Jagan’s Regime is Turning AP into Zero, says YS Sharmila

0

President of Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee, YS Sharmila, launched scathing criticism against the incumbent Chief Minister, Jaganmohan Reddy, accusing him of orchestrating the state’s descent into zero development. During her campaign, Sharmila urged voters to prioritize the Congress party in the upcoming elections, regardless of inducements offered by other political entities.

Unfulfilled Promises and Betrayal:

Sharmila lambasted Jaganmohan Reddy for his failure to fulfill numerous promises made during his tenure as the opposition leader. Despite garnering substantial parliamentary representation, the state government’s inability to secure special status has led to a stagnation of industrial growth and widespread unemployment. She accused Jagan of duping job-seeking individuals with empty pledges, highlighting his delayed and insufficient action in addressing the employment crisis. Whenever Sharmila spoke about unemployment in her rallies, she is getting more support from the youngsters.

Sharmila decried the dismal state of agriculture under Jagan’s governance, lamenting the absence of debt-free farmers and the inadequate support provided to agricultural sectors. She highlighted the sharp decline in the availability of essential commodities through ration shops, attributing it to the administration’s flawed policies. Moreover, she criticized the government’s economic measures, alleging a pattern of price hikes and insufficient welfare provisions.

Bold Comments on Jagan’s Secret alliance with some BJP leaders:

Furthermore, Sharmila condemned Jagan’s clandestine alliance with the BJP, contrasting it with Chandrababu Naidu’s transparent approach. She emphasized that sustainable state development can only be achieved under Congress’s leadership, pledging to grant special status for a decade upon assuming power. Additionally, she promised substantial financial assistance to impoverished women and the creation of durable housing units.

In contrast, Sharmila projected the Congress party as the harbinger of positive change, advocating for the victory of its candidates. She underscored the party’s commitment to inclusive development and pro-people policies, promising a comprehensive overhaul of the state’s socioeconomic landscape.

As YS Sharmila’s campaign gains momentum, her critique of Jaganmohan Reddy’s governance offers a stark portrayal of the challenges faced by Andhra Pradesh under his leadership. By highlighting unfulfilled promises, economic strain, and agricultural neglect, Sharmila presents the Congress party as a viable alternative dedicated to restoring the state’s prosperity and welfare. Even though there is no possibility of the Congress party coming into power in the state of AP, Sharmila’s efforts may improve the vote percentage for the party this time.

Congress meeting deferred to March 16

0

The AP Congress had postponed its public meeting in Visakhapatnam to March 16. The meeting was initially planned for March 15.

Congress top leaders including AICC president Mallikharjuna Kharge, Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy, are scheduled to address the public meeting. A number of Congress senior leaders from the state were also scheduled to address the public meeting.

However, the party, for reasons best known to the leadership, had postponed the meeting to March 16. As usual, the party senior leaders will attend the meeting.

The public meeting is scheduled to pass a couple of resolutions at the end. The resolutions included one against the privatization of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and the other on the grant of a railway zone for Visakhapatnam.

The Congress is making its moves fast in Andhra Pradesh ever since Y S Sharmila took over the reins. Sharmila had toured the entire state in the last couple of months. She had also addressed street corner meetings during her whirlwind tour.

She is targeting the ruling YSR Congress for its failure to get the special category status to the state. She is also targeting the ruling party for its failures on different fronts. She had been criticizing chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on debts, development and welfare of the people.

She had also started receiving applications from the aspirants to contest the Assembly and Parliament elections. She had almost completed receiving the applications. She is expected to send the same to the steering committee that would finalize the candidates for the elections.

YSR Congress alliance with BJP is invisible, says Sharmila

0

AP Congress president Y S Sharmila on Wednesday said that the alliance between the ruling YSR Congress and the BJP is invisible. She said that the YSR Congress has strong bondage with the BJP leadership in Delhi.

She was addressing the party workers at Visakhapatnam on the day when she made a scathing attack on the ruling YSR Congress. She said that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is in alliance with the BJP leaders. The alliance cannot be seen outside, she said and added that the strong bondage between Jagan Mohan Reddy and the BJP leaders has been there for years.

Sharmila questioned Jagan Mohan Reddy for not bringing special category status to the state. She said that Jagan Mohan Reddy had fought for the Special Category Status when he was in the opposition. She also recalled that Jagan Mohan Reddy had asked people to give him 25 MPs and he would get the special category status. However, he did not even open his mouth in the last five years about special category status, she said.

She also blamed the chief minister for not getting the railway zone for Visakhapatnam. She wondered why the chief minister was silent despite the Centre not giving the railway zone to Visakhapatnam. She wanted to know why the chief minister is also silent when the Centre is not bringing the railway zone to the state despite promising it.

She blamed the chief minister for remaining silent when the Central government was getting ready to privatize the steel plant in Visakhapatnam. She questioned the chief minister for his silence on the steel plant issue despite the employees’ holding protests.

She also blamed the chief minister and the state government for giving its share in the Gangavaram port to the private company. She alleged that the chief minister had tied up with the BJP government at the Centre and is closing his eyes for everything that the BJP leaders are doing.

Sharmila made an appeal to the people to defeat the YSR Congress government in the state and bring the Congress government if they wanted the steel plant to be protected, railway zone to be a reality and special category status to come.

Sharmila wants YSR supporters to come to Congress

0

APCC new president Y S Sharmila on Sunday appealed to the supporters of late Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy to come to the Congress and work to realise his dreams of bringing Congress to power. She wanted the YSR supporters to join hands with her to realise his dreams.

Sharmila took the charge as the APCC president at a private function hall and addressed the rank and file. She said that Dr Rajasekhar Reddy had always wanted to see Rahul Gandhi as prime minister of the country. She said that the dream would come true only if all the supporters of Dr Reddy joined her.

She said that she is ready to work for the ideals of her father and wanted everyone to support her. She also said that any vote given to the TDP or the YSR Congress would help the BJP strengthen in Delhi. She said that both the parties were supporting the BJP in Delhi despite the BJP not doing anything for Andhra Pradesh.

She said that both the TDP and the YSR Congress have compromised with the BJP leadership despite the party not giving the special category status to the state. While the Congress had promised the special category status, the BJP wanted to give it for 10 years. However, the special category status was not given to the state even after ten years of bifurcation, she said.

The special category status would have brought industries to the state with the incentives offered by the Central government. The industries would have given jobs to the locals, she said. Now, with no special category status, there are no industries and no jobs for the people, she said.

She also blamed both the TDP and the YSR Congress for neglecting the Polavaram project. She said that the project was started by Dr Rajasekhar Reddy who completed the right and left main canals. The TDP and the YSR Congress have failed to complete the project even after ten years, she said.

Congress eyes on its vote bank, appoints Sharmila as PCC chief

0

The Congress leadership in Delhi is eyeing its vote bank in Andhra Pradesh. The party wants to get back its past glory and get back its vote bank. The party had lost its vote bank to the ruling YSR Congress after the State was bifurcated in 2014.

The entire Congress vote bank went to Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSR Congress. Even the leaders have gone to the YSR Congress. The party is suffering due to lack of leaders and voters. A handful of leaders who are now with the Congress are unable to make any impact in electoral politics.

With an intention to get back the vote bank, the party appointed Y S Sharmila as the AP Congress Committee president. The party removed incumbent Gidugu Rudra Raju to facilitate her appointment. Rudra Raju was made a special invitee into the Congress Working Committee.

The Congress leadership believes that Sharmila would be able to bring the party’s vote bank to the party. She wants to fight her brother and AP chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and get his vote bank to the Congress.

The rank and file of the Congress have gone to the YSR Congress led by Jagan Mohan Reddy after the state was bifurcated. The party faced humiliating defeat in the 2014 general election to the state Assembly and was almost washed out of the political scene in the subsequent 2019 general election.

The Congress leadership now wants to use Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy’s legacy to fight and get back the past glory. The Congress believes that people of the state would accept Sharmila as the political heir of Dr Rajasekhar Reddy.

It is now to be seen whether the people would accept her as the political heir of Dr Rajasekhar Reddy or not. If people accept her, they will come back to the Congress giving a rude shock to Jagan Mohan Reddy.

It would be difficult for Jagan Mohan Reddy to retain his vote bank if people really take Sharmila as the political heir to Dr Rajasekhar Reddy. It has to be seen what Jagan Mohan Reddy would do when his sister gets down to the work as the new APCC president.

Can YS Sharmila Truly Resurrect the Congress Party in Andhra Pradesh?

0

YS Sharmila, the daughter of the late YSR, has recently made a surprising political move by joining the Congress party. This decision has sparked widespread speculation about her role and the potential impact on the party’s fortunes in Andhra Pradesh.

Rumors of PCC Chief Post: A New Beginning?

Rumors are circulating that Sharmila might be appointed as the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief in Andhra Pradesh. This move raises questions about her ability to revive a party that has faced significant challenges in the state.

First Challenge: YS Family’s Previous Comments on Congress Conspiracy Behind YSR Death:

Sharmila’s political journey is intertwined with the complex dynamics of her family and their historical affiliations with the Congress party. Her father, YSR, served as the Chief Minister under the Congress banner. However, political disputes led to the formation of YSRCP by her brother, Jagan, who later campaigned against the Congress. During those times, Sharmila stood by her brother and openly criticized the Congress. Articles published in their media outlet, Sakshi, hinted at conspiracy theories involving the Congress and Sonia Gandhi behind the death of YSR. Now, with her return to the Congress fold, the challenge lies in convincing the people that she genuinely supports the party.

Second Challenge: The Lingering Impact of Bifurcation

The Congress party’s decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh in 2014 had severe repercussions. The unscientific division, resulting in the creation of Telangana, led to resentment among the people of AP. The absence of proper capital for residual Andhra Pradesh and insufficient resources further fueled anti-Congress sentiments. Convincing the people to trust Congress again, considering the lasting damage caused by the bifurcation, poses a significant challenge.

Third Challenge: Vote Bank Diversion to Jagan’s Party

The collapse of the Congress in Andhra Pradesh resulted in the swift rise of Jagan’s YSRCP. Establishing YSRCP at the grassroots level redirected the Congress vote bank towards Jagan’s party. Winning back this support for Congress, while Jagan’s party remains strong, presents a formidable challenge.

Fourth Challenge: Sharmila’s Image of Failed Politician in Telangana

Sharmila’s recent foray into Telangana politics, where she formed the YSRTP and made comments dismissing her connection with Andhra Pradesh, adds another layer of complexity. Her inconsistent stance and disparaging remarks about AP could hinder her acceptance among the public, creating an additional challenge in the revival of the Congress party. Her image of a failed politician in Telangana is a minus point for the Congress party too.

In conclusion, YS Sharmila’s entry into the Congress party in Andhra Pradesh is laden with challenges. From credibility issues stemming from her past criticisms to the lingering impact of the ill-fated bifurcation, the hurdles are manifold. Winning back a lost vote bank and overcoming public skepticism due to her recent comments in Telangana further compound the difficulties. Sharmila’s political journey to revive the Congress in Andhra Pradesh is undeniably marked by complexities that only time will unravel.

YSR Congress MLAs lining up at Congress

0

The ruling YSR Congress MLAs from Andhra Pradesh are lining up at the Congress ahead of the 2024 general elections to the State Assembly.

It was Mangalagiri MLA Alla Ramakrishna Reddy who left the party first and announced that he would go with Y S Sharmila, who joined the Congress. He said he would also join the Congress and contest as MLA candidate in the coming elections.

Now another MLA, Kapu Ramachandra Reddy from Rayadurg Assembly constituency is quitting the YSR Congress shortly. He will be joining the Congress some time this week. He met former APCC president, former minister, and Congress Working Committee Member N Raghuveera Reddy at his residence.

Raghuveera Reddy welcomed Ramachandra Reddy into the Congress. He had also promised Congress ticket for MLA seat to Ramachandra Reddy from Rayadurgam and his son Praveen from Kalyandurg Assembly constituency.

Sources say that Vijayawada Central MLA Malladi Vishnu is also knocking at the Congress door. He was stripped off the constituency incharge post. Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had appointed former minister and Vijayawada West Assembly constituency MLA Velampalli Srinivas as incharge for the Vijayawada Central seat. Vishnu is not happy with the development and is said to be planning to quit the party shortly.

Another MLA from Penamaluru, Kolusu Pardha Saradhi is also said to be leaving the party shortly. Though he met the chief minister and held talks with him two days ago, Saradhi is said to be disappointed with the party chief’s decision to deny ticket to him in this election.

Sources say that Saradhi had met the TDP leaders in his office in Vijayawada last night and held talks over changing the party. Sources indicate that Saradhi had made up his mind and decided to join the TDP in the presence of party chief N Chandrababu Naidu.

There are at least a dozen sitting MLAs who are looking at Jana Sena, TDP and Congress to contest the coming elections. All of them were denied tickets by Jagan Mohan Reddy and they are now planning to contest in some party or the other, sources said.

Merger Effect: Extensive Trolling of YS Sharmila on Social Media

0

n a surprising political move, YS Sharmila officially aligned herself with the Congress at the AICC headquarters in Delhi, merging her YSRTP into the party. A warm welcome from AICC president Mallikharjuna Kharge and Rahul Gandhi fueled speculation about her potential role, with talks of her being appointed as APCC president or AICC general secretary. The possibility of a Rajya Sabha membership from Karnataka added another layer to the unfolding narrative, courtesy of her strong connections in the state, facilitated by Deputy Chief Minister D K Shiva Kumar.

However, Sharmila’s decision to merge her party into the Congress triggered a substantial backlash from netizens, resulting in extensive trolling on social media. Critics swiftly unearthed past videos where she accused the Congress of backstabbing her family by naming her late father YSR in an FIR despite his instrumental role in the party’s victory. The irony of her earlier statements, suggesting YSR would have advocated spitting on Congress, now reverberates as she joins the same party.

Her recent focus on Telangana politics added another layer of criticism, as she had previously dismissed questions about Andhra Pradesh, her brother YS Jagan’s realm, by claiming it didn’t concern her. Videos circulating online expose her prior comments, categorizing AP as a mere “neighbor state” for her. Additionally, her earlier insinuations of a conspiracy behind YSR’s death, indirectly pointing fingers at the Congress, resurfaced on social media.

Despite Sharmila’s financial prowess, evident in her substantial wealth, her political journey seems plagued by persistent challenges and the scrutiny of an increasingly unforgiving online audience.

Y S Sharmila joins Congress finally

0

Y S Sharmila joined the Congress in Delhi on Thursday. She went to the AICC headquarters and joined the party. She also merged her YSRTP in the Congress.

AICC president Mallikharjuna Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi welcomed her into the party. They gave her the party towel and received her in the party office. Sharmila’s husband and evangelist Brother Anil Kumar was also present on the occasion.

There is speculation that Sharmila would be made the APCC president and would be given the responsibility to lead the party for the 2024 general elections to the state Assembly. However, the party is likely to name her as the AICC general secretary and would be given some state, besides taking care of the party in the two Telugu states.

There is also a speculation that Sharmila would be given Rajya Sabha membership from Karnataka. She has strong connections in the Congress Party in Karnataka. Deputy chief minister D K Shiva Kumar is closely associated to the YSR family, and it was he who lobbied with her to join the Congress.

Sharmila started her YSRTP on July 8, 2021. She undertook a historic padayatra in Telangana and chose not to contest the Assembly elections. She supported the Congress in the just-concluded Assembly elections and played a key role in the victory of the party.

Later, speaking to the media, Sharmila said that she was happy to join the Congress, which she said was the only secular national party in the country. She said that she was pained at the demolition of 2000 churches in Manipur. This happened because there was no secular party in the government at the Centre, she said.

Sharmila said that her late father, Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy wanted to see Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Minister of the country. She had come to the Congress now only to realise his dream. She expressed confidence that the Congress would win the coming general elections to the Parliament and Rahul would become the Prime Minister.

Sharmila joining Congress – whose gain it will be?

0

YSR Telangana Party president Y S Sharmila is all set to join the Congress Party. She is likely to join the party in the presence of AICC president Mallikharjuna Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka on January 4 in Delhi.

She is holding a meeting of the party leaders in Hyderabad on Tuesday and is scheduled to announce her party’s merger with the Congress at the meeting. She is also likely to take around 50 senior leaders of the party into Congress.

There is a lot of debate in the political circles that she would be used in Andhra Pradesh to get back the Congress vote bank. The Congress’ traditional vote bank had gone to the YSR Congress in the state along with the leaders. Several Congress leaders have joined the YSR Congress deserting the Congress Party in Andhra Pradesh.

Now, the Congress is eyeing those votes and wants to use Sharmila, the daughter of late Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, to get the votes. She was asked to hold two meetings – one in Visakhapatnam and the other in Vijayawada for the party.

It is said that she would be able to get both the leaders and the vote bank for the party from the YSR Congress. Her joining with the Congress would have an adverse impact on the YSR Congress and the electoral prospects of Jagan Mohan Reddy.

But she would be busy for more than two months with a marriage in the family. Her son is getting married, and she would be busy with those celebrations rather than being of any use to the Congress Party.

By the time she comes out of family function, the election heat in Andhra Pradesh would die and thus she might be of not much use for the Congress. She would have less time on hand to tour the district, meet the leaders and invite them to join the Congress.

But she would be getting the real benefit from Congress. She is likely to be made the general secretary of the party, besides Rajya Sabha member from Karnakata. Thus she would be getting the benefit from the party rather than helping the party.

AP Congress holds top meet in Delhi

0

The Andhra Pradesh Congress leaders are holding a high-level meeting in Delhi with the party high command on Wednesday. APCC president Gidugu Rudra Raju, former president N Raghuveera Reddy, working president Sunkara Padmasree and others are attending the meeting.

AICC president Mallikharjuna Kharge, senior leader Rahul Gandhi and AICC general secretary K C Venugopal are attending from the high command. The leaders are scheduled to discuss the party’s position in the state ahead of the 2024 general elections.

The Congress had lost its vote bank to the YSR Congress after the state’s bifurcation. People have been angry with the Congress leadership for one side bifurcation. AP lost so much to Telangana in the bifurcation only because of the Congress leaders. People are not ready to excuse the Congress leaders for this mistake.

However, the Congress had been making its presence in the state despite the total washout of the vote bank. This time the party leaders are confident of winning at least a couple of Assembly seats. They are also hopeful of getting some vote bank back to the party.

The party leaders are also confident of getting some sitting MLAs from the ruling YSR Congress to contest on the Congress ticket this time. As the YSR Congress is dropping a good number of sitting MLAs for the 2024 general election, the Congress leaders are eyeing on them to come to the party and contest.

Besides this, the party leaders are also expecting Y S Sharmila to head the party in the state, at least for the elections. They want Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy’s daughter to give some life to the party in the state.

The party high command is also of the opinion that Sharmila’s leadership would give some breathing space for the party in the state. The high command wants Sharmila to organise two meetings in the state – one at Visakhapatnam and the other at Vijayawada. Congress senior leader Priyanka Gandhi is expected to attend the Visakhapatnam meeting while Rahul Gandhi is expected to attend the Vijayawada meeting.

The party wants to win the hearts of some people in the two cities besides the state and get some advantage in the form of votes. It is to be seen how far these efforts would help the Congress to get back to its lost position in the state!

Tough time ahead for Revanth in Telangana

0

PCC president A Revanth Reddy took charge as the chief minister of Telangana state. He is the second chief minister of the state after K Chandrasekhar Rao, who was the chief minister for two consecutive terms.

Revanth Reddy also had 11 ministers taking oath along with him on the day and all the 11 ministers were selected by the Congress top leadership. He had no choice in selecting his own team as the Congress has the tradition of imposing the ministers into the cabinet.

While Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka was made deputy chief minister and given the revenue portfolio, another senior leader N Uttam Kumar Reddy was made Home Minister. Komatireddy Venkata Reddy was made Minister for Municipal Administration, while Damodara Rajanarasimha was made Minister for Health and family welfare and Ponnam Prabhakar was made Minister for BC Welfare.

All these five ministers are very seniors in the Congress party, and they have their own Godfathers in the top leadership. In fact, they were the contenders for the chief minister post, which was given to Revanth Reddy, silencing them.

Among these five top senior leaders in the cabinet, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Uttam Kumar Reddy and Venkata Reddy are not going to support the chief minister or may not follow him. They might be taking their own decisions even without informing the chief minister. They would also be acting as chief ministers of the state.

It is going to be tough for Revanth Reddy to handle these three ministers. Damodara Rajanarasimha and Ponnam Prabhakar might surrender to Revanth Reddy. While Damodara Rajanarasimha is a soft and cool leader, Ponnam is somewhat junior and not an aggressive dissident. These two may not cause any inconvenience to the chief minister, but the other three might cause some problems to Revanth Reddy.

It is to be seen how Revanth Reddy would handle them. There are another five ministers likely to be taken into the cabinet. Among these five, Revanth Reddy would have the chance to pick up from his own team that might have some help to him. Portfolios like Finance are still pending and will be given to his own men.

Rajaiah’s Secret Meeting with Damodar Raja Narasimha: From TRS to Congress?

1

Telangana MLA Rajaiah meeting former deputy chief minister and Congress leader Damodar Rajanarsimha secretly caused a sensation among political circles. As Rajaiah’s political trajectory has taken some unexpected turns in recent times, this meeting has a significant political impact.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), led by Chief Minister KCR, recently released its initial list of MLA candidates for the upcoming elections. With names unveiled for 115 constituencies, the focus was on minimal changes to the existing roster of sitting MLAs. However, one notable omission from the list was MLA Rajaiah. Rajaiah’s exclusion from the candidate list might seem like a regular political development, but it’s essential to understand the context. His political career has been marred by allegations of sexual harassment from multiple individuals. These allegations have cast a shadow over his political future and have likely contributed to his absence from the candidate list. Notably, the Station Ghanpur ticket, which Rajaiah held, was announced for Kadiyam Srihari in his place.

Despite his omission from the BRS candidate list, Rajaiah has maintained his faith in Chief Minister KCR. Some political observers speculated that he might receive a Member of Parliament (MP) ticket from BRS, indicating that he might still have a role to play within the party. However, in a surprising twist, Rajaiah recently had a clandestine meeting with Congress leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha. This meeting has sparked speculation about Rajaiah’s potential shift in political loyalties to the Congress party. One significant aspect that fuels these speculations is the shared community and rapport between Rajaiah and Rajanarasimha. Both leaders belong to the same community, and their longstanding relationship adds weight to the rumors of Rajaiah joining Congress. It’s important to note that Rajaiah’s political journey has been far from linear. He was initially a member of the Congress party before making a significant move to TRS during the Telangana movement. Now, as the political tides ebb and flow, he appears to be exploring options beyond the BRS.

As the election season in Telangana gains momentum, Rajaiah’s political future remains uncertain – Will he secure a ticket from Congress? Or will he continue in BRS?

CWC’s Selection Oversight: Telangana Leaders Left Out

1

The recent unveiling of the new Congress working Committee led by national president Mallikharjun Kharge has spotlighted a notable omission. While senior leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi found their place, key figures from Telangana were conspicuously absent from the Congress Working Committee (CWC), a decision that could have consequences as the state gears up for assembly elections.

Kharge introduced a 39-member CWC, including 32 permanent members and 13 special invitees. Curiously, while Andhra Pradesh secured representation with Raghuveera Reddy, the same courtesy wasn’t extended to Telangana leaders. Moreover, AP Congress leader and industrialist T. Subbirami Reddy is named as Permanent invitee and leaders like Pallam Raju named as special invitee. Despite Telangana’s pivotal role in the political landscape, the absence of active Telangana figures in the CWC raises concerns. This decision came as shocker to Telangana leaders like Revant Reddy and Uttam Kumar Reddy.

With assembly elections looming, this exclusion risks alienating Telangana’s voters and marring Congress’s ability to address some issues. The decision of high command , to include couple of leaders from AP where Congress party doesn’t have any stakes and not considering any leader from the region of Telangana where the Congress party is the main opposition, perplexed political observers as well as the common man.

As Telangana’s assembly elections inch closer, it’s evident that Congress’s decision to sideline key Telangana leaders from decision-making forums like the CWC was a missed opportunity.

Telangana Congress leaders detained to foil state-wide protest

0

Telangana Congress leaders were either placed under house arrest or taken into preventive custody across the state on Thursday in view of the planned protest by the opposition party to coincide with culmination of the decennial state formation celebrations by the state government.

Police placed top Congress leaders under house arrest to prevent them from participating in planned protests.

The 21-day-long celebrations are coming to an end on Thursday. The Congress party has dubbed the occasion ‘Dashabdi Dhaga’ (a decade of cheating) and called for protests across the state.

Congress leaders in districts were taken into preventive custody or placed under house arrest. Senior leader and former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir was placed under house arrest in Hyderabad.

On the last day of the celebrations, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is set to inaugurate Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial ‘Amara Deepam’ which has come up in front of the state Secretariat on the banks of Hussain Sagar lake in Hyderabad.

The Congress party condemned the house arrests. It termed the arrests of party leaders and activists protesting peacefully as the murder of democracy and demanded the Director General of Police to unconditionally release them.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) A. Revanth Reddy termed the arrest of Congress leaders as undemocratic. He said in the name of state formation day celebrations, the ruling party was running a campaign by spending public money. He alleged that KCR did not fulfill a single promise made to people.

He alleged that Chief Minister KCR extended no help to the families of the martyrs who laid down their lives for Telangana. He said that the KCR family undermined the aspirations of the martyrs and looted the state of Telangana as its own fiefdom. The Congress Party will continue to fight on behalf of the people of Telangana until their exploitation is stopped and the aspirations of the immortals are fulfilled, reads a tweet from official handle of TPCC.

The Congress had asked its supporters to burn effigies representing CM KCR, likening him to Dashanana Ravanasura with 10 heads, each symbolising a broken election promise.

Revanth Reddy had said that each head of KCR will depict failed promises such as the KG-to-PG free education scheme, fee reimbursement, unemployment allowance, employment for every household, 2BHK housing, 3 acres for Dalits, podu land pattas, loan waiver, employment, 12 per cent reservation for minorities, and 12 per cent reservation for STs. He also alleged that the BRS government failed to honour Telangana martyrs.

YSR Telangana party chief Sharmila meets K’taka dyCM Shivakumar

1

Y.S. Sharmila, sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Reddy and YSR Telangana Party President, called on Karnataka Congress President and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar at his residence in Bengaluru on Monday.

According to Shivakumar’s office, it was just a cordial meeting between the two leaders and did not divulge any details. Shivakumar is a close family friend of Sharmila Reddy since the days of late Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YSR Rajasekhara Reddy.

Sources said that Sharmila Reddy is keen on forging an alliance with the Congress party in Telangana state and she had spoken to Shivakumar in this regard.

Congress is also looking forward to unite anti-Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) votes ahead the Assembly elections scheduled later this year.

Priyanka thanks people of Karnataka for ‘historic’ Cong victory

0

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday thanked the people of Karnataka after her party emerged victorious in the Assembly election, polling for which was held on May 10, while also congratulating “all the hardworking workers and leaders of the Karnataka Congress”.

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the people of Karnataka for giving the Congress party a historic mandate. This is a victory for your issues,” Priyanka Gandhi said in a tweet.

“This is a victory for prioritising the progress of Karnataka. This is a victory for politics that unites the country,” she added.

Assuring the people of Karnataka to stick to the promises the Congress has made in the manifesto, she said: “The party will work with full dedication to implement the guarantees given to the people of Karnataka. Long live Karnataka, long live Congress.”

Meanwhile, her brother and former Congress president Rahul Gandhi in a tweet said: “The power of the poor has defeated the power of the capitalist friends of the BJP.”

Social Engineering: The main reason for Congress win in Karnataka

0

Karnataka results that are coming out are almost in Sync with the opinion polls and expert predictions. Congress is leading in more than 120 seats while 113 is the magic figure in Karnataka.Debate is going on about what are the reasons for such a positive wave for Congress in this elections. Details as follows.

It seems social engineering is the main reason for Congress’s victory in Karnataka. Especially Congress’s social engineering with Lingayat and Vokkaligas seems to have been the major factor in Congress’s lead in Karnataka elections this this time. Lingayats have around 17% votes in Karnataka. In the past BJP rose to power in this state with the support of Lingayats. BJP could win their trust by putting Yediyurappa as front face for their party. But now Lingayats feel betrayed by BJP as BJP sidelined former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa. Not only that, but BJP also denied tickets for some prominent Lingayat leaders like Jagadish Shettar and all this made Lingayats felt betrayed by BJP. Cong leaders like Siddaramaiah reiterated this in several meetings and also said that Lingayats are going to vote for Congress this time.

Another community that turned wave for Congress is Vokkaligas. They have 11% vote bank in Karnataka. DK Shivakumar, who hails from this community is PCC chief for this state. Moreover, ED filing cases against him and central government agencies harassing him made Vokkaligas distance from BJP. In addition, as DK is also CM candidate, this community seems to have supported Congress big time in this elections. DK Shiva Kumar also has been openly saying that after SM Krishna, no leader from Vokkaligas has become CM of Karnataka.

In fact BJP sensed anti-wave on BJP from these communities before elections. In order to mitigate this risk, BJP government in Karnataka has increased the reservation given to the Lingayat and Vokkaliga communities by removing separate quota for Muslims. Muslims used to have 4% reservations under OBC category but BJP scrapped it and provided it to Lingayats and Vokkaligas 2% each. However, this last minute measure seen as political stunt of BJP for some votes by these 2 communities. Also, this decision further irked the minorities who are usually with Congress.

It seems minorties who have approximately 20% votebank, Lingayats who have 17% votebank and Vokkaligas who have 11% votebank have voted for Congress this
time. This social engineering of Congress along with the huge anti incumbency on BJP led to the Congress win in Karnataka.

Too many CM aspirants spoilsport for Karnataka Congress?

1

Congress party is facing a strange issue. While it faces the issue of lack of strong local leaders in several states, it faces the issue of too many strong leaders in Karnataka. Moreover, they are covering wide social base and silently fighting among themselves for the top chair. This triggers a debate whether too many CM aspirants hampering the prospects of Karnataka Congress. Details as follows.

Opinion polls predict Congress win:

Upcoming elections for the legislative assembly of the stae of Karnataka are scheduled on 10th May and the results will be out by 13th May. Most of the opinion polls stated that the ruling BJP facing huge wave of anti incumbency and Congress party has more chances to win the 2023 elections. On average, most of the opinion polls predict 100-120 seats for congress, 60-80 seats for BJP and 20-30 seats for JDS. Karnataka has 224 seats and any party getting 113 seats will form the government. Though most of the surveys predict that Congress will be the single largest party, almost all of them are mum on the question whether Congress can come into power without the support of JDS.

Too many CM aspirants in Congress:

At this crucial juncture, many leaders started projecting themselves as CM candidates.

Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar are the top two contestants for the CM post. Siddaramaiah was CM earlier and he is aspiring for a second term. Congress trouble shooter DK Shivakumar is one of the richest man in the country and he also says that after SM Krishna, no one from Vokkaliga caste became CM of Karnataka. He tacitly expressed his desire for the top chair through these statements. Another top contender is G Parameshwara, the prominent Dalit leader in the state. He served as a deputy CM during the Congress-]DS coalition government. He was also the president of KPCC for eight years. He says caste is not the main criteria for selecting the CM candidate. The next one in the race is former minister M B Patil, who hails from Lingayat community. He also claims his candidature for CM post and reminds that Lingayats are the huge chunk of the vote base of the state. In addition to this, some senior leaders of the BJP, including a former Chief Minister and a former deputy CM, joined Congress recently and aspire for the CM post. By realizing that the situation can go out of the hands anytime,Congess high command stepped in and asked leaders to stop discussing CM names.

As of now, it looks like the competition is between Siddaramaiah and Shiva Kumar but anything can happen in Congress. However, this factionalism in the Congress party and multiple CM aspirants fighting each other remain the biggest challenges to the Congress party at this moment.
