Budget is one of the major aspects of filmmaking. Sensible planning of schedules and locations is very crucial to make a film without overshooting the budget. Of late, Tollywood filmmakers are failing to control budget spent on big ticket films. The latest case is Mahesh Babu’s upcoming film Maharshi.

Reportedly, a lavish village set has been mounted with a cost of 8 Crores. As the story demands to shoot some crucial part of the film in a village atmosphere, the makers have decided to erect this special set in Hyderabad. They are spending a whopping 10 Crores for this schedule. Usually, shooting in villages might cost around 1 or 2 Crores for filmmakers. But, they are not willing to shoot in real villages due to several reasons and choosing to erect sets in studios which results in unnecessary budget.

To compensate for the high budget, producers tend to quote exorbitant prices for the theatrical rights and therefore pushing the break even figure to an unreasonable mark. Unless films emerge as blockbusters at box office, they fail to break even for buyers.

In the olden days, directors used to recreate sets for the environment which is not available. But, now a days, they are preferring artificial sets even though the resources are naturally available. It is high time, filmmakers and heroes plan judiciously and avoid unnecessary spending of budget.

Superstar Mahesh Babu’s last film Bharat Ane Nenu emerged as one of the biggest grossers in overseas. The film collected close to $ 3.5 M, but only resulted in meagre profits for its buyers as the theatricals were sold for relatively higher prices due to the heady and successful combination of Mahesh and Koratala. Now, the stakes on Mahesh’s 25th film Maharshi are also quite high.

Reportedly, the makers of Maharshi are getting fancy offers in the range of 16 Crores for overseas rights. Discussions are currently on between the producers and buyers and the deal might be closed very soon. Trade analysts opine that it is going to be a risky bet for trade circles as the film needs to emerge as a solid hit in overseas to be a profitable venture for its buyers. They are cautioning that Bharat Ane Nenu managed just to break even though it collected a terrific gross of $ 3.5 M in overseas.

So, Maharshi needs to perform exceptionally well if all its buyers need to be in safe zone. As the film is releasing in Summer, the expectations are very high. It will be another test for Mahesh Babu’s stamina in overseas.

Heroes and directors have the habit of taking advance from producers to give their future dates. If they fail to fulfill the commitment, the advance will be returned with interest. Or else, they may manage to do a film after some delay. Superstar Mahesh Babu is now facing a similar situation.

At the time of Business Man movie, Mahesh Babu took an advance of 5 Crores from producer RR Venkat of RR Movie Makers. After Business Man, Mahesh and Puri were supposed to team up again for a film under the production house. However, the project didn’t materialize due to several reasons. But, Mahesh didn’t return the advance till date.

Close sources revealed that Mahesh is in a dilemma. He is in plans to somehow honour his commitment to RR Venkat because the advance has inflated to 15 Crores with interest. So, he is looking to do a film quickly for RR Venkat and settle the promise he made six years ago. But, with the busy line up Mahesh has got for the next couple of years, it is going to be very difficult for him to do a film for that banner. It remains to be seen how he comes out of this tricky situation.

That Tollywood Superstar Mahesh Babu is venturing into multiplex business is a known news. In collaboration with Asian Group, one of the leading film distribution companies in Andhra and Telangana, Mahesh Babu is planning to start a multiplex chain with the name AMB Cinemas.

The first multiplex under AMB Cinemas has been constructed in Gachibowli, Hyderabad with state-of-the-art facilities for a better viewing experience. The multiplex was supposed to start operations with Bollywood biggie Thugs of Hindustan. However, due to some unknown reasons, the launch has been postponed further.

Now, it is learnt that the AMB Cinemas will open with Rajinikanth’s magnum opus ‘ 2 Point 0’ which is releasing on November 29th. The Hindi dubbing rights of Ram Charan’s upcoming film with Boyapati Srinu were snapped for a whopping 22 Crores which is the highest for a Telugu film in recent times. The film, titled as Vinaya Vidheya Rama, is billed as a mass commercial potboiler with good dose of action and emotion. As masala entertainers are finding good traction with Hindi audience these days, distributors have shelled out a handsome price for this film.

Also, the makers of Mahesh Babu’s upcoming film Maharshi have closed a hefty deal with a noted North India distributor. Reportedly, the Hindi dubbing rights of Maharshi were sold for 20 Crores. NTR’s latest release Aravindha Sametha also piqued the interest of Hindi distributors as the dubbing rights were bagged for 18 Crores. As Trivikram’s previous film ended as huge disaster, distributors were reluctant to offer beyond 18 Crores and the deal was closed recently.

In terms of Hindi market, Ram Charan is clearly ahead of Mahesh Babu and NTR. While Vinaya Vidheya Rama will hit the screens for Sankranthi, Maharshi is slated for release in Summer.

Mahesh is rethinking about Sukumar’s film as it will take longer to complete. The actor is keen on taking a call after listening to the bound script. For Sukumar, finalizing a line and penning the bound script will take 6-8 months and he needs a year for shoot. In this while, Mahesh can wrap up two films which will prove his box-office potential before he starts shooting for SS Rajamouli’s film. Hence the actor is in rethinking mode and is in hunt for the right options.

The event which was supposed to be held on this 27th has been cancelled due to poor response for tickets from audience there.

Though the organisers are stating that the event was cancelled due to security issues, it is clear that there is no sufficient sale of tickets to go ahead with the plans. It is reliably learnt that poor event management planning is the reason behind the disappointing response from audience.

As MAA team involved in a acrimonious dispute over Chiranjeevi’s event in US earlier this year, they wanted to plan Mahesh Babu’s event with much more care. The association wanted to hire a professional event manager for this event. However, it was Meher Ramesh and a couple of his friends who approached Namrata and assured her to make this event a big success. Trusting them, Namrata gave consent to organise the event even though MAA advised not to do so. But, due to the poor planning by Meher Ramesh’s team, the response for tickets sales is very lukewarm, forcing them to cancel the event. Had there been an experienced event manager, the charity show would have been organised in a grand manner.

Sources say that Namrata is very upset with Meher Ramesh’s shoddy planning and furious over the cancellation of this prestigious event which is a body blow to Mahesh Babu and MAA reputation.

Telugu actor Mahesh Babu was supposed to participate in a fundraising event ‘ An Evening with Superstar’ in New York city on this 27th at Marriott Marquis. This charity event is meant to raise funds for ‘Gramam Foundation’ and ‘Heal a Child’ foundation.

The latest update reveals that the event has been cancelled by the organisers due to lukewarm response. It was expected that nearly 100 NRI families will attend the event. The original ticket price was fixed at $ 2000 per person and was later reduced to $ 1250 due to less response. The price was further reduced to $ 450 to attract families. But, the response is not as the organisers expectations. So, they have cancelled the event. Further details are awaited.
