KCR Relents, Bandh not Called Off

0

In an unusual decision chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao made a climb-down from his stubborn position on the demand of hiking the salaries municipal sanitary  workers. After a 13 day-long strike,  late Thursday night, he agreed to their demand and announced that municipal  workers’ salary would be hiked to Rs 12,500 and that of drivers to Rs 15,000. But, the hike is limited to Great Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) employees only.

KCR has been forced to take the decision, though partial, following the bandh call given by nine Left parties and support extended to it by all political parties across spectrum. For the first time, all political parties in the state, including YSR Congress and BJP, also joined chorus in spite of the fact that the bandh call is given by Left parties.

Realizing that his obstinate position was leading to a rare unity among the opposition parties and prospects of success of state-wide bandh ,  KCR chose to hike the salaries.  This led to late-night announcement that salaries of the municipal workers were being hiked. As per the announcement the salaries of sanitary worker would be hiked from Rs 8,500 to Rs 12,500 and that of drivers from Rs 10,200 to Rs 15,00 which amount to a hike of 47 per cent.

The Left parties, however, made it clear that the bandh would be observed as announced. The leaders of these parties, who met after the CM’s announcement, denounced that the government’s decision was incomplete. They said hike was confined to the GHMC employees only and ignored the municipal employees in the municipalities and corporations across the state. They said the government was resorting to arm-twisting to split the striking employees.

“CM KCR is anti-worker. Government should accept all demands of municipal employees. The bandh will continues,
the leaders told media after the meeting.

In the meantime, YSR Congress MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy also announced the support of his party to the Friday’s bandh.

Congress to go it alone in GHMC poll

0

Telangana Congress Congress will have no truck with any party in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections. The party will contest the elections, which are expected to be held in December, on its own. The party will field candidates in every division of GHMC.  In past,Congress used to refrain from fielding  candidates against the MIM nominees.

In his August visit to Hyderabad, Rahul is expected to kick start campaign for the GHMC polls. The campain will concentrate on the issue remaining unresolved even after one year of TRS government. Drinking water, power, sanitation, roads, and houses for poor, corruption etc are going to be plank of Congress.

This is the decision taken in the high-level meeting held in New Delhi Wednesday. TCLP leader K Jana Reddy, TSPCC president N Uttamkumar Reddy, working president Mallu Bhattivikramarkha, Legislative council opposition leader Md Ali Shabbir discussed the party’s preparedness for the polls with AICC  vice president Rahul Gandhi and AICC Telangana incharge Digvijay Singh.

Congress has already completed one round of meetings in all the assembly segments that fall in the GHMC area.

VH Condemns KCR’s adamancy towards GHMC strike

0

Congress senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP  V Hanumantha Rao said TRS government was destroying the reputation of Hyderabad in the eyes of national and international investors and visitors  by its refusal concede to legitimate demands of GHMC employees.

Government by its adamancy defeating the very objective of “Swachha  Hyderabad”, he remarked.

Participating in the Dharna organized by GHMC workers, he said, the demands of GHMC workers were genuine and chief minister KCR should conceded to them without delay.

“There has been no meaning in delaying settlement of strike. GHMC workers play crucial role in enhancing the image of Hyderabad as global city,” he said adding that “Bangaru Telangana is not possible as long as the government keeps certain sections of society unhappy.”

The three term-MP was critical of chief minister KCR attitude towards the strike of employees. “It clearly shows how thick skinned you are. You are taking light of a strike in which about 40 thousand people are participating,” he said.

GHMC workers have been on strike for the past six days making Hyderabad city stink.  Roads and streets have not been cleared cleaned. All corners of streets are littered with waste and garbage.

The workers inter alia demand a hike of salary of contract workers from present Rs 8,500 to Rs 14,750 and that of permanent workers from Rs 9,500 to Rs 17,380.

But, the government is reportedly only ready to make it Rs 12,000 per month only. As the government is not ready to relent from its insistence on Rs 12,000, the talks initiated by Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy did not yield any result today.

Referring to government adamant attitude in the talks, Hanumantha Raod said government should not make it a matter prestige.

“City is stinking. On one side you want to make Hyderabad a global city in the eyes of investors on the other, you want the GHMC workers languish underpaid,” Rao said adding he would join them to intensify the strike till their demands are conceded.

Enough is Enough, Quit Hyd : KCR Tells Naidu

0

Sensing politics in the Chandrababu Naidu’s extended dalliance with Hyderabad, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao asked the former to vacate the Telangana capital immediately. He used the occasion of Congress leader D Srinivas’ joining TRS to advise Naidu to move closer to the vast stretch of land between Anantapur and Srikakulam.

“You should be concerned more about the development of your state.  You have a bigger state.  You can boss over there instead of clinging to Hyderabad,” KCR said in the meeting of party workers in his inimitable sarcasm.

KCR is peeved at TDP’s recent change of tack with regard to Hyderabad.  First Naidu was eager to relocate the capital to Vijayawada area. Dozens of teams of officers, ministers, scouted Vijayawada and Guntur towns for suitable location to shift the some important departments. Scores of meetings held with representatives of NGOs connected to persuade them shift to temporary capital.Even a township near Managalagiri had also been identified for building a temporary administrative colony. Expression of Interest to build the township had also been invited. But suddenly, the talk of temporary capital disappeared. Especially after the court directive to Telangana government that the elections to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) should be held before mid-December 2015.

KCR’s plan is to see that Naidu left Hyderabad before GHMC elections. His impatience is stemming from the unlikelihood of latter’s migration to temporary capital.

“You have thirteen districts to roll around. Stop conspiring in our area. You are caught redhanded in the cash-for-vote scam. When we contemplate action you make a hue and cry. We won’t tolerate this,” he said.

I’m Like Like Bullet-proof Vest for Seemandhras

0

Greater Hyderabad Congress president Danam Nagender today clarified that he would not leave the Congress. Talking to media he said whatever being talked about was all speculation. “There appears to be some conspiracy behind these news about by possible crossing over to TRS,” he said adding that some leaders were trying to smoke me out of Congress.

Danam said the TRS government should not create a scare among the Seemandhra people living in Hyderabad. “You (KCR) are asking AP chief minister Chandrababu Naidu to vacate Hyderabad. If you ask a chief minister to leave Hyderabad, how would you create confidence among Seemandhras living in Hyderabad,” he asked.   He said he would work to protect  interests of Seemandhra people like a bullet-proof jacket.

He alleged that GHMC officials were removing the names of Seemandhras from voter-list.

He appealed to Seemandhra people to take a stand against  the TRS government during GHMC elecctions. “You have voted out Congress for dividing the state. Then what about your stand on the TRS style of functioning,” he asked the Seemandhras living in Hyderabad.

Danam announced that he would take up padayatra in Hyderabad on the city’s civic problems.

He heckled CM KCR for pinning great hopes on GHMC elections.

“He will get disappointed,” he said.

He said he would tour across Telangana for the unity among the leaders of the party

Danam said chief minister KCR, instead of concentrating on the implementation of election manifesto, making tall claims. He should better reward first those students who fought heroically for the separate state.

On DS joining TRS, he remarked that DS would not enjoy the respect he commanded in Congress.
