Can Jagan afford to fight against Modi like KCR?

1

As of now, Andhra Pradesh is in a deeper political and economic crisis than ever before. The present Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy is not in a position to question either Telangana or the Central government on any issue. He almost surrendered Andhra interests at the feet of Telangana CM Chandrasekhara Rao. Because of his CBI cases, he also has to show an equal obedience before the Modi-Shah duo. But KCR is not on talking terms with Modi because of BJP’s aggressive plan to oust and replace him.

Amid these developments, Jagan is going to meet KCR obviously in Hyderabad soon. For the first time, the two friendly CMs are going to discuss the Centre’s partisan and biased approach against Telugu States. KCR can freely agitate against Modi Circar as Telangana is not heavily dependent on Centre. It has got all advantages politically and economically at the time of reorganisation. Can Jagan afford to antagonise Modi?

AP has no Capital City of its own. Even Amaravati is being crushed in every possible. Its revenues are falling down. ‘Navaratnalu’ are become a huge burden. Clearly, Andhra is heavily dependent on Central funds. Jagan expected Modi to financially support his Cash Transfer Welfare programmes. There is no support so far. The coming KCR-Jagan is raising lot of political curiosity. Analysts say that KCR is sure to cast his spell on Jagan and create differences between Centre and AP that will hurt Andhra only eventually.

Is KCR blaming Modi’s policies for recession?

0

In his budget speech in the Assembly, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao made all-out, desperate efforts to show Modi Regime in bad light. He blamed the country’s economic slowdown for Telangana’s bad finances leading to lesser budget allocations this year. KCR tried hard to cover up the negative impact his regime’s Mission Kakatiya and massive welfare programmes left on the state as a whole.

KCR told Assembly that recession is hitting economy in the past one and half years as GDP came down from 8 per cent to 5 per cent. This is as per the Centre’s figures. KCR said that India’s key growth sectors are badly hit. The car companies brought down manufacturing by 33 per cent while sales went down by over 10 per cent.

Analysts say that the TRS obviously used his budget speech as a good opportunity to attack the BJP. Since the last general election, he was maintaining distance from the Modi-Shah duo.

KCR told the Assembly that the Centre’s policies would usually give a direction to the country’s economy while an individual state government like Telangana has no choice but to follow in the footsteps of the Union government. KCR expressed his misfortune of having to present Telangana budget amid such bad economic situation.

Stay steady, our best yet to come: Modi to ISRO scientists

0

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday addressed the scientists of ISRO, hours after the much-anticipated Vikram lander lost signal moments before its moon landing. Boosting the morale of Team Chandrayaan-2, he inspired them to march on, saying: “You came as close as you could. Stay steady and look ahead.”

He said every person was aware of the amount of disappointment they were feeling following the setback. Modi said if a poet was to write about this, he would mention: “Chandrayaan rushed towards Chandra Maa to hug her…” which drew a loud applause from the audience.

Minutes later, the Prime Minister was seen hugging and consoling ISRO Chairman K. Sivan, who literally burst into tears as Modi was about to leave.

Addressing the scientists as “exceptional professionals” whom the nation and the world at large stands by, Modi said: “True to your nature you ventured into a a place where no one has gone before.

“To our scientists, I want to say ‘India is with you’. You are exceptional professionals who have made an incredible contribution to the nation’s progress. You have given your best always, and will give us several more opportunities to smile about,” Modi said.

“Our determination to get closer to Moon today, has just got stronger,” the Prime Minister said.

Modi said the entire nation was awake in solidarity because the scientists had embarked on one of the most ambitious missions of the space programme. “We came very close but we will need to cover more ground in the times to come”, he said.

“Every Indian is filled with pride as well as confidence. We are proud of our space programme and scientists… their hard work and determination,” he added.

“Resilience and tenacity are central to India’s ethos. In our glorious history of thousands of years, we have bounced back again and again and gone on to do spectacular things. This is the why our civilization stands tall,” Modi said.

“When it comes to our space programmes, the best is yet to come,” again drawing a loud applause.

Modi said there are new frontiers to discover and new places to go. “We will rise to the occasion and scale new heights of success.”

He once again reiterated the pride the nation felt at Indian Space Research Organisation’s ambitious attempt to make the Chandrayaan-2 mission a success.

Following the Rs 978-crore-rupees Chandrayaan-2 mission’s apparent temporary setback with the Vikram lander losing communication minutes before touching down on the lunar surface, Modi said: “I could read your disappointment when you lost signal with the lander.”

Modi, who was present at the ISTRAC here in the early hours of Saturday, interacted with the ISRO scientists after the mood in the control room became all gloomy as soon as signals stopped arriving from Vikram.

Patting Sivan’s back, the Prime Minister said: “Whatever you all have done today is no mean feat. I am with you. Be courageous.”

Communication with moon lander Vikram was lost as it was descending towards the Moon earlier in the day. The link was lost as the lander was at an altitude of 2.1 km over the moon’s South Pole where it was due to land, Sivan said.

ISRO chief breaks down, Modi hugs, consoles him

0

Years of hard work literally came to naught for ISRO on Saturday after it lost communication with Moon lander Vikram, and no amount of words could put it right for the scientists at ISTRAC here.

Despite a motivational speech by none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had rushed in to watch the mission’s success late last night and then again was with the Team Chandrayaan-2 to speak to them, ISRO Chairman K. Sivan could not hold his tears and broke down as the PM was about to leave.

In a very visible emotional outburst, Sivan was seen in tears. Modi who was being accompanied by the scientist on his way out, immediately hugged him and held him. Words were exchanged as a disturbed and disappointed Sivan took time to gain his composure.

Economic recession begins to bother Modi Regime

0

The world countries are under threat of a severe global economic crisis in the coming months. The trade war between America and China is expected to worsen the situation further. However, India is confident of escaping from its impact by taking efficient steps. Despite this, the Modi government is already feeling the pinch of economic slowdown. India’s growth rate fell to a steep 2.1 per cent in July this year when compared to 7.2 per cent in the corresponding month in 2018.

The Centre has initiated preventive measures by reducing interest rates on loans, etc. The government is hopeful of India not feeling major impact of global recession. However, the Modi Circar has received a big shock due to a fall in the GST collections in the country.

Reports say that GST collections are just Rs. 98,202 cr as against Rs. 1.02 lakh cr in July. The industry is looking for reductions in GST for manufacturing sector to overcome the crisis. If the country is to meet the revenue targets, the GST collections should go above Rs. 1 lakh crore every month. This year, less than Rs. 1 lakh cr GST was collected twice, which is being termed as alarming for the country’s economy.

Will meet Modi in France, do best on Kashmir: Trump

After speaking with the leaders of India and Pakistan and urging them to reduce tensions over Kashmir, US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he would be meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the weekend at the G7 in France, and he would do his best to mediate in the issue.

Addressing reporters in the White House, President Trump said: “Kashmir is a very complicated place. You have the Hindus, and you have the Muslims, and I wouldn’t say they get along so great. And that’s what you have right now.”

“And you have millions of people who want to be ruled by others, and maybe on both sides, and you have two countries that haven’t gotten along in a long time.

“And frankly it’s a very explosive situation. I spoke to Prime Minister Khan, and yesterday I spoke to PM Modi; and they are both friends of mine, and they are great people, they’re great people. And they love their countries, and they are in a very tough situation.

“Kashmir is a very tough situation, and this has been going on for decades, and decades; shooting, and I don’t mean shooting like shooting a rifle, but major shooting of howitzers, of heavy arms, and this has been going on for a long, long period of time.

“But I get along really well with both of them, As you know Prime Minister Khan was here just recently.

“And I’m going to meet Prime Minister Modi, I will be with PM Modi over the weekend, in France.

“And I think we’re helping the situation, but there’s tremendous problems between the two countries. And I will do the best I can to mediate or do something,” he said.

On Monday, Trump spoke on the phone with his “two good friends” Prime Ministers Narendra Modi of India and Pakistan’s Imran Khan and urged them to work towards reducing tensions over Kashmir. He also advised Pakistan to “moderate its rhetoric with India” over Kashmir.

“Spoke to my two good friends, Prime Minister Modi of India, and Prime Minister Khan of Pakistan, regarding Trade, Strategic Partnerships and, most importantly, for India and Pakistan to work towards reducing tensions in Kashmir. A tough situation, but good conversations!,” he tweeted.

Earlier, Trump first called up Modi on Monday during which they held a 30-minute talk.

Prime Minister Modi conveyed that “extreme rhetoric and incitement to anti-India violence by certain leaders in the region was not conducive to peace”, in a reference to the Pakistani leadership spewing anti-India venom over the Kashmir issue.

A White House readout of his talk with Imran Khan said, “PresidentATrumpAspoke by telephone with Imran Khan to discuss the need to reduce tensions and moderate rhetoric with India over the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Trump reaffirmed the need to avoid escalation of the situation, and urged restraint on both sides. The two leaders also agreed to work together to strengthen United States-Pakistan economic and trade cooperation.”

Modi calls up Trump, raises Pak’s anti-India rhetoric

0

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday spoke with US President Donald Trump on phone and conveyed that “extreme rhetoric and incitement to anti-India violence by certain leaders in the region was not conducive to peace”, in an obvious reference to the Pakistani leadership spewing anti-India venom over the Kashmir issue.

Days after the UN Security Council backed India in its efforts to bring in development in Kashmir after revoking its special status, Modi held a 30-minute call with Trump on Monday.

During the call, the two leaders covered bilateral and regional matters. The phone call was marked by the warmth and cordiality which characterises the relations between the two leaders, an MEA statement said.

The Prime Minister recalled their meeting in Japan’s Osaka on the margins of G-20 summit in end-June earlier this year.

Referring to their bilateral discussions in Osaka, he expressed the hope that the Commerce Minister of India and the US Trade Representative would meet at an early date to discuss bilateral trade prospects for mutual benefit.

In the context of the regional situation, Modi told Trump that the extreme rhetoric and incitement to anti-India violence by certain leaders in the region was not conducive to peace.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has been regularly taking to Twitter to attack Modi, calling him a fascist and racist. Imran Khan has also been alleging that Modi is turning India into a Hindu supremacist country and that Muslims in India were being disenfranchised and “RSS goons were on the rampage”.

In his telephone call, PM Modi highlighted the importance of creating an environment free from terror and violence and eschewing cross-border terrorism without exception, the statement said.

Modi reiterated India’s commitment to cooperate with anyone who followed this path, in fighting poverty, illiteracy and disease.

Recalling that Monday marked 100 years of the Independence of Afghanistan, he reiterated India’s longstanding and unwavering commitment to work for a united, secure, democratic and truly independent Afghanistan, the statement said.

India to have Chief of Defence Staff: PM Modi

0

In a major move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday announced the creation of a Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) post, a long-pending recommendation of various committees on defence.

Addressing the nation from the Red Fort on Independence Day, Modi said: “Our armed forces are the pride of the nation. To further sharpen coordination between all three forces, India will have a Chief of Defence Staff – CDS. This is going to make the forces even more effective. The new CDS post will oversee all the three wings of the armed forces.”

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh welcomed the announcement, tweeting: “The Institution of CDS by PM Modi has been made keeping in view the much needed reform to streamline and further improve the coordination among the 3 forces and their functioning.”

“CDS will have a long lasting and a positive impact on India’s security,” Singh posted.

The creation of a CDS post had been a major recommendation of the Kargil Review Committee — of integration of the three services Army, Navy and Air Force under a Chief of Defence Staff. However, no concrete action was taken on this.

The government appointed Lt Gen D.B. Shekatkar (Retd) as head of a 11-member committee to recommend measures to enhance the combat capability of the armed forces and rebalance defence expenditure.

The committee suggested a four-star Chief of Defence Staff as the chief military adviser to the Defence Minister.

The Prime Minister’s announcement was welcomed by former military General Ved Prakash Malik, who was the Army chief during the Kargil war.

“Thank you PM Modi for announcing a historic step of institution of CDS. This step will make our national security more effective and more economical. It will ensure better jointmanship and multi-disciplinary coordination. Salute,” he tweeted.

There is no bigger decision than Kashmir: PM Modi

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing 75 days today in his second avatar as the nation’s helmsman, he speaks extensively to IANS on his priorities going forward and also touches upon various sensitive issues varying from Jammu & Kashmir, medical reforms, criticality of education to taking the knife to the tumor of corruption within the bureaucracy. In an extensive conversation with IANS Editor-in-Chief Sandeep Bamzai, the Prime Minister walks him through the most contentious issues facing India and his remedies for the maladies.

You complete 75 days of your government today. Every government passes through such milestone numbers and talks about steps taken. Why should we think your government is any different?

We have set an unprecedented pace within just the first few days of our government. What we have been able to achieve is the result of ‘Spasht Neeti, Sahi Disha (Right Intentions, Clear Policy)’. In just the first 75 days of our government, a lot has happened. From children’s safety to Chandrayaan-II, from action against corruption to freeing Muslim women from the scourge of Triple Talaq, from Kashmir to Kisan, we have shown what a resolute government with a strong mandate of the people can achieve. We have taken a head-start in tackling the most pressing issue of our times, with the formation of Jal Shakti Ministry for a mission mode and integrated approach to improve water supply and augment water conservation.

Did the unprecedented mandate help you firm up your commitment to the people of India with an unstinting resolve that reform has to percolate down? And you have used your political heft by going beyond the executive and using the mandate in the legislature?

In a way, it is also the result of the government coming back with a stronger mandate. What we were able to achieve in the first 75 days was the outcome of the robust base we were able to build in the last 5 years. Hundreds of reforms in the last 5 years have ensured the country is now ready to take off, powered by the aspirations of the people. The first session of the 17th Lok Sabha has been a record-creating one – it was the most productive session since 1952. This is not a minor achievement but, in my view, a historic turn for the better and one which will make our Parliament much more responsive to the needs and aspirations of the people. Many momentous initiatives have been taken such as pension schemes for farmers and traders, reform of the medical sector, important amendments in the Insolvency and Bankruptcy code, beginning of labour reforms I could go on and on. But the gist of the matter is that when the intentions are right, there is clarity of purpose and implementation, and there is people’s support, then there’s no limit to what we can do.

There has been some noise on the medical reforms front from various quarters. Do you think the changes you have brought in are well thought through?

When we formed the government in 2014, there were many concerns about the existing system of medical education. Earlier, courts have used strong words for the institution overseeing medical education in India, calling it a “den of corruption”. A parliamentary committee did rigorous study and took a very dull view of the state of affairs in medical education. It pointed out mismanagement, lack of transparency and arbitrariness.
te
Earlier governments too had given a thought to reforming this sector but could not go through with it. We decided to go through with it because this is not a matter that can be taken lightly, as it concerns the health of our people and future of our youth. So, we set up an expert group to look into what is plaguing it. The expert group studied the system carefully and brought out the problems and improvement areas. It is based on the suggestions from experts that we came to the current bill.

Why is there so much hullabaloo about the bill then?

The National Medical Commission is a far-reaching reform in this space and seeks to correct the prevalent problems. It contains multiple reforms that curb avenues of corruption and boost transparency. At a time when nations are looking at India to power the next wave of growth in the world, we realise that this can happen only with a healthy populace. Freeing the poor from the vicious cycle of poverty that lack of health perpetuates is very important. The NMC serves this purpose well too. It will ensure transparency, accountability and quality in the governance of medical education in the country. It aims to lessen the burden on students, increase the number of medical seats and reduce cost of medical education. This means more talented youth can take up medicine as a profession and this will help us increase the number of medical professionals.

Ayushman Bharat is bringing about a revolution in the healthcare sector. It is increasing awareness as well as affordability of quality healthcare, especially in tier-2 and tier-3 towns. We are also working to ensure that there is at least one medical college between every 3 districts. With rising awareness about healthcare, rising incomes and greater focus on aspirational goals among people, we will need thousands and thousands of doctors to fulfil the demand, especially in rural and rurban areas. The NMC seeks to address these issues for a better outcome for all stakeholders. You must have also read that the academic year 2019-20 will see the biggest addition of medical seats in government colleges in a single year with the creation of around 2 dozen new government medical colleges. Our roadmap is clear ? a transparent, accessible and affordable medical education system leading to better healthcare outcomes.

Education is critical for a young nation. However, in the conversations surrounding your government, education seems missing. What is the government doing on this?

Education is not just critical but the most important component in the overall spectrum of skilled human resource for a technology-oriented, inclusive, people-centric and people-driven growth model. It not only has to the potential to positively transform lives but also has a bearing on the future of the nation.

We are working on all aspects of education. At the school level, special focus is being paid to improving quality of education, improving learning outcomes, giving a boost to innovation and scientific temper, improving infrastructure, using technology to improve understanding among the students. We are trying to leverage technology like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning to improve school education.

In higher education, we are constantly striving to increase seats, increase presence of premier institutions across the country, give more autonomy to institutions, and while boosting research and innovation. We set up a Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA) with an aim to provide funds upto Rs one lakh crore by 2022. Rs 21,000 crore has already been sanctioned till now. 60 Higher Educational Institutions, including 52 Universities have been granted autonomy. These universities will remain within the ambit of UGC but will have the freedom to start new courses, off campus centres, skill development courses, research parks and any other new academic programs. They will also have the freedom to hire foreign faculty, enrol foreign students, give incentive-based emoluments to the faculty, enter into academic collaborations and run open distance learning programmes.

Progress has been also made in taking forward the mission of National Education Policy. The first draft of National Education Policy (NEP) got lakhs of inputs and suggestions right from the block and panchayat level. Looking at the response and the interest of various stakeholders, the committee went for another round of consultations.

The latest draft of the Education Policy, drawn after such extensive consultations, has again been put in the public domain for a final round of inputs. All stakeholders in education the states, parents, teachers, students, counselors, have been heard a multiple number of times. Our focus is that the National Education Policy should be driven by educationists, experts and stakeholders so that it does not remain a policy but is adopted in practice at the earliest. India with its huge demographic dividend, has the potential to become a leading knowledge economy in the world.

A couple of important decisions related to corruption sent shock waves in the bureaucracy what message were you intending to send?

Since India’s independence, one of the biggest things holding us back was corruption. Corruption spared no one, neither the rich nor the poor. People resorted to corruption either due to some greed or to make a quick buck or due to some compulsion. But even these people wanted corruption to stop. The question in everyone’s mind was that who will start the fight against corruption and from where. The fight against corruption always had the support of people, media, institutions, because everyone agreed that corruption was a major obstacle in India’s development journey. And this was not only an issue related to money. Corruption eroded trust in the society, be it a government office or the market. A person going to the police station would think whether he will get justice and similarly a person buying something from the market will fear adulteration.

We decided, right from day one, to attack the menace of corruption. Someone had to make a start somewhere, we decided to do this, without caring for political consequences. The results show that we are succeeding. Not only is corruption coming down, but trust in society is increasing. The number of people filing income tax returns almost doubled in the last 5 years. We have systematically clamped down on corruption and made tax filing and refund process online. Already, refunds are being credited directly to bank accounts of income-tax payers, without any human intervention.

Going a few steps further, we aim to make faceless assessment of income tax return a reality. This would be a game-changer in ushering a new era of transparency in the tax system. We are firm in our commitment that neither will we allow corruption nor will we tolerate any form of undue harassment. Hence, we took tough steps and compulsorily retired some tax officials in the last few weeks. In the previous term also, hundreds of government officials were removed from service when there were reasons to do so. We have also leveraged the power of technology through DBT which has resulted in a savings of more than Rs 1.4 lakh crore.

Your decision on Article 370 has been welcomed by many and also been opposed by a few. There seems to be an uneasy calm at the moment. Why do you think the people of J&K will stand with you?

Please see the list of people who have opposed the decisions about Kashmir- the usual vested interest groups, political dynasties, those who sympathise with terror and some friends in the Opposition.

The people of India, irrespective of what their political preference is, have supported the steps taken in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. This is about the nation, not politics. The people of India are seeing that tough but essential decisions that were earlier assumed to be impossible are becoming a reality. It is now clear to everyone how Articles 370 and 35(A) fully isolated Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. The status quo of seven long decades clearly could not fulfill people’s aspirations. Citizens were kept away from the fruits of development. The greatest casualty was the lack of any proper economic avenues to increase earnings. Our approach is different- instead of the vicious cycle of poverty, the people need more economic opportunities.

What is your message for the people of J&K in the new dispensation, unshackled and unfettered to reap the future of reform in India, one replete with jobs and a better life?

For years, intimidation ruled the roost. Let us now give development a chance. My sisters and brothers of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh always wanted a better future for them but Article 370 did not enable it. There was injustice against women and children, ST as well as SC communities. And, most importantly, the innovative zeal of the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh was not harnessed. Now, from BPOs to startups, from food processing to tourism, many industries can avail investment and create opportunities for the local youth. Education and skill development will also bloom. I want to clearly assure my sisters and brothers of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh that these regions will develop as per the wishes of local people, their dreams and ambitions. The growth of these regions will first and foremost be powered by those belonging to these regions. Articles 370 and 35(A) were like chains that kept people tied. These chains are now broken, people have been unshackled from such dominance and they will now shape their own destiny.

Those who are opposing the decisions on Jammu and Kashmir should answer one basic question- what is their defence for Articles 370 and 35(A) remaining? They would have no answer to this question. And, these are the same people who are used to protesting when it comes to anything that helps common people. There is a project to provide water to people, they will oppose it. There is a railway track being built, they will oppose that. Their heart only beats for Maoists and terrorists who have only bullied common citizens.

Today, every Indian is fully standing with the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh and I am confident they will stand with us in the aim to boost development and bring peace.

But aren’t there concerns about democracy? Will the voice of the people of Kashmir be heard?

Kashmir has never witnessed such a strong commitment in favour of democracy. Remember the turnout during the Panchayat elections? The people voted in large numbers and did not get cowed down by bullying. In November and December of 2018, there were 35,000 Sarpanches elected and the turnout in the Panchayat elections was a record 74 per cent. There was no violence during the Panchayat elections. Not a drop of blood was shed in poll violence. This, when the main parties there were lukewarm to this entire exercise. It is very satisfying that now Panchayats are back at the forefront of furthering development and human empowerment.

Imagine, for so many years those in power did not find it prudent to work towards strengthening Panchayats. And remember, they gave great sermons on democracy but the words never led to action. It surprised and saddened me that 73 rd Amendment did not apply to Jammu and Kashmir. How could such injustice be tolerated? It was in the last few years that Panchayats in Jammu and Kashmir got more powers to work towards people’s progress and various subjects transferred to Panchayats under the 73 rd amendment were transferred to Panchayats of Jammu and Kashmir.

Now, I have requested the Honourable Governor to work towards organising Block Panchayat elections too.

Recently, the Jammu and Kashmir administration did the ?Back to Village’ programme, where the entire government machinery went to the people instead of vice versa. They went just to mitigate people’s problems. The common citizens appreciated the programme. The results of these efforts are for all to see. Swachh Bharat, rural electrification and other such initiatives are reaching the grassroots. This is what democracy truly is. In any case, I have assured people that elections in Jammu, Kashmir will continue and it is the people of these regions only who will represent the larger public. Yes, those who ruled Kashmir thinking it is their divine right to do so will dislike democratisation and peddle incorrect narratives. They do not want a self-made, younger leadership to emerge. These are the same people whose own conduct in the 1987 elections has been suspect. Article 370 has helped the local political class avoid transparency and accountability. Its removal will only empower democracy even more.

Jagan to invite Modi to launch YSR Rythu Bharosa scheme

0

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be invited to launch the YSR Rythu Bharosa programme on October 15.

The Chief Minister set the launch date and completion timeline of various welfare programmes after a series of review meetings.

Under the YSR Rythu Bharosa scheme, farmers holding up to 5 acres of land will be given Rs 50,000 assistance a year. It will be given in four equal instalments of Rs 12,500.

Jagan Reddy asked collectors to ensure fair and transparent implementation of the scheme. The village secretaries would issue cards to the tenant farmers to be applicable for 11 months.

He said 2.5 lakh village volunteers, recruited in 40 days, would start functioning on August 15 and act as bridge between the people and the village secretaries.

Modi-Shah are like Krishna, Arjuna: Rajinikanth

0

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are like Lord Krishna and Arjuna, said actor Rajinikanth here on Sunday.

Congratulating Shah on his ‘Mission Kashmir’ (revocation of Article 370 which conferred special status on Jammu and Kashmir), Rajinikanth termed it as a ‘fantastic’ move.

The actor said: “We don’t know who is Krishna and who is Arjuna. It is only they know (Modi and Shah).”

Hindu God Krishna is incarnation of Lord Vishnu and Arjuna his disciple in the epic Mahabharat.

Rajinikanth was speaking at a function organised to release the book titled “Listening, Learning and Leading” which chronicles two years in office of Vice President M.Venkaiah Naidu.

He praised Naidu as a complete spiritual person who is interested in the welfare of people.

The function is being hosted by Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar. Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit, Chief Minister K. Palaniswami, and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam were also present on the occasion.

PM’s address to the nation — 10 takeaways

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday addressed the nation on the government’s big decision to revoke Article 370 granting special status to Jammu and Kashmir and split the state into two Union Territories — Jammu and Kashmir with an Assembly and Ladakh sans one. Here are 10 takeaways from the Prime Minister’s speech:

1. People of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh were deprived of their rights. With the abrogation of Article 370, the dreams of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, B.R. Ambedkar and Syama Prasad Mookerjee have been fulfilled. A new era in Jammu and Kashmir has now started.

2. Citizens now have equal rights and responsibilities. Article 370 was harming the people and children of Jammu and Kashmir, and their loss was never discussed. Article 370 and Article 35A dragged Jammu and Kashmir towards terrorism, dynasty politics and corruption.

3. Article 370 was used as a tool by Pakistan to terrorise Kashmiris. Nearly 42,000 people died over the last three decades. Earlier, laws made by the Parliament didn’t benefit the people of Kashmir. Now all laws made by the Parliament will be applicable in J&K and Ladakh.

4. All Central and state government posts would be filled in Jammu and Kashmir. This will lead to employment generation. Private firms would also be encouraged to generate employment opportunities. Work will be accelerated on all projects and projects related to road and rail will be initiated.

5. Kashmir was the preferred destination for Bollywood movies. Now when the situation is normal, people from world over would shoot movies there. The region has the potential to become the world’s biggest tourism destination. Filmmaking would provide employment.

6. People who came to India after 1947 couldn’t contest polls in Jammu and Kashmir… they had rights everywhere else, but not in Jammu and Kashmir. With the scrapping of Article 370, rights to those who had migrated will be restored.

7. Assembly elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir. People will have a Chief Minister, MLAs and ministers. People of J&K will choose their own representatives.

Modi Circar mocking reply to Pakistan reactions

0

India issued an official statement appealing to Pakistan not to use Kashmir sentiments to promote cross-border terrorism. Modi Circar asked the Imran Khan government not to discontinue diplomatic relations with India in a hasty manner. India asked for the continuation of the existing trade relations without interruptions.

Modi Circar mockingly said that it is not surprised by the melodramatic, sentimental reactions from Pakistan. But it is an indispensable fact that Kashmir is and will remain an integral part of India. Article 370 is an issue concerning the Indian Constitution and it is an internal matter of India which requires no interference of outside forces.

Modi Circar reply is being hailed as a very highly calculated and strategic response to Pakistani responses to Kashmir issue. In a very smart way, India could get support from America which has already asked Pakistan to maintain restraint. International Community is also soft on Indian action since it may help prevent terrorism and bloodshed in Kashmir valley.

Andhra CM meets PM, reiterates demand for special status

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and reiterated the demand that the Centre accord Special Category Status to the state and fulfill other commitments made in Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.

Jagan Reddy called on Modi in the national capital and discussed various issues related to the state.

According to Chief Minister’s Office, Jagan Reddy explained the problems faced by the state and underlined the need to grant Special Category Status (SCS) to the state for its industrial development and overall growth.

The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) chief has already announced that during every meeting with the Prime Minister, he will raise the issue of SCS, which was promised by the Centre while bifurcating Andhra Pradesh in 2014.

The Chief Minister also sought incentives for establishment of industries in the state. He demanded exemption from Goods and Services Tax (GST), Income tax and 100 per cent insurance premium for 10 years to industries.

He also urged Modi to fulfill the promises made to the state in Reorganisation Act by establishing steel plant in Kadapa district and constructing Ramayapatnam port as construction of Dugarajupatnam port envisaged earlier was not feasible.

Jagan Reddy, who assumed office on May 27, submitted a petition to Modi regarding different issues. He briefed the PM on the steps taken by his government to improve people’s standard of living, to provide social security to various sections of society, create infrastructure and ensure corruption-free and transparent governance.

Justifying his government’s decision to cancel Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) entered into by previous Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government with the producers of renewable energy, Jagan Reddy said the previous government was irrational and outlandish in signing these PPAs as they caused huge burden on the state exchequer. He alleged that PPAs were signed only to benefit a select few with ulterior motives.

The Chief Minister said though there was a purchase limit of 5-10 per cent, the TDP government purchased 23.6 per cent of renewable energy, causing Rs 2,654 crore loss to electricity department. He blamed previous government for the power producers landing in Rs 20,000 crore debts.

He told the Prime Minister that the state’s debts in 2014-15 were Rs 97,000 crore but by 2018-19, they mounted to Rs 2.58 lakh crore.

Jagan Reddy said the Centre should have released Rs 2,100 crore over six years for seven backward districts but only Rs 1,050 crore were released. He urged the Centre to release 23,300 crore for backward districts on the lines of KBK (Kalahandi-Bolangir-Koraput) model.

Explaining the water problems faced by the state, Jagan Reddy sought interlinking of Godavari and Krishna rivers. Stating that the government plans to develop a Water Grid at a cost of Rs 60,000 crore by 2050 to supply safe drinking water to people, he sought the Centre’s cooperation in the project.

Modi mania rises as whole India praises

0

A massive wave of support and jubilation is building up in favour of the Modi government’s bold move to set right the decades-old Kashmir crisis. Cheer and joy are evident among almost all sections of Indians. Like never before, the BJP graph has risen to a new peak. Modi mania is rising everywhere just as entire India is praising the Centre’s surgical strike on Article 370. The common man is still wondering whether it is a happy dream from which he or she is unwilling to wake.

The impossible has become possible. The unexpected has happened. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has proved yet again what a strong leader he is and how stable he is to steer India to peace, stability and prosperity to eventually become one among the Global Powers.

Analysts say that if Jamili elections are held now, it is for sure that Modi will sweep the country with just his charisma and his name alone. Indians have watched Kashmir violence and bloodshed all these seven decades in silent pain. Now, they are relieved that there is a ray of hope. The positive emotion is so big that even Opposition Congress leaders are singing in praise of Modi. Congress Chief Whip Bhubaneswar Kalitha (Rajya Sabha) already resigned in protest against his party decision to criticise BJP on Kashmir issue. Congress senior leader Janardhan Dwivedi said that a historic mistake is rectified and it will put an end to prolonged conflict. Many Congress leaders and MLAs across the country are supporting Modi action like this.

Is Jagan Circar worried over Modi-Shah future plans?

0

Just a day after arriving from Jerusalem visit, Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy is rushing to Delhi today to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, President Ramnath Kovind and Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu. The AP CM’s visit is finalised despite the fact that all the above leaders would be busy with national level developments in the wake of Rajya Sabha scrapping Article 370 and Article 35A.

YCP says that Jagan will discuss pending AP reorganisation issues with PM and Shah. It is a subject being discussed for over six years now. More than that, Jagan is going to explain to Modi-Shah duo why his government had to remove the Navayuga Engineering Company from the Polavaram project works. Apparently, Jagan has considered this a high priority to immediately clarify his action and pacify the BJP top leaders.

Jagan tour is happening amid rumours that the Modi-Shah duo have already taken a serious stand against Jagan Circar’s controversial decisions on Polavaram, Amaravati Capital City, 10 per cent EWS reservations, etc. The YCP is obviously greatly worried over immediate possibility of the Centre turning totally against its government. This is evident from how YCP MP Vijayasai Reddy, in his Rajya Sabha speech, blamed Jawaharlal Nehru and Congress party for all the problems in Kashmir. Jagan is also worried over how TDP has welcomed BJP decisions on Kashmir and how TDP MPs are becoming closer to Modi Circar at the Centre

Modi’s Mission Kashmir: How Shah & Co executed the ‘top secret’ task

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s actual countdown for revoking Article 370 and bifurcation of the state of Jammu and Kashmir began during the third week of June, when he chose 1987 batch IAS officer of Chattisgarh cadre, B.V.R. Subramanyam as new Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir.

Subrahmanyam, who had worked as Joint Secretary (PMO) with the Prime Minister earlier, was one of the key officials in Modi’s Mission Kashmir. The entire task of Mission Kashmir was handed over to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who along with Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad was reviewing legal implications with a core team, which included Law & Justice Secretary Alok Srivastav, Additional Secretary Law (Home) R.S. Verma, Attorney General K.K. Venugopal, Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba and his select team of Kashmir Division.

Before the beginning of the Budget Session, Shah had briefed Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat and his aide (General Secretary) Bhaiyaji Joshi about the Centre’s determination to revoke Article 370 and subsequent bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two separate Union Territories.

After legal consultations, Shah focussed on the implications of the revocation of Article 370 on the valley’s law and order situation. Sources close to Shah revealed that on the Prime Minister’s suggestion Shah then had a couple of meetings with National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval.

The sources said that once Shah had reviewed the situation in Kashmir himself, Doval was sent to Srinagar to assess the situation from a security point of view.

The NSA camped there for three days. Then on July 26, the decision to curtail the Amarnath Yatra was taken. Later recall of all tourists from the valley was also suggested by the NSA. Apart from this, an additional 100 companies of the central paramilitary were also rushed as back-up to the prevailing security apparatus.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary Subramanyam, who was in the loop with the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) was given the blueprint of several security measures to be taken on ground zero — use of satellite phones by key police, paramilitary and administration officials; deployment of QRTs in sensitive urban and rural pockets across South Kasmir; and a high vigil at LoC by Army, apprehending mischief from across the border.

The Army chief, heads of intelligence agencies and Central Para Military Forces were also coordinating with the Union Home Secretary and Chief Secretary 24×7.

On the crucial night of August 4, Chief Secretary instructed Director General of Police (Jammu and Kashmir) Dilbagh Singh to take several preventive measures which included house arrest of key political leaders, snapping mobile and landline services, declaring Section 144 and preparing drill for clamping curfew in the valley.

Earlier, on the Delhi front, Shah had another key team set on the job, which included Rajya Sabha members like Anil Baluni and Bhupendra Yadav. The team was tasked to muster the support of fellow members of the august House, where BJP fell short of a majority.

The team which had engineered a major defection in TDP’s Rajya Sabha members had managed Samajwadi Party MPs, Neeraj Shekhar, Surendra Nagar, Sanjay Seth, and Congress MP Sanjay Singh to quit the Rajya Sabha. Thus giving a big boost to the BJP in the upper House.

At the eleventh hour, the team also managed BSP leader Satish Mishra to support the move related to Article 370 and bifurcation of the state.

In the meantime, Amit Shah also had close door meetings with key journalists (having access in the MHA) to be balanced in reporting while touching highly sensitive issues, which have international implications. Shah’s objective was to maintain top secrecy, till he introduces the Bill, and breaks the historical news on August 5, on the floor of Parliament itself.

Sources said that by August 2, Shah was confident that his party had enough support in the Rajya Sabha and would introduce the historical bill(of bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir) in the Upper House by Monday.

Subsequently, a whip was issued by the BJP instructing all members to remain in their respective House hinting them that important bills were expected to be passed.

Highly placed sources revealed that finally on the weekend, it was decided by Modi and Shah to convene a meeting of the Cabinet at the PM’s residence on Monday, to disclose Mission Kashmir’s objective to Ministers and pass a resolution thereof, prior to the proceedings of the House.

Similarly, the Ministry of Law and Justice was tasked for prompt issuance of notification by the President of India on the revocation of Article 370.

After Shah introduced the Bill amid chaos in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, a BJP MP reacted: “Shah’s mission has never been defeated. He is the new Sardar (Vallabhbhai Patel).”

Modi regime gives silent blow to CM Jagan

0

Any State government should have to take the approval of the Centre for getting loans from international bodies like the World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure and Investment Bank. The Chandrababu Naidu regime convinced the Modi government and got World Bank loan sanctioned for Amaravati Capital City project. But the Jagan Reddy government took a unilateral decision to change the modalities of Amaravati project without informing the Centre. The YCP government should have informed the Centre about its changed approach to Amaravati project but it displayed considerable arrogance by not doing it.

What more, when the World Bank team asked Jagan Reddy government to arrange for a visit to Capital City, Jagan Team told them about its decision to change the overall project proposals. Taking it as a sign of violation of the previous agreement, World Bank informed the Modi regime about this. Modi Team took this as an insult as it had to hear the bad news from World Bank rather than from the needy state of AP. Immediately, the Centre asked the World Bank to cancel the Amaravati project as the new government in the state is not at all interested in the AP Capital City. Analysts say that this will certainly make Modi regime to reject any future proposals from AP. Already, the PPAs issue has strained Centre-AP relations to some extent.

Modi’s new budget slogan Navabharat Nirman

0

The BJP government presented its first Union Budget in its second innings in power at the Centre. PM Modi has described it as a strong step to achieve the Navabharat Nirman. This has been the slogan being promoted by Modi immediately after winning the 2019 election. He is already talking in terms of preparing himself and his party for the next election. It confirms the speculation that Modi has begun laying foundations for the BJP victory in the 2022 Jamili One Nation One Election.

The Prime Minister strongly defended the Budget saying that it is pro-poor and will facilitate quality living standards among different sections of people. It has special provisions to strengthen the education sector. Modi said that special programmes are brought in to support the farmers. Analysts say that the hike in gold rates in the present budget is an indication of the BJP’s early preparation for 2022 polls.
