“Our jendas (flags) may be different but our agenda is common, which is welfare of the people,” TDP president, Nara Chandrababu Naidu, said on Sunday.

Explaining to the huge gathering of people which attended the Boppudi ‘Praja Galam’ (people’s voice) public meeting for which Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is the chief guest, Chandrababu Naidu said that there is no doubt that the NDA is forming the governments both at the Centre and in the State. “No need for any doubts, it is the NDA that is going to form the governments at the Centre and in the State,” Chandrababu Naidu said.

Welcoming Modi to the State on behalf of five crore people of the State, the TDP supremo said that the meeting is a platform to reconstruct the State which will realise the dreams of the people and work for their welfare. Maintaining that the TDP, the Jana Sena and the BJP have joined hands only to take the people’s aims forward, Chandrababu Naidu told the people that the verdict that they are going to give in these elections will decide the future of the State.

Seeking the blessings of the voters for the NDA, the TDP supremo said that Modi is not an individual but a force, who is transforming India into a power that commands the whole world. Modi is a leader whose services are praised by almost all the countries and the schemes like Awas Yojana, Ujwal Yojana and Kisan Samman have given a totally new definition for welfare, he said.

Thanking Jana Sena chief, Pawan Kalyan, for his support, he said that Pawan always yearns for the people’s progress. Observing that Modi wants to build a poverty-free nation, Chandrababu Naidu made an appeal to the people to join hands with him in this endeavour. ChandrababuNaidu felt that this is the right time for Vikasitha Bharat and the whole nation, including the State should stand by Modi to achieve this.

Mr Chandrababu said that Modi has taken the nation to a very high position in the world and soon India will be the number three country in the world in development. “We will be in a commanding position to dictate to even countries like China and the United States,” he felt.

Maintaining that the State has been facing several problems after bifurcation, the TDP supremo said that “we could overcome certain issues but with Jagan in power in the past five years the State again has only moved backward.” Observing that foundation has been laid for Amaravathi and several educational institutions with global standards have also been established besides completing 72 per cent of Polavaram project, he felt that had these been completed the State would have progressed well and would have reached to number one position in the country.

Regretting that this Chief Minister, Jagan Mohan Reddy, has simply looted all the natural resources and turned the State into a ganja hub, the former chief minister said that now the condition of the State is so poor that there are no roads even in many areas. Industrialists have been chased out and unemployment is very high in the State and the people have lost mental peace, he said.

Jagan has polluted politics by filing false cases against several leaders, he said and felt that the State is now in a very bad condition. Jagan’s own sisters are asking the people not to vote for him and one can easily imagine the sad condition of the State, he said. Even the administration part is also not good as almost all the buildings have been mortgaged to raise funds, Chandrababu said and made an appeal to the people to come forward and support the NDA which only can save the State.

Expressing confidence that the NDA is going to win 400 plus seats in the country, Chandrababu Naidu appealed to the people to see to it that the alliance wins all the 25 seats in the State. “We will take the responsibility to reconstruct the State,” Chandrababu Naidu added.

Showering praises on Modi, the TDP supremo said that demonetisation has changed the total facade of the nation and Modi wants to see poverty-free India. This is the right time for Vikasitha Bharat and to achieve Vikasitha Andhra Pradesh.

Jana Sena chief, Pawn Kalyan, on Sunday expressed confidence that it is the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), of which the TDP and the Jana Sena are partners, that is going to form the coming government.

Addressing the Praja Galam (people’s voice) public meeting at Boppudi near Chilakaluripet of which Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is the chief guest along with TDP president, Chandrababu Naidu, the Jana Sena chief said that the arrival of Modi’s visit to the State is a big relief for the State which is now crumbling with deep debts and without any development. Pawan Kalyan told the massive public meeting where a record number of people from all parts of the State gathered that all the five crore people of the State are feeling happy at the three parties, the TDP, the BJP and the Jana Sena, coming together.

Recalling the alliance in 2014 formed at the world famous pilgrim town of Tirupati, Pawan Kalyan said that the alliance was announced then with the blessings of Lord Balaji and now again in 2024 the three parties have come together with the blessings of Goddess Kanakadurga. “My hearty welcome to Modi who is going to create a record by achieving a hatrick and his arrival here has reposed faith among the people of the State that Amaravathi is going to shine again,” he stated.

Teriming Chief Minister, Jagan Mohan Reddy, as a liquor baron, Pawan Kalyan said that Jagan has failed to clear Rs 10,000 cr GST and through JP Ventures, a binami of Jagan, he minted Rs 40,000 cr. Though the State has recorded business transactions of Rs 1.20 lakh cr, the Chief Minister has projected it as a mere Rs 84 cr thus minting such a huge amount of money, he said. “Jagan’s main goal is making money but not to develop the State,” he said.

Regretting that no industry has been set up after Jagan came to power, Pawan Kalyan said that on the other hand those which are existing earlier are running away from here unable to bear the harassment. The percentage of industrial growth in the State in 2014 was 10.4 per cent which is now -3 (minus three) per cent. The State is recording negative growth in this, he said.

Observing that Jagan feels that he can do anything with the huge money that he has, the Jana Sena chief said that Modi, however, is going to establish Rama Rajya here. The Kurukshetra battle has begun, Pawan Kalyan said and called upon the people to support the NDA as ultimately the victory will be that of morality and virtue.

Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan on Saturday wrote a lengthy letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi making several allegations of corruption against the state government. He alleged that the government was swindling huge amounts of money which runs into a few thousand crores of rupees.

Pawan Kalyan said that land acquisition and construction of houses for the poor had come handy for the ruling party leaders to make huge money. He saw a misappropriation of Rs 35,141 crore in the entire issue of land purchase and houses construction. The total project was taken up at Rs 1,75,421 crore, he said of which the government had spent Rs 91,503 crore.

He said that the government launched construction of 30 lakh houses to 29,51,858 women beneficiaries. However, he said only 21,87,985 women were given the house sites, while 28,554.64 acres of government land was taken, and 25,374.66 acres of land was purchased. However, the government is actually constructing 12,09,022 houses, he said.

He further told the prime minister that 51,000 houses were in the court disputes, while another 30,176 beneficiaries were waiting for the government to give them alternative sites in Prakasam and Anantapur districts.

Stating that the government had shown a provision of Rs 23,106.85 crore in the state budget for housing, only Rs 11,358.87 crore were spent in the last five years. However, the Central government released Rs 14,366.08 crore for housing and Rs 1,249.03 crore towards subsidy, he said.

Pawan Kalyan requested the prime minister to initiate investigation into the project with CBI and enforcement directorate, to unearth more details of the scam as thousands of crores of rupees of the government money is involved in the project.

He also requested the prime minister to bring the guilty to the book and initiate steps for recovery of the misappropriated public money.

The Concept of ‘One Nation, One Election’:

The idea of simultaneous elections in India is not new. Independent India had simultaneous elections held in 1951 for State assemblies and the Lok Sabha. This practice continued in subsequent years too but, as states were restructured, and assemblies were prematurely dissolved, the trend faded away in the early 1970s.

The current push for ‘one nation, one election’ gained momentum with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s advocacy for the same. As early as 2016, he proposed the concept of Jamili Elections. While the Indian word “Jamili or Zamili” means paired or coupled, the term ‘Jamili elections’ refers to the concept of “One nation – One Election.” Modi argued that the continuous cycle of elections places a financial burden on the country and disrupts development due to the Model Code of Conduct.

3. Reduced Disruption: Normal government activities are often halted due to the Model Code of Conduct during elections. ‘One nation, one election’ would minimize these disruptions.

Arguments Against ‘One Nation, One Election’:

1. Constitutional Challenges: Critics argue that simultaneous elections require shortening or extending the terms of existing state assemblies. This is nothing but a violation of the Constitution.

2. Federalism Concerns: The idea challenges the federal spirit of the Indian constitution by pressuring state governments to dissolve prematurely, even if they have years remaining in their term.

3. Political Motives: Some believe that the push for ‘one nation, one election’ is politically motivated, with the BJP seeking to capitalize on its current popularity. In addition, many believe that BJP wants to gain in the state elections with this move.

4. Accountability Issues: The simultaneous election model could lead to autocracy as governments might become less accountable to the people with no impending state or local elections. This poses a threat to India’s pluralistic democracy.

Misconceptions About Expenditure: As of now, as per the estimates, ‘Jamili’ elections would cost 4500 crores for all elections, while separate elections for states and Lok Sabha would require around 50,000 crores for an entire 5-year period. However, this saving of 45,000 crores over the period of 5 years is relatively small compared to India’s total annual revenue expenditure of 34 lakh crores.

6. Impact on diversity: Many critics opine that in a country where language changes every 500 km, and cultures shift every 100 km, pluralism and diversity are the lifelines. Ignoring this diversity and trying to bring everything under a single umbrella could be a wrong decision. In addition, this move is seen as an attempt to suppress regional parties.

Conclusion:

The debate surrounding ‘one nation, one election’ is complex and multifaceted. While proponents argue for increased efficiency and better governance, critics raise valid concerns about constitutional, federal, and accountability issues. We need to wait for the report of the committee.

No Confidence Motion on Modi government accepted, what next?

Manipur violence issue is shaking the entire India and opposition parties decided to move a no-confidence motion against the Modi government. Debate going on in political circles about what could happen next in Indian politics. Details are as follows.

Article 118 of the Constitution permits each house of Parliament to make its own rules for the conduct of business. Using this constitutional provision, Lok Sabha formulated Rule 198 which specified the procedure for a motion of no-confidence. Any member may give a written notice; the speaker shall read the motion of no-confidence in the House and ask all those persons to rise who favor that the motion be taken up. If there are 50 MPs in favor, the speaker allows a date for discussing the motion. Using this provision, Congress legislator Gaurav Gogoi, who is from Assam, prior at 9:20 am presented the notification on behalf of the IN.D.I.A group. The main demand is that Modi should answer on the issue of Manipur violence. Speaker Om Birla said that he would announce a date for debate soon after consulting the leaders of all political parties.

However, the fate of this motion can be easily predicted as the numbers are in favor of the Modi government. However, leaders from the opposition party say that the numbers and outcome of the motion are not as important as compelling Modi to speak on Manipur violence. However, Prime Minister Modi already broke his silence on the Manipur issue and said that the incident had “shamed India” and that the attackers wouldn’t be spared. He also urged political parties not to politicize the issue of Manipur and collectively strive for a solution. Even home minister Amit Shah already told the Lok Sabha earlier this week that the government was ready to discuss the issue of Manipur violence.

Trivia of NCM on Modi government:

· This is the second such No confidence motion on the Modi government since NDA came to power in 2014. The first one was moved by TDP on NDA in 2018 for Special category status for AP. It was AP politics that drove the sequence of events leading to the No confidence motion on the Modi government. The war of words between the YSRCP party and Jana Sena chief Pawan in 2018 regarding special category status led to events where Pawan Kalyan challenged Jagan to initiate a No-confidence motion on the Modi government. YSRCP accepted the challenge of Pawan but YSRCP MPs resigned from parliament without initiating NCM. Then TDP initiated a no-confidence motion on the Modi government.

· There is a 5-year-old video that went viral today on social media and in that video, Modi was seen sarcastically asking opposition parties in 2018 to prepare for NCM again in 2023.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Wednesday and urged him to expedite several issues including those related to State bifurcation.

Apart from seeking funds for the construction of new medical colleges, completing Polavaram project and correcting the loopholes in the implementation of National Food Security Act, the Chief Minister also urged the Prime Minister to fulfil the promises given to the residual state of Andhra Pradesh following bifurcation.

Before holding discussions with the Prime Minister for one hour and twenty minutes, the Chief Minister also held a 45-minute meeting with the Home Minister Amit Shah. After meeting the Prime Minister, he also called on Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and discussed various issues related to the State.

In a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister, he appealed to accept the revised estimates of Rs 55,548.87 crore on Polavaram Project and release Rs 17,144 crore on priority basis to expedite the first phase. This includes R and R package for the displaced persons in 36 villages.

Unless the funds for R & R package are released, the first phase remains incomplete, he said, and urged the Prime Minister to issue instructions to the Jala Sakti Ministry to release the amount at the earliest.

He also appealed to reimburse the arrears of Rs 1310.15 crore incurred by the State Government on Polavaram Project.

The Chief Minister appealed to the Prime Minister to take immediate steps to ensure that the Telangana Government clears Rs 7,230.14 crore outstanding from the TS Discoms to APGENCO for the power supplied between 2014 and 2017.

He also told the Prime Minister that the State has been incurring additional financial burden of Rs 5,527 crore on supplying ration to 56 lakh families every year under the PMGKAY due to irrational selection of beneficiaries under National Food Security Act. To compensate for this, the Centre should supply 77,000 metric tons of rice from unused ration stocks of 1 lakh tons every month to AP.

Sources say that the Prime Minister and the chief minister discussed the impending monsoon session of the Parliament. The YSR Congress has emerged as the fourth largest party in the parliament with 25 members in Lok Sabha and 9 members in Rajya Sabha.

The YSR Congress party’s support, thus, had become very crucial for the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre to get the bills passed.

The opposition parties have held a meeting recently in Patna, where they have chalked out the strategy for the impending monsoon session of the Parliament. The opposition parties are likely to stand together to oppose the BJP-led NDA government in both the houses of parliament.

In this backdrop, the prime minister is said to have requested Jagan Mohan Reddy to support the government in the parliament. Quite interestingly, the YSR Congress had been a trusted friend of the NDA for the past four years. The YSR Congress had rushed to the aid of the NDA government whenever it required.

Sources say that this time too, the YSR Congress would support the NDA government in getting the bills passed. The NDA government is planning to table the Uniform Civil Code Bill and the National Capital Civil Services Bill.

These two bills are being opposed by the Congress-led opposition parties and it is to be seen how far the YSR Congress would be helpful to the NDA in getting the bills passed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that the new Parliament building is a reflection of the aspirations and dreams of 140 crore Indians and this temple of democracy gives the message of India’s determination to the world.

He also said that democracy is not just a system for us, it is a culture, an idea, a tradition.

Making his first speech in the new Parliament, which he inaugurated earlier in the day, Modi said: “In every country’s development, there are moments like these which becomes historic. And when India is celebrating ‘Azadi ka Amrit Kaal’, the people of India have gifted its democracy a new Parliament House.”

The Prime Minister also released a stamp and Rs 75 coin in the new Parliament.

Modi said: “This is not just a building. It is a reflection of the aspirations and dreams of 140 crore Indians. This is the temple of our democracy giving the message of India’s determination to the world. The new Parliament building will be a testament to the dawn of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India). It will be a witness to our journey towards a Viksit Bharat (developed India).”

The event was also attended by former president Ram Nath Kovind, Chief Ministers Y.S. Jagan Reddy, Yogi Adityanath, Eknath Shinde and many others. Even foreign envoys, Parliamentarians and people from different walks of life attended the inauguration ceremony.

The Prime MInister underlined that India is not only a democratic country but also the mother of democracy. “India is also a big base of global democracy today. Democracy is not just a system for us, it is a culture, an idea, a tradition,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister said that when India moves forward, then the world moves forward. “This new Parliament will also lead to the development of the world through the development of India. It is our good fortune that we have been able to restore the pride of the holy ‘Sengol’. Whenever proceedings start in this House, the ‘Sengol’ will inspire us,” Modi said.

Commenting on the installation of ‘Sengol’ in the Lok Sabha chamber, Modi said, “On this historic day, in this new building of Parliament, pious ‘Sengol’ has been established. In the Chola empire, it was considered a symbol of the Kartavya path, Seva Path and Rashtra path,” he said.

Modi also said that our democracy is our inspiration, our Constitution is our resolve. “The best representative of this inspiration, this resolution, is our Parliament,” he said.

The Prime Minister further said that this new building will become a means of realising the dreams of our freedom fighters. “This new building will witness the sunrise of a self-reliant India. This new building will see the fulfilment of the resolutions of a developed India. This new building is also a perfect example of the coexistence of the new and the old,” he said.

The Prime Minister in his address also pointed out how several years of foreign rule stole our pride from us and said that today, India has left behind that colonial mindset.

“There was a need for new Parliament. We also have to see that the number of seats and MPs will increase in the coming time. That’s why it was need of the hour that a new Parliament is made,” Modi said.

He said that it was difficult to fulfil work in the old Parliament building and everyone is aware of it. “There was a scarcity of seating space and there were also technology issues. Therefore, for over two decades, discussions were going on for building a new Parliament building…It was the need of the hour to build the new building of the Parliament. I’m happy that this new grand building is replete with modern facilities,” he said.

Modi further said that after 25 years from today, India will complete 100 years of its Independence. “We also have the nectar period of 25 years. Together we have to make India a developed nation in these 25 years. It is the time of immortality to fulfil infinite dreams and innumerable aspirations,” he remarked.

He also said that this building is equipped with modern facilities and equipped with the latest gadgets. “It has given employment to over 60,000 labourers. We have created a digital gallery to honour their hard work,” Modi said.

He further added that new India today is setting new goals, forging new paths. “There is new enthusiasm, there is new enthusiasm. New journey, new thinking. The direction is new, the vision is new. The resolution is new, the faith is new,” Modi added.

Twenty opposition parties have boycotted the inauguration of the new Parliament building accusing the BJP of not inviting President Droupadi Murmu and citing it as an insult to the first citizen of the country.

Meanwhile, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi described Parliament as the voice of the people and slammed the Prime Minister for inaugurating the new Parliament House building saying that he is considering the inauguration as a coronation.

AP Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had decided to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi in inaugurating the new Parliament building in Delhi on May 28. Jagan Mohan Reddy tweeted congratulating the Prime Minister for constructing the new building and getting ready to dedicate it to the nation.

While 19 opposition parties have opposed the prime minister inaugurating the Parliament building ignoring President Draupadi Murmu, Jagan Mohan Reddy made an appeal to the opposition parties to come together and support the Prime Minister.

“I congratulate @narendramodi ji for dedicating the grand, majestic and spacious Parliament building to the nation. Parliament, being the temple of democracy, reflects our nation’s soul and belongs to the people of our country and all the political parties. Boycotting such an auspicious event is not in the true spirit of democracy.”

“Setting aside all political differences, I request that all political parties attend this glorious event. In the true spirit of democracy, my party will attend this historic event” Jagan Mohan Reddy said in his twitter handle.

Jagan Mohan Reddy had also asked his party MPs, from both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, to attend the event and congratulate the Prime Minister after the inauguration.

Jagan Mohan Reddy is scheduled to be in Delhi on May 27 to attend the general council meeting of the NITI Aayog. However, it is not known whether he would stay back and attend the Parliament building inauguration or not.

The TDP, on its part, had neither joined the opposition parties in boycotting the inauguration or supporting the Prime Minister. The TDP MPs would be busy attending the party’s Mahanadu event at Rajamahendravaram on the day.

AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday demanded to know from Prime Minister Narendra Modi if Rs 500 currency notes will also be withdrawn.

The Hyderabad MP took to Twitter to pose five questions to PM Modi, a day after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced that it is withdrawing the highest value currency note, Rs 2,000 from circulation.

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief posed the questions with a taunt. “Five questions to Top Economist PM Modi,” he wrote.

“Why did you introduce the Rs 2,000 note in the first place? 2. Can we expect 500 note to be withdrawn soon? 3. 70 crore Indians don’t have a smart phone, how do they do digital payment?,” tweeted Owaisi.

The Rs 2,000 currency note was introduced in November 2016, when Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes were withdrawn.

Owaisi also wanted to know what is the role of Bill Gates owned Better Than Cash Alliance in making PM Modi go for demonetisation.

“Is NPCI being hacked by Chinese hackers? If so, what will happen to payments when war happens?” asked Owaisi.

TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu had finally broken his silence on his relations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that he is ready to work with the Prime Minister in the Vision 2047 of Narendra Modi for the development of the nation.

Chandrababu Naidu’s interaction with the Republic news channel gave him a chance to review the policies and programmes of Narendra Modi and the BJP-led NDA government. He endorsed the policies of the BJP as they help in making India a strong country in the world.

When asked whether he had any regrets on breaking alliance with the BJP in 2018, Chandrababu Naidu said that it was the decision taken on the larger interests and sentiments of the people of Andhra Pradesh. The difference with the BJP was on non-implementation of the bifurcation issue, particularly, the special category status and not on the policies of the NDA government.

Chandrababu Naidu had used the interview to make his stand clear on his approach towards development of the country. “Politics and development are not the same. We can keep politics aside for some time to develop the country,” Chandrababu Naidu said, making his vision clear.

The TDP chief had tried to cement the relations between the TDP and the BJP with his interview. His open statement that he is ready to work with Narendra Modi would help in bringing the two parties together in the Telugu states.

The BJP would benefit from the TDP’s alliance in Telangana while the TDP would get the benefit from the alliance with the BJP in Andhra Pradesh. It is to be seen how the BJP leadership would take this in its next political move.

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao on Sunday challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to name a state that has performed better all-round than Telangana in the last 9 years.

A day after Modi addressed a public meeting in Hyderabad, Rama Rao took to Twitter to throw the challenge.

Listing out the achievements of Telangana, KTR said that despite all this the Prime minister had not a single word of appreciation.

The BRS leader alleged that the Prime Minister has refused to acknowledge a performing state for petty politics.

KTR claimed that Telangana had the highest per capita growth in India. It is the first state to provide drinking water to all homes.

He pointed out that Telangana completed the world’s largest lift irrigation project and has the best rural development model in India with 100 per cent Open Defecation Free (ODF) plus villages. Telangana is the second highest paddy producer in India and also the highest number of IT jobs creating state in India.

KTR claimed Telangana has the highest green cover growth of 7.7 per cent in India. It also won the second highest number of awards (26) for municipalities in India.

The minister for industry and information technology also pointed out that Telangana is among top 4 contributing states to Indian GDP. It is a top 3 ranked state in Ease of Doing Business.

He claimed that Telangana also has the best industrial policy in India. It is home to India’s largest textile park – Kakatiya Mega Textile Park (KMTP).

The state is also the vaccine hub of the world and has highest per capita power consumption in India. It is the second largest renewable energy producer in India.

Telangana has one of the lowest Debt – GSDP ratio in India. “Hyderabad is rated by Mercer the Best Indian city 5 years in a row: 2015-20,” he wrote.

The BRS leader stated that Telangana has lowest corruption in India as per latest survey of Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS). The state also won many international accolades.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday flagged off the Secunderabad-Tirupati Vande Bharat Express train in Hyderabad.

The train wil have regular services from April 9 onwards. It will have services for six days a week and bookings have commenced from April 8.

Train no 20702 Tirupati- Secunderabad Vande Bharat Express will commence journey from Tirupati railway station at 15.15 hrs and reach Secunderabad at 23.45. Train no 20701 will start from Secunderabad at 0600 hrs and reach Tirupati at 1430 hrs. The train will stop at Nalgonda, Guntur, Ongole and Nellore stations.

This will be the fastest train service between the two stations and will have seven ordinary AC coaches and one executive AC Coach. The seating capacity of each train is 530.

The Vande Bharat Express will also have an executive AC coach.

PM Modi to visit Hyderabad on April 8, Telangana BJP upbeat

The BJP’s preparations for Telangana Assembly elections scheduled later this year are likely to get a boost with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Hyderabad on April 8 during which he is expected to address a public meeting and launch various development projects.

The BJP leaders expect that PM Modi’s visit will boost their morale in the runup to the Assembly elections. The party expects that he will set the tone for the party’s poll campaign.

The Prime Minister is expected to launch an attack on Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government for its various acts of omissions and commissions.

PM Modi is likely to target BRS and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao over corruption, especially in the wake of questioning of his daughter K. Kavitha by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the Delhi liquor policy scam.

He is also likely to hit out at the BRS government over the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) paper leak, which has heated up the state politics.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also taken up state-wide protests over the paper leak, alleging involvement of KCR’s son and state minister K.T. Rama Rao.

The Telangana unit of the BJP has huge expectations from PM Modi’s visit in view of his recent statement about the state.

“In the south, we have always been strong in Karnataka and in Telangana, people now have confidence only in one party, BJP, and in Andhra Pradesh also people are looking towards us,” Modi had said on March 28 while inaugurating the residential complex of the party in Delhi.

Modi will be launching various railway projects at Secunderabad Railway Station and later a public meeting at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad.

Union Minister for Tourism and Culture G. Kishan Reddy along with state BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar and party MP K. Laxman on Tuesday visited Secunderabad Railway Station and Parade Grounds to take stock of the preparations for the Prime Minister’s visit.

Kishan Reddy, who is also an MP from Secunderabad, said the PM would lay the foundation stone for the re-development of Secunderabad Railway Station. The station is being revamped at a cost of Rs 719 crore and will provide world-class railway infrastructure and amenities.

He will also lay the foundation stone of the new block of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) at a cost of Rs 1,336 crore.

Kishan Reddy said this would give a big boost to health infrastructure in Telangana. The expansion and new facilities include academic blocks, auditorium, staff quarters, hostels and guest houses. The hospital block renovation is also underway.

Meanwhile, Telangana Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari on Tuesday reviewed arrangements for PM Modi’s visit. She instructed the officials to make foolproof arrangements.

Presiding over a coordination meeting, she said that all the departments have to work in close coordination and make the brief visit of the Prime Minister a success.

The police have to make adequate security arrangements, law and order, traffic and bandobast arrangements as per the blue book.

The fire department was asked to arrange adequate fire fighting equipment and fire tenders should be positioned at the venue. Medical staff, ambulances and other facilities should be kept ready at all the venues.

The Chief Secretary asked officials to repair roads to be used by the Prime Minister’s convoy. Uninterrupted power supply at all the venues should be ensured, she said.

DGP Anjani Kumar, senior police officers and officials from various departments including railways attended the meeting.

Setting aside his political differences, Telangana Chief Minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) President K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday condemned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from Parliament, calling it the height of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “arrogance and dictatorship”.

“Today is black day in the history of Indian democracy.A Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from Parliament is the height of Narendra Modi’s arrogance and dictatorship,” KCR, as the leader is popularly known, said in a statement.

“It is highly reproachable that the Modi government is not only abusing constitutional institutions but also using the highest democratic platform – the Parliament for its nefarious activities,” he said.

KCR observed that it is the adverse time for democracy and the Constitutional values. “The Modi’s regime overshadowed the Emergency. Harassment of opposition leaders has become a routine. Modi on his own is collapsing by disqualifying opposition leaders to protect criminals and cheaters,” he said.

Stating that this is not the time for conflicts between parties, KCR said all democrats should openly condemn the misdeeds of the BJP government to safeguard the democracy and constitutional values in the country and must resist the BJP’s evil policies.

BRS Working President and state minister K.T. Rama Rao said disqualification of Rahul Gandhi is a blatant misinterpretation of the Constitution. “The hastiness showed in this issue is highly undemocratic I condemn this,” he tweeted.

BRS MLA K. Kavitha stated that revoking the membership of Rahul Gandhi, despite knowing that he has a chance to appeal in the upper courts, is a blot on democracy. “This is a larger part of Modi Ji’s mission of diverting people’s attention from his failures, corrupt friends & suppressing the opposition,” she said.

BRS questions PM over fuel prices, BJP hits back

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K.T. Rama Rao on Monday asked a “straight question” to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay on skyrocketing fuel prices despite crude oil price dropping in the international market.

Rama Rao said that in May 2014 when crude per barrel was $107, petrol price was Rs 71 per litre but in March 2023 when crude oil per barrel is $65, the price of petrol is Rs 110 per litre.

“If fuel prices had to be hiked when price of crude oil went up, should they also not be brought down when prices drop? Who is benefiting from the hike,” asked KTR, as the BRS leader is popularly known.

KTR, who is also a state minister, took to Twitter to pose the question to the PM. “To those who want petroleum products to be brought under GST to curb Fuel Price Hike; LPG is already under GST. But the price increased from Rs 400 to Rs 1200 in 8 years,” he said.

He asked how can a “Non-performing Alliance (NPA)” that cannot control LPG cylinder prices be entrusted with petroleum products?

Telangana BJP president Bandi Sanjay hit back at KTR.

He tweeted that BRS is a party of bald-faced liars, people will not believe anything that KTR says anymore because KCR is not reducing VAT.

“Telangana people are forced to pay one of the highest rate for Petrol in India Rs 109.66/litre which is downright loot. In BJP ruled state UP it costs Rs 96.57/litre,” Sanjay said.

The BJP leader said that VAT on petrol and diesel in Telangana is 35.2 per cent and 26 per cent, respectively, while in UP, it is 26.8 and 17.48 per cent.

Sanjay said that the Narendra Modi government cut central excise duty twice – in May 2022 and November 2021 – amounting cumulatively to Rs 13 per litre of petrol and Rs 15 per litre on diesel, at a cost of Rs 2.2 lakh crore a year to the Central exchequer. Prices of petrol & diesel in India (New Delhi) have declined by 5 per cent and 3.71 per cent, respectively between March 2022 & March 2023. These prices have gone up by 38 per cent and 104.02 per cent in Sri Lanka, 22 per cent and 45.16 per cent in Pakistan, 28 per cent and 20.23 per cent in Bangladesh and 22 per cent and 36.09 per cent in Nepal, he said.

“Their fabricated lies cannot conceal the fact that Global energy analysts and commentators are astonished at the fact that India, despite the sheer scale of its population – 50 lakh LPG cylinders are delivered by OMCs and 6 crore consumers visit OMC petrol pumps every day – has managed to ensure accessible and affordable energy to 1.4 billion people at a time when its immediate neighbourhood is facing dry-outs and massive price hikes, ” said the BJP leader.

He also claimed that the BJP-led Central government even imposed an export cess and windfall tax on domestically produced petroleum products year to prevent exporters from profiteering at the cost of domestic consumers.

“Oil Marketing Companies incurred huge losses during price peaks for ensuring the supply of petrol and diesel at controlled rates to Indian citizens, which have been kept unchanged by public sector OMCs since 6th April 2022. Inspired by PM Modi’s decisive consumer-welfare gesture, many state governments reduced VAT except Telangana. Instead of trying weary old tactic of spreading lies, the BRS should cut VAT in the best interest of the people,” Sanjay added.
