    Buzz: Sanjay Dutt in Ram’s Double Ismart?

    Energetic Star Ram commenced the shoot of Double Ismart, the sequel for Ismart Shankar. Puri Jagannadh took a long break after the debacle of Liger and he worked on the script. The shoot of the film is happening in Mumbai and Double Ismart is said to be a pan-Indian film. The makers are spending lavishly on the project. Puri Jagannadh has been considering several Bollywood actors and he is said to have approached Sanjay Dutt for an important role.

    Sanjay Dutt is said to have given his formal nod for the film. Sanjay Dutt has been signing more and more South Indian films. An official announcement will be made soon. The heroine and the music director too are yet to be locked and announced. Puri Connects is producing Double Ismart and the film is slated for 2024 release.

    Actress Nidhhi Agerwal has opened up on how her life changed after Puri Jagannadh’s Telugu blockbuster “iSmart Shankar”, which released a year ago on July 18.

    “I feel proud to be a part of ‘iSmart Shankar’. Puri sir was in my list of dream directors and I’m very happy to have worked with him. The film has changed my life in a lot of way. For the first time, I did a very ‘massy’ film and a whole new section of people have seen me in the film. People praised me a lot. Also, it felt like a long holiday while working with Puri sir,” Nidhhi recalled.

    The movie featured Ram Pothineni as the lead character of a contract killer named Shankar, who manages to escape after murdering a politician.

    Nabha Natesh and Satyadev Kancharana were also a part of the cast of “iSmart Shankar”.

    2019 Domestic report: Tollywood ends the decade on a sombre report

    Tollywood’s total box office revenue was flat in 2019 at ₹825 crore. In contrast, last year, the box office went a quarter down from the record high of 2017, even excluding Baahubali: The Conclusion, it dipped 7.4 percent. The industry was able to match the total box office of 2018 with 8 less films. This stability may look impressive, but there’s more to these numbers than simple look will tell. First off, below is a table showing the box office highlights of last five years.

    Over the last few years, drawing conclusions on comparison from the box office share has become a little complicated due to imposition of GST, which deflated the shares in the second half of 2017 and whole of 2018 with 28 percent tax rate, and then inflated the numbers in 2019 with reduction of rate to 18 percent. Complicating things further, in 2019, distributors quietly began including the GST output when reporting box office numbers. The move was basically to juice the numbers.

    Adjusting these two factors, the comparable number last year is ₹720 crore approx, which is about 13 percent down from last year. This consecutive two years decline in box office is a worrisome issue for the industry. Despite continuous increase in ticket rates and growth in multiplex sector, the box office is on decline.

    The classifications of 2019 are as below, with only 2 medium budget blockbusters during the year. No Tollywood tentpole was able to become even a Super Hit with Maharishi being the only Hit from the A-tier stars. The biggest grosser of the year was Syeraa Narasimha Reddy with a record breaking ₹125 crore while the biggest hit of the year was F2. Saaho was the biggest missed opportunity which, however, did well in Hindi version.

    Without even taking his father’s approval, young hero Bellamkonda Srinivas came up with ‘Sita’ and with his dad’s half consent he has done ‘Rakshasudu’. But both films haven’t yielded big fruits at the box office. Sita is an upright dud, and Rakshasudu caused slight losses despite the good talk around.

    Recently when an aspiring director wanted to narrate a story to Srinivas, his dad Suresh is said to have asked him to tell the gist. After listening to that, the Senior Bellamkonda has shown doors to the youngsters. And here is his logic, which an insider shared.

    “Evaru is a superhit as per reviews and talk, so is Ismart Shankar that fetched above-average reviews and good talk. But Evaru made only 10 crores share so far and might get another couple of crores and Ismart Shankar bagged 34 cr share. So which film a producer wants to make now?” asked Bellamkonda Suresh, as per the people in the know about this incident.

    It is expected that Ismart Shankar will once again stimulate the hopes of these ‘oora mass films’ loving producers. This might result in a bunch of similar run-of-the-mill films churned out. While Bellamkonda opened about this old son, we have to see who else will join the bandwagon.

    Ismart Shankar has ended up its run worldwide with a distributor share of 34.55 Cr. The film is a blockbuster with theatrical rights valued at 17 Cr. It has also emerged as career highest grosser for the hero Ram Pothineni. After a good first week the film has done well even in the following weeks despite competition. It would have crossed 35 cr mark if it had some appeal for the family audience but thats how Puri jagannadh films are off late.

    Ram starrer iSmart Shankar, which emerged as blockbuster hit, marked the comeback of director Puri Jagannadh. The film also gave the much needed break for two happening starlets Nabha Natesh and Nidhhi Agerwal. Both these young heroines were looking for one decent hit to survive in Tollywood and they bagged the success at the right time with iSmart Shankar.

    Now, they are hoping that the success of iSmart Shankar will fetch them good offers in coming days. Nabha Natesh made her debut in Sudheer Babu’s Nannudochukunduvate last year. Even though Nabha impressed with her screen presence, she was unable to get offers. Her bold performance in iSmart Shankar has grabbed the attention of audience. She is now looking for glamorous roles in upcoming medium budget films.

    Also, Niddhi Agerwal got a break with iSmart Shankar after tasting failures in her first two outings with Savyasachi and Mr. Majnu. Her glamorous performance turned out to be one of the assets for the success of iSmart Shankar. But, she is yet to get her next offer in Telugu.

    Puri has already announced his next film and Ram has lined up a couple of interesting projects up next. Both Nabha and Niddhi are also confident that iSmart Shankar success will be a turning point for them.

    iSmart Shankar has emerged as a blockbuster as the film collected a distributor share of 31.80 cr by the end of 12 days. After a good first week the film has held well in its second weekend despite competition from Dear Comrade. Collections on 12th day ie, Second Monday in many centres are similar to the new release Dear Comrade. The film is set to collect over 33 cr or may be more in its lifetime which depends on how the upcoming releases will fare. It could have done more than 35 Cr without depending on further releases if it had appeal for the family audience which it lacks big time.

    iSmart Shankar has a good first as the film has collected a worldwide distributor share of over 27.65 Cr. This is the first film for the hero Ram Pothineni to cross the 25 cr mark. After an excellent extended weekend, the film has held decent on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday (though the drop is a bit more than usual). The film is a Super Hit but the blockbuster status depends on how it is going to fare in it’s second week where it is going to face competition from Dear Comrade which is releasing this friday.

    Puri clarifies on Ismart Shankar Plagiarism Issue

    Sensational director Puri Jagannadh made his comeback with Ismart Shankar, a mass entertainer that featured Ram, Nabha Natesh and Nidhhi Agerwal in the lead roles. Tamil actor Akash recently met the press and claimed that Ismart Shankar has been inspired from his 2016 film Naan Yaar. He threatened that he would initiate legal proceedings if Puri Jagannadh and his team fail to respond on plagiarism row.

    Puri Jagannadh and his team are busy touring across Telugu states meeting fans in theatres. During a press meet, Puri responded about the plagiarism row. He said “Ismart Shankar is my story and I did not copy it from anywhere. Akash did not meet or approach me till date about this. I have seen this in the media. We are just currently enjoying the success of Ismart Shankar”. We have to wait to see where this issue ends.

    iSmart Shankar has a decent Monday as the film has collected a distributor share of 2.17 cr taking four days total to 22.40 Cr. There is a drop of little more than 50 percent from Sunday which is quite decent considering the first monday is 5th day rather than 4th. The hold is mixed for the film as some areas have dropped around 60 percent or even 70 but some have dropped around only 40 percent. The film will cross 10cr mark today in Nizam.

    Top director Puri Jagannadh made his comeback after a while with Ismart Shankar. The film is raking massive revenues across all the released circuits and it has been named as a blockbuster already. Ram, Nabha Natesh and Nidhhi Agerwal are the lead actors in this mass entertainer. When the whole unit was spotted celebrating the success of Ismart Shankar, Puri and his team received a shock after actor Akash claimed that Ismart Shankar has been copied from his film.

    Akash claims that Ismart Shankar is adapted from his 2016 film Naan Yaar. Akash said that he watched the film in Chennai and was left in shock. Though he tried to approach Puri and his team, they did not respond said Akash. It is then Akash called C Kalyan and the discussions are on. Akash said that he collected all the valid proofs and forwarded them to Puri Jagannadh. The actor is in plans for legal proceedings if he fails to get a possible solution.

    The maverick director and filmmaker Puri Jagannadh gained much popularity after his debut film Badri with his out of the box lines,  dialogues and crazy characterizations of the lead roles. His characters never have an added layer of nicety or polished nature, but they are unbashfully themselves. Whether it was Ravi Teja’s character as a determined lover in Idiot, or the petty goon Pandu (Mahesh Babu) in Pokiri, or the badass police offer Jr.NTR in Temper, Puri Jagannadh always strikes the bull’s eye with his striking characterizations. At one point, the viewer will also be tempted to think that it is his mind which is talking through the characters he created! It was this fearless and frivolous nature of lead characters which became the biggest USP of Puri’s films. Over the years, he has churned out a unique formula of a commercial film which also dwells deeply on philosophy and spirituality! This indeed is a strange combination because in real life- commercial living and spirituality are poles apart.

    To get an essential high in terms of filmmaking and presentation, filmgoers love to go to Puri’s films. However, after Temper, the director was struggling to find his sweet spot in bringing out a commercial hit. His last release Mehbooba featuring his son Akash Puri as a lover boy didn’t do much well at the Box Office.

    But the determined filmmaker made sure that his next film will be paying to his strengths- which comprises of strong-willed hero, witty punch dialogues, and rope tight script. With Ram’s Ismart Shankar, Puri got back to his essential strengths with amazing honesty in the script. Interestingly, he made Energetically Star Ram a new makeover as a Telangana goon with a sci-fi twist. The audience are flocking to theatres to just get a high of the rawness of the flick and Mani Sharma’s background score is also getting much adoration.

    It is indeed a brilliant comeback for Puri Jagannadh and Mani Sharma back into the groove with nerve-wracking hit by ISmart Shankar doing well at the Box Office! This proves time and again that trusting your instincts and strengths will bring out the best output in Cinema!

    iSmart Shankar has an excellent extended weekend as the film has collected a worldwide distributor share of 22.35 Cr. All the buyers are into profit zone and the film is also going to recover the valued rights value in USA by the end of this week which is a good result for this kind of mass film. It has also emerged as the career highest grosser for the hero Ram Pothineni. The film is a super hit already and the hold on weekdays will tell about its blockbuster status.

    Energetic Star Ram and sensational director Puri Jagannadh teamed up for the first time for Ismart Shankar and the film is raking massive revenues all over. The film entered the safe zone even before the first weekend. The film carried decent expectations but Puri’s recent track record made trade show no interest over the film. Puri and his team managed to find buyers in the last minute and the film got a decent release.

    Ram who was promised Rs 5 crores remuneration but he was paid Rs 2.5 crores in advance. Ram too did not mount pressure as he had a firm belief in Puri. But things changed completely after Ram’s pending remuneration was not paid before the release. The actor decided to skip the post-release promotions as he was not paid the full amount.

    Ram’s uncle Sravanthi Ravikishore is handling the issue and he is in plans to approach the Producers’ Council if the issue doesn’t get sorted out in the next couple of days. Puri Jagannadh is expected to be left in hefty profits as the film has been doing stunning theatrical business and with the digital, satellite deals closed before release. We have to wait to see if Puri settles Ram’s remuneration before things turn loud and trigger controversies.

    Telugu films are having a decent run at the US box office. Latest release iSmart Shankar had a so-so first weekend and Samantha’s Oh Baby is nearing the million dollar mark.

    iSmart Shankar, starring Ram Pothineni in the lead role, received an OK response from overseas audience as it managed to collect $ 200K in its opening weekend. The commercial potboiler, directed by Puri Jagannadh, started off with $ 52K on premiers and 31K on Thursday. On Friday, the film maintained it hold with $42K. There is a slight uptick on Saturday as it collected $57K. With Sunday’s $ 24K, as of this writing, the film surpassed $ 200K. This is a moderate run for the genre and Puri’s not-so-impressive track record in overseas.

    Samantha’s solo hit Oh Baby is still continuing its run at the US box office as it is nearing $ 1M mark. After pulling in $ 700K in first week $ 220K in second week, the film inched closer to the prestigious million dollar mark as it collected another $ 50K in the third weekend. The film has already emerged as a super hit in overseas.

    iSmart Shankar has a good hold on third day in Telugu States as the film has collected a distributor share of 3.85 Cr taking three days total to 15.70 Cr. There is a drop of 10 percent from second day which is a normal trend for the films which release on Thursday. The film should collect in a excess of 4 cr share today taking extended weekend total to about 20 Cr.
