Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone debut as Mr & Mrs

0

The hide and seek got over as Bollywood stars Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, after two days of wedding ceremonies in the far and dreamy Lake Como setting in Italy, unveiled their first look as a married couple to the public on Thursday, immensely pleasing their army of fans.

Both Deepika and Ranveer shared two images — one each from their four-hour-long ceremony according to Konkani traditions on Wednesday and a North Indian style nuptial on Thursday.

In one picture, the two are laughing away, sharing a jovial moment during the Konkani wedding, and in another photograph from the celebration on Thursday they are all ears for each other.

Deepika looked resplendent on both occasions, dressed in Sabyasachi Mukherjee ensembles rooted in tradition as she chose red and gold as her primary colours. For the North Indian style wedding, Deepika’s head was covered with an ornate dupatta with the words ‘Sada Saubhagyavati Bhavah’ embroidered on it, while Ranveer matched up in a colour co-ordinated sherwani.

Ranveer wore pristine white for the Konkani wedding, which marked the culmination of a six year-long love story that began on the sets of the 2013 film “Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela”.

Interestingly, Thursday marked the fifth anniversary of the film’s release.

In a matter of 10 minutes of sharing the first pictures at around 8 p.m. on Thursday India time on Instagram, they jointly garnered over 4 lakh ‘likes’ as social media users were pining for a glimpse into the very private celebrations.

The couple’s film fraternity friends Farah Khan, Katrina Kaif, Farhan Akhtar, Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, Hrithik Roshan and Parineeti Chopra were among several others to extend congratulatory messages.

Unlike most celebrity weddings which keep fans engrossed with social media updates, the ‘no pictures, no phones, no drones policy’ of the actors’ grand destination wedding left the media and fans yearn for a glimpse of the couple or the celebrations.

Amit, a cousin of Deepika, a daughter of badminton ace Prakash Padukone, said it has been a “magical week, steeped purely in love” for the family.

“Fairytale union of the two most kind, beautiful souls. Ranveer, welcome to the family! You’ve dethroned me as filmiest, but I’ll cope. Deepika, never seen you happier; you deserve no less,” Amit tweeted.

That, apart from some long, wide angle shots and some hazy videos from the wedding revelry, is all that people could get their eyes on.

The celebrations were as private as it could get. With a guest list of around 40, Deepika and Ranveer chose Northern Italy’s Lombardy region, a resort area known for its spectacular scenery as the backdrop for their wedding.

They were successful in hiding themselves from onlookers, using their umbrellas.

Mobile phones were not allowed outside people’s rooms and there were boats patrolling the lake for drones as part of the three-level security plan for the wedding.

Fondly called as DeepVeer by their fans, the star couple has also worked together in “Bajirao Mastani” and “Padmaavat” although they didn’t share screen space in the latter.

Before the two left for the wedding revelry to Italy last week, Deepika had a traditional puja at her Bengaluru residence while Ranveer had a ‘haldi’ ceremony at his Mumbai home.

Deepika and Ranveer exchanged rings on Monday evening in Italy. A more ‘desi’ touch to the celebrations came in with the ‘mehendi’ function on Tuesday afternoon, followed by a music-filled ‘sangeet’ the same evening.A

Singer Harshdeep Kaur, along with Sanjoy Das, Bobby Pathak and Firoz Khan, added a musical touch to the ceremony.

Poles apart from each other in personality, Deepika and Ranveer never confirmed their relationship until recently when they announced their wedding dates in October.

“We thank you for all the love you have showered upon us over the years and seek your blessings as we embark on this incredible journey of love, loyalty friendship and togetherness,” they said.

Over the years, Deepika has been a bit more reserved than Ranveer in expressing her love openly, but the “Band Baaja Baaraat” actor has been uninhibited.

The couple will have a reception each in Bengaluru and Mumbai on November 21 and 28 respectively. And on December 1, there will be a separate celebration with the film fraternity.

They have urged their guests to direct gifts in the form of a donation to Deepika’s The Live Love Laugh Foundation, which works towards spreading awareness on mental health.

After this wedding, all eyes are on Priyanka Chopra and her American singer beau Nick Jonas’ wedding, likely to happen next month.

Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone get married in Italy

0

Padukone on Wednesday tied the knot as per Konkani traditions in a dreamy Lake Como setting in Italy amidst a tight circle of family and friends, culminating a six year-long love story in a ‘happily ever after’.

The ceremony began at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, and ended around 1:30 p.m. as per local time in Italy, those in the know of developments told IANS.

Deepika wore a red and gold lehenga, and Ranveer was dressed in white, with most guests dressed in pastels, keeping with the subtle and classy vibe of the upscale wedding venue.

Classical singer Shubha Mudgal sang wedding songs at the ceremony in her powerful voice.

Much like the paparazzi, even celebrities in the Hindi film fraternity were left playing the guessing game about the details of the closely guarded nuptials.

“Such a stunning gorgeous and beautiful couple! Nazar utar lo! Deepika and Ranveer! Badhai ho! Love you both! Here’s to a lifetime of love and joy,” tweeted filmmaker Karan Johar, eliciting curiosity if he had seen their wedding picture already.

“I have not seen ya! I want to see just like the rest of the nation does,” he wrote.

The celebrations were as private as it could get. With a guest list of around 40, Deepika and Ranveer chose Northern Italy’s Lombardy region, a resort area known for its spectacular scenery, as the backdrop for their nuptials.

Only a few wide angle shots of the venue gave a hint of the elaborate set-up, decorated with the choicest of flowers.

The Konkani style wedding will be followed by a traditional Anand Karaj ceremony on Thursday.

Deepika, 32, daughter of badminton ace Prakash Padukone, is likely to wear a Sabyasachi ensemble for the Anand Karaj.

Fondly called as DeepVeer by their fans, the star couple have together worked in films like ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’, ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and ‘Padmaavat’.

There were only about 40 guests for the celebrations, but a no pictures policy imposed on them, left the couple’s fans pining to get a glimpse of the gala.

Mobile phones were not allowed outside people’s rooms, and there were boats patrolling the lake for drones as part of the three-level security plan for the wedding.

The two left for the wedding revelry to Italy last week.

Deepika and Ranveer exchanged rings on Monday evening, and a more ‘desi’ touch to the celebrations came in with the ‘mehendi’ function on Tuesday afternoon, followed by a music-filled ‘sangeet’ the same
evening.

For the mehendi, Deepika wore a Sabyasachi Mukherjee creation and the couple was colour co-ordinated. Singer Harshdeep Kaur, along with Sanjoy Das, Bobby Pathak and Firoz Khan performed at the ceremony.

Poles apart from each other in personality, Deepika and Ranveer’s love story began on the sets of filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘… Ram-Leela’. Their off-screen camaraderie gave enough hints to their fans, the media and the film fraternity that love was brewing. But they never confirmed their relationship until recently. They put to rest months of speculation about their nuptials with a social media announcement in October of their wedding dates.

“We thank you for all the love you have showered upon us over the years and seek your blessings as we embark on this incredible journey of love, loyalty friendship and togetherness,” they said in the
announcement.

Over the years, Deepika has been a bit more reserved than Ranveer in expressing her love openly, but the ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’ actor has been uninhibited.

While they spoke a bit about their likes and dislikes about each other at a summit in the capital in October, it is only on ‘Koffee With Karan’ that Deepika was a little more open about her relationship with Ranveer.

After their very private wedding ceremonies, the couple will have a reception each in Bengaluru and Mumbai on November 21 and 28, respectively.

They have urged their guests to direct gifts in the form of a donation to Deepika’s The Live Love Laugh Foundation, which works towards spreading awareness on mental health.

Caught red handed: Deepika Padukone reveals reason for breaking up with Ranbir Kapoor

0

In a rather surprising move, Deepika Padukone reveals reason for breaking up with Ranbir Kapoor a few years back. She gave an interview to a leading magazine and in that interview, she revealed that she caught him red handed while having sex with others and that’s the reason for breaking up with Ranbir.

Ranbir and Deepika met in 2007 when the two were working on their debut films. Reportedly they started dating during their 2008 film Bachna Ae Haseeno. But their relationship was short-lived as Deepika broke up with him later. There were rumors that time that Deepika caught him red handed with Katrina Kaif and that’s the reason they broke up. After this many years, now she confirmed the same.

She told in the interview, “For me, sex is not just about physicality; there are emotions involved. I have never cheated or strayed when I’m in a relationship. If I’m going to be fooling around, why would I be in a relationship? It’s better to be single and have fun. But not everyone thinks like that. Maybe that’s why I’ve been hurt in the past. I was foolish enough to give him a second chance because he begged and pleaded, despite the fact that everyone around me said he was still straying. Then I actually caught him red-handed. It took me a while to get out. But having done that, nothing can make me go back. That ship has sailed. The first time he cheated on me, I thought there was something wrong with the relationship, or me. But when someone makes a habit of it, you know the problem lies with him. I give a lot in relationships, and don’t really expect much in return. But, infidelity is the deal breaker. Once it comes in, respect goes away, trust goes away” Deepika said. She also admitted, “It made me realise I should not be so attached to one thing or a person – after the break-up the fact that I had to pick myself up. I cried a lot after my break-up. But I have become a better person and I thank him for that”.

After breaking up with Ranbir, now Deepika is with Ranveer and both are planning to marry soon.

Not afraid to fail, asserts Deepika Padukone

2

Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone said she was not afraid to fail and not afraid to talk about the way she feels.

She believes that success and failure are all part of life and everybody fails at one point in their life. “I am at a stage in my life where I have been through everything.”

She was speaking on ‘Making mental wellness a boardroom priority’ at the World Congress on Information Technology and Nasscom India Leadership Forum here on Wednesday.

In a packed hall at ‘global influencer session’ on the last day of the three-day event, Deepika, the founder of The Live Love Laugh Foundation, shared her experiences with depression and gave tips to technologists on how to overcome it.

In chat with Nasscom Vice-Chairman and Chief Strategy Officer Wipro Rishad Premji, she said that depression is going to be the next big epidemic.

She said it was important that the persons suffering from depression speak about it with his or her near and dear ones and approach a counsellor and psychiatrist.

Deepika advised all IT companies to have counsellors and psychiatrists to help the employees who may be suffering from depression.

She said the employers should also ensure that such employees are not treated differently, noting there is a lot of stigma attached to mental illness and such people don’t speak due to fear of losing their job.

She believes technology can help create awareness on depression but personal touch and feel is important to help the person. “Personal feel and touch, physical proximity, one-on-one is important which technology in some way is taking away from us.”

On whether social media is adding to the problem, Deepika said while it has been a boon in lot of ways, she believes that everything should be in moderation. She observed that people on social media sometimes present a glorified version of life.

Recalling her fight with depression, the actress said she was not afraid of being judged when she opened up about the problem. “It’s okay to have moments of weakness, okay to break down and okay to cry. It’s okay if you don’t look great all the time,” she said.

Replying to a query from the audience, Deepika said when she was suffering from depression, she used to feel like not getting up from bed and going for work.

“There was no motivation and drive. I was not able to think straight. You feel a burden. You feel clouded and don’t feel like yourself.”

About the many episodes of breaking down, she said one day when her parents were returning to Bengaluru after visiting her, she broke down in front of her mother, who understood the problem and reached out to a counsellor.

“If my mother had not understood the problem, I would not have got the intervention.”

Deepika said while people suffering from depression were not expected to identify the symptoms and reach out to a psychiatrist, those around them have to understand it.

The actress said frequent sessions with counsellors, medication, lifestyle changes, spacing the work, adequate sleep and the right kind of food helped her overcome the problem.

She stressed the need for people to come out and speak about mental illness. “You are not alone. One in three or five persons feels depression. It’s going to be next big epidemic to hit our country,” she said.

On the activities of her Foundation, she said it was working to create awareness in Karnataka’s Davangere district. “If I am able to save even one life, I will feel my job is done.”

After the film’s release, the reactions were quite mixed and some celebrities even condemned the over glorification of Jauhar in the film.

Nevertheless, Ranveer Singh’s performance as ruthless king Allaudin Khilji and Deepika Padukone in the title role earned much love unanimously. The film was praised for its visual excellence and amazing costumes as well. The film has now reached the 300 Crore Club to much delight of the director and his team.

Prabhas to romance Deepika Padukone

If the ongoing buzz in the Bollywood media circles is to be believed, Macho star Prabhas is likely to romance Deepika Padukone in his next film.

Prabhas is currently busy shooting for his upcoming multilingual film Saaho which has Shraddha Kapoor and Neil Nitin Mukesh in important roles. After this, Prabhas is going to make his Bollywood debut with a straight Hindi film. Though the details of the project are kept under wraps, Prabhas himself revealed that he signed a Bollywood biggie a couple of years ago and also stated that he will commence shooting next year.

In the meantime, rumours are abuzz that the makers of his next project are keen on roping in Deepika Padukone as the female lead opposite Prabhas. After the striking success of Baahubali franchise in Northern areas, producers of Prabhas’ films are looking to cast actors with pan-India appeal in his films.

So, it would be interesting to see if this crazy combination materialises. It would definitely be a huge treat for fans to watch this pair sharing the screen space for the first time.

Respect Deepika’s freedom: Kamal Haasan

0

Tamil film actor Kamal Haasan stands in support of “Padmavati” actress Deepika Padukone and says he respects the actress’ freedom. He also urged “cerebral India” to wake up.

“I want Deepika’s head.. saved. Respect it more than her body. Even more her freedom. Do not deny her that. Many communities have opposed my films. Extremism in any debate is deplorable.

“Wake up cerebral India. Time to think. We’ve said enough. Listen Ma Bharat,” Kamal tweeted on Monday night.

A reward of Rs 10-crore was announced for beheading filmmaker Sanajy Leela Bhansali and Deepika over their film “Padmavati”.

Kunwar Surajpal Singh Ammu, a ruling BJP leader in Haryana, on Monday said he firmly stands by his announcement of Rs 10-crore reward for beheading the two.

Ammu, chief media coordinator of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state, said he gave the statement as a “Rajput” and not as an office-bearer of the party.

Ammu said he had doubled the bounty on the heads of Deepika and Bhansali to Rs 10 crore. Ammu also issued a threat to break the legs of actor Ranveer Singh.

Shri Rajput Karni Sena, an organisation of the Rajput community, has been protesting against “Padmavati” for the last few months and now they want a ban on the film.

In “Padmavati”, Ranveer essays the role of Alauddin Khilji, the Delhi Sultan obsessed with legendary 13th century queen of Chittor Rani Padmavati essayed by Deepika.

Amid ‘Padmavati’ row, Deepika pulls out of GES

0

Actress Deepika Padukone, who is at the centre of a row over “Padmavati”, has pulled out of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES), that will have US President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka and Prime Minister Narendra Modi attend the inauguration on November 28.

A senior official of the Telangana government said on Monday that Deepika has declined to attend the event.

The actress was expected to speak at a session on ‘Hollywood to Nollywood to Bollywood: The Path to Moviemaking’ on November 29.

“Earlier Deepika Padukona was expected to be in that session but now she has declined,” said Jayesh Ranjan, Secretary, Information Technology, Government of Telangana.

He, however, said the reason for her decision is not known.

The official was explaining to media persons that the list of speakers is yet to be finalised as there have been several changes.

Deepika’s move comes amid a raging row over “Padmavati”, which was scheduled to be released on December 1.

Protest by Rajput groups forced the producer to defer the release.

Some leaders of BJP and right-wing groups have threatened the actress and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Few have even announced rewards for killing them.

A leader of Akhil Bharatiya Kshatriya Mahasbha (ABKMS) has announced a reward of Rs 1 crore for “burning the actress alive”.

Deepika plays the role of a Rajput queen in the movie. Some Rajput groups allege that Bhansali has distorted history and portrayed the queen in poor light.

Being co-hosted by the US and India, the GES, with the theme ‘Women First, Prosperity for All’, will bring together 1,500 entrepreneurs, investors, and ecosystem supporters from around the world for two-and-a-half days of training and mentoring.

US President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the inaugural session on November 28.

Padmavati Controversy: Are we living in a Jungle Raj?

Are we living in a Jungle Raj or a secular democratic country is the question being raised by concerned and law-abiding people after a BJP leader raised the bounty on the heads of film producer-director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Deepika Padukone, the lead actor in his film Padmavati.

Surajpal Amu, the saffron party’s Haryana leader and chief media coordinator, added more fuel to the raging controversy over Bhansali’s magnum opus on Sunday by announcing that he would offer Rs 10 crores – double the amount offered by Meerut-based Akhil Bharatiya Kshatriya Yuva Mahasabha chief Thakur Abhishek Som. Amu did not stop at that; he took warnings to new levels, threatening “to break the legs” of Ranveer Singh, who played Delhi Sultan Alauddin Khilji.

The film’s release which is slated for December 1 has already been postponed amidst unabated threats and warnings to theatre owners and raging protests from north to south over ‘distortion of historical facts’ in the period film. Then why political leaders who are nothing to do with cinema are turning a film into a national issue and keeping the cauldron boiling? Is it, as Shabana Azmi says, for electoral gains?

Whatever the motive is, if BJP governments in states and at the Centre allow their cadre to unleash terror in the form of life threats, maiming or breaking limbs, now or later will face the backlash. If these leaders are not reined in by party bosses, the situation will be akin to the rule of Taliban or Islamic State.

Words may not be translated into action. But they are capable of inciting mobs to go on rampage. Over the years, films have become favourite means to achieve certain ends in the hands of a few organizations and individuals – now political leaders — for whom the freedom of creativity and expression has little meaning. While there is a need to address the aggrieved community’s concerns, real or perceived, about the film in question, they should not be allowed to hold individuals and the society to ransom. That’s what is happening now.
