What’s behind Nitin Gadkari chanting ‘Vizag … Vizag..”?

1

Vizag is the buzzword in AP these days. CM Jagan is inviting the biggies of the film industry to invest and set up studios in Vizag. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has repeatedly said the other day that Vizag has the potential to become an investment destination. He even said that Vizag can grow exponentially if the right strategy is devised. In fact, Jagan asked Nitin Gadkari to help in constructing the beach corridor and in building connectivity with Bhogapuram.
All these are indications that Vizag would soon become the administrative hub in AP. Meanwhile, there are reports that the officials have identified a house to set up the camp office for YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Insiders say that Jagan could shift his camp office to Vizag by Ugadi or at the latest by Srirama Navami.
Legal experts say that Jagan will have no legal hassles if he shifts his camp office to Vizag. Legally, a CM can have his camp office anywhere in the state and hence, nothing bars Jagan from working from Vizag. So, Jagan is trying to use this provision to shift to Vizag. If sources are to be believed Rajya Sabha MP and Jagan confidant Vijaya Sai Reddy has already begun talking to industrialists, realtors and celebrities about Vizag becoming the governance hub.
Sources also say that with the YSRCP having a clear majority in the legislative council, ruling party will have no problem in getting the three-capitals bill passed. The work on reworking on the bill is in progress, according to sources. Thus, Vizag would soon become a beehive of activities in AP.

KCR wants better road connectivity between TS-AP, meets Gadkari

0

Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrashekar Rao on Monday (today) met union minister of road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari in Delhi.

He submitted five representations to Gadkari seeking new highway projects and funds to Telangana.

Surprisingly, two of KCR’s representations pertain to seeking better road connectivity with neighbouring Andhra Pradesh which include six-laning of Hyderabad-Vijayawada national highway (NH-65) and four-laning of Kalwakurthy-Nadyal highway.

On Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway, Rao said, “This was four-laned in 2012 under BOT (toll). As per the agreement with the concessionaire, GMR Hyderabad-Vijayawada Expressways Ltd, the six-laning of this high traffic corridor is to be completed by April 2024. As per the State PWD reports, the present traffic on this highway is more than 40,000 PCUs (passenger car units). However, it is learnt that the concessionaire has raised a dispute and not showing any inclination to take up six-laning. It is requested to look into the above matter and help in taking up six-laning of this very important corridor, which is a vital link between the capitals of two Telugu states.”

KCR thanked Gadkari for notifying the new national highway from Kalwakurthy in Telangana to Nadyanl in AP, via Kolhapur, Somasila and Karivena as NH-167K, Rao said with a new bridge across river Krishna at Somalia will reduce the distance between Hyderabad and Tirupati, Chennai etc by about 80-kms.

“The newly declared 167K takes off at km 67/0 of NH 765 near Kalwakurthy. The NH-765 connects Hyderabad with famous Jyothirlinga at Srisailam. The present traffic up to Kalwakurthy on NH-765 is about 14,000 PCUs and the traffic will further increase manifold once
Kalwakurty-Karivena section of NH-167K is developed. Keeping this in view, it is essential to develop the existing two-lane paved shoulder
highway from Hyderabad (ORR) to Kalwakuthy (NH-765) to four-lane standards. It is requested to approve the same at the earliest,” the CM urged.

Centre shocking reply to YCP MP in Lok Sabha

2

The BJP government at the Centre once again clarified that there would be no question of giving special concessions or tax exemptions to Andhra Pradesh. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari told Lok Sabha that it would not be possible to give special treatment to one particular state ignoring the interests of all other states. Replying to a query from YCP MP Avinash Reddy, the Union Minister said in a straight forward manner that the Centre is interested in implementing any policy uniformly applicable to all the states in the country.

This is not the first time that the YCP MPs got such negative replies from the BJP Ministers and national leaders.
Avinash Reddy told Lok Sabha that Special Status was promised to AP at the time of separate statehood but it was not fulfilled till now. No industries had come up in the past five years. The young generation is suffering due to lack of job opportunities, said the YCP MP.

Analysts say that the BJP is slowly taking a hard line against CM Jaganmohan Reddy as he is not keeping silent on Special Status despite several cautions issued by the BJP top leaders. On his part, Jagan and his party leaders are raising this demand wherever possible giving embarrassment to the Modi-Shah duo.

RSS promotes Gadkari as an alternative to Modi?

0

Because of Modi’s growing unpopularity, the Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS) is alarmed that the BJP may not be able to win the 2019 general election with enough majority. The question arises as to what should be the strategy if the BJP emerges as the single largest party. In such a situation, the RSS wants to promote Union Minister Nitin Gadkari as the prime ministerial candidate so as to win the necessary support from friendly parties.

It is well known the Modi-Shah duo are fast losing support from the NDA allies one by one. Most of the opposition parties are vocally against their leadership. Modi is becoming more unpopular because of demonetisation and the perceived highhandedness of his governance. These are some of the reasons why the Shiv Sena, the TDP and other smaller allies have slowly distanced themselves from the BJP-led NDA.

The RSS leaders firmly believe other probable allies of the NDA will not extend support to the BJP to form an alliance government if Modi is to be the prime minister. So, it is now agreed that Modi may continue to be PM candidate for 2019 poll but after the poll, if the BJP emerges only as single largest majority, it will have Gadkari as an alternative to Modi as PM candidate. Because of this strategy alone, RSS has forced Gadkari to issue statements recently asking Modi-Shah to take responsibility for BJP defeat in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.

Gadkari’s letter: new major port at Vadarevu beach in AP

0

Union Shipping, Highways, Road Transport and Water Resources Minister Nitin Gadkari dashed off a letter to AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to send immediate proposals for setting up a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to develop the second major port in AP to be located at Vadarevu beach in Prakasam district under the government sector.

Gadkari has talked about the possibility of the Centre giving immediate permissions based on the State’s proposals for developing Vadarevu port which has long been under consideration. With joint efforts between State and Centre, this port is proposed to be developed on a massive scale considering the natural facilities available there and huge future potential for cargo movement.

The first and only existing major port in government sector is at Visakhapatnam as of now. The Kakinada port is of medium size while the fast developing Krishnapatnam port is a privately built port.

The Union Shipping Ministry has sought allocation of nearly 3,000 acres at Vadarevu beach for development of sufficient infrastructure there for the next several decades.

The Centre has undertaken an ambitious and massive task of connecting major ports by laying national highways and connecting highways in coastal regions at Rs. 16 lakh crore all over the country. All this is taken up under the Sagaramala project. In AP alone, highways and other developmental works are taken up with an estimated cost of Rs. 3 lakh crore in the next few years.

Central Govt rejects AP’s plea to change Polavaram contractor again!

0

The Central Government once again expressed reluctance to change the Polavaram Project Chief contractor. Union Water Resources Minister Nitin Gadkari reiterated that the change in contractor would shoot up the project costs.

A review meeting was chaired by Gadkari at the Krishna Bhavan in New Delhi on Wednesday night to discuss on Polavaram project which is lifeline of Andhra Pradesh. Gadkari indicated if the change in contractor doesn’t impact the overall project costs, then the government will give a go ahead. He clearly stated that the Central government is not ready to bear the additional costs. However, after the meeting Gadkari said changing contractor is an “administrative matter”.

The Minister met with officials of polavaram project contractor Transtroy and sub-contractors of L&T, Triveni and Keller along with State Water Resources Minister Devineni Umamaheshwara Rao. Devineni requested the Center to consider the costs of land acquisition and R&R separately.

Chief Water Resources Secretary Shashi Bhushan Kumar explained the progress of the work through a presentation. In order to complete the project by 2019, it is necessary to work more rapidly, officials said.

Sub-contractors in the meeting expressed their concern over the main contract company Transtroy, especially the delay in payments and work. Gadkari promised to make payments directly to sub-contractors.

It may be recalled that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, who is persistent on changing the contractor, went to Nagpur before going abroad to persuade the Union Minister Gadkari. Devineni reportedly informed Naidu of the latest development.
