Nimmagadda Prasad in deep trouble?

0

Industrialist Nimmagadda Prasad was released on conditional bail in Serbia. The court ordered him to stay and not move out of Serbian Capital City Belgrade. The bail conditions will remain applicable for a maximum period of one year. Before its expiry, the UAE government should complete the process of deportation.

The Ras Al Khaimah, one of the seven Emirates in UAE, has requested for arrest and deportation of Prasad as part of a red corner notice issued by the Interpol. The UAE, on behalf of RAK, would have to put its arguments before the Serbian court on the grounds for deportation. RAK has been accusing Nimmagadda Prasad of causing wilful losses to it in the VANPIC project in Andhra Pradesh. Prasad had travelled to England and other countries in the past but he was not arrested despite red corner notice.

Nimmagadda Prasad is also the accused number 3 in the CBI quid pro quo case against main accused CM Jaganmohan Reddy in India. His lawyers informed the CBI court about his arrest in Serbia and his inability to fulfill the bail conditions set by it for visiting the foreign country.

The UAE has taken serious view of RAK case and it’s expected to speed up deportation process to take Prasad into its custody.

Nimmagadda arrest: downplayed by Mainstream media, satires in social media

Businessman Nimmagadda Prasad’s arrest in Serbia, Europe created ripples in political and business circles. The incident came to light little late. However, the way sections of media responded this was debated by netizens and common people. Sakshi TV completely ignored this news while TV9 presented it like an insignificant news.

Nimmagadda and Vanpic:

Nimmagadda Prasad is known for his ventures in the Pharmaceutical and Television industries. He was earlier known as Matrix Prasad as he owned Matrix Laboratories. However, he sold it later. Then he invested in MAA TV and was highest stakeholder in MAA (to the tune of 70%). Later he sold MAA TV for a price that is almost 50 times the original investment. In 2008, Prasad became a local partner with the Government of Ras al-Khaimah(a city in UAE) for the implementing of a mega infrastructure project under the umbrella of Vodarevu-Nizampatnam Port and Industrial Corridor (Vanpic) for the development of a world-class port-based integrated industrial corridor in the coastal region of Andhra Pradesh.

Vanpic haunts Nimmagadda:

Nimmagadda Prasad is allegedly accused in misdoings in this Vanpic Project which is being done in a joint partnership with Ras Al Khaima. This Vanpic project was approved under the regime late YS Rajasekhara Reddy and this case has connection with Jagan’s disproportionate assets case. Nimmagadda Prasad was also arrested earlier and has spent nearly 2 years imprisonment in connection with the same case. Later he is released on bail.

However , Ras Al Khaimah has filed the complaint in the case of Vanpic shares and has approached Interpol. Now Nimmagadda Prasad has gone to Serbia for a vacation where he was nabbed by Serbia Police in Belgrade in connection to the Vanpic case after the complaint of Ras Al Khaimah.

Media response:

Sakshi TV completely ignored this news when it broke probably because they don’t want this news to trigger debate on Vanpic case as such debate will again surface those alleged scams during YSR regime and Jagan’s disproportionate assets case. However, TV9 also downplayed this news. Many people misunderstand TV9 as pro-TDP channel because of the way it behaved in last 5 years but it needs to be noted that TV9 is always pro-ruling party channel. One can recall that, TV9 never did any sting operation on any ruling party candidates, nor it ever ran a story that shook the governments in the last several years. Eenadu paper mentioned the news today in its front page. However, Sakshi paper that gave prominence to CCD owner Sidharth’s case completely ignored Nimmagadda arrest.

Satires in social media:

However, social media responded differently than mainstream media and netizens fired several satires on this incident. Some of them as below

  • Netizens circulated a cartoon in which all YSRCP MPs go to Modi and request him not on special category status but to help release Nimmagadda
  • Another satire cautions KVP Ramachandra Rao not to go on vacation for other countries as he is also involved such cases
  • Fans of other parties passed sarcastic comments that Nimmagadda may get next Rajya Sabha seat from YSRCP as he achieved extra qualifications for the same.

This is satire on Vijaya Sai Reddy who is involved in ED cases getting Rajya Sabha seat from YSRCP.

Noted industrialist Nimmagadda Prasad is arrested during his current holiday trip in Serbia. The arrest was made based on a complaint made by the Ras Al Khaima company representatives with regard to the VANPIC lands issue and CBI cases. Nimmagadda Prasad is a close associate of CM Jaganmohan Reddy. He also faced investigation in the quid pro quo cases filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

The YCP MPs quickly reacted and started lobbying with the Centre for the immediate release of Prasad. They even submitted a letter to the Union government for ensuring his safe return.

In the past, the CBI charged Prasad with investing Rs 854 cr in the Jaganmohan Reddy related companies in exchange for 22,000 acres land in the port-based Vadarevu Nizampatnam Industrial Corridor. All this lands acquisition and project approval were given during the Rajasekhar Reddy government. Matrix Prasad big foray into Telugu media

0

Nimmagadda Prasad alias Matrix Prasad is a well known name in Telugu states, especially his business acumen is lauded by many. Nimmagadda is all done with the formalities of buying 10 TV. Reportedly, he bought it for a whopping 32 crores. As per reports, he has even bigger plans in the media field and his is planning to start a general entertainment channel next year

Nimmagadda Prasad turned entrepreneur in the year 2000 by acquiring a sick pharmaceutical company in Hyderabad, and made it a great turnaround company, Matrix Laboratories Limited. Later he sold that and acquired MAA TV in 2006 and made it a leading Telugu General Entertainment Channel network. In the year 2015, Maa TV was acquired by Star TV, reportedly for a whopping 2500 crores.

Usually, when they sell a TV channel to other party, there will be agreement (non-compete agreement) that selling party should not start another channel immediately for couple of years, usually for 3 years. As his non-compete agreement with MAA will be over by that time he will be free to launch another general entertainment channel like STAR MAA.

So, while his own entertainment channel may take some time, 10TV deal is all done . There were rumors that 10TV will support Janasena party and also rumors about Chiranjeevi’s involvement in the investments. But there is no official confirmation on that front yet.
