Tollywood directors prefer Aha over Amazon and Netflix

1

Digital giants like Netflix and Amazon gained a huge set of audience across the Indian market. Several Tollywood directors and producers shifted their focus towards web series and OTT shows after the arrival of coronavirus pandemic. Allu Aravind’s Aha wanted to be a tough competitor but none of the web projects impressed the audience. But a lot of filmmakers are keen to join hands with Aha instead of Amazon or Netflix. It is because the digital giants are taking a longer time to finalize the projects.

Amazon and Netflix follow a corporate discipline and structure to finalize the projects and scripts. They need to go through the entire script and the script needs levels of approval. For the approval of scripts alone, it takes 3-4 months. Then the focus gets shifted on the budgets and the casting. Amazon and Netflix are keen on working directors who have prior experience in web series and web-based films. Our Tollywood directors are not experienced in scripting web series.

Hence, most of them are inking deals with Aha as Allu Aravind is an instant decision maker and gives a free hand for experienced directors. The corporate style of work is not which our directors and filmmakers follow. So, several directors are knocking the doors of Aha.

Exclusive: Netflix has a shock for Baahubali makers

After the super success of Baahubali franchise, digital giant Netflix came on to the board to bankroll the web series ‘Baahubali: Before the Beginning’. One more Netflix Indian show falls flat

0

Netflix emerged as a digital leader across the globe and it has millions of subscribers. The digital platform produced and presented some of the best shows with innovative content. But when it comes to India, most of their ideas failed and the shows fell flat. Several Bollywood actors inked deals with the digital giant. After Sushant Singh Rajput and Jacqueline Fernandez starrer Drive ended up as a dud, the latest one that released on Netflix is Mrs. Serial Killer. The web movie featured Manoj Bajpayee and Jacqueline Fernandez in the lead roles.

The web-based film released yesterday on Netflix and it received poor response from the viewers. The ratings have been below average and reached worst by evening. Some of them say that Mrs. Serial Killer will compete and top the list of one of the worst 2020 films of Netflix.

This is not the first time, Netflix failed with Indian shows. Bard of Blood, Leila, Ghoul, Delhi Crime and the list of bad shows goes on. The leaders in producing impressive content are falling short of expectations when it comes to the Indian audience. Though the ideas sound innovative, the writing and the execution are making these fall flat. Web-based shows are quite different from films when it comes to writing and presentation.

Indian filmmakers should learn some tricks from filmmakers like Raj, DK (The Family Man) and Neeraj Pandey, Shivam Nair (Special Ops) to pen some impressive web series before digital giants like Netflix and Amazon move away from Indian markets.

This is said to be the biggest quarterly addition for Netflix after it emerged into a business.

Netflix said that they increased the membership growth considering the huge demand and higher viewing. USA and Canada contributed 2.3 million new subscribers for Netflix in the first quarter of 2020. The digital giant has 183 million subscribers across the globe and 60 million subscribers are from the USA. It is also predicted that countries like the USA could get a wave of canceled subscriptions after the home restriction comes to an end and when people head to work. This is because of the financial crisis as millions lost their jobs due to coronavirus pandemic. Investors did not rush to buy Netflix shares and the price remained almost the same at 433 USD.

Did Suresh Babu strike a big deal with Netflix?

0

One of the prime contender to grab digital content of Telugu films at the moment is Prime Video. This company owned by Amazon is outplaying other competitors like Hotstar, Zee5 and other OTT apps to own Telugu films. Recent biggies like Maharshi, KGF and popular movies like Brochevarevaru Ra, Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya were all acquired by Prime Video only.

In the wake of these happenings, it is being heard in film circles that ace producer Suresh Babu made a big deal with Netflix to send them some amazing content. Though it is being heard from a long time, now it is believable as the recent films that involved Suresh Productions either through production or release, are now going to be available on Netflix only.

Suresh’s recent big venture, Samantha’s Oh Baby, went to Netflix and the film will be available on the digital streaming platform very soon. At the same time, Dorasani, a film presented by Ramanaidu Studios is also said to be acquired by Netflix only. Then we have Suresh’s proud release in recent times, C/o Kancharapalem available on Netflix now.

Going by these happenings, one would definitely believe that Suresh Babu has indeed made a big deal with Netflix.
