0

A boat in which TDP leaders were travelling in the Godavari river on Thursday capsized creating panic in the tour of former chief minister and leader of opposition N Chandrababu Naidu. The TDP chief was touring the flood hit areas of the Godavari river, when the accident occurred.

Former ministers Pitani Satyanarayana and Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, former MLAs, Rama Raju and Radha Krishna, MLC Mantena Satyanarana Raju and others were travelling in the boat which lost its balance and overturned.

The TDP leaders slipped into the river water screaming on top of the voice. The alerted fishermen and the fishermen and the swimmers who were ready there with life jackets saved the former ministers and the TDP leaders.

Later, they moved into another boat and continued the tour. These leaders were accompanying Chandrababu Naidu who was in another motor boat. Chandrababu Naidu heaved a sigh of relief once the leaders were rescued from the river water and restored into a mechanised boat.

This happened near Rajulu Lanka in West Godavari district.

Chandrababu Naidu is visiting the flood hit areas and meeting the victims, as part of his two-day tour. He is also interacting with the flood victims and trying to assess the damage caused to them and their houses due to the flash floods.

Chandrababu Naidu blamed the government for its failure to save the people from inundation. He asked the government to give Rs 50,000 to each of the families from the inundated villages.

EC issues notification for Mandal elections in AP

0

Vijayawada: The State Election Commission had issued notification for the elections to the mandal parishad in the seven mandals of the Polavaram project area. The government had merged these seven mandals from Telangana with the AP after bifurcation to facilitate the construction of the Polavaram project. Though they had elections in 2014 in the combined State, fresh elections are required now as they were merged with the AP districts. The EC would hold elections to the two Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) seats of Kukunuru and Veluripadu on April 21. The returning officers would receive nominations from April 5 and conduct polling on April 21. The administrations of East and West Godavari districts were directed to make arrangements for the elections.

Meanwhile, the State Election Commission had also issued notification for the by-elections to the two MPTC seats, Peravali in West Godavari district and Srikakulam in the Srikakulam district.

CM Naidu links Godavari with Krishna

0

Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu today participated in the ceremony of linking of rivers Godavari-Krishna facilitated by the Pattiseema lift irrigation project. Welcoming the joining of Godavari waters with Krishna waters, chief minister Naidu unveiled a pylon at Ferry, a village in Ibrahimpatnam mandal, Krishna district. To make the linking of two important rivers of Andhra Pradesh memorable Andhra Pradesh government organized the program as a religious event. Priests performed pujas as per the Hindu tradition chanting the Vedic hymns.

The flow of Godavari water towards Krishna basin began with CM switching on the motors meant for pumping of the water into Polavaram right branch canal which empty the water into Krishna barrage. Describing the event as the first step in making state drought proof, chief minister said it was a sacred moment for everyone as they had witnessed great rivers of the state Krishna and Godavari join.

He smeared clay, brought from the point of where Godavari and Krishna water joined, on his forehead. Naidu told the people assembled to there to witness the event that they were witness at a historic and sacred event.Naidu said the interlinking of rivers was the brain-child of Atal Bihari Vajpayee the project could not make progress during UPA regime. “Today, we have taken it up as a challenge and made it happen in a record time, in spite of roadblocks created by detractors,” he said

Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Project was conceived because of the delay involved in in taking up Polavaram project, he said.” We don’t want Rayalaseem suffer during the execution of the Polavarm project which is likely to take four year for the completion,” Naidu said. The Pattiseema is designed to draw 120 tmc water from Godavari and release it into Krishna barrage. The point is being taken up at a cost of Rs 1300 crore and expected to functional fully by March 2016.

Drama in run up to the event

But, to make the event go as per the expectation of political bosses, scores of engineers from electricity and irrigation department along with hundreds of workers had been deployed put the pumps in place. Originally, the switching-on of the motors was to take place at nine in the morning. But, incessant rains put paid to the plans. Till afternoon the welding works could not be completed. Finally, two pumps with a pumping capacity of 354 cusecs were installed and electricity supply posed a problem for some time further delaying the release of water.

Amaravati will be free of casino and race course

0

Though chief minister Chandrababu Naidu plans to build new capital Amaravati into a world-class city, it would be free of casinos and race-course. This was made clear by finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu today in Assembly when BJP member suggested that government should consider setting up casinos in Amaravati. Even though casinos and race-clubs help shore up revenues, there was no proposal to set up casinos in new capital, the minister said.

According to Vishnukumar Raju, several people from Visakhapatnam and Godavari districts often go outside the state to play and place bets in casinos in Goa and Sri Lanka. Government should think of establishing casinos, horse racing clubs in the Amaravati to make city an entertainment centre as well.

“If Casinos are set up in the State itself, government can earn revenue from these centres in the form of taxes”, P. Vishnukumar Raju said participating in a discussion on the amendment to AP (Telangana Area) Horse Racing and Betting Tax Regulation.

The Finance Minister however responded that there was no proposal now to set up casinos.

Bapu-Ramana with NTR – Not a Fairy Tale beginning, but a Fairy Tale ending

It is indeed poetic justice that the statues of Bapu and Ramana were installed alongside that of N T Rama Rao on the banks of River Godavari around Pushkaram. Not many people know this but the relationship of the duo Bapu Ramana with NTR has not begun well. But once a relationship got established, it grew into a life-long friendship that culminated into many fruitful associations.[pullquote position=”right”]                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Bapu-Ramana’s statues just got erected alongside NTR. Is this a collaboration that was made in heaven? A recount of one of the most creative associations in Telugu film industry – something that never got noticed.

[/pullquote]

Here’s how it began. Bapu-Ramana already created a sensation with début film “Saakshi” and films like “Buddhimanthudu” in which Sobhan Babu played Krishna – which became as popular as NTR’s Krishna role. By that time, NTR already attained demi-god status as Lord Krishna. Nobody had the guts to make a film revolving around Krishna or Raman without invoking the blessings of NTR at that time. But Bapu-Ramana had that courage because they sought to make films in which the story was the real star. They followed it up with a brand-new first-time color version of Ramayana called “Sampurna Ramayana” in which Sobhan Babu played the title role of Rama. The film faced lot of issues because of fears of antagonizing NTR at the helm of stardom.

Distributors tried to stall the film itself – how can you make a film based on Rama without NTR? Produced by Bapu-Ramana themselves, the film struggled to find distributors because nobody dared to displease NTR. Then the legendary actor SV Ranga Rao (who played Ravana in the film) stepped in and decided to take the soliloquy sequence of Ravana at the climax to be shown to NTR, the boss relented and the film found buyers. It didn’t run for the first few weeks but later went to celebrate 100 days in almost every centre it got released. Many weeks later, the great NTR requested a screening of the film and watched it, sitting next to Sobhan Babu and patted him for a stellar performance.

The sensation of “Sampurna Ramayana” led to NTR grudgingly accepting the directorial genius of Bapu and the craftsmanship of Ramana to create characters that breathe fire on screen. He wanted to work with the writer-director duo that is making new wave cinema in Telugu. Lakshmi Films, one of the foremost distributors and producers came forward to make a film again based on Ramayana, this time with the original NTR himself. Everybody thought if a film with Sobhan Babu as Rama created such sensation, then the combination of Bapu Ramana and NTR will create a bigger sensation.

The story was a lesser known episode of a war between a God and his supreme devotee – “Sri Ramanjaneya Yuddham”. The film showed NTR in sparkling costumes and dazzling crown and amulets and had the unmistaken stamp of Bapu and Ramana. Few songs also stood out. But the film bombed and sank the producers. It brought good name for NTR as a handsome Rama but failed to create magic at the box office closing the doors for a long, long time on Bapu-Ramana to make any more films with NTR. While the film looks squeaky clean and classy, Bapu and Ramana later opined that had NTR listened better to some suggestions made by the makers, the film would have got better angles and treatment. In some crucial scenes, they felt the star didn’t cooperate.

After “Sri Ramanjaneya Yuddham” in 1974, the makers surged ahead with a magnificent blockbuster “Mutyala Muggu” in 1975 – the same year that “Sholay” was released. Just as “Sholay” had made Amjad Khan the most famous villain in Bollywood, “Mutyala Muggu” gave Rao Gopal Rao the chance to become the ruling villain for the next decade or so in Telugu films. It was that big hit – again NT Rama Rao saw the film early on and lavished praise on Bapu and Ramana for creating the most exquisite sequences of marital bliss between Sridhar and Sangita, which made NTR recall his marriage days. He liked the film at the première and suggested to Bapu that if had included some fights, the film would run for at least a year. Without fights, with due apologies to NTR, the film ran for a day less than an year!

And NTR and Bapu Ramana never worked together as the duo made hit films with Krishnam Raju, Krishna, Sobhan Babu, Chiranjeevi, Rajendra Prasad, Mohan Baba, Chandra Mohan, Anil Kapoor and others but a movie with NTR never came calling. Both NTR and Bapu-Ramana attained giddy fame with paths that never crossed.

When NTR became the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, he summoned the duo once again.

Cabinet takes light of the Pushkarala stampede

0

Andhra Pradesh cabinet which met in Rajahmundry for four hours took light of the stampede on the first day of Godavari Pushkaralu. The four-hour long meeting, held in R&B guest house in the city, devoted a just minute silence to pay condolences to those crushed to death in the stampede reportedly caused by the delayed pujas by chief minister a ghat which not designated for VVIPs.

Though chief minister Chandrababu Naidu announced Judicial inquiry into the causes of stampede deaths, the cabinet is said to be in favor of an inquiry by a retired judge. State government is not keen on getting a sitting judge of High Court appointed for inquiry. I &PR minister, Palle Raghuntha Reddy indicated to this effect after cabinet meeting .  This is likely to trigger opposition from opposition parties  as they have been demanding a probe by a sitting judge of the High Court.

The meeting, chaired by the chief minister,  went gaga about greatness of Andhra Pradesh, the resources available and state government’s commitment to build a new capital with international standards. The cabinet decided to send a team to study to beautiful capitals of Central Asia, Astana (Kazakhstan)and Ashgabat (Turkmenistan).

The minister  said Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested that a team from state should  visit Kazakh and Turkmenistan capitals to study the architectural designs.  Palle said the state government was committed to build the capital with international standards. He said state would call upon Japan and Singapore to participate in the Swiss Challenge model to build the capital.

The cabinet called upon people of the state to celebrate the closing ceremony of Godavari Pushkaralu with state-wide participation in a grand way. The cabinet wants every family in the state to perform “deeparadhana” (lighting of lamp) as part of the Pushkara Jyothi to mark the closing of the Mahapushkaralu.

In a surprise turn, the cabinet fully backed TDP MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar, who allegedly manhandled MRO Vanajakshi. Giving clean to chit to the MLA, the cabinet felt that the revenue official was at fault in not taking cognizance of the permission to mine the sand and for crossing the boundary of the district.

Why was the main pushkar ghat closed for two and half hours?

0

Why was the main pushkar ghat closed for more than two and half hours yesterday in Rajahmundry, minutes before the stampede crushed about 30 people to death?

According to highly placed sources in the government Naidu was busy with National Geographic (NG)which was commissioned to make a documentary on the entire pushkaralu revolving around chief minister Chandrababu Naidu. National Geographic was given contract  for an unknown amount to do the program starting from July 14 to July 25. The NG will produce a 40-minute documentary on the glory of  Godavari  Maha Pushkaralu and it will aired after the closure of the Pushkaralu. Even though the documentary is about Godavari, it would depict  chief minister Naidu as central figure promoting the Telugu culture and marketing  the state abroad to attract the investor towards Andhra Pradesh.Similarly a Telugu director has also been entrusted with the work of making another documentary for state government.

As the inaugural day is  important for the documentary,  NG crew wanted to film the  CMs’ offerings prayers to River Godavari elaborately and it took longer time than expected. The crew  was asked to shoot the chief minister at main ghat as the chief minister’s men expected  more devotees at the ghat which is located nearer to Godavari railway station. So, Naidu was asked to take holy dip at the main Pushkara ghat in stead of the  Saraswati Ghat  designated for VVIPs.

In normal course, the CM’s holy dip should not take more than 30 minutes. As it was not ceremonial but meant for filming for documentary, the pujas have been performed leisurely so that every aspect of chief minister and his family participation recorded in minute detail, said  a senior official from Rajahmundry.

“Since CM was scheduled to visit the main ghat, all gates had been closed from 4. 30 early in the morning. The area was not barricaded because of a laser show organized at that place the previous night in which CM and his family were present. As the laser show went up to  10.30 PM, to facilitate movement of the VVIPs,  barricades were not erected. And devotees from North Coastal Andhra started pouring in large numbers at the venue since midnight. They chose this particular venue as it is located just few meters away from the Godavari railway station,’ the official told Telugu360.com over phone.

All these devotees, the official said, planned to take an early dip in the river so that they could go back the next day.

Naidu’s spin doctors chose this particular ghat  as they wanted NG film how  large crowds keep on waiting  for hours to have a glimpse of chief minister.  Because of this, it is learnt, CM’s advisers are said to have brushed aside the advise of relief commissioner to the chief minister take holy dip in the Saraswati Ghat.

The general impression is that  had chief minister chosen the earmarked ghat, the gory accident would not have taken place.

Pushkaralu Full of Corruption : Kanna

0

Exposing uneasy relationship  between the  Bharatiya Janata Party and ruling Telugu Desam party, former minister and BJP leader Kanna Lakshminarayana made a scathing attack on the government that Godavari Pushkara arrangements were reeking of corruption everywhere.

Kanna’s hard talk is sure to rustle Telugu Desam jimmies as the ruling party has never expected such discontent spring from state BJP.

Even though a section in the BJP feels  that TDP is not accommodating the  party workers at any level,  state BJP leadership has never allowed this grow to the level of causing discomfort in the alliance in the state. There has been a gulf between the group unhappy with TDP and BJP  state leadership which has cordial relationship with the TDP leadership. Kanna’s outburst is indicative of  tension building up in the party.

Today,Kanna, along with local BJP leaders visited many Pushkara Ghats in and around Rajahmundry.

“Nowhere are the works of Pushkaralu up to satisfactory. Except the main ghat in Rajahmundry which is often visited by chief minister Chadrababu Naidu  , Ghat works are incomplete everywhere. At a particular ghat I visited not even 10 per cent of the total works have been completed. Out of the estimated cost of the Rs 42 lakh, the works completed would not cost more than two lakhs,” Kanna said.

He said  there was more hype than the substance in the government’s Pushkara campaign.

” It is unfortunate that corruption has crept into the sacred works of Godavari Pushkaralu. Government should ensure that the event which should remain the symbol of Telugu people pride and culture be free from corruption,” he cautioned the government.

Kanna, who is now camping in Rajahmundry, took strong objection to the marginalization of the BJP minister Manikyala Rao in the chief minister Chandrababu Naidu’s cabinet.

“He has been kept in the dark with regard to the decisions related to the Pushkaralu. He is not being consulted in the works and programs, even though he is minster for endowments,” Kanna said.

Kanna was also critical of chief minister Naidu’s stance in the case related to MRO Vanajakshi who was attacked Dunduluru MLA Ch Prabhakar.

“Naidu appears to be working towards striking a deal. It looks like he is biased in favor of his party MLA,” he said adding that it would not instill confidence  among the woman officers in the state.

However, home minister Nimmakayala Rajaiah, dismissed the remarks of Kanna as baseless.

” Kanna is not aware of full scale of works and mechanism in place to watch the quality of the works,,” he said. According to the minister, a JNTU team was on the job of verifying the works for their quality.

Rajahmundry MLA Gorantla Buchhaiah Chowdary said the question of sidelining the endowments minister doesn’t arise as the CM Naidu himself in overseeing every work.

Godavari Water Becomes Inflammable in TS

0

Politically speaking, Godavari water is becoming inflammable in Telangana. So far, we have seen the Krishna water generating extreme heat between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and this lead to lathi-battle between the two Telugu states near Nagarjuna Sagar some time back.

This time round, the Godavari water is turning into contentious issue because of TRS government’s decision to abandon  Dr BR Ambedkar Pranahita-Chevella Sujala Sravathi project, which YSR initiated as chief minister. YSR laid foundation for the project, which would impound 160 TMC water from Pranahita river, on December 17, 2008. On that day, the project, planned with an outay of Rs, 38,5000 crore, was envisaged to generate 13,500 MW power.

Adilabad district was upbeat because it was going to be the principal beneficiary. Now, tension is building up in the district as the TRS has almost decided to abandon the original project and wants to build a project in lieu of Dr BRAPCSS project near Kalewaram. The decision has meet with protest from all opposition parties-Congress,YSRC, Telugu Desam, CPI and CPM. The mass organization Jalasadhana Samithi organized protest against the decision in the very meeting KCR addressed in Gudem, Adilabad district, two days ago.

Political parties allege that the original project is abandoned as it gives credit to the Congress party.  YSR Congress says KCR doen’t want credit go to YS Rajasekhar Reddy. CPI and CPM also are opposing the change of project site.

On the other side, government argues that original project, with huge submergence in Maharasthra, leads to disputes and stalls the project, and shifting of the project from Tummidihetti to Kaleswaram in Karimnagar disrtrict is the best deal.

Jalasadhana Samiti, a non-profit and non-political mass organization disputes government’s verision. According to Nainal Goverdhan, a representative of organization, original project is planned scientifically and water flows due to gravity. “If a project is built near Kaleswaram, transferring water to Adilabad district which is located on higher planes, is difficult and needs huge power to lift the water to higher levels. Kaleswaram denies Godavari water to Adilabad,” he told Telugu360.

KCR, he said, organized Telangana movement around the slogan ‘Telangana Resourses to Telangana’ only. Now we want carry that slogan forward with “Adilabad water to Adilabad  only”.

“We oppose the Kaleswaram  and demand that original project be implemented,” he said. Goverdhan was warned by CM KCR of dire consequences if continues to oppose the Kaleswaram, when staged a protest Gudem village.

Similarly, CPI state secretary Chada Venkata Reddy also opposed the move to change Dr BRAPCSS project alignment. District CPM leader Bandi Dattadri, advised the government to against shifting project. Instead, he said, to avoid the submergence in Maharashtra, the height of the project could be brought down by 5 mts. The financial burden of Kaleswaram would outweigh the benefits if the project is built near Kaleswaram.

Many suspect, something more than feasibility and submergence in Maharashtra are said to have driven the government to abandon the original project, which no doubt earlier attracted criticism from environmentalists.

Even though no force can stop the government shifting the Dr BRAPHSS project (name also will be erased) to Kaleswaram, the decision is bound to create ill-will among the people of Adilabad against KCR government.
