Self-immolation bid in Tirupati for AP special status

0

The movement for special category state status to Andhra Pradesh took a violent turn today when a youth attempted self-immolation in a meeting organized by the Congress party in Tirupati.

It is the first self-immolation attempt in recent times in Andhra Pradesh, though such incidents happened in Telangana during movement for  separate Telangana. The Seema-Andhra region, which also witnessed agitation, was free of such aberrations by the students and youth.

So, the Tirupati incident is certain to take the movement to a new height. Congress has launched the movement to exert pressure on Centre for special status. Today’s meeting was the first  in the series of meetings the party planned.

Former union minister Chiranjeevi, PCC president N Raghuvira Reddy,  opposition leader in Legislative council C Ramachandraiah also participated.

The  self-sacrifice indicates the depth of demand for special category status among the people of Andhra Pradesh.

Andhra Pradesh Congress today launched “praja poru” in Tirupati which began with a public meeting. When former minister Killi Kruparani was addressing the meeting, a local youth by name Muni Koti, created commotion, when he doused himself with petrol  and set afire while sitting among the people.  Congress workers have shifted the youth to Ruia hospital. The party succeeded in mobilizing party workers for the meeting in thousands. As it was once the Assembly constituency of Chiranjeevi, mega star’s fans also gathered in a big way for the meeting held  at Municipal junction in town.

According to sources, Koti is a Congress worker. He resorted to this extreme step only to demonstrate the immediacy of bestowing the special status on AP.

Koti is said to have suffered  50 pc burn injuries.

Undisturbed, Congress leaders continued the meeting.

Reacting to incident PCC president N Raghuvira Reddy reminded how Narendra Modi ditched Andhra Pradesh forcing  the people to hit roads for a legitimate right.

“While campaigning for elections, Narendra Modi told Tirupati people that after bifurcation   Seemandhra had become orphan. He also assured not to worry  about it as  BJP was coming to power and would take care of you,” the PCC president said and accused the BJP and TDP responsible for Koti’s attempted self-immolation.

Raghuvira announced Rs 2 lakh assistance to Koti and assured that Congress would take care of his treatment expenditure

CPI reaction

“Self-immolation is not the solution. Youth should not resort to suicides. It is they who backed out of their own assurances should commit suicide. As the centre and BJP leaders ditched the state, AP youth feel insulted and attempting to suicide out of frustration. This is only a beginning. The CPI is observing banth on August 11. Both TDP and BJP are responsible this tragic event,” CPI leader Narayana reacted.

Narayana appealed to the youth against taking any extreme step instead of fighting our justice.

“Koti incident should serve as eye-opener to all political parties to come together to achieve the special status for Andhra Pradesh,” Narayana said.

Movie actor Sivaji, who has been fighting for special status, warned center of serious consequences if something happens to Koti.

“All political parties, including TDP and BJP, should  think of importance of special status. Even Pavan Kalyana also should come out and fight for the special status,”Sivaji said and appealed to the youth not to take recourse to unwarranted sacrifices.

Thus spake Jana Reddy…

0

Opposition leader Kunduru Janareddy  is known for his indecipherable language. Though he speaks Telugu, one needs a brilliant interpreter to convey the meaning of his speeches. The joke was that the  talks with Naxalites, held when he was home minister during YSR regime, failed because they could not make head or tail of the home minster views  and quit the dialogue.

On Saturday, surprisingly, Jana Reddy used piercing language against CM KCR, which hardly needs any elaboration or interpretation.

“It is no problem  if he lives in camp office or any other place. Wherever he lived, he should think of people and their problems,”  Jana Reddy said. His disgust is clearly visible.

He said T-CM should also think of farmers who were in distress and demanded that Assembly should be convened immediately to discuss the problems.

Of late, the complaint against is that KCR is spending more time in his farm-house rather than working from secretariat. Recently he did not set foot in secretariat for over a month.

Not liquor, T-farmers need water

0

KCR’s intense love for luxury cars and his inappropriate longing to supply cheap liquor to the rural poor has come in for criticism from all quarters. Congress which is planning to launch second Telangana movement as per the call given by  Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi, wants to make this main plank.

Today the state Congress leaders , N Uttam Kumar Reddy (PCC president), Mallu Bhatti Vikramarkha, MLA Sampath Kumar, chief spokesperson Shravan Dasoju etc and briefed her about the what was happening in Telangana under TRS rule.

Even the issue of KCRs new cars and his weird liquor policy that laid emphasis on supplying cheap liquor to every village in the name of eradicating Gudumba, arrack also came up for discussion. She called upon Telangana people to wage second Telangana movement for peoples’ Telangana on the line of T-movement which they ran for ten year for the separate state.

Party spokesperson Mallu Ravi slammed KCR  for his for his misguided priorities. ” Entire Telangana received  deficit rainfall. Power shortage is acute. Dirnking water problem is aggravating. At this time,  instead of concentrating on addressing these issues, chief minister KCR, without any feeling of guilt, is advocating the drinking of cheap liquor as pain killer. He had no compunction to spend about 10 crore on a bus and four cars, even though new cars which were bought just an year ago were available.

He wondered how chief minister reviewed the Excise department readiness to make available cheap liquor from October 1, in every village.

TRS wooing former UPA minister Sarve

0

If TRS doesn’t want to promote anybody from its own ranks, it poaches on other parties. This is how Kadiyam Srihari,Talasani Srinivasa Yadav et al joined the TRS. Now the party is said to be wooing former UPA minister and Congress leader Sarve Satyanarayana to join the TRS. He represented Siddipet  and Malkajgiri  constituencies. Sarve Satyanarayana, a Madiga by caste wants to contest the Warangal byelection. As he is not assured of the ticket so far, TRS is finding it right moment to strike at Congress. Congress is toying with idea of fielding former Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar from Warangal LS byelection which is necessitated by the resignation of Kadayam Srihari.

The two-fold idea behind luring Savey is to liquidate Madiga Dandora leader Krishan Madiga once for all and remove established leaders from Congress. Krishna, a vocal leader with uncanny organizational skill, has been a baiter of chief minister KCR. By attracting Madiga leaders TRS can wean away madigas from Krishna. KCR succeeded to some extent by admitting Kadiyam Srihari and Manda Jagannatham. Telangana is a Madiga land and the caste a potential political force. It should not be allowed to gravitate towards Congress or TDP, is TRS idea.

Sarve is said to be waiting for the response from Congress leadership. Apart from Sarve, another Madiga leader and former deputy chief minister Damodara Rajanarasimha is also lobbying for the Warangal LS nomination. So, Sarve is tempted by the prospects of TRS nominating him for Warangal LS constiency byelection in case Congress favored Meira or Damodara.

Will Sarve, who used to praise  Sonia Gandhi, he never calls her Amma, a bit irritatingly for having made him union minister, bite the TRS bait and ditch the party which gave him new lease of life?

Special Status : War Clouds Gather in Andhra Pradesh

0

The “special status’  is  generating too much heat in Andhra Pradesh. The remark of union planning minister Rao Inderjit Singh that no state was special, stirred up harnet’s nest in the state. political parties are sharpening their knives to attakc TDP and BJP. The BJP, however, is trying to distance itself from TDP on the issue stating Centre was ready to assist the state in every possible way in lieu of special status. For BJP the special status is a settled matter. 14 th finance commission addressed it  and matter is fait accompli.

Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi, who visited the state last week and assured to the people that was ready to visit any place to fight for Special Status, on Saturday telephoned APCC president N Raghuvira Reddy to inform him that he would go to any extent to fight for special status to AP. He said all Congress MPs are meeting on Monday in New Delhi to prepare an action plan. Raghuvira Reddy said APCC would formulate its own action plan.

Even CPM also pitched in. Senior leader Prakash Karat said CPM would fight for AP’s cause.
“Just because special status was UPA government’ commitment NDA is not supposed to deny the much wanted special status to AP. We will fight for it,” Karat said in Hyderabad.

Karat

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who address party workers in Vijayawada today is said have opined that Andhra Pradesh which faced painful division should not be equated with other states for the application of general fund devolution formula.

Naidu

“Andhra Pradesh has been divided against our wishes. It was centre who thrust division on us. We were denied capital, revenue, water, power etc. To recover from the division A P needs special status. We want special treatment  from the centre. We will continue to put pressure on centre,” he told TDP extended meeting.

BJP however defended the union minister statement. Purandeswri, the rising star of BJP in Andhra firmament, said state’s requirements had already been taken care of by 14 th Fiance Commission. The 14 th Finance Commission had increased to devolution of funds to states up to 60 per cent to meet the growing requirements. And the centre was ready to extend all support to the AP, she told media in Vizag.

Capture

In menatime, Anantapur MP J C Diwakar Reddy, who is known for bizarre statements, today said in Vijayawada that chief minister knows it pretty well that the special status was not a realizable demand. “So, we are fighting to get more funds to state of Andhra pradesh,” he said rediculing Pawan Kalyan’s statement that TDP MPs were not doing enough on the demand.

Capture

“It seems he has a plan to hit the streets to get special status. We have staged dharnas in parliament, stalled the House and represented many union ministers. If Pawan Kalya is ready to lead us , we would  walk behind him,” he said in Vijayawada.

Rahul Effect?: Naidu shifts focus on Rayalaseema

0

Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu appears to have shifted his focus on Rayalaseeama. Wednesday was the day of Rayalaseema in AP secretariat.

For the past few months, the region is not all in the news, except for looming drought in wake of failure of monsoons to bring enough rains so far. This region’s Anantapur district receives lowest rainfall in India, after Jaisalmer.

There has been growing resentment among the leaders of R’seema that Naidu is giving short shrift to the region just because his TDP did not get enough seats from the region. YSR Congress and Congress have raised the banner of revolt to highlight governmental apathy towards the region. Oppositon leader YS Jagan toured the region in the name Odarpu yatra. AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi toured Anantapur  and distributed financial assistance to family members of those farmers who committed suicide, all this happened while Naidu was busy with Pushkaralu.

Both parties are planning a movement, though separately, for the allocation of more funds for the early completion of Galeru-Nagari and Handri-Neeva projects.Congress seniors DL Ravindra Reddy and C Ramachandraiah have called upon people of Rayalaseema to take to streets to fight for the rights of the backward region, “as the TDP government is reneging on its promises made to Rayalaseema.”
While the Opposition parties have been more visible in region, governmental activity is conspicuously absent.

Rubbing salt to the wound,  for the past one year, coastal Andhra, because of the development of high profile capital, business conclave in Vizag, Godavari Pushkaralu, tours of Singapore teams etc,  has attracted an envious attention.

Naidu seems to have realized the political ramifications of these lopsided developments.

He devoted most of Wednesday to Rayalaseema.

He held a video conference with the collectors of Anantapur, Chittoor, Kurnool and Kadapa districts and inquired about the progress of ongoing irrigation projects in the region.
Chief Minister directed the officials to complete all the unfinished works of Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanti (HNSS) phase-II by December 2015 as the project is key to store Krishna waters, which will be brought to Rayalaseema after the completion of Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Project, aimed at diverting Godavari waters to Krishna Basin. He also ordered the officials to ensure that
Galeru Nagari Sujala Sravanti (GNSS), Telugu Ganga and Srisailam Right Branch Canal, be completed at the earliest.

Interestingly, the State government also announced an interim special package with an amount of Rs 49.5 lakh to support the families of 33 farmers, who had committed suicide in Ananatapuramu. Is it not Rahul effect?

YSRC has fired the salvo that without completing either the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanti (HNSS) or Galeru Nagari Sujala Sravanti (GNSS) project, how you divert Krishna Waters simply by finishing Patti Seema.

He gave Collectors, Engineer-in-chiefs and Chief Engineer’s extraordinary powers to expedite the completion of works od the pending projects.

Rahul’s New Andhra Politics – No Sonia, only Indiramma

0

Rahul Gandhi’s trip to Anantapuramu district on the pretext of consoling the families of those farmers who committed suicide in the past one year in TDP rule out of indebtedness is not an innocent yatra of a Congress leader to extend some monetary assistance.

There is a clear and ambitious political design to relaunch Congress party in Andhra Pradesh and reposition it as the active opposition party.

Rahul took up Padayatra from Obuladevara Cherutu (ODC)  in the backdrop of a significant political development in the  state. Choosing ODC itself as the starting point of his padayatra is a politically loaded move.

Rahul's Padayatra

Void in Opposition

Rahul was quick to notice that there is no opposition party in the successor state of Andhra Pradesh.  He noticed that  farmers and weavers are bereft of any real political backing as both Opposition YSR party and ruling Telugu Desam party have surrendered to Prime Minister Modi for different reasons. YSR Congress leader Jaganmohan Reddy who is neck deep in corruption charges and probes is not in a position wage a war with centre to extract major concessions to state as his clash with Modi only strengthen the hands of his rival Chandrababu Naidu. He would be finished in no time if Modi and Naidu were to join hands. So Jagan is behaving like a party that has “observer status” in NDA. His fight, even though centre is backing out on in the implementation of provision of Andhra Pradesh Reoragnization Act-2014, is with  Naidu alone. Centre has no role in his scheme of things.

Naidu’s Achilles heel

Similarly chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu doen’t want to antagonize Prime Minister Modi, despite the brazen apathy being shown to Andhra Pradesh post-bifurcation.

Naidu knows very well that Modi is not extending the expected support on lines previous the NDA led by Vajapayee used to do. But, he can’t afford to say it in public and invite wrath of Modi, who is on a stronger wicket. In the past one year, there has been no public meeting where Naidu has not admitted that  Modi was his leader and the country was in safe hands. The cash-for-vote scam has further weakened his position at the national level. There is no force in TDP’s fight for special status, grants to bridge deficit, liberal assistance capital construction etc. Rahul is quite  aware of the weak points of Naidu.

Rahul’s Ambitious Plan

When ruling party and opposition party have jettisoned fighting spirit, Rahul wants Congress to fill the gap as real and active opposition party. He wants to turn the non-presence of Congress in Assembly into an opportunity and transform the Congress into a party among the people and on the streets to fight for every issue. PCC president N Raghuvira Reddy has been implementing this for quite some time. Today Rahul formally launched this line of struggle.

No Sonia, only Indiramma

Another important political element in Rahul trip is setting aside party president Sonia Gandhi, who is largely being seen as responsible for the painful division of Andhra Pradesh. People are still not coming to grips on Sonia’s role in carving out Telangana. In sync with the mood of the people, Rahul  did not talk of Sonia Gandhi much in his speeches. However, the AICC vice president invoked the name of Indira Gandhi, his grandmother,  in more than one way. The tour of Rahul is governed by the realization that  Indiramma is more relevant to Andhra now than Sonia Gandhi. The choosing of Obuladevera Cheruvu is a calculated decision and meant to evoke memories of Indira Gandhi. He could have started his payatra from any other village. But It misses the political element. In 1979 India Gandhi visited the village and addressed the people. Rahul paid tributes to his grandmother and planted a sapling at that place to keep the memories of Indiramma alive for ever. Similarly, he uttered name of  Indiramma several times and said his grandmother had great affection for Telugu people and he also inherited the same love for Andhra People. Though fresh in mind, he did not recall his mother’s tours to Anantapuramu district.

We have keep our fingers crossed for Rahul meta design to revive the party and make it politically fit to contest 2019 elections. Or it has to search for an ally in YSRC or some other non-entity.

Rahul woke up from slumber- YSRC

0

The Principal Opposition party strongly responded  to Rahul’s biting  criticism that there was no oppostion in Andhra Pradesh.

YSR Congress wondered that howAICC  vice president Rahul Gandhi suddenly woke up from a deep slumber  and all of a sudden wanting to console the farmers of of Andhra Pradesh.

The party   said its only a ploy  to regain a foothold in the state.

“Rahul Gandhi who did not react to the major issues that have been affecting the State suddenly descended on the State only with ulterior and political motives as the Congress Party, which was responsible for division of the state, was and is working in tandem with TDP,’ Party leader K Parthasradhi  remarked  on Friday.

Before pointing  accusing finger at the Opposition  he  should first make it clear as to why the Congress Party did not raise in Parliament the issue of the tragedy at Godavari Pushkaralu  and  the encounter deaths of Tamil Nadu workers at Sheshachalam forest in the name of red sanders smugglers, he said.

He said it was the main Opposition YSR Congress that had taken up the issue of Polaravam, special status and others with the Centre time and again.

Rahul Gandhi’s  tall talk would  be of no help to him or his Party, Partha Sarathi said.

He alleged that the entire exercise seems to be sponsored by TDP as the two parties had worked in tandem on earlier occasions .

Attributing  Congress victory in the State in 2004 and 2009 to YS Rajasekhar Reddy’s persona he said the Congress was wiped out in post- YSR elections and had no scope of any revival.

Rahul consoles Anantapuramu “victims” of TDP rule

0

AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi assured the people of Andhra Pradesh that he would go to any place to fight for the implementation of Polavaram project and to achieve the special category status to the state of Andhra Pradesh.

Addressing a rally in Obuladevaracheruvu village in Anantapuramu district on Friday he said he would not back out from these demands like TDP and BJP.

Recalling that BJP had assured to bestow special status on AP,  he said now both TDP and YSRC leaders had conveniently compromised with Modi government.  Rahul said  to reach the top rank among the Indian states AP needs special category status.

He said Congress would stand by the farmers and weavers of the state and fight for the improvement of their lives.

” My grandmother Indiramma had a special bond with Andhra Pradesh people. She visited this village when I was a child. I am proud to say that I too have an equally strong bond with the people of Andhra Pradesh,” he said.

Rahul who arrived in the village this morning  from Bengaluru to console the families of farmers and weavers whose committed suicide because of growing indebtedness during the one year rule of TDP.

He  accused PM Modi of trying to rob the lands of formers to give away them to corporate companies.

“ The UPA government had  brought about the land acquisition bill in such a manner that no government can take away their lands on the pretext of SEZs or some other purposes. Now, Modi government is planning to dilute statue. We won’t allow,” he declared.

Rahul gave away ex-gratia on behalf of Congress party to 45 families.

He visited the place and planted a sapling  where his grand mother Indira Gandhi  addressed the public meeting in 1979.

Rahul, after interacting with farmers launched his 30 km-long  Padayatra from Obuladevaracheruvu to Mamillakunta village to meet other families of farmers and weavers.

Earlier, former union minister and Congress leader K Chiranjeevi rapped Telugu Desam government for cheating farmers in the form of  loan-waiver. He said suicides among the farmers were on the rise in state. In the past one year, Chiranjeevi  said, state reported an increase of 35 per cent in suicides. This data was official and compiled by national crime records bureau, he added.

He lambasted the TDP chief minister Naidu for cheating poor farmers after getting votes on the promise of loan waiver.

He said a farmer present in the meeting told him that for a loan of about Rs 4000 he got only Rs 110 waiver.

“Just like Sonia visited the area before 2004 to console the families of farmers who committed suicide as a result of 9-year TDP rule, Rahul was here to again console and reassure the victims of present TDP rule.  He said as in 2004, in 2019 as well, history would be repeated and Congress would come to power,” Chiranjeevi said.

PCC president N Raghuvira Reddy translated Rahul’s speech in to Telugu.

All senior leaders from the state including C Ramanchandraiah, KVP Ramachandra Rao, T Subbiramireddy etc participated in Padayatra.

TRS contributes to LS adjournment

0

On the second of the Monsoon Session, today, parliament proceedings were disrupted by the opposition parties who demanded the resignation of Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivrajsingh Chouhan, Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhar Raje and external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj for the connection with Lalit Modi and Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh.

TRS MPs also contributed to the din, albeit on different demand, which led to the adjournment of the House. TRS MPs displaying placards demanded setting up of separate High Court for the state of Telangana.

Congress members, including party president Sonia Gandhi, entered the Houses wearing black bands on their arms protesting the inaction from the government. They also rushed into the well of the House.

A warning from the Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan that she would invoke automatic suspension provision  against those who disrupt parliamentary proceedings by shouting slogans and showing placards, instead of pacifying, provoked the Opposition more. Angry MPs from Congress led by Jyotiraditya Scindia, rushed to the well. TRS, SP and RJD MPs followed suit.

Congress members carried placards with slogans  “Modiji, break silence and suspend Sushma” and “Bade Modi Meharban tho chote Modi pehalwan” etc. Neither Prime Minister Narendra Modi nor Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi were present at the times pandemonium. But, external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj has watched the scenes in the house motionless sitting in the front row along with colleagues Rajnath Singh and Ravi Shankar Prasad. Amid the protest from the Opposition the proceedings in the Lok Sabha were adjourned for the day.

Talasani: I have resigned in December last

0

Adding more confusion to the ‘resignation controversy’ Telangana commercial taxes minister Talasani Srinivas Yadava said he had resigned from Assembly way back in December itself.

He said he was moving around with a copy of the letter in the pocket. He flaunted it to the benefit of media.

Talasani had to give this clarification following pressure from Telugu Desam party and Congress for his resignation from Assembly as he defected from TDP to TRS.

He repeatedly claimed that the did submit his resignation letter to the speaker.

T-Congress , however, sought a copy of the resignation letter from Assembly speaker’s office under RTI Act. The speaker’s office  clarified that  it had not received any resignation letter from Talasani Srinivas Yadav. Later on Congress launched a campaign that Talasani had lied to the Assembly speaker, Governor and the chief minister. They demanded the governor that Talasani be booked under 420.

TDP also picked up the battle and yesterday staged a dharna  before Raj Bhavan protesting govenor’s inaction on the resignation controversy of TDP member who is now in TRS .  This forced Talasani to address media conference to clarify on the status of his resignation.  He also said the was ready to face by-election.

Then who is lying, Talasani or Speaker’s office? Why is it that the speaker not accepting the resignation? How come a constitutional authority misleads Congress when it sought information under RTI? Let us see how things will unfold in the next couple of days.

Jagan to join Rahul to defeat Land Bill

0

YS Jaganmohan Reddy led YSR Congress will join hands with  Congress party in opposing and defeating  the Land Acquisition Bill in parliament.

The Parliament monsoon session is commencing from July 21, and it is going to be crucial one for both BJP and Telugu Desam party. The YSRC parliamentary board has asked its members to vote against the Land bill in Parliament. This brings YSRC closer to the Congress which is campaigning for the defeat of the Land Bill-2015.

This is for the first time, Congress and YSR Congress, which TDP president Chandrababu Naidu used to call “mother Congress and child Congress”, coming closer.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has given a call to all opposition parties in  parliament to defeat the bill which is going to amend the existing land acquisition act brought about by UPA government.  All non-NDA parties are opposing the bill and are expected to join hands to defeat the bill. It is really testing time for Modi  led NDA government, whose numbers fall short of majority in Rajya Sabha.

Even though the Bill will have no problem in getting the nod of Lok Sabha, it is certain to pave the way for unity of opposition parties. On record, the YSR Congress has nine members in Lok Sabha, one is from Telangana and eight from Andhra Pradesh. Of the eight, MPs  SPY Reddy and Kothapalli Gita have switched sides and they may vote in favor of bill.

“We strongly oppose the Land Acquisition Bill which allows the acquisition of multi crop lands without incorporating the necessary buffers like social impact assessment and consent of the farmers,” Party MP and floor leader in Lok Sabha Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy told reporters after the Parliamentary Party meeting held under the chairmanship of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. YSRCPP met  to discuss the strategy to be adopted in the monsoon session beginning July 21. Many issues such as special status to Andhra Pradesh, high level probe into cash-for-vote scam, expediting the construction of Polavaram project, implementation of other provisions in the AP reorganization Act will ensure that YSRC and Congress are in the page during the session.

Is Vijayashanti set to comeback to TRS?

0

Will Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) bring back all its former  leaders, including Vijayashanti, to its fold.

According to media reports, after poaching on Congress and TDP , TRS is now ready to condone and accept its former leaders such as Vijayashanti, Vijayaramarao, K Chandrasekhar etc.

Interestingly,  T Jayaprakash Reddy, who is known for his virulent attacks on KCR and his family, also is not averse to rejoin the party, the reports said. All these  leaders left TRS following their differences with  party president K Chandrasekhar Rao some time back.

Vijaya Shanti left the party before  2014 election after she fell from the grace of  KCR. She joined Congress before the elections and contested from Medak Assembly Constituency.

She, however, lost to TRS’ Madhava Reddy Gari Padma.  Once super star in Telugu Movies, Vijayashanti made her debut in to politics by joining BJP in 1998. She was made chief of woman’s wing of united Andhra Pradesh. She was even named  party candidate against the Sonia Gandhi when the latter was planning to contest from Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency .

Later, she quit BJP and floated a  Telangana outfit Talli Telangana, when the T-movement was at its peak.  Later, KCR managed her to merge the party with  TRS. The party fielded her from Medak Lok Sabha constituency and she won .

Having no role in Congress and marginalized by  new generation leaders, Vijayashanti is said to be thinking of returning back to TRS. Media reports say she is in touch with Irrigation minister T Harish Rao.

Those who are thinking on the similar lines, according media reports, are former minister Dr Vijayaramarao (Warangal), Duggira Srinivasa Rao (palakurthi), A Chandrasekhar (Vikarabad) and A Arvind Reddy( Machiryal).

Congress Ups the Ante Against KCR: Rahul Effect

0

Congress upped the ante against chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday morning.

The Telangana unit of grand old party of India grabbed the opportunity thrown up the strike of the municipal sanitary workers to prove that it is not in slumber but alive and kicking.

The top brass, including the K Jana Reddy, the opposition leader in T-Assembly, today gathered leading a huge mass of party workers and muncipal workers, and staged a dharn in front of Telangana secretariat.  TPCC president N Uttamkumar Reddy, working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarkha, Oppostion leaders K Jana Reddy (Assembly) Md Ali Shabbir (Counccil) V Hanumantha Rao (MP), Danam Nagender (GHMC area Congress president), Ponnala Lakshmaiah ( former PCC president) etc participated in the Dharna.

This is said to be the result of the Rahul effect on the party. All these leaders, two days ago met party vice president Rahul Gandhi and discussed the strategy to strengthen the party in the region to make it fit to face the 2019 election. Rahul is said to have asked them to prove their mettle or step down.

Today, every leader in dharna, defying their age and position, sat on the road and chanted slogans. The administrative district of  Hyderabad, ie Secretaiat, reverberated with the slogans “KCR down down” and ” Down with KCR’s dictatorship” and  “Justice to municipal workers”.

There has been criticism against Jana Reddy that he was not upto mark in  berating the ruling party in the Assembly. There was even talk that Jana, who is above 70, should be replaced by a relatively younger leader in sync with times. Similarly, there has been talk about leaders such as Danam Nagener that they are planning to switch sides. The new generation leaders such as Uttam and Mallu are being seen as inexperienced. In today’s dharna these leaders displayed their skills of street-smart politics to deny the charges against them.

Jana Reddy and VH wanted to convey that they were not weighed down by the age and still could lead the party. The younger generation jostled to demonstrate that they had come of age and ready to take on mighty KCR.

V Hanumantha Rao said it was inhuman on the part of chief minister KCR to ignore the people who were responsible for the well being of our cities and towns. ” If you want Swachh Hyderaa or Telangana, it is incumbent upon you take the municipal workers on board by increasing their wages,” he said.

PCC president Uttam is of the opinion that KCR was becoming undemocratic and was growing intolerant of legitimate demands agitations.

After the dharna, the leaders have taken in custody by the police and were shifted to Nampally and Gandhi Nagar police stations.

History repeats in Telangana: State bandh tomorrow

0

The separate Telangana state is observing first state-wide bandh on Friday in support of the striking municipal health workers. It is for the first time that  chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who used bandhs and dharnas as a tool to mobilize people to achieve statehood to the region in the past  10 years. He lent legitimacy to bandhs in politics. Not a day passed without either a dhana or bandh being obsered somewhere by some organization in the state during emotive days of T-agitation. His followers were hit by police lathis and faced arrests. Now the same is happening even after the achievement of statehood, albeit in reverse order. TRS is now at the helm of affairs unleashing the police force to suppress the movement of municipal  sanitary workers. Incidentally, the ruling party was the first political outfit to call for a bandh in Mahabubnagar district last week in support of Palamuru irrigation project.

These workers have been on strike for two weeks demanding a hike in the salaries.

The bandh call is given by all Left parties in the state protesting the police highhandedness on the leaders of these parties yesterday.

T-Police attacked the protest camp and dispersed the workers, and  arrested  the senior leaders. Among those arrested were Tammineni Virabhadram (CPM), Chada Venkata Reddy (CPI) T Venkataramaiah, S Venkateswarlu (New Democracy),Janaki Ramulu(RSP), B Surender Reddy (Forward Block), Murahari (SUCI), Bhutam Veeranna (CPIML), Md Gouse (MCPIU), women activist Asha Latha and Pasya Padma.

Thursday state Congress expressed solidarity with Left Parties and striking employees. Telangana PCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy, in a statement, urged the people to support the bandh. “Instead of addressing the issues of municipal employees, the TRS government has unleashed the repression against the hapless employees. It is unfortunate that government is using the police to silience the voice of employees,” Uttam said.

Party working president Bhatti Vikramarkah said the demands of municipal workers were genuine and should be conceded to immediately.

“The chief minister who speaks of poor day in and day out is behaving dictatorially when the really poor confronted him,” Bhatti said.

Similarly, BJP also extended support to the bandh call.

Threat to YSR Legacy in TS: Jagan’s Intriguing Silence

0

In Telangana, politics always makes strange bedfellows. The enemies forget their past and embrace, and the very next moment brandish the swords to cut throats. This is how politics flourished in the region and going to flourish in future as well. Otherwise, YSR Congress can’t be expected of maintaining deafening silence even though chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is destroying  the traces of YS Rajasekhar Reddy from the soil of Telangana.

A leader, who never fails to refer to the name of Maha Neta (this is how YS Jaganmohan Reddy addresses his father) has been silent in Telangana on the annihilation of YSR’s projects. Why is it that Jaganmohan Reddy, who wants to build his political empire on the legacy of his father, is winking at the acts of destruction of YSR legacy? Is it just because, he wants to take help of chief minister Chandrasekhar Rao, in weakening TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu. His silence lends credence to the talk that Jagan is in league with KCR.

As Jagan is silent, Congress is owning up YS Rajasekhar Reddy in the new state to derive political advantage.

1. Neither Jagan nor his sister Sharmila in her tour in Telangana last month asked if there was need to abandon the Pranahita-Chevella project,  which was the dream-project of YS Rajasekhar Reddy. YRS laid foundation for the project in 2008 and works have been taken up spending thousands of crores of taxpayers money.

It is the Congress which alleged that KCR was obliterating the YSR legacy.  They charged that  KCR had abandoned the project just because it had been initiated by Rajasekhar Reddy.

2. Entire Mahabubnagar district is up against KCR government for setting aside four irrigation projects, Nettempadu, Kalwakurthi, Koilsagar and Bhima in favor of a new project Palamuru-Raga Reddy lift irrigaton project. Congress sounded war bugle against ignoring the project which are in the final stages of completion. According to G Chinna Reddy (MLA Vanaparthi), DK Aruna (MLA, Gadwala), Bhatti Vikramaraka (TPCC working president) a meager allocation of Rs 500 cr – Rs 600 cr was enough to complete these projects.

“If completed, these projects would helpirrigate 8 lakh acres in the district,” Bhatti told Telugu360.com. A meeting of Congress leaders held  two days ago at DK Aruna’s residence had decided that Congress leaders visit these projects on July 24 and July 25 to study their status and place facts before the people, Bhatti said.

However, from the YSR Congress side, except the lone MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy(Khammam), no other leader reacted against  the abandonment of Pranahita-Chevella project in Telangana which people of Adilabad fear would deny water to their district. While the party president Jagan is not keen to  rub KCR on wrong side, as a party, YSRC also failed to take a view on the KCR’s decision. Jagan made a feeble voice only once against the taking up of Palamuru-Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Project some time back with out referring the four project ignored by TRS government.

Jagan’s inaction on the projects is being attributed to  the purported political understanding he has with KCR. Since Jagan sees little future for his party in Telangana, he seems to have settled for an undeclared alliance with KCR, who is hell bent on driving  away Naidu from Hyderabad.

Strangeness of these political games is that KCR and Naidu were friends in  2009 elections and the fell apart after the drubbing at elections. KCR hated YSR to the bone. As long as YSR was in power, KCR did not dare talk Telangana. Later , Jagan openly opposed Telangana. Now, KCR and Jagan  are not enemies, if not friends.

Congress to go it alone in GHMC poll

0

The Congress vice-president held separate discussion with TSPCC president N Uttamkumar Reddy and working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarkha and APCC president N Raghuvira Reddy .

In Anantapuramu district, besides interacting with farmers who are in distress, Rahul will lead a padayatra to express solidarity with the farmers of the district, APCC president N Raghuvira  Reddy said.

Rahul had undertaken padayatra in  Nirmal of Adilabad district  on May 25 to express solidarity with the kin of those farmers, who committed suicide in the new state in the past one year.

In his August visit to Hyderabad the Congress vice president will sit in  dharna to pressure on the TRS government to address problems being faced by people of the state.

He said to have advised the AP and TS Congress leaders  to mobilize party machinery for agitations on the failures of their respective State governments in past one year.
Telangana PCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy, party State working president Bhatti Vikramarka and APCC chief N Raghuveera Reddy, who were in the national capital on Wednesday, called on AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh first and later party vice president Rahul Gandhi.

“The AICC vice president is keen on reviving the party in the TS. He asked us to formulate an action plan as to how to undertake agitations on issues concerning people in the State,” TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy said.

Later, while addressing mediapersons in Delhi, APCC chief N Raghuveera Reddy said Rahul would be undertaking padayatra from Obula Devara Cheruvu  to Kondakamarla in Anantapur district on July 24.

He further disclosed that the AICC vice president would interact with farmers, weavers, agricultural labourers and members of women self-help groups during his padayatra to have first hand knowledge of their problems.

Pawan Tweets venom on Congress

0

Hiding in safe haven Twitter, Janasena president and actor  Pawan Kalyan this time  flung stones on Congress. He chastised Congress that it was not concentrating on launching a  fight against BJP for bestowing special state category status on Andhra Pradesh. Attacking sarcastically, Pawan grilled Congress , a party that lost power and  bit dust in the 2014 elections every where, to derive satisfaction after he got a dressing down from TDP, TRS, CPI etc. for his inability to wage “real fight” for these rights.

He was yet to answer many questions from these parties. While appreciating his concern at denial of special status to Andhra Pradesh by Modi government, CPI AP secretary Ramakrishna asked him to join them and make street the battle ground not the Twitter to fight for the legitimate rights of Andhra Pradesh.

Everybody thought after the his press conference a week back, Pawan would declare war against the NDA regime led by PM Narendra Modi and march  his army of fans to the streets to stage dharnas before central government offices and lead them to Delhi for a rally near Jantar Mantar. But, he beat a hasty retreat to  Twitter, where attacking and flinging stones at other is risk-free.

In stead of introspecting at his own  failure to take on  Modi’s regime and belated reaction on the NDAs  denial of special status, Pawan is resorting to blaming others. Pawan thinks he is too wise a politician in Telugu lands and wants derive two-way advantage as a champion of special status to Andhra Pradesh and basking in the bonhomie with powers that be by refraining to question  PM  Modi and CM Chandrababu Naidu  on the same question.

This is unpolitical and self-defeating politics.

Pawan thinks Congress was doing overkill in the case of Lalit Modi and expects same fervor on the issue of special to Andhra Pradesh of five crore people as well.

At the same time, to blunt the possible attack from the Congress, he diplomatically  sprinkled praises  also on the party, in which his brother Chiranjeevi is a prominent member.

Following are the tweets of Twitter-fighter Pawan Kalyan

“…merely for ‘ONE LALIT MODI’Issue than to fight for their Promise to deliver SPECIAL STATUS to ‘FiFTY MILLION SEEMANDHRAS.’ Hail Congress!”

“I love Congress! I adore Congress! for their Zeal, for their Fervour, for their Passion to take on BJP Govt…”

When is the time ripe for Pawan to hit streets not only for special status, but also for more funds and projects from government of India? He should get a list of projects pending in government of India and decide his course of action.
