Rajini offers best wishes to Kamal

0

Superstar Rajinikanth on Wednesday said only time will answer the question whether he and Kamal Haasan could tie up in politics.

“Only time will tell,” he said in reply to questions by reporters whether the two actors, who are long-time friends, will combine together in the political arena.

Both have announced their entry into politics in Tamil Nadu at a time there is a political vacuum created by the death of J. Jayalalithaa and the fading away from politics of DMK chief M. Karunanidhi.

Rajinikanth offered his best wishes to Kamal Haasan, who on Tuesday announced plans to reveal the name of his political party on January 21 in Ramanathapuram and begin a tour of some parts of the state.

Meanwhile, the two stars were present at a function to launch the production of an animation film “Raju in East Africa” featuring the late MGR, which will be a sequel to his blockbuster movie “Ulagam Sutrum Vaaliban” released in the 1970s.

Kamal Haasan to announce political party’s name

Veteran actor Kamal Haasan has announced he will commence his political journey from his hometown Ramanathapuram on February 21, when he will also reveal the name of his party.

He made the announcement in a statement issued late on Tuesday night, saying his purpose in life is to “challenge the status quo that has been plaguing the politics of Tamil Nadu for some time now”.

“I intend to embark on a journey across the state from February 21, 2018 to truly understand as to what the needs of my people are?, what is afflicting them?, what their aspirations are?

“Further, this momentous journey of meeting people across Tamil Nadu is neither an act of rebellion nor is it a gathering for glamour. Simply put, this is a journey of discovery and learning and an opportunity for me to truly understand my people,” said Haasan, 63.

This, he said, is being planned and executed in phases and over a period of time.

“I believe it will be truly appropriate if my political journey commences from the place of my birth and hometown Ramanathapuram. Following this, I intend on meeting and spending time with the people from the districts of Madurai, Dindigul and Sivagangai.

“In addition, at the commencement of the journey, I intend to announce the name of my political party along with the guiding principles we intend to live by,” Haasan added.

With his political foray, Haasan intends to “question mediocrity and raise the bar on governance and welfare for the people of Tamil Nadu”.

“The journey is intended towards that goal. I begin this journey with your support. Join hands with me to empower our country and state,” said the acclaimed actor, who feels the love he has for people of the state needs to be “manifested in action and deed”.

The wooden structure was erected for an decorative arch as a part of the centenary celebration of AIADMK founder M.G. Ramachandran.

PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss said the ruling party has not obtained any permission from the authorities for putting up such structures.

Kamal hints at party launch by January, says he’s not anti-Hindu

0

Kamal hints at party launch by January

Short of announcing the launch of his political party, actor Kamal Haasan indicated on Tuesday that he may come up with its name by next January and sought to project that he was not anti-Hindu nor did he want to deliberately hurt their sentiments.

Addressing a press conference on his 63rd birthday here, he announced the launch of an app #KH with several links like “maiamwhistle” (centre whistle) and “theditheerpomvaa” (let us search and resolve). It will act as a digital platform for people to complain and interact with him.

“I plan to undertake a tour of Tamil Nadu to reach out to people. The dates will be announced later,” Kamal said at an hour-long media interaction, which was marked by his trademark replies in riddles.

In his opening statement, Kamal said people would be asking him questions as to when he would launch the party about which he has been speaking, and answered saying: “A lot of prepatory work is being done. I am consulting experts and friends and will make the announcement at the appropriate time.

“Why should I announce a party separately as I am already there.”

Answering one of the questions, he said like one of the links to his digital platform, he would be neither be going “left nor right”.

Asked about the perception that he was anti-Hindu in view of his recent statements, Kamal sought to suggest that he was only talking about Hindu extremism and not Hindu terrorism.

“I am not starting a party to hurt Hindus. I come from a Hindu family and I do not want to lose the affection of my family first. I am not trying to hurt Hindus but when mistakes are done, I will speak about it.

“I am only talking reality when I speak of violence. All Hindus should understand and discuss. Nobody should indulge in such violence. It applies to Hindus and Muslims. When I say extreme, it doesn’t mean terror. But there is violence,” he said.

To another question about Hindutva elements attacking him, Kamal said: “I only spoke truth. If punishment is given for that, I am ready to accept it.”

He was apparently referring to threats to his life from some Hindutva organisations after his recent statement slamming Hindu extremism.

“I have friends and relatives in all communities, though some people are calling me anti-Hindu. I have moved away from my Brahmin moorings. It is a search. There is no pride or shame in it. I am being called an atheist by believers but I am a rationalist.”

Explaining why he was not in a position to give details of his political plans, he said he was looking at larger goals and a longer time.

“You have to give me time for coming out with a manifesto, a name. I am working on the structural part of it. I am in no hurry, there is no need to hurry, I need your support,” he said.

Talking about the app, he said the name was derived from the Ashoka Chakra which is a virtuous cycle that has become a vicious circle. He wanted people to be whistleblowers.

“Tomorrow, I may also get some political responsibility and the whistle should be blown against me too. Even I should be questioned,” he asserted.

Asked how he would keep away tainted people and money from his organisation, Kamal said he was working on such things too. He added that even in his film career, there has been no black money.

He said already people, especially the poor, have contributed Rs 30 crore to the kitty of his fans’ association, which is audited.

Kamal visited a medical camp earlier in the day.

Kamal Haasan should be shot dead, says Hindu outfit leader

0

A senior leader of a Hindu outfit — Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha — on Friday slammed veteran Tamil actor Kamal Haasan for his “Hindu terror” remarks and said people like him should be “shot dead”.

Referring to the statement made by Haasan on Thursday in a column in a weekly magazine, Mahasabha leader Pt. Ashok Sharma said these people accused the followers of Hinduism of Hindu terror only to “push their own biased communal agenda”.

“There is no other way to handle people like Kamal Haasan but to either hang them or shoot them dead,” he said.

Angered by the uncharitable remarks of Kamal Haasan, Sharma — the national Vice President of the Hindu group — said that people who used such language or were so biased against the Hindu religion and its faithfuls had no right to live.

Members of the Mahasabha have also announced to boycott all films of the 62-year-old actor and all actors from his family, including his daughter Shruti Haasan, who acts in Hindi films. The outfit has also exhorted others to follow the suit and boycott films of such artistes.
