouli at his residence regarding the architecture of Amaravati’s new buildings on Monday, following Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s direction to take inputs for the designs of submitted by London based firm Norman Fosters.

Several sections of the society raised objections and expressed discontent over looping in Rajamouli. It is evident that the final design of Amaravati will not be available anytime in the near future.

The delay can be attributed to political motives of the TDP government, which apparently will start intensifying the efforts of Amaravati construction at the eleventh hour of the elections to gain popularity and project their efforts in the nick of time.

It may be recalled that in 2015, Chief Minister invited 10 companies for designing Amaravati. The three architects were picked – Norman Foster, Rem Koolhaas and Richard Rogers. But soon they were replaced and the contest was between Maki and Associates, Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners and Vastu Shilpa Consultants. Maki Associates was awarded the project but after the designs were made public, the Japanese firm was removed from the project under uncertain circumstances. Maki Associates were not satisfied with the government’s latest decision to include Mumbai based Hafeez Contractor for the preparation of new design. Soon they were replaced by Norman Fosters who submitted two designs so far but nothing got finalized yet.

Now the Bahubaali-Rajamouli angle to the capital will only add to further delay. The route to secure the world-class capital city is longer than imagined and will not beat the clock of elections.

Role of indigenous engineers in a developing Amaravati side-lined

0

Engineers across India are celebrating Engineers Day today Sept15 as a tribute to the greatest Indian Engineer Bharat Ratna Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya with the theme “Role of Engineers in a developing India”

Andhra Pradesh leaders proudly boast of how wherever in the world they go, they find Telugu people being successful. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and his son and minister Nara Lokesh have repeatedly spoke of the greatness and talent of their countrymen.

But when it comes to designing of the capital Telugu Desham Government has ignored the indigenous talent and left it to the London based firm. What is the Role of Engineers in a developing Amaravati? Well hardly any! Engineers and Architects from Singapore, England, Netherlands, Switzerland and any other country have a role in construction of the new capital but indigenously none.

The CM wants the architects to take inspiration from the top ten structures along with a regional touch. It is evident that the Chandrababu wants to leave a legacy, but he is apparently bidding on the wrong people. First it was Maki associates from Japan and then filmmaker S S Rajamouli. The director was modest enough to accept that he is not qualified for the work.

There is a difference between creating imaginary city like Mahishmati which looks appealing and a new capital Amaravati. Any Telugu person with extensive knowledge in history and good approach in designing a film set is not a qualification to be an architect for the capital city.

If Kanuri Lakshmana Rao is remembered as engineer of Nagarjuna Sagar because he knew his work well. If we are applauding Visvevaraya today, it’s because the person who appointed him knew he was qualified. Chandrababu wants to celebrate Satya Nadella and Sundar Pichai but doesn’t want to create such people.

The aspirations of the CM are not impossible to do, but Chandrababu should take a cue out Nizam ruler who entrusted the responsibility in Visvesvaraya to design the flood protection system for the city of Hyderabad. 100crore reward money for Nobel prize winner will not inspire a student, but a leader who trusts his engineers and scientists will.

Rajamouli’s inputs to be taken for designing buildings in Amaravati

0

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has asked a British architectural firm to take inputs from well-known Telugu filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli in finalising designs for some key government buildings in upcoming state capital Amaravati.

Naidu suggested that Rajamouli, famous for his blockbusters ‘Baahubali’ and ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ be flown to London in the coming weeks for his inputs to Foster and Partners firm.

The Chief Minister will visit the firm in London on October 25 to finalise the designs, during his tour to Britain and United Arab Emirates.

The firm on Thursday submitted final models of the buildings for the assembly and the High Court.

According to a statement from the chief minister’s office, he was happy with the waterfront, the layout and the interior designing of the legislative assembly. He, however, felt the facade can look much better to reflect world-class architecture.

The High Court designs too, will be revisited, and the firm will present their next draft in the following weeks, it said.

Reasons why Hyperloop between Amaravati-Vijayawada is not a viable option

0

Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB) and the United States based Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HTT) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for development of Hyperloop transport system between city centres Vijayawada and Amaravati. In the first phase the firm will conduct a feasibility study commencing in October for six months. The proposal though sounded momentous, it has raised several eyebrows as singing MoU isn’t a thing.

The Capital Region Development Authority master plan envisions six-lane expresses ways connects the two cities. Also, Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation (AMRC) is working on Medium Metro Rail or Light Rail. The two cities will be already well connected with these modes of transportation. Moreover, capital city is being planned using the 5-10-15 formula on basis of walk to work culture.

Implementing Hyperloop is not competitive considering its financial viability. For about 42kilometers which can be covered in maximum of 30minutes, people will be reluctant to spend money for reaching the destination in 6minutes. Hyperloop is not financially lucrative project unless Government of Andhra Pradesh is ready to bear the financial burden.

This seems to be a merely attention seeking strategy as the brain behind Hyperloop Mr.Elon Musk himself doesn’t have a written approval from United states government yet. The government of Andhra Pradesh without weighing the options is on a MoU signing spree just because of the buzz words.

This hi-tech mode of transportation will change how people commute, but the implementation is not realistic yet. Government looking at the latest technologies is appreciable, but it should realise that too much attention to futuristic technology, distracts it from the crucial improvements that must be made to the existing system.

Andhra Pradesh signs MoU for Hyperloop, feasibility study to start next month

4

Having junked the proposed metro project from Vijaywada, the Andhra Pradesh government on Wednesday joined hands with a US-based company to introduce the futuristic “Hyperloop” transportation system in the state capital region, Amrawati.

If everything goes well, this will be the first Hyperloop project to be implemented in India.

The concept of Hyperloop mode of transportation is notably backed by business magnate and inventor Elon Musk. But it has not been implemented for practical use anywhere in the world yet.

The Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (AP-EDB) and the US- based Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HTT) signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Amaravati. But an official release on the MoU did not disclose the probable cost of the project.

The project will be taken up in the public-private- partnership mode with the funding coming primarily from private investors, the release said.

Hyperloop envisages a ‘tube modular transport system’ that runs free of friction. It is still in trial stages in different countries.

Following his first interaction with HTT executives during the World Economic Forum in Switzerland in January, chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu held another round of talks with them at the Secretariat here recently.

HTT chairman and co-founder Bibop Gresta and EDB CEO J Krishna Kishore signed the MoU.

Hyperloop is proposed to be introduced between the city centres of Vijayawada and Amaravati. It will supposedly cover the distance of over 35 km only in five minutes.

Under the MoU, the HTT will conduct a feasibility study from the next month to “analyse the surrounding cityscapes to create the best route between the two cities”. “After the six-month feasibility study, we will construct and build the first Hyperloop in India,” the HTT said.

“The AP-EDB, along with the state government, will assist HTT with all regulatory requirements and develop and implement Hyperloop in Amaravati,” CEO Kishore was quoted as saying in the release.

Film Institute in AP: Subhash Ghai meets Chandrababu

0

Bollywood director Subhash Ghai reportedly met Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to discuss the options of setting up a Film Institute in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday.

Following the bifurcation, Government of Andhra Pradesh decided to promote the film industry in a big way by setting up Film and Televisions institutes that can train young talent in the crafts of movie making in Vishakapatnam and Amaravati

It may be recalled that the government has formed a 14-member committee in July to research on the feasibility and submit its recommendations for establishing a Film and Television Institute in Amaravati.

Mudragada by changing tone confirmed TDP’s allegations

0

Telugu Desam party leaders have time and again accused Mudragada Padmanabam for acting on the behest of the YSR Congress party and trying to create rift between BCs and Kapus. By postponing the Chalo Amaravati Padayatra, the Kapu Patriarch has just confirmed the allegations.

Following TDP’s magnificent win in Nandyal, Mudragada is singing a different tune altogether. He who time and again said that Chandrababu is backtracking on election promise, went ahead to take credit for Nandyal bypoll. He reportedly advised Kapu community people to vote for TDP in Kakinada and Nandyal. The Kakinada Municipal Corporation Elections result will all be out tomorrow and with reports emerging that the ruling party has better chances of victory, his statements sound erratic.

Mudragada’s act of escaping the clutches of police when Chandrababu was touring in Kakinada, and trying to launch the Padyatra is clearly a political gimmick. It is evident from his comments that, “I have shown my calibre by marching 5km on Sunday”. The attempt was to show his calibre and not to pursue the walkathon after being foiled for 30days by the police.

By stating that he is senior to Chandrababu in the political trade, Mudragada clearly established that it was more of personal vendetta than for the cause.

Chandrababu Asks for Case Study on World’s Top 10 Towers

0

The tech-savvy CM of AP, Chandrababu Naidu has given valuable feedback to the architects from the Shapoorji Pallonji construction firm when they met him at the Secretariat and presented designs for the iconic Twin-Towers to be set up in Amaravati.

After the architects explained the design strategy, the context and the composition planned for the property, the AP CM approved the designs and also gave them a few suggestions. Naidu advised that the Amaravati towers must complement greenery and represent the dynamic personality of the AP citizen.

He asked the architects to do a case study on the top 10 towers across the world like Burj Khalifa in Dubai and the skyscrapers in Singapore and Malaysia. He suggested that they must derive inspiration from those world-class projects to design the iconic Twin Towers in AP Capital.

Naidu told the architects that they need to apply the best of business sense to capitalize on different activities to be performed in the towers.

According to the designs, the twin towers will comprise of office spaces (55-57%), shopping areas (12-13%), hotel (12%) and service apartments (8%).

AP Assembly water leak: CID says no flaws in construction

0

Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department submitted its report to Assembly speaker Kodela Shiva Prasad on Monday regarding the leakage of water in Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s chamber. It may be recalled that rain water flooded the chambers of Leader of the Opposition in the Interim Government Complex (IGC) at Velagapudi in Amaravati on June7. Anticipating sabotage, Speaker ordered an inquiry by CID and asked them to submit a report.

CID in its report stated that there were no structural defects in the construction of the building. The water seeped through the PVC pipe covering the AC communication cable that passes from the outer unit to the chamber. CID in its report said that additional probe is needed to understand how the PVC pipe got opened.

The leakage took a form of a political issue with the ruling party suspecting foul play by the opposition party. YSRCP attributed the leakage to inferior standards of construction.

It may be noted that on July18, water leaked again in the chambers of Water Resources Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao and Human Resources Minister (HRD) Ganta Srinivasa Rao located in the fourth block. The ceiling of their chambers and that of Stamps and Registrations department came off leading to discharge of water from the roof. Officials were instructed to take corrective steps to avoid such leakages in future.

Initial survey on Amaravati rail line completed

0

The country’s largest railway junction will be coming up in Amaravati – the capital city of Andhra Pradesh. As there is no viability for the expansion of railway stations in Guntur and Vijayawada, the initial Survey and propositions are being put in place for the most modern railway station in Amaravati which will provide connectivity to every nook and corner of the country.

Railway Vikas Nigam has reportedly completed its first survey and submitted the report to the government. In the initial survey, the authorities are working on making changes to existing railway stations and other related matters. Shortly tenders will be called for a comprehensive project report for the final survey. As the final survey reports are completed, the tenders will be called to initiate the construction work. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu aims to complete the construction of Amaravati youth railway line by 2019.

Plans are being drawn to ensure that the new route has electrified double track along the entire length. The construction of 106 km rail line between From Hyderabad to Sattenappalli and Pedakurapadu through Amaravati-Vijayawada and Amravati-Guntur is estimated at Rs 2650 crore.

The new railway line will be helpful to reduce traffic on Vijayawada and Guntur railway stations. The main railway station will be apparently based out of Tulluru. The central government has already issued a green signal to the construction of Amravati Railway.
