AP to challenge Telangana orders in court: Covid

1

In the face of rising criticism, the YCP Government has decided to challenge the KCR regime’s orders not to allow AP Covid patients to come to Hyderabad. AP CM’s Advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy has said that they will fight a legal battle so as to ensure justice to the AP patients.

Sajjala further said that the AP patients were going for better treatment to Chennai and Bangalore also but there were no problems from those State Governments. The problems were arising only on the border with Telangana. It was unfortunate the neighbouring State was keen to safeguard the interests of only its patients.

Raising the Reorganisation issues, Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy deplored that the present problems were coming up in AP because of improper separation of the Telugu States. All those areas without any infrastructure were given to Andhra Pradesh while those with better and advanced facilities were given to Telangana.

Sajjala also blamed Chandrababu Naidu for the non-construction of super specialty hospitals in AP during the first five years of the State. If he had done that, the AP patients would have faced the present troubles.

KCR Govt accused of violating HC orders

1

The High Court of Telangana has taken a serious view of the continuing stopping of the ambulances coming from Andhra Pradesh on the inter-state borders. This would amount to contempt of the court on the part of the TRS Government. A retired officer has filed a contempt case in the court against the Telangana regime.

The petitioner’s advocate contended that though the High Court has issued clear orders not to stop AP ambulances, the Telangana Government has issued orders once again to restrict the ambulances. As a result, hundreds of ambulances are being stopped on the border, which is causing serious harm to the Covid patients.

In the beginning, the Telangana police sent back all the ambulances. But now, they are allowing only those patients who are having bed confirmation from the respective hospitals in Hyderabad. As a result, many patients are finding it difficult to get the confirmations in advance.

CM KCR is being criticised now for not honouring the AP Reorganisation promises. Hyderabad remains the joint capital till 2024 and any restrictions on the AP people would be illegal and unlawful.

TTD funds for Govt German hangars for Covid patients

2

The TTD has decided to release funds to the respective District Collectors to construct German hangars to give treatment to the Covid patients in the State. A decision has been taken that Rs. 3.52 Cr would be released initially for this purpose. This was in tune with the decision of Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy to go for German hangars.

As per the initial figures, the District Collectors have been asked to use the TTD funds to construct four hangars in Visakhapatnam district, 2 each in Prakasam and Kurnool, 3 each in Krishna, Anantapur, Guntur and Kakinada. Two more hangars would be built in other parts of the State where there would be a requirement.

The Government says that in each German hangar shed, there would be a facility to provide 30 oxygen beds. Already one such shed was built at the SV Padmavati Hospital.

There has been a big controversy over diverting the TTD funds. BJP leader Subramania Swamy has been fighting to remove the Government control over the TTD funds. As such, the TTD has decided to provide funds directly to the District Collectors so as to avoid any controversy.

YCP-TDP mutual cases continue over N440K

3

The Jaganmohan Reddy Government is not ready to take light of the comments made by Chandrababu Naidu about the origin and spread of the N440K variant. The Kurnool police made much ado but had to back out from giving notice to Naidu at the last minute a few days ago. Later, another similar case was filed in Guntur town against the TDP chief.

In a counter to that, the TDP leaders once again made a complaint against YCP Minister Seediri Appala Raju in the Arundelpet police station. As such, the YCP and the TDP leaders were filing counter cases against each other. The police were filing FIRs upon receiving complaints against Naidu and other Opposition leaders. But, they were not doing the same when the TDP leaders were filing complaints against Appala Raju.

In Kurnool also, the TDP filed complaints against the Minister as a counter to the YCP cases against Naidu. The political game continued to take twists and turns. However, the ruling party was not able to do one thing that was very dear to it. That was to arrest Chandrababu.

The TDP leaders say all their party leaders from village to State levels have accepted their fate and they now became hardened so much that they wanted to take on the YCP regardless of the cases and arrests.

Deserted roads as lockdown begins in Telangana

Roads wore a deserted look in Hyderabad and the rest of Telangana on Wednesday morning as the 10-day lockdown began across the state to check the spread of Covid-19.

The busy markets in Hyderabad are under zero mobility as all the shops and business establishments downed shutters at 10 a.m.

People were seen rushing back homes after availing the four-hour relaxation from 6 a.m. to buy the essentials.

Police personnel were patrolling the streets to enforce the lockdown.

Wednesday being the first day of the lockdown, police were not strict in enforcing restrictions in the initial hours. This was done to give some time to people to return home. However, from Thursday police plan to take strict action against those found on roads after 10 a.m.

A senior police official said cases would be booked against violators under Disaster Management Act and their vehicles would be seized.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar who was supervising lockdown enforcement at historic Charminar said 180 checkposts were set up in the city to check the movement of vehicles. Senior officials were deployed to ensure strict adherence to lockdown norms.

“Lockdown is important to break the chain of infection. There is good awareness about this among people and they are extending cooperation with the police,” the police Commissioner said.

Cyberabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar and Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bahgwath were also in the field to monitor the lockdown enforcement in their commissionerate limits.

Elaborate arrangements were also made in 32 other districts in Telangana to enforce the 20-hour lockdown. Director General of Police M. Mahender Reddy directed all commissioners and superintendents of police to ensure strict enforcement of lockdown.

Earlier, roads were abuzz with traffic since early morning as people ventured out to buy essentials. Vegetable markets, grocery shops, meat shops and supermarkets were teeming with customers since 6 a.m.

Public transport services like the RTC bused and Metro trains were also operated from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.

In some places, garment shops also opened early in the morning to enable people to do shopping for Eid, which is to be celebrated Thursday or Friday.

The State Cabinet on Tuesday decided to impose state-wide lockdown for 10 days to contain the spread of Covid-19. Every day, there will be relaxation for general activities and needs of the people. Only for these four hours all the shops will be opened.

Pharmaceutical companies, companies manufacturing medical equipment, medical distributors, medical shops, all types of medical and health services, government and private hospitals and their staff have been exempted from lockdown.

Transportation on national highways will be allowed for movement of essential commodities. Petrol and diesel pumps would be open on the national highways.

Government offices would work with 33 per cent of the staff. Like during the lockdown last time, banks and ATMs would also work.

Only 40 members will be allowed for marriage with prior permission. For funeral rites, maximum of 20 persons will be allowed.

The government has ordered closure of cinema halls, swimming pools, clubs, gyms, amusement parks, and sports stadia.

The state government was initially reluctant to impose lockdown. While imposing night curfew on May 23, it had ruled out imposing partial or total lockdown, saying the measure would be of not much help in containing the surge.

Last week, the chief minister had also stated that such a move would bring the life to a standstill and would lead to total collapse of the economy.

However, the government finally decided to impose lockdown after the high court pulled it up for not taking strict measures to check the spread of Covid.

11 Covid patients die as oxygen supply delayed at Tirupati hospital

Tragedy struck the renowned Ruia Hospital in Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati on Monday as 11 Covid patients lost their lives due to an interruption in oxygen supply, Chittoor District Collector Harinarayan said.

The district authorities attributed the deaths to a five-minute delay in the arrival of an oxygen tanker at the hospital. However, with the oxygen supply restored immediately, a major tragedy was averted, the Collector said.

Around a thousand patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital. As the oxygen supply got affected all of a sudden, many patients began to choke. Doctors were seen attempting CPR procedures to revive the oxygen-starved patients, while kin of the patients used cardboard pieces to fan and revive them.

An inquiry has been initiated into the incident. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, who was apprised of the tragedy, has asked for a report.

No entry for AP Covid patients into Telangana

Both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have not gone for lockdown. This is despite over 26 other States having opted for this. They included Tamil Nadu. Covid patients from AP are right now going to Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore for better treatment at corporate hospitals.

But, all of a sudden, the KCR Government has taken a decision not to allow AP Covid patients to enter Telangana. As a result, the ambulances bringing patients from AP are being stopped and asked to return to AP. Because of lockdown in TN and Karnataka, the AP patients are already finding it difficult to reach hospitals there.

For various reasons, the Telangana Government is apprehensive about allowing AP patients to reach Hyderabad. There are already fears that the high contagious mutants are spreading all over.

Amid many uncertainties, Telangana has banned Covid patients coming from Andhra. Reports say that there might be more valid reasons for the latest decision of the TRS regime. Whatever, the AP people will face rough weather till the deadly second wave eases in the next one or two months.

2

YCP MPs Avinash Reddy and Vallabhaneni Balashowry have placed a unique demand before PM Modi during this Coronavirus crisis. They urged the Prime Minister to remove the 28 percent GST on the ambulances immediately in the country. This was necessary to make ambulances available to rescue the people from the epidemic.

The MPs have written a letter to Modi, saying that there was an urgent need to convene the GST Council to take proper steps to provide relief to the people. They told the PM that the Covid cases were on the rise in AP. The positivity rate rose to 28.7 percent in just the Kadapa district alone.

The YCP MPs expressed concern that there was a greater threat being posed in view of the rapidly spreading infections. The positivity rate in the Kadapa district alone is expected to rise to 54.53 percent by the end of this month. This indicated the rate at which the virus was spreading all over.
