Telangana records 15 new corona positive cases today!

Contrary to the claims of the Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao that coronavirus situation is under control in the state and that Telangana will become a ‘corona-free state’ by April 7, Telangana state continues to witness higher cases and deaths on account of corona.

Telangana has recorded 15 new positive cases on Tuesday, the highest in a single day so far, according to an official release issued by Telangana health minister Etela Rajender.

With this, the number of positive cases in Telangana remain at 77.

Yesterday, 13 corona positive patients were discharged after their tests tested negative after undergoing treatment at government hospitals.

When government was happy at the number of cases reducing due to discharge of 13 patients, the adding of new 15 positive cases on Tuesday brought the situation back to square one.

The Telangana government on Monday confirmed six corona deaths.

AP CM must no longer neglect COVID-19 threat: CPI

0

In view of lack of effective testing, it’s not clear the extent of harm that Coronavirus has caused in AP. CPI State Secretary Ramakrishna says that the virus infection is spreading very fast and very silently in the state. The government has not taken required preventive measures in the beginning of the contagion. Ramakrishna appealed to the AP CM to give a humanistic response at least now. The people are in the face of a grave danger in view of the raging epidemic.

The CPI leader asked CM Jagan to talk immediately to Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao to help rescue the Andhra migrant workers who are stuck in the lockdown restrictions in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana. The problems of migrant labourers are multiplying because of the government’s indifference. The CPI had expressed concern over the lack of adequate facilities being made for the homeless workers. They have lost work and are on the roadsides unable to find help.

Central govt permits CCMB to conduct corona tests

0

As the number of corona cases continues to rise in India, the central government on Monday gave its green signal to the Centre of Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) allowing the premier institute to conduct screening of suspected coronavirus cases at its facility in Hyderabad.

The central government’s nod to CCMB comes after Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao suggested to Prime Minister Narendra Modi that CCMB can be used for testing of samples for COVID-19 cases. He told the PM in a video-conference that CCMB has a capacity to test 1,000 blood samples at one go and that the center can be used not just for people of Telangana but for other states too.

Recently, the central government permitted Apollo Health and Lifestyle Limited in Secunderabad, Dr Remedies Labs Private Limited, Vimta Labs Ltd, Vijaya Diagnostic Centre and Laboratory Services of Apollo Hospitals to conduct corona tests. Any individual who suspects corona infection or has been screened with telling symptoms such as respiratory illness and dry cough with fever, can get tests done at any of these laboratories in the city.

AP govt on tenterhooks, probes Delhi corona angle

The state government seems to be on tenterhooks after several people from various parts of Andhra Pradesh who went to New Delhi to attend the annual Ijtema, an Islamic evangelical event at Nizamuddin mosque in the capital city, were tested positive for corona virus.

On Monday, the number of people infected with coronavirus in Andhra Pradesh rose to 25, with two fresh cases reported in the state.

At least 10 people who returned to various parts of Andhra Pradesh from New Delhi in different trains after attending the Islamic evangelical event of Ijtema were tested positive for coronavirus. The state administration now seems to be worried how many more came in contact with these 10 individuals who are from Guntur, Prakasam, West Godavari, East Godavari, Vizianagaram and Viskhapatnam.

Guntur had been put on a high alert after a 52-year-old man who attended the religious meeting at the Nizamuddin Mosque, along with 20 others for two-and-a-half days. He travelled from Delhi to Vijayawada by the Duronto Express and went home by car to Guntur on March 19. He visited the hospital in Vijayawada on March 23 and his blood sample sent for examination tested positive. Similarly, a 60-year-old man from Prakasam who attended the event in New Delhi and returned to Chirala was tested positive. He visited a mosque in Nawabpeta and also stayed with his son and daughter in law in Indira Nagar residence in Chirala. The state administration stated that all event participants and their close contacts will be placed under mandatory quarantine for 14 days.

In Karimnagar too, a group of 10 Indonesians who attended the religious event at Nizamuddin mosque were tested positive for corona virus following which the Telangana government had put the district on high alert. According to reports, the Indonesians had travelled in coach number S9 of the AP Sampark Kranti Express (Train no: 12708), boarding it at Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station in Delhi on March 13 and alighting at Ramagundam in Telangana on March 14, before travelling to Karimnagar by road. The Indonesians were accompanied by three Indians and stayed for two days at a mosque near the Karimnagar Collectorate, before the first patient reported symptoms of coronavirus. Later, all the 10 Indonesians stayed for two days in Karimnagar and visited at least 3 mosques. A 23-year-old Telangana man who was in contact with the group of Indonesians too was tested positive for the corona virus. The three areas which were visited by the Indonesian group were put on high alert by the Telangana government. Now, both the governments are investigating how many people came in contact with those who contracted corona virus and returned to both the two states.

Will COVID-19 derail the luxury vehicle market?

0

The pan India lockdown and the current global situation, it’s only a few sectors in the e-commerce segment which have witnessed an upsurge in their sales.

IANSlife spoke to Jatin Ahuja, Founder and Managing Director, Big Boy Toyz, to find out if one can get a heads up on the extent of the impact on sales in the luxury vehicle segment.

“Currently the entire luxury industry as a whole is witnessing a standstill due to the state and nationwide lockdown. The luxury auto market will witness a major shift in the consumer attitude wherein they will be more open to the concept of purchasing luxury vehicles online. Even the players in the auto industry will understand the importance of digitalisation in the future,” says Ahuja.

With the pulse on the market and understanding that high end customers are always looking for customisation and personalisation, Ajuja states, “The Influx of social media marketing has led to a digital revolution where almost every industry fighting to gain attention from its targeted audience. From apparel to electronics, from telecom to travel, and from food and beverages to entertainment, every industry is finding ways to tap the niche market which is not only huge but also effectively priced. So, its obvious for the automobile industry has to enter the world of social media to be able to connect with the digitally awakened generation.”

So how does he think that this reality or virtual reality as it were will evolve in the near future? “This has led the companies to understanding the importance of virtual consumer experiential marketing. Thus, with virtual consumer experiential marketing becoming an important aspect for companies, e-commerce linked with Social Media cites like Instagram will also help in tapping into consumers who are way more active in social networking handles.”

Before the advent of social media, vehicle dealers depended on costly and ostentatious TV advertisements, print adverts to gain popularity for their brands. However, now with digitalisation, social media is a basic and cost effective advertising tool in the hands of the automobile industry. “What’s more, it additionally deciphers that better the vehicle brand does its social media advertising, the higher its odds are of beating the competition. Any car dealer or manufacturer who isn’t using this platform into their business is doing noteworthy harm to their business’ targets,” feels the veteran.

With a prolonged lockdown, businesses and industries are set to be highly impacted, the world economy too is is predicted to take a beating. Keeping these variables in mind, big spends on luxury vehicles might not be in keeping with the mood of the customer.

“While talking about the auto industry it is important to understand that vehicles are high-contribution and high-speculation items, so one must give various touch points to their customers. This realisation itself will drive a lot of companies to finally take the leap of faith and venture into the e-commerce industry in the months to come post COVID-19. Many of the companies who think that physical stores / showrooms are the only future for business sustenance will not last much longer. However, with the relentless support of the e-commerce sector, both companies/businesses and consumers have understood that e-commerce sector will flourish manifold along with physical stores and showrooms. With advanced showcasing strategies readily available, car dealers and manufacturers will have better chances to win their prospects’ attention,” asserts Ahuja.

The car expert feels that, “many of the major companies (who still believed in the traditional way of functioning) are thinking it would have been best to have resorted to digitalisation. However, the few companies who have foreseen such situations, and had decided to venture into the e-commerce space in order to tap into the untapped consumer base, are benefitting currently.”

‘Kamal Haasan home quarantine notice, needling by govt’

0

Hours after the ‘home quarantine’ notice was stuck outside the actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan’s old residence, the Greater Chennai Corporation removed the same saying it was done by mistake.

However, party spokesperson is of the view that it is nothing but needling by the state government.

The Corporation has been sticking such notices outside the residences of all those who have returned from foreign countries where Coronavirus had spread.

“Kamal Haasan has been in India since January this year. He has not travelled abroad. The building is now the party office of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM). There was security. Without making any enquiries with the security, the officials had stuck the home quarantine notice at night and gone,” Murali Appas, spokesperson of the party told IANS.

According to him, should not the officials before sticking the notice enquire with the household about the condition of the person who had returned from overseas and also brief them about the precautions to be taken?

He also said, the data as to the persons who had come from overseas should have the correct name of the traveller and not the name of others in the household.

“With Kamal Haasan being within India, how can the Chennai Corporation mention his name in the ‘home quarantine’ notice that was stuck outside the building that was once his residence,” Appas wondered.

According to him, it is nothing but needling by the local government. Recently he was summoned by the police and questioned for several hours in connection with the accident that happened at the Indian movie shooting spot.

Couple of days back Kamal Haasan in a tweet said with the help of doctors in his party Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) he is willing to convert the building that was once his residence into a temporary hospital to treat the coronavirus patients.

He also said he is ready to do this once the government gives the permission.

Meanwhile in a statement Kamal Haasan said he has not been living in that building for the past few years and the party office has been functioning from there.

“So, the news that I have been quarantined is not true. As a precautionary measure, I have undertaken social distancing as I requested the public too,” Kamal Haasan said.

“My entire family has self-isolated. Mum (actress Sarika) is in Mumbai as well but in another apartment, Dad (Kamal Haasan) and Akshara (sister) are in Chennai but in separate houses. All of us had different travelling schedules and it didn’t make sense for us to isolate together. That’s the decision I feel people should make,” Shruti Haasan, the elder daughter of Kamal Haasan had told Mumbai Mirror earlier.

Confusion on AP foreign returnees: Corona testing time

The Central government has officially given records of 3,746 foreign returnees staying in Andhra Pradesh. Many of them are not under the surveillance of the State government. CM Jagan has announced that there are nearly 28,000 foreign returnees in the state. Thanks to volunteers, all the information about the returnees is available. But still, there are concerns over untraceable foreign returnees in many parts. Especially, the missing of several returnees has alarmed the officials. A frantic search is launched but no immediate results there.

Meanwhile, Chandrababu Naidu has raised doubts on the claims of the government on tracing of returnees. A few days ago, the number of returnees was at around 15,000 but suddenly, the total has gone up to 28,000. On the other hand, the Centre is giving official details of 3,746 returnees.

As of now, only those returnees who got fever, cough and other symptoms, are reporting themselves to quarantine hospitals. Those not having such symptoms are not being kept under surveillance. Lots of unanswered questions on whether officials are placing required vigil on foreign returnees who are now potential carriers of the dreaded coronavirus.

HiTech city areas under red zone lockdown: Corona effect

0

The IT industry in Hyderabad is badly shaken after the COVID-19 threat. Regular foreign visits by software professionals have come as a big risk now. In the past three to four weeks, lots of IT professionals went abroad and returned. Most of such returnees are still untraceable. Amid this, +ve cases are being reported in Hyderabad, mostly in Gachibowli, Chandanagar, Kokapet and other places. This has put the KCR government on high alert. It classified the areas as red zones where infected persons are residing. Far higher restrictions are imposed to fight coronavirus disease here.

The general restrictions will be in force as part of Modi’s 21-day lockdown. In addition, the government is not allowing residents in red zone areas to come out of their homes even for buying groceries and vegetables. Everything will be supplied to their doorsteps. The officials have made workers available. Entry and exit is banned for both residents and their visitors. The streets are closed with the police keeping guard there.

Corona cases rising in India, total reaches 863

0

As the testing has increased across the country, more positive cases are getting reported. This has raised concerns on the untraceable foreign returnees and their likelihood of spreading the virus in nook and corner of the country.

In Kerala, which has many links with the Gulf countries, 39 new cases are reported in just one day. The total positive cases in Kerala has gone up to 176 now. The return of Kerala NRIs staying in Gulf countries in large numbers have complicated the situation in Kerala.

A new case tested +ve in Kurnool. Following this, the government tightened control on the border and strictly prohibiting people from crossing into AP without facing quarantine.

Corona tally in Telangana 59. Govt can handle even 60,000 corona cases, says KCR

As the number of Covid-19 cases in Telangana rose to 59 with 10 fresh cases reported in single day on Friday, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao said the state medical administration is fully equipped to handle even 60,000 cases of corona although such a situation will not arise in Telangana.

Addressing a press conference, Chandrasekhara Rao said most of the positive cases reported in Telangana had travel history to various foreign countries and appealed to the people to cooperate with the government’s complete lockdown regulation to effectively contain the spread of the virus in the state. “Social distancing is the only potent weapon we have to fight this war against corona virus. We have all the medical facilities to deal with the current situation. However, social distancing is the best way to fight the virus,” he said. Despite the complete lockdown and total curfew from 7 pm to 6 30 am, Telangana has reported 10 positive cases of corona. Imagine the situation without these measures. It will be terrifying to even think,” the Chief Minister said while appealing to the people to stay indoors. “With a folded hands, I request the people of Telangana as the son of Telangana to remain where you are and don’t make any attempt to cross borders.”

In the light of students and IT employees making attempts to cross interstate borders, the Chief Minister asked the people to desist from leaving the state in their own interests and in the interests of other states. He appealed to the hostel managements in Hyderabad not to forcibly evacuate the inmates and warned that stern action would be taken against the managements of hostels if they fail to continue to provide accommodation to the hostellers. Recently, thousands of students and IT employees were asked to leave the hostels in light of the Covid-19 outbreak forcing them to leave the city to their native places in Andhra Pradesh. This created tension between the students/IT employees and the Andhra Pradesh police who barred them from entering into the AP borders.

He said the state government will allow poultry vehicles despite the complete lockdown and said it was a myth that consuming chicken leads to transmission of corona. “This is a stupid belief. As a matter of fact, people should consume eggs and chicken which has rich protein content required to boost immune systems. There is a false propaganda that chicken causes corona. We should not believe such propaganda,” he said. The poultry industry in Telangana has been severely hit amid rumours that coronavirus is transmitted through consumption of chicken, the prices of which have fallen considerably as a result. “Also fruits such as oranges, sweet lime and pomegranates are known to build immune systems. These are vitamin-packed fruits. The produce of these fruits in Telangana will not be exported for the benefit of Telangana people. High doses of Vitamin C will be good in these days of coronavirus,” he advised.

He said farmers, who sell their crops through established supply chains like market yards to sell their produce, should avoid doing so as the government has closed all markets after declaring complete lockdown to restrict the spread of the deadly coronavirus. Markets are essential activities for the economic livelihood of farmers and for food access for millions of people. The closure of markets has the potential to bankrupt farmers and force people to go without food. However, the CM assured that the government will buy their produce at their doorstep. The chief minister appealed to the farmers to keep their pass books and bank account details ready at the time of selling their produce directly to the government. “The marketyards are closed, therefore kindly do not go there to sell your produce. But be assured that the government will support the farming community in every which way. The government will stand behind the farming community in every possible manner. All arrangements are in place, so the farmers need not worry,” he assured.

Further, he said that the state government will ensure 24 hour power supply to the farmers and water supply from the Sri Ram Sagar Project and Jurala for irrigation till April 10. “Every single acre in Telangana will get water,” he assured. He directed the government power supply agencies to ensure that power is supplied 24 hours to the farmers without fail.

The state government has the capacity to treat 60,000 positive cases of corona. “We have kept 1,400 Intensive Care Unit beds ready to tackle any eventuality in the State. We are also roping in 11,000 healthcare professionals including the retired doctors and fresh medical graduates in our efforts to fight this monstrous virus. We have also made arrangements to create facilities at isolation centres and quarantine facilities to handle as many as 11,000 people suspected to have contracted the virus,” he said. However, all these efforts will be in vain if people fail to cooperate with the government’s effort by violating the lockdown. “I repeat social distancing is the only weapon to fight the virus,” he appealed.

The dreaded virus, the Chief Minister, said has affected every part of the globe. “America, the most powerful nation with top class medical facilities, is struggling in its fight against the virus. The country reported the highest ever number of infections recorded by any nation in a single day. We can imagine how the virus is crippling the world.”

0

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Friday disclosed he has tested positive for coronavirus but will continue to discharge his duties from self-isolation.

He becomes the second high-profile British leader to test positive for coronavirus in recent days after Prince Charles, the heir to the the throne. Some ministers in the Johnson government and MPs have also tested positive for Covid-19.

“I’ve developed mild symptoms of the coronavirus, that’s a temperature and a persistent cough,” Johnson said in a video posted on his Twitter account.

“On the advice of the chief medical officer, I have taken a test and that has come out positive.

“I’m working from home and self-isolating. That’s entirely the right thing to do.

As the number of Covid-19 cases in Telangana rose to 47 with two more fresh cases reported on Friday, State Health Minister Etela Rajender said most of positive cases had travel history to various foreign countries while adding that the government will intensify its efforts to track and screen the foreign returnees staying in the city for corona virus.

The health minister who held a meeting with medical college representatives on Friday said “All of the cases reported in Telangana involved people who had come to the state from elsewhere, mostly from London, US, Dubai, Germany, Scotland, Netherlands. Fortunately, India is not much affected by coronavirus unlike most other countries, but we should not relax in our efforts to contain the virus.”

Stating that Telangana government had readied 10,000 beds for the corona positive cases, he said there had been no case of local people infected with corona virus. He asked the people to strictly follow the complete lockdown regulations and stay indoors which will strengthen the government’s efforts to curtail the spread of the virus.

There are at least 20,000 foreign returnees who are undergoing home quarantine in Telangana. Hyderabad alone is home to more than 10,000 foreign returnees. Several GHMC teams have been set up in the city to trace the foreign returnees and directed them to mandatorily follow the 14-day home quarantine protocol. Further, in a bid to ensure that foreign returnees in Telangana do not violate the quarantine period, the government officials have already started seizing their passports.

Govt restricts sale of wonder drug ‘hydroxychloroquine’

0

The Centre has restricted sale and distribution of “hydroxychloroquine” declaring it as an essential drug to treat the COVID-19 patients and meet the requirements of emergency arising due to the pandemic.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday made the announcement making it clear that the order “shall come into force on the date of its publication in the official Gazette”.

In the order, the government declared that the Central government is “satisfied that the drug hydroxychloroquine is essential to meet the requirements of emergency arising due to pandemic COVID-19 and in the public interest, it is necessary and expedient to regulate and restrict the sale and distribution of the drug ‘hydroxychloroquine’ and preparation based thereon for preventing their misuse”.

“Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 26B of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 (23 of 1940), the Central government hereby directs that sale by retail of any preparation containing the drug Hydroxychloroquine shall be in accordance with the conditions for sale of drugs specified in Schedule H1 to the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945.”

The order came at a time when the novel coronavirus claimed 16 lives and infected over 600 people across India.

The announcement regarding ban of sale and distribution of the drug was made by the government earlier but it issued an official Gazette notification on Thursday signalling that hydroxychloroquine — an anti-Malaria drug — will work as a medicine for treating coronavirus infected patients as well.

Recently, the national task force for COVID-19 constituted by Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) has recommended hydroxy-chloroquine as a preventive medication.
