Sukesh Chandrashekhar releases alleged WhatsApp chats with K. Kavitha, Satyendar Jain

0

Alleged conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar has made public his alleged WhatsApp chats with jailed AAP leader Satyendar Jain and K. Kavitha, BRS leader and daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao.

Presently lodged at the Mandoli Jail in the national capital, Chandrashekhar is accused of extorting Rs 200 crore from a businessman’s wife.

In the purported conversations released on Wednesday, Chandrashekhar alleges that there is a connection between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and the BRS leader with regard to the Delhi excise policy scam.

In a letter directed to Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena, Chandrashekhar has accused AAP and Kejriwal of having multiple contracts and business deals with him.

He wrote, “This very application and attached chats expose the link between the Aam Aadmi party, Arvind Kejriwal and BRS leader K. Kavitha, who are involved in the Delhi liquor scam.”

The allegations levelled by Chandrashekhar have raised concerns about the role of political leaders in the liquor policy scam. Further inquiries will likely provide additional insights into the mater.

Chandrashekhar in his letter stated that the very application and chats attached show the nexus between the Aam Aadmi party, Arvind Kejriwal and Kavitha, who are allegedly involved in the Delhi liquor policy scam.

According to Chandrashekhar, the chats submitted to the L-G will aid the ongoing investigation into the liquor scam.

“The said chats are with regard to Rs 15 crore given by me to Arvind kejriwal and Satyendar Jain which was asked to be delivered to K. Kavitha of the BRS in Hyderabad,” said the letter released through his legal counsel Anant Malik.

According to the screenshots of the alleged chats, it is evident that Chandrashekhar had a coded conversation with a person whose number was saved as ‘Kavita Akka TRS’.

In one of the messages, the sender wrote, “AK bro package has to be given. It’s ready with me.”

Chandrashekhar alleged that this package refers to an amount of Rs 15 crore.

In another chat with a mobile number not saved on his phone, and claimed to be of Satyendar Jain, one of the messages read, “Bro Ghee tin ready. Yes bro 15 Kg.”

Chandrashekhar claimed that in their code words, ‘ghee’ refers to money and 15 kg meant Rs 15 crore.

He also wrote “inform big bro” in the same chat, to which the receiver replied, “AK Bhai knows”.

BRS suspends two leaders for anti-party activities

0

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has suspended former minister Jupally Krishna Rao and former MP Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy for anti-party activities.

The party’s central office announced on Monday that they have been suspended on the orders of party president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

The suspension came a day after Krishna Rao joined Srinivas Reddy, who had already raised the banner of revolt against the leadership.

Krishna Rao on Sunday attended an Athmeeya Sammelanam programme organised by Srinivas Reddy in Kothagudem, where he slammed KCR for what he called the suppression of democratic voices.

Krishna Rao alleged that instead of acting as a trustee of the state government and protecting people, the KCR government is suppressing democracy.

“People who fought for Telangana statehood have been completely sidelined after KCR became the chief minister. People are suffering under KCR’s rule,” the former minister said.

“Sarpanches are worried as the government failed to clear the pending bills and so are the contractors who completed irrigation projects,” he added.

Krishna Rao also alleged that when people question KCR about these issues, they are harassed and police cases filed against them. He remarked that KCR and his family members are acting like kings and neglecting people and their problems.

Srinivas Reddy said that KCR is dreaming of becoming a chief minister for the third time but it will remain a dream.

Krishna Rao felt sidelined in the party after MLA Harshvardhan Reddy, who had defeated him in Kollapur constituency in Mahabubnagar district in 2018, switched his loyalties from the Congress to TRS (now BRS) after the Assembly polls. A few months ago, Krishna Rao had dared Harshvardhan Reddy for a debate on the constituency development.

Krishna Rao had resigned from the Congress to join TRS in 2011. He was elected from Kollapur in 2014 on a TRS ticket.

Srinivas Reddy, who was elected to the Lok Sabha from Khammam on YSR Congress Party ticket in 2014, later switched loyalties to TRS. He alleged that TRS leadership had made many promises but failed to fulfill them.

He raised a banner of revolt after he was not even invited for the January 18 public meeting organised by BRS in Khammam. It was the first meeting of BRS after it changed the name.

He recently met YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) leader Y.S. Sharmila amid reports that he is planning to join the party.

BJP, BRS leaders trade barbs over ‘shawl’

1

A day after Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao skipped Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s programmes in Hyderabad, the war of words continued between BJP and BRS leaders on Sunday.

BJP state President Bandi Sanjay Kumar took to Twitter and posted a picture of the shawl that he claimed was ready to be presented to KCR, as the Chief Minister is popularly called, at a public meeting at Parade Grounds.

“Beautiful handloom shawl would have looked even better on CM KCR, if he had attended the meeting at Parade grounds yesterday,” he said.

“Send the Shawl to this Madam! She may feel happy that Modi ji atleast sent a Shawl!”, replied Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader Krishank Manne with a picture of Modi’s estranged wife Jashodaben.

KCR had Saturday skipped the Prime Minister’s programmes which included flagging of Secunderabad-Tirupati Vande Bharat Express.

“Invite was sent, shawl was ready and chair was kept to honour Telangana CM. But KCR continues to run away when PM Narendra Modiji visits TS. BRS govt is not cooperating for the development of TS even though Centre is committed to the development of the state,” Sanjay had tweeted after the meeting.

Sanjay continued his attack on KCR family. “3 things that Kalvakuntla family wants, summed up by Hon’ble PM Narendra Modiji 1 – May KCR’s family be hailed 2 – The money of corruption should keep coming to KCR’s family. 3 – The money that is sent for the poor should be used in KCR’s corrupt eco-system. KCR Dora wants to keep the control of who would get what and how much. But today Modi Ji led govt has attacked the very root of corruption,” the BJP leader tweeted.

Corruption has become identity of Telangana’s BRS government, says Nadda

1

BJP national President J.P. Nadda on Friday termed Telangana’s BRS government as Bhrashtachar Rishwat Sarkar and said that it has no right to remain in power.

“This has become the identity of Telangana government. This BRS party has become Bhrashtachar Rishwat Sarkar,” he said while virtually inaugurating new BJP offices in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

He recalled that when Telangana was formed in 2014, it was a surplus state but today the state finds itself in a debt of Rs 3.29 lakh crore.

Nadda ridiculed the tall claims made when Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) became Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), saying it has changed its name but it has not changed its ways.

The BJP chief referred to the summons of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to CM KCR’s daughter Kavitha in Delhi liquor scam case. “This is an unfortunate situation. Telangana’s image has become of a corrupt state,” he said

Stating that mere change of name does not work, Nadda said people of Telangana knew that the TRS and the BRS are same. “People of Telangana are giving a message to you. You need VRS (voluntary retirement scheme),” he said.

He alleged that there are scams in all sectors in Telangana. He reiterated that the Kaleshwaram irrigation scheme had become an ATM for the government, alleging that the project cost was inflated from Rs 40,000 crore to 1.40 lakh crore.

Nadda also said that the Modi government was doing its best to help Andhra Pradesh but the state government failed to implement the schemes of the Central government. “In the days to come we have to give a good and clean government to the people of Andhra Pradesh to lead the state,” he said and appealed to people to support BJP.

The BJP chief said that the Congress party has been wiped out from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

He launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for refusing to apologise for using insulting words about OBCs, and claimed that the OBCs will never forgive Gandhi and the Congress.

“This party has lost all shame. Even when it has shrunk to this level, its leaders are still egoistic and very much arrogant. They insult the nation, make shameful remarks about the OBC community. This is all unfortunate,” he said.

K. Kavitha writes to ED, raises right to privacy issues

0

BRS MLC K. Kavitha has written a letter to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy scam case, raising right to privacy issues.

The letter has been accessed by the IANS in which Kavitha, who is the daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, has also accused the ED for deliberate leakage of false accusation of destruction of cell phones which led her opponent to defame her and her party.

“I am today submitting before your good self all the earlier phones that I may have used in the past, and as sought by you, which I could gather. These phones are submitted without prejudice to my right and contentions and larger contention whether a women’s phone can be intruded, in the teeth of her right to privacy,” the letter reads.

She further wrote that it was baffling to note as to how, why, and under what circumstances agency made such allegation, when she was not even summoned or asked any questions whatsoever.

“For the record, the first time I was called by the agency was in the month of March 2023, therefore I have reasons to believe, that accusation made against me in November 2022 were not only malafide, misconceived, but also prejudicial. The deliberate leakage of the false accusation to the public has led to a political slugfest, wherein my political adversaries have been flaunting the accusations, to accuse me of destroying the so-called evidence, and indulging in causing great harm to my reputation, and attempting to defame me, my political party as well as to lower my image in the eyes of the public at large,” Kavitha added.

She accused the ED was becoming a privy and party to these acts and sabotaging and sacrificing its sacrosanct duty of free and fair investigation at the altar of vested political interest.

“I therefore, hereby tender all these phones so as to dispel of any notion or adverse impression that the agency is trying to create,” the MLC added.

KCR urges BRS cadres to be vigilant against ‘evil forces’

1

Telangana Chief Minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) President K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday appealed to the party cadre to be vigilant about “evil forces” and counter their false propaganda.

Exuding confidence that the BRS will score a hat-trick victory in the next Assembly elections, he said that people of Telangana will not fall prey to the cheap politics of the opposition parties.

KCR, as Rao is popularly known, issued a message to the party workers. This comes amidst questioning of his daughter K. Kavitha by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Delhi excise policy case and the allegations by the opposition parties against his son and minister K.T. Rama Rao in the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) question paper leak case.

He told BRS workers that in an election year the onus is on them to remain in the midst of people and counter the false propaganda of the opposition parties and expose them.

The BRS chief said it was the responsibility of the party workers to strengthen the party further.

He lashed out at the BJP for resorting to attacks and creating obstacles for the progress of Telangana at every step. He alleged that unable to stomach the BRS’ “Ab Ki Bar Kisan Sarkar” slogan, the BJP-led government at the Centre was attacking the party on all fronts and also creating hurdles in Telangana’s progress.

KCR also referred to the struggle to achieve Telangana state. “Our party defeated many attacks and conspiracies during separate state agitation. Had we feared then, Telangana would not have been achieved,” he said.

Stating that BRS workers are the strength of the party, he said he would be indebted to party workers for ensuring the party’s grand victory in all elections from panchayats to Parliament all these years.

KCR also told the BRS cadres that for other parties politics is a game but for the BRS, it is a task. He claimed that considering politics as a sacred duty to fulfill people’s aspirations, the BRS government transformed Telangana as an index for welfare and development.

The BRS chief said that with successful execution of works and welfare programmes, the BRS government ensured that Telangana emerged as a role model for the entire country. It is now one among the five large states, which were contributing immensely to the nation’s economy, he said.

He said while Telangana achieved unbelievable development in all sectors in the last nine years, the country even after 75 years of independence was still plagued with issues like insufficient drinking water for households and irrigation purposes and electricity shortage.

The Chief Minister stated that China, Singapore, and South Korea are achieving rapid progress but unfortunately India is beset with communal hatred and lagging in development. He held Congress and BJP responsible for the poor development of the nation and alleged that both the parties lacked vision and commitment.

“To fill the void, the BRS set a new agenda for the nation and embarked on a new journey to influence national politics,” he added.

BRS-BJP poster war in Hyderabad turns ugly

0

The poster war between Telangana’s ruling BRS and opposition BJP turned ugly with new posters emerging in Hyderabad on Sunday, showing Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter K. Kavitha as a culprit in Delhi excise policy scam case.

The posters target CM KCR, his son KTR, Kavitha and other family members.

A wall poster with pictures of KCR, KTR, Kavitha, Harish Rao appears like a film poster. The film title is “Kalvakuntla Dongalamutha” (Kalvakuntla gang of thieves). “Story, screenplay, dialogues and direction by KCR”, reads the poster

Another poster carries photographs of Kavitha with liquor bottles and comments about her alleged involvement in the case.

These posters by BJP are apparently in response to those stuck by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) supporters a few days ago showing BJP national general secretary B. L. Santhosh as a criminal and wanted and targeted Prime Minister Narenrda Modi over his promise of Rs 15 lakh.

Posters had come up in different parts of the city. “Talented in MLA poaching,” reads the poster. It also announced ‘reward’. “Sanction of Modi’s promise of Rs 15,00,000.”

The posters came up ahead of Kavitha’s second round of questioning by the ED in Delhi on Thursday. She, however, did not appear before the agency, citing a hearing by the Supreme Court of a petition filed by her challenging the summons.

BRS leaders alleged Santhosh ran away from probe into MLAs’ poaching case by not appearing before the Special Investigation Team (SIT).

The BRS supporters had also put up posters last week when Kavitha appeared before the ED for the first time. Through the posters, the BRS tried to depict how the BJP government at the Centre used “raid detergents” to clean turncoats.

The posters carried the images of Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma who had corruption allegations levelled against them before switching from Congress to the BJP.

With hashtag “Bye Bye Modi”, the posters show how the “raid detergents” painted tainted leaders saffron. The posters also carried picture of Kavitha before and after the raid with catchline “True colors never fade”.

Hitting back at the BRS, the BJP had also put up posters and hoardings targeting the ruling party over defections.

Three BRS candidates elected unopposed to Telangana Council

0

All three candidates of Telangana’s ruling party Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) were Thursday elected unopposed to the Legislative Council under MLA quota.

Deshapati Srinivas, K. Naveen Kumar, and Challa Venkatrami Reddy were declared elected as no other candidate was in fray. Thursday was the last day for withdrawal of nominations.

An independent candidate had filed the nomination but the same was rejected by the Election Commission. Returning officer declared that all three candidates of BRS have been elected without contest.

While Naveen Kumar has been elected to the upper house of the state legislature for the second term, two others are first-time MLCs.

Poet and singer Srinivas was earlier serving as Officer on Special Duty in the Chief Minister’s Office. Venkatrami Reddy is a former MLA from Alampur constituency.

Soon after their election, the three MLCs called on BRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao. He greeted and blessed them.

Meanwhile, counting of votes was on for Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad teachers’ MLC seat. As none of the candidates polled more than 50 per cent of first preference votes, the poll officials took up counting of second preference votes. A.V.N. Reddy had polled 7,505 first preference votes while Chenna Keshav Reddy secured 6,584 votes. The result is likely to be announced on Friday morning.

BRS, BJP play blame game over TSPSC exam paper leak

0

Leaders of Telangana’s ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are blaming each other for the exam paper leak that has rocked Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC).

Both the parties are targeting each other in what is being seen as an attempt to take political mileage from the issue ahead of Assembly elections scheduled towards the end of 2023.

Both BRS and BJP leaders were busy digging out the past record of the accused to claim that they have links with the rivals.

After police arrested nine accused in the case on Monday, the opposition parties, student and youth organisation demanded resignation of TSPSC Chairman Janardhan Reddy.

The TSPSC had conducted the examination on March 5 for 833 vacancies of Assistant Engineer, Municipal Assistant Engineer, Technical Officer, and Junior Technical Officer in various engineering departments. A total of 55,000 candidates had written the exam.

Following the arrest of the accused, the Commission cancelled the exam and also postponed other exams scheduled to be held later this month.

Opposition parties have made serious allegations against the Commission head, who is appointed by the state government. Doubts were also raised about the exams conducted in the past.

Going a step ahead, BJP leaders alleged that top leaders of the BRS were behind exam paper leak. BJP state President Bandi Sanjay Kumar trained guns on Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and his team.

Sanjay alleged that question papers of all TSPSC exams were leaked and that the BRS government is messing around with the lives of unemployed youth.

The BJP leader also shared the OMR sheet of P. Praveen Kumar, key accused in the case. He said Praveen, who was personal assistant of TSPSC Secretary, secured highest marks in Group I prelims.

Hitting back at the BJP, BRS leaders shared on social media photographs of second accused Atla Rajasekhar Reddy with BJP leaders.

The police reportedly identified the accused as an active worker of the BJP.

The BRS has alleged that the paper leak case is a conspiracy by the BJP to defame the ruling party.

BRS Working President and state minister K. T. Rama Rao took to Twitter to request the Director General of Police to to enquire this matter thoroughly and bring perpetrators to justice.

“Even by the very low standards of BJP, this is vulgarity at its worst Just to malign Telangana Govt, BJP seems to have hatched a conspiracy to destroy the lives of innocent youth,” KTR wrote.

Sanjay came out with fresh allegations on Thursday. He alleged that Renuka who honey trapped Praveen is associated with the BRS. He claimed that her mother is sarpanch of Mansoorpally village and belongs to BRS.

The BJP leader said Renuka and her husband got government jobs because of the BRS while Rajasekhar was hired by the TSPSC. “BRS does all criminal things and shamelessly blames the BJP,” he said.

The accused arrested in the case include two employees of TSPSC and a police constable.

On March 14, Hyderabad police transferred the paper leakage case to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Central Crime Station (CCS).

Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan has already directed the TSPSC to submit a report on the question paper leakage.

BRS announces three candidates for Telangana Legislative Council polls

0

Telangana’s ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Tuesday announced three candidates for the state Legislative Council polls under MLA quota.

Deshapati Srinivas, K. Naveen Kumar, and Challa Venkatrami Reddy will be BRS candidates, announced BRS President and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

Naveen Kumar has been fielded by the ruling party for another term as MLC while two others are new candidates.

Poet and singer Srinivas is currently serving as Officer on Special Duty in the Chief Minister’s Office while Venkatrami Reddy is a former MLA from Alampur constituency.

KCR, as the Chief Minister is popularly known, asked the candidates to file nominations on March 9. He directed state Legislative Assembly Affairs Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy and BRS General Secretary Palla Rajeshwar Reddy to make arrangements in this regard.

The names of the two candidates to be nominated by the Governor will be announced after the cabinet meeting scheduled on March 9.

BRS will play crucial role in Maharashtra’s development: Kavitha

1

Member of Legislative Council (MLC) from Telangana and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K. Kavitha has said her party will play a crucial role in the development of Maharashtra.

The BRS MLC, who is in Mumbai to attend various programmes, offered floral tributes on Saturday to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s statue in Mumbai.

Stating that Telangana’s welfare and development programmes were being discussed across the country, Kavitha, the daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, said people in Maharashtra were demanding replication of Telangana’s welfare programmes in their state.

Speaking to the media, Kavitha said different sections of people in Maharashtra were appealing to expand the BRS’ operations in the state.

Pointing out that though Telangana and Maharashtra share a nearly 1,000 km long border, there is a lot of difference in terms of welfare and development programmes being implemented in the two states.

She cited the example of Hyderabad, where drinking water was being supplied round the clock while drinking water was being supplied in Mumbai for only two hours a day.

“If the Telangana government could supply drinking water to every household across the state, why cannot the Maharashtra government implement such a programme?” she questioned.

Since Independence, the provision of basic amenities like drinking water and power for households, has still been a challenge in many states in the country.

But Telangana, the youngest state in the country, had addressed these issues by nearly 98 per cent, she said, adding that the BRS party would fight for such people-centric issues.

BRS would play a crucial role in the comprehensive development of Maharashtra, she said.

On the possibilities of contesting elections in Maharastra, she said the party would make an announcement in this regard.

Reiterating her party’s demand for a JPC probe into the Hindenburg report on the Adani Group, Kavita wondered “why central agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation, the Enforcement Directorate and the Reserve Bank of India were silent on this matter”.

Telangana’s opposition parties attack BRS government over Budget

0

Opposition parties in Telangana on Monday slammed the state Budget 2023-24, saying it is full of lies and is misleading.

Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka described the Budget as juggling with numbers. He said that it does not reflect the ground realities in the state.

He said there was no truth in the claim by Finance Minister T. Harish Rao that farmers are being provided 24-hour electricity and alleged that the agriculture sector is getting power for only five hours a day.

Vikramarka said weaker sections were allocated only Rs 6,229 crore in the Rs.2.90 lakh crore Budget. He remarked that if there is growth in one sector it is the revenue through liquor.

The BJP also came down heavily on Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government saying the Budget is misleading.

Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy alleged that the Budget is full of lies, inflated numbers, and false promises.

Targeting Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, he said that the “farmhouse family” allocated Rs 1,000 crore for advertisement and publicity, which is a 575 per cent increase over the last year. He said almost the same amount was allocated for Aarogyasri health insurance scheme for the poor.

“The BRS government budgets have a history of high budgetary projections, decreased revised estimates and low actual spending. This year too the same trend continues,” Kishan Reddy said.

“People are fed up with such gimmicks and will see through this and say no to such no outcome budgets,” he added.

State BJP President Bandi Sanjay said that the Budget is juggling with numbers to mislead people, and except targeting the Centre, there was nothing in it.

Constitute JPC if you have nothing to hide: KCR to PM

0

Telangana Chief Minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday demanded the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to probe Adani Group’s ‘scam’.

He wanted to know why the Union government was refusing to constitute JPC when it claimed nothing wrong had happened.

Addressing a news conference in Nanded, he alleged that the Centre made Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) invest Rs 87,000 crore in the Adani Group and is now pressuring it to make a false statement over its exposure in the Adani group.

“To mislead the country, LIC is being pressured to make a statement that it suffered no losses,” he said, adding that the truth will come out with the JPC probe.

He pointed out that opposition parties are demanding the JPC in the Parliament.

“I am requesting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Such a big scam has happened. In a week, Rs 10 lakh crore was wiped out. It is not a small amount and the entire Indian banking system and LIC is involved in it. This is people’s money, their investment. The entire country is angry. This should be discussed in Parliament and a JPC should be constituted. Otherwise, the country will hold you guilty,” he said.

“Everybody knows (Gautam) Adani is your friend. He came to this position because of you. Will an ordinary businessman come up in the number two position in Forbes’ List of billionaires? You can’t hide this fact. If you have done no wrong, constitute the JPC,” KCR added.

He also slammed the Narendra Modi-led Central government over the import of coal and its “love for Adani”.

The BRS leader said that India has enough reserves of coal that would last for the next 120 years but the Central government is forcing states to procure imported coal, which is only supplied by the Adani group.

“The kind of love the Centre has for Adani, it should have for the people of the country,” he said.

“The import of coal is cheating the country. Coal India Ltd has already stated that it has paid the required amount for the construction of a 250-km long railway track that would increase our coal production exponentially. But the Central government is not letting it happen,” he alleged.

KCR reiterated that the Modi government is following the policy of socialisation of losses and privatisation of benefits.

He lashed out at the Centre for attempting to privatise LIC, which is the world’s largest and better-performing insurance company.

The BRS leader promised that if the party came to power in the Centre on its own or with like-minded parties, LIC would be brought back into the public sector.

Opposing indiscriminate privatisation, KCR remarked that the government cannot run away from its responsibilities.

Stating that 95 per cent of the electricity sector should be in the public sector, he said if BRS comes to power, it would bring all electricity units being privatised by the Modi government back into the public sector.

‘Injustice to Telangana once again’: BRS slams Budget

0

Telangana’s ruling party Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has slammed the Union Budget saying that the state has once again received a “raw deal” in the Union Budget.

In his reaction to the Union Budget 2023-24 presented in the Parliament on Wednesday, state Finance Minister T. Harish Rao said that the Centre has “again done injustice to Telangana”. He said that there was “no mention of fulfilling commitments made to the state in Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act”.

Rao said that despite repeated demands for the last nine years to set up a rail coaching factory, the Centre remained indifferent.

He described the budget as “flimsy”.

Rao said that weavers were not provided GST relief and incentives, while there was a drastic cut on fertiliser subsidy. He said injustice was done to Telangana in allocation of nursing and medical colleges.

He claimed that the number of beneficiaries under the PM Kishan scheme has been slashed.

The minister pointed out that last year, Rs 9,243 crore were allocated for procurement of cotton through Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) but this year only Rs 1 lakh has been allocated. “This as a grave injustice to cotton farmers.”

He also accused the Centre of not adhering to Fiscal Responsibility & Budget Management (FRBM) norms. He reiterated that the states were losing their share in taxes due to cesses and surcharges. He also complained of a major cut in allocations for Centrally sponsored schemes.

Agriculture Minister S. Niranjan Reddy alleged that the allocation for agriculture has been slashed by 22 per cent. He said that this again proved that the government at the Centre is “anti-farmer”.

The minister said the Centre has cut the allocation for MNREGA by Rs 29,400 crore while the allocation for PM Kisan Nidhi has not been enhanced.

With Gamang joining the party, can BRS dent Odisha’s Fortress Patnaik?

1

With several Odisha leaders, including former chief minister Giridhar Gamang, ex-MP Jayram Pangi and farmers’ leader Akshay Kumar, joining KCR’s Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS), which is eyeing to expand its party base, political atmosphere has charged up in the state.

However, whether the entry of BRS into Odisha will change its political landscape remains to be seen as the Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is an unbeatable political force in the state since past 23 years.

Defeating the Congress, the BJD formed the government in the state in alliance with the BJP in 2000. However, in 2009, the BJD ditched the BJP and formed a government on its own. In the past decade, the regional party has defeated two big national parties the Congress and the BJP.

While the Congress is becoming weak in one after another election, the BJP has also failed to perform as a strong opponent to the regional party in past panchayat, urban and Assembly elections.

In past also, many political parties like the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Samajwadi Party (SP), Trinamool Congress (TMC), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Left parties tried to enter Odisha politics, but in vain.

Only the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) managed to win four Assembly seats in 2009 when it entered into an alliance with the BJD.

Besides, many of the political leaders, who have recently joined the BRS, were not very much involved in active politics. And, the non-political leaders have not tried their luck in Odisha politics till now.

New inductees in BRS from Odisha claimed that many leaders from different parties in the state are contacting to join them, whereas the ruling BJD and BJP have said that KCR’s party will not have any impact.

Commenting on this, senior BJD leader and Puri MP Pinaki Misra said, “The BRS has taken the leaders from BJP. As per my opinion, the vote bank of Giridhar Gamang will be diverted to BRS from BJP. It will not have any impact on the BJD’s vote bank.”

“Nobody can match the USP of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The BSP may be able to gain a very few thousands of votes in its peripheral areas and that too in two or three districts,” said the BJD leader.

Similarly, BJP general secretary Prithviraj Harichandan said, “In the past also, Odisha had witnessed several such parties. But all disappeared at a later stage. So, here the fight is between BJP and BJD.”

“The BJP is fighting on development agenda while the BJD is fighting with its face Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik,” the BJP leader said.

According to local political analyst Rabi Das, the BRS may be able to put some impact on southern Odisha, especially Telugu-speaking border constituencies.

“Many schemes of KCR in Telangana are better than those in Odisha. Odisha’s Kalia scheme has come from their state. Telangana is providing more money as old age pension then Odisha,” Das said.

“The leaders who were searching for a party which is financially sound, for them, BRS is the best option. So, such leaders will definitely jump into the BRS,” he added.

Modi to flag off BJP’s campaign against BRS in run-up to T’gana polls

0

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is looking to raise the pitch against Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in Telangana in an election year with several Union Ministers and senior leaders making a beeline to the state.

The saffron party is planning a high-profile blitzkrieg to go on the offensive against BRS, the new name adopted recently by Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) to go pan-India.

Political analysts believe that the BJP is looking to continue the tempo built last year with a series of visits by party top guns and party programmes.

Though Assembly elections are scheduled towards the end of the year, the possibility of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao preponing the same is not ruled out and keeping this in view the BJP is galvanising itself into the poll mode.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to lead from the front by addressing a public meeting in Hyderabad in February. He was scheduled to visit the state on January 19 but the visit was postponed.

The Prime Minister’s visit was finalised a couple of days after the BRS held inaugural meeting at Khammam, which was attended by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and CPI general secretary D. Raja.

With Telangana Chief Minister KCR bracing for an active role in the national politics by portraying pan-India image and bringing non-BJP parties on a common platform to achieve the common goal of throwing out Modi government out of power in 2024, the BJP is apparently looking to mount pressure on him in his home turf.

As part of efforts to achieve its ambitious target of capturing power in Telangana, the BJP will be unleashing an aggressive blitz. In the next few days, several Union Ministers are scheduled to descend on Telangana.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also expected to visit the state later this month. He may go to Komaram Bheem Asifabad district and visit Jodeghat where Gond leader Kumaram Bheem had laid down his life while fighting forces of Nizam, the ruler of then Hyderabad State.

Political analysts say the proposed visit of Shah will help BJP build a strong narrative against KCR-led government. The saffron party has been targeting him for not celebrating September 17 as Liberation Day due to its ‘appeasement politics’ and fear of his ally the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).

“The BJP may look for more such opportunities to step up its attack on KCR in the run-up to the polls,” says an analyst.

BJP leaders have been slamming KCR for friendship with Owaisi’s party, implementation of four per cent reservation for Muslims and the proposal to enhance the quota to 12 per cent and second official language status to Urdu.

As the elections draw nearer, the saffron party is likely to intensify efforts to capitalise on sensitive issues for polarisation along religious lines.

The BJP in Telangana has been aggressive ever since it bagged four Lok Sabha seats in the state in 2019 and scored victories in two Assembly by-elections in 2020 and 2021 and significantly increased its tally in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

Projecting itself as the only viable alternative to TRS (now BRS), the BJP leaders see a realistic chance of coming to power in the state in 2023.

The BJP has been raking up emotive issues which could help in garnering votes of the majority community, especially in constituencies in and around Hyderabad and other urban pockets of the state.

After Bandi Sanjay became the BJP state president in 2020, the party went into an overdrive to draw political mileage from sensitive issues. In what is seen as an attempt to challenge AIMIM on its home turf, he launched his state-wide Praja Sangram Yatra from Bhagyalaxmi temple abutting historic Charminar.

In fact this temple, whose legality was questioned several times in the past sparking communal tensions, has become the focal point of BJP’s politics over the last couple of years.

BJP launched its poll campaign in GHMC elections in 2020 from the same temple. It was also visited by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during GHMC polls and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in July during BJP’s national executive committee meeting here.

Bandi Sanjay, who is also a member of Lok Sabha from Karimnagar, allegedly delivered a hate speech in May. Police complaints were filed against him at various police stations in the state for making provocative remarks against mosques and madarsas.

The BJP leader demanded digging under all mosques. Alleging that Muslim rulers in Telangana demolished several temples and built mosques over them, demanded digging work at all mosques, saying there was a possibility of finding Shiva Lingams underneath.

The BJP MP also stated that if BJP comes to power in Telangana, it will abolish all madrasas, do away with reservation for Muslims, and remove Urdu as the second official language.

Family rule by KCR and alleged corruption are the other issues BJP leaders are likely to highlight during the campaign in the run-up to the polls.

BJP leaders are confident that the upcoming visits by Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and other top figures will help consolidate the gains the party claimed to have made last year with series of visits by the Central leaders and conduct of the BJP national executive meeting in Hyderabad.

KCR’s national foray: Ambiguity on expansion marks BRS inaugural

1

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) made an impressive beginning as a national party with a mammoth public meeting in Telanagana’s Khammam on Wednesday but questions remain on how it plans to achieve its goal of expanding to states ruled by other opposition parties.

Sharing dais with Chief Ministers of three states and leaders of different parties, BRS President and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao made some promises the party would fulfill after coming to power at the Centre or by playing a key role in the formation of the next government.

KCR, as the Chief Minister is popularly known, was expected to unveil the national agenda of the BRS but he told the gathering that this would be done soon. With focus on his slogan of ‘Ab ki baar kisan sarkar’, he gave a glimpse of the agenda and made certain promises.

While leaders from four states, including three Chief Ministers, heaped praise on KCR for taking the initiative of bringing together leaders of various opposition parties, there was no clarity if they are ready to work together. They were also silent on Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) turning into the BRS to expand its footprint in various states.

Political observers say while all the speakers were unanimous on the need for the opposition parties to work together to throw the BJP out of power, they were not clear how they plan to achieve the goal.

The absence of Janata Dal-Secular leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy at the BRS meeting also raised eyebrows in political circles as Karnataka is one of the first states where the BRS is planning to get a foothold.

Kumaraswamy was present at the TRS meeting in October last year when the party decided to rename itself as the BRS. He had also attended the inauguration of BRS national office in Delhi last month.

Assembly elections in Karnataka are scheduled in the next few months. BRS leaders have already made it clear that 2024 Lok Sabha elections are their target.

On several occasions, KCR spoke how some villages in the border areas of Karnataka and Maharashtra passing resolutions for merger with Telangana. He claimed that people in these villages want to avail benefits of welfare schemes being implemented by the Telangana government.

Political analysts say while the BRS may campaign for the JD-S in Assembly elections, it may want the latter to reciprocate with seat sharing in 2024 Lok Sabha polls. It is still not clear if the JD-S would agree to any such proposal.

Doubts also remain on how the BRS will expand its activities to states where non-BJP parties are in power. Early this month, the party announced its first state President for Andhra Pradesh.

KCR had announced that the BRS will launch its activities in 7-8 states after Sankranti. He said the party was ready to constitute state-level committees in Punjab, Haryana, Odisha, Maharashtra, and Karnataka.

Chief Ministers of Delhi, Punjab and Kerala had attended the inaugural meeting of BRS in Khammam. Samajwadi Party leader and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and CPI national Secretary D. Raja also addressed the meeting.

The speakers were unanimous in targeting the BJP government at the Centre and underlining the need for a collective effort to defeat BJP. However, they were not clear if they will work together and if yes how.

The BJP was quick to attack KCR on this contradiction at the Khammam meeting. “KejriwalA had said that the Aam Aadmi Party will come to power at the Centre and yesterday, KCR said the BRS will come to power at the Centre. Let them first decide which party they want to see in power,” taunted Telangana BJP President Bandi Sanjay Kumar.

Where is AP BRS?

1

The Bharat Rastra Samithi of Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao made tremors in Andhra Pradesh last week, when a handful of leaders joined the party. KCR had announced the launch of the BRS AP unit at the meeting and announced the new-entrant Thota Chandrasekhar as the party AP unit president.

Chandrasekhar, a retired IAS officer, joined the active politics with the Praja Rajyam Party of K Chiranjeevi in 2009 and had travelled to the YSR Congress in 2014 to the Jana Sena in 2019. He was unsuccessful in every party so far in his political journey. It is now to be seen what he would do in AP for the BRS.

Another former minister Ravela Kishore Babu, was a retired IRTS officer, who joined the TDP before the 2014 election. He contested from the Prathipadu Assembly constituency in Guntur district and became a minister in Chandrababu Naidu’s cabinet after the 2014 elections.

Later, before the 2019 elections, he joined the Jana Sena and again moved to the BJP after losing the election. He also joined the BRS along with Thota Chandrasekhar.

The third bureaucrat Chintha Pardhasaradhi, a retired IRS officer, entered the active politics in 2019 by joining the Jana Sena. He lost the elections and had now joined the BRS along with the others.

Going by the credentials of the leaders, the BRS had started in Andhra Pradesh with the scrap as none of them had seen victory. After all, victory is what matters in success in politics and none of them had tasted it yet.

With all these failure characters KCR is yet to make his next move in Andhra Pradesh. They have to make their first step in the state and it is said that they are waiting for muhurt to open the party office in Vijayawada some time after the Pongal.

MLAs’ poaching case: Telangana govt challenges order transferring case to CBI

0

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government in Telangana has filed an appeal in the Telangana High Court challenging the court order transferring the case relating to alleged attempts to poach BRS MLAs to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The government has challenged the order passed by a single-judge bench directing the CBI to probe the sensational case.

The appeal is likely to be taken up for hearing by a division bench headed by Chief Justice Ujwal Bhuyan.

On December 26, Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy had entrusted the investigation into the MLAs’ poaching case to the central agency after hearing the petitions filed by the accused persons, who argued that they have no faith in the probe by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the state government.

The court had then quashed the government order constituting the SIT to probe the case. However, following a plea filed by the government, the court stayed implementation of the order till the copies of the judgement are made available.

After studying the judgement, the BRS government decided to file the appeal.

Incidentally, the high court had dismissed a petition seeking CBI probe into the matter in November last year. However, accused Ramachandra Bharati, K. Nanda Kumar and D.P.S.K.V.N. Simhayaji had moved the Supreme Court, which then directed the high court to decide on the petitions seeking transfer of probe to the CBI.

The three accused were arrested by Cyberabad police from a farmhouse at Moinabad near Hyderabad on the night of October 26, when they were allegedly trying to lure four MLAs of BRS with offers of huge money.

The Cyberabad police conducted the raid based on a tip-off by Pilot Rohit Reddy, one of the BRS MLAs, who had alleged that the accused offered Rs 100 crore to him and Rs 50 crore each to the three other MLAs for defecting to BJP.

The state government had subsequently constituted an SIT headed by Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand to probe the case.

BJP General Secretary B.L. Santosh; Bharath Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS) President Tushar Vellapally; a doctor from Kerala, Jaggu Swamy; lawyers Srinivas and Pratap Goud; and Nanda Kumar’s wife Chitralekha were also summoned by the SIT for questioning.

Santosh, Vellapally and Jaggu Swamy had approached the high court and secured a stay on the notices.

The high court had on December 1 granted conditional bail to the accused persons.

However, Ramachandra Bharati and Nanda Kumar were re-arrested by the police soon after their release from jail on December 8 in connection with some other cases registered against them.

While Ramachandra Bharati was booked for holding multiple passports, Aadhaar cards and other documents, five cases were registered against Nanda Kumar for cheating and other offences.

Thota Chandrasekhar to head BRS AP unit

1

Retired IAS officer, Thota Chandrasekhar is likely to be the chief of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), AP unit. Chandrasekhar joined the BRS in the presence of its chief and Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

Former minister and retired IRS officer, Ravela Kishore Babu, former IRTS officer, China Pardhasaradhi, besides others, also joined the BRS. Party senior leaders and Telangana ministers welcomed these leaders into the party. The BRS leaders are likely to open the party office in Vijayawada shortly.

Sources say that KCR had tipped Chandrasekhar to head the AP unit of the party. Chandrasekhar joined the active politics through the Praja Rajyam Party and contested unsuccessfully from the Guntur Lok Sabha constituency in the 2009 elections. Later, he moved to the YSR Congress and contested unsuccessfully from Eluru Lok Sabha seat in the 2014 election.

Later, Chandrasekhar joined the Jana Sena and again lost the 2019 elections from the Guntur West Assembly constituency.

Quite interestingly, Ravela Kishore Babu also changed several parties before joining the BRS. He entered the active politics before the 2014 elections and contested successfully from Prathipadu constituency in Guntur district. He became a cabinet minister in the TDP government. However, when Naidu removed him from the cabinet, Kishore Babu slowly detached from the TDP and later joined the Jana Sena before the 2019 election.

He contested the 2019 election from Prathipadu constituency on Jana Sena ticket and lost the battle. Later, he joined the BJP where he stayed for one year. Now, he moved on to the BRS with high expectations.

The other bureaucrat, Chintala Pardhasaradhi also entered the politics in 2019 by contesting as Jana Sena candidate from Anakapalle Lok Sabha constituency. He lost the elections and has been inactive and had joined the BRS on Monday.
