RGV’s biggest blunder for Lakshmi’s NTR

    0

With election code coming into effect, Ram Gopal Varma kept challenging everyone that he would release Lakshmi’s NTR at any cost as per the announcement. With trailer generating huge buzz, Ram Gopal Varma was overconfident and he forgot about the basic logic. Telugu360 collected some inside information of what exactly happened with Lakshmi’s NTR. Ram Gopal Varma kept some portions of the shoot for Lakshmi’s NTR pending as he wanted to take a call about them after he watched NTR – Mahanayakudu.

With NTR – Mahanayakudu getting delayed, RGV postponed Lakshmi’s NTR too and waited for the former’s release. After watching NTR – Mahanayakudu, he took some time, completed shoot and got the film ready. By the time he is done, the election code came into effect and the release of Lakshmi’s NTR is now kept on hold. Though the trailer caught everyone’s attention, the film received no lucrative offers and RGV’s greedy quotes made the film delay further. The buyers did not fall for the murky marketing tricks of RGV this time.

RGV’s overconfidence and greedy quotes left Lakshmi’s NTR struggling. Now, RGV announced that the film will release on March 29th without fail. Let’s wait to see what happens next.

NTR Mahanayakudu Worldwide Closing Collections – All Time Disaster

NTR Mahanayakudu has ended up its run with a worldwide distributor share of 3.80 Cr. The film is an All Time Disaster as it struggled a lot to get distributor shares when played on rental basis. Getting share on percentage basis is not unusual but the problem here is the film has a much better cast & canvas. It has names like Balakrishna, Rana etc. Trade usually expects these kind of films to get played on rental basis. The film is given as compensation for distributors (40 percent of the share goes to distributors) but it actually didnt serve any purpose. It has hardly recovered 5 percent of NTR Kathanayakudu losses. Both NTR Kathanayakudu & NTR Mahanayakudu will go down as All Time Disasters in the history.

NTR biopic : Who is to blame for the debacle ?

The prestigious biopic on legendary actor NTR turned out to be an epic disaster at box office as both parts failed to draw the attention of audience. When the project was announced last year, there were a lot of expectations in audience and trade circles and Balakrishna himself turned producer with this film. Teja was initially roped in to direct this biopic, but due to personal reasons he backed out in the last minute and director Krish came on board. Krish has completed the film in less than 100 working days and released the film in time. The first part ended as an embarrassing flop despite getting decent reviews from critics. The second part turned out to be a colossal disaster as it failed to recover the theatre expenses in all areas.

So, who is to be blamed for this huge disaster and are the reasons behind for it ?

    1) Balakrishna is the first person who is to be blamed for this embarrassment. Rather than making this film as a tribute to his father, he cashed in on the huge pre release buzz in trade circles and sold it for exorbitant prices in all areas. At the rates sold by the producers, the film would never become a hit even if it had got good talk. Balakrishna could have released the film on his own, but he preferred to make money out of this prestigious project. Also, Balakrishna should let go the role of young NTR to some other actor. If he really wanted the film to become a box office hit, he should let go the role of young NTR to some other actor. But, his ego didn’t let him do that. He himself played the character and got criticized for not looking the part as young NTR.

    2) Krish should also equally share the blame for the debacle of this project. His lackluster directional skills and hasty research work on the legendary actor are the major reasons for the failure. After Teja’s sudden exit, Krish joined the project and took very little time to do research about NTR. For the biopic on Savitri, the makers of Mahanati did profound research and collected a lot of unknown details from different sources. But, that didn’t happen for NTR biopic. Krish jumped board from Manikarnika and immediately started shooting after making some changes to the script. He finished the shoot in very less time and hardly did any research on NTR’s political journey. There are no unknown facts and details about NTR in this biopic. Krish and his team should have done more efforts to garner information from contemporary politicians and journalists of NTR’s time.

    3) Even as a producer, Balakrishna failed to do justice to this biopic. He tried to squeeze the last penny from distributors though the first part turned out to be a huge loss venture. Many of the distributors are NTR fans and they bought the rights even though the producers quoted high prices. The production house didn’t budge an inch even after the first part tanked heavily and tried to sell the second part for hefty prices. Only after the media highlighted the struggle of distributors, Balakrishna has decided to compensate for the losses. Also, the greed for making money out of NTR’s craze has made the producers and director to come up with a two part biopic and this idea has backfired completely. They should have made this as a single film and the result might have been a different one.

    4) Another reason why the biopic failed is due to lack of honesty in the story. Some of the important phases of NTR life have been sidelined by Krish and Balakrishna just to fit the agenda. This has resulted in outright rejection from audience.

    5) Promotional strategy did more harm than good to this biopic. Krish and his team revealed all important characters much earlier than film’s release and they failed to generate any interest on the big screen. After the first part ended as a flop, the makers were short of plans on how to promote the second part and this has led to poor buzz in audience.

On the whole, all these factors led to the causing of huge embarrassment for such a prestigious project. Balakrishna has failed to make this as a tribute because of his ego as an actor and due to his greed for money as a producer. Director Krish got carried away by the hype and made a cursory research work about the legendary actor only to share the blame for delivering one of the forgettable films in his career.

NTR Mahanayakudu Crashes On Second Day – 2 days AP/TS Update

    0

NTR Mahanayakudu has crashed on its second day in Telugu states as the film has collected a distributor share in the range of 45-50 lakhs. Nizam has contributed 18 lakhs, UA – 7 lakhs, Guntur – 5 lakhs, Nellore – 2 lakhs. This is a disastrous drop after a very poor opening day. Two days total share of the film now stands at 2.10 Cr. The fate of the film is similar to NTR Kathanayakudu which also crashed on second day. Today being a Sunday will be the last day for the film to rake some significant shares as it will be a washout from tomorrow on wards.

US box office : NTR Mahanayakudu on way to disaster

Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Mahanayakudu, the second part of prestigious NTR biopic, is heading towards becoming a colossal disaster at the US box office. The film, which released last Friday amidst low expectations, is performing very badly in the first weekend due to the poor response from overseas audience.

After taking a dull start with a disappointing $ 100K from Thursday premiers, NTR Mahanayakudu showed no signs of improvement towards the weekend. With Friday’s $ 40K and Saturday’s $ 25k ( as of this writing ) , the film is set to become a huge box office dud in overseas. The first part tanked heavily in overseas as it failed to surpass even the million dollar mark in its full run despite a decent start. Due to this, the expectations on the second part are very low.

Trade circles are shell shocked looking at the dismal performance of this prestigious biopic which is directed by Krish Jagarlamudi. The biopic is made in two parts to showcase the political journey and cinema life of NTR, but due to lack of emotional connect in the story, both films failed to strike a chord with all sections of audience.

Why is Nadendla Bhaskar Rao silent now?

    0

It is known news that Nadendla Bhaskar Rao, former chief minister of AP, issued notices to the team of NTR’s biopic and warned that he will not tolerate if he’s shown as a villain in the movie. He issued notices to Krish, Balakrishna, and censor board members on the same. But now the movie is released and it did show Nadendla’s episode. However, Nadendla is silent on this now and it seems there is specific reason for that.

    Click here: https://www.telugu360.com/te/nadendla-manohar-issue-legal-notice-to-balakrishna-and-krish-over-ntr-biopic/

Just before ‘NTR Kathanayakudu’ release, Nadendla gave several interviews in social media and electronic media . In fact his interviews went viral in social media as the current generation is curious to know both sides of the coin. Director Ram Gopal Varma even made a sarcastic comment that the number of views for Nadendla interviews are more than number of tickets bought for NTR movie.

However, Nadendla who made lot of noise just before NTR part-1, which was related NTR’s journey in film industry, is now silent after NTR part-2 (Maha nayakudu) despite the fact that movie has the episode in which he is shown as villain. It seems Nadendla Bhaskar Rao doesn’t want to comment on the movie now, while the movie is running, as that may trigger debates and controversies and such controversies will ultimately help the movie. As per reports, he wants to be silent till the movie run is over and then come up with any reservations he has about the movie. The movie released this Friday, and opened with extremely poor collections

Wish more people would’ve seen ‘N.T.R: Kathanayakudu’ in hall: Krish

    0

After a turbulent 2018, Telugu cinemas prolific director Krish Jagarlamudi is now at peace with his creative faculties. He wishes more people would have gone to theatres to watch the first part of a saga about actor-politician Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, popularly known as NTR

“I had to complete two political period films. Actually, three, since there are two parts for the NTR saga. So I was working on three biopics one after another. ‘Manikarnika’ (which later Kangana Ranaut took over) and the NTR biopic in two parts. Now that ‘N.T.R: Mahanayakudu’ is finally out, I feel I can sleep in peace.

“I feel like a father whose three daughters are married. For the first time since I started shooting these films I slept peacefully for the whole night. Otherwise, I had forgotten the difference between day and night.”

The first part of the NTR saga “Kathanayakudu” under-performed at the box office. Krish is still in a daze over the outcome.

“I have no clue why the first part of the biopic didn’t do as well. Everyone who saw it, loved it. But not enough people went to see it in theatres. Now that it is on the Internet, I get innumerable messages saying how much people have liked ‘N.T.R: Kathanayakudu’. I wish more people had made an effort to see it on the big screen.

“The two parts of the NTR saga were designed as a big screen experience.”

Many feel the two parts should have been released as one film. But Krish disagrees. “It was not possible to release more than five hours of edited footage as one film. Nor could we cut down on the narrative width. This is not an ordinary man’s story. NTR who played Lord Krishna on-screen was actually revered as god by the people of Andhra. Making a film on his life in close association with his son (actor Balakrishna who plays NTR) has been one of the most enriching experiences of my life.

“I’ve come away a better human being. I hope audiences feel the same at the end of the film.”

Krish and his leading man Balakrishna did contemplate putting all the material together in one film. “We thought we would do a 5-hour film with two intervals, like Raj Kapoor’s ‘Mera Naam Joker’. But the idea was shot own. Today’s multiplex audience won’t sit through such lengthy films.”

“I am confident our film has a long shelf life. People will keep going back to the two-part biopic to know more about the only chief minister of the country who could take on Indira Gandhi.”

The second part has opened to encouraging box office reports.

Rationalising the disparity in the response to the two parts, Krish said: “The political atmosphere was heavily weighed against our film when the first part came out. Now the second part has come with no extra baggage. Audiences are watching it for what it is. An honest, unpretentious tribute to the iconic N.T. Rama Rao.”

On the reports in some section of the media that Balakrishna was unhappy with the end product, Krish called it as wishful thinking of those who can’t bear to see a collaboration so momentous coming to a happy fruition.

“There are people out there who wanted us to fail, wanted us to have a fall-out. Bala sir and I were one in our pursuit of a story that would do justice to the legend. This film couldn’t have been made without the active support of Bala sir. Our effort to tell the NTR story was blessed by god and the great man himself. Nothing could stop us.”

NTR Mahanayakudu Day1 AP/TS Collections – Poor Opening

    0

    NTR Mahanayakudu Day1 AP/TS Collections

NTR Mahanayakudu has taken a very poor opening in Telugu States with a distributor share of 1.60 Cr The collections are less than another Balakrishna starrers parama Veera chakra and Sri Rama Rajyam which released a way back in 2011. The film is given on free distribution basis to the distributors who have lost big time in NTR Kathanayakudu. They will get 40% of the collected share as a compensation. But looking at the opening and advance bookings, the film is on its way to close at very low collections and doesn’t serve any purpose of compensation.

Subhash K Jha : NTR Mahanayakudu proves Krish to be a master storyteller

    0

Without a shadow of a doubt, NTR Mahanayakudu is a worthy weighty sequel to NTR Kathanayakudu which came a few months ago.

The story of N T Rama Rao’s rise as the political voice of Andhra Pradesh could not have obtained such a deep voice and lasting resonance was it not for the director Krish’s absolute control over the narrative. We have seen Krish handle period films with panache in the past. His last outing in the genre Manikarnika was marred by some ugly interference.

Here in the NTR bio-pics, he is given a free hand to explore the dynamics of Andhra politics as seen through the eyes of a politician who rewrote the rules of democratic governship even as he struggled to retain his self-worth as it was assaulted from disgruntled political forces.

In one sequence of this tightly-edited handsomely packaged paean to an idealist-politician, two women from his rival’s camp virtually attack him physically in parliamentary and loudly wish him dead as NTR sits stoically under the glare of the worst possible humiliation. But Balakrishna’s NTR never melts down.

When asked why didn’t speak up NTR warns, “Do not mistake my silence for weakness.”

It is indeed a masterstroke to get NT Rama Rao’s son to play the multi-layered actor-politician who was many things to his family, fans and followers. The script subsumes all of the roles with smartly written lines and pithy plot movements. The film takes an objective view of the subject, treating NTR as a man who was almost anointed a god by his fans.

In furiously spectral mob sequences we see NTR bonding with his disciples, lecturing to them, holding their hands in smiling conversation. Playing the man who would be God, Balakrishna brings empathetic energy to the part. Gentle and ferocious in turns and sometimes together, the actor is able to bring forward the myriad shades of the passionate politician and the dedicated householder.

NTR’s growing bonding with his political rival turned most trusted lieutenant Chandrababu Naidu is beautifully etched into the film’s pulsating political framework. Rana Daggubatti gives the best performance of his career so far as Chandrababu. Almost unrecognizable in that reedy makeup he brings a harnessed fire and fierce sincerity to his role.

I wish there was more of Vidya Balan as NTR’s wife. There was more of her in the first part of the biopic. For most of this film, whenever she is there, she throws adoring glances at her husband. Her death, however, will leave you teary-eyed.

Fiercely dedicated to making NTR’s real-life image come alive on celluloid, director Krish shows us who is the boss of the epic drama. If you have seen the first part of the director’s Krish bio-pic then you can’t afford to miss the second part. If you haven’t seen the first part you will undoubtedly want to go back to it after seeing this stormy engaging saga of a man who refused to be slotted as a singer and wannabe politician. He had to be the best. This film has no quibbles with NTR’s lunge towards excellence.

US box office : Dull start for NTR Mahanayakudu

    1

After the disastrous box office result of NTR Kathanayakudu, expectations are quite low on NTR Mahanayakudu which showcases the political journey of the legendary actor. As there is no buzz in audience, the film took a pathetic start on premiers day in overseas.

As per the latest trade reports, NTR Kathanayakudu collected a meagre $ 90K from Thursday premiers. This is a very disappointing start considering that the first part notched up close to half million on premiers day. As the first part couldn’t match the high expectations, overseas audience have not embraced the second part and the poor planning and lack of promotions have further impacted the openings bigtime.

Krish’s flat narration sans emotional connect in the first part failed to strike a chord with NTR fans and common audience. This made the film a huge box office failure leaving buyers in huge losses. In overseas, the film managed to collect just close to one million dollars. The second part need to have a strong first weekend to minimise the losses of buyers and exhibitors.

NTR Mahanayakudu – An unprecedented political journey

    NTR Mahanayakudu review

    Telugu360 Rating 2.75/5

Biopic on legendary actor NTR is one of the eagerly awaited films this year. NTR’s son and actor Balakrishna is portraying the lead role and an array of prominent stars are played crucial roles in this biopic which is made in two parts. The first part, titled as NTR Kathanayakudu, traced the inspiring journey of NTR as actor. Let’s see what the second half has in store.

    Story :

Mahanayakudu begins as NTR designs TDP logo and takes whirlwind tour of Andhra Pradesh. Then NTR’s Andhra wide tour in his Chaitanya Radham explaining all pro poor policies of NTR, which catapulted him to power are shown in good detail. After Nadendla Bhaskara Rao dethrones NTR, the latter regains the power with people support. The stort span covers only till here i.e. till 1984 when NTR regains power.

    Analysis :

NTR Mahanayakudu titles are impressive with quick recap of NTR’s life from childhood to marriage with a good backdrop song. Nara Devansh is cute as childhood NTR.

After titles, movie begins with NTR canvassing and coming to power. These moments are Deja vu for those who have grown up seeing those days. For youngsters , this is a good insight into flashback – a never before never after episode in Telugu politics. Nadendla dethrones NTR and Interval. First half is Good with 3 background songs , fast paced screenplay.

Second half is full of political drama showcasing how NTR regained power by fighting against Ram Lal and the mighty Indira. A keen eye can observe many characters from those days – Venkiah Naidu, Jai Pal Reddy, Adusumilli Jayaprakash, Nannapaneni Raja Kumari, Madhavi Grandhi among others.

While most of the film is based on true incidents , Chandrababu Naidu scenes are given heroic elevations. Rana excels as chandrababu. Vidya Balan NTR emotional scenes came out well. Except part where it is shown that NTR invites Babu to join the party, most episodes are in sync with timeline.

While director closes out the movie with sad death of Basavatarakam, criticism that he didn’t cover the key episodes of NTR’s political life – thumping victory in 1994, ensuing August crisis, will continue. May be at least the director could have taken a stand and at least glanced through those phases in NTR’s life.

Performance wise Balakrishna excelled as NTR. Especially , in the public speech scene after being dismissed from CM post, and in the scene explaining his bonding with tarakam he did well.

Some dialogues by Sai Madhav Burra stands out

Cheppettollu vundaali. Lekapothe aaru kotlu vunna ontari.

Party ki glamour peddayana. Grammar nenu.

    NTR is an emotion

    Positives :

    • Recap of NTR’s political glory
    • Balakrishna Performance
    • SaiMadhav Burra dialogues
    • Keeravani Music
    • Casting

    Negatives :

    • Familiar Scenes
    • Sluggish at times

    Verdict :

NTR Mahanayakudu is a decent political drama. Except highlighting Chandrababu Naidu as rescuer of TDP at that time , most of the scenes are true from history. And for people who have followed NTR’s mentoric rise in politics – NTR is an emotion. Probably a political journey that will never be emulated.

Trade Talk: NTR Complete Business Updates

    0

Nandamuri Balakrishna managed to sell the theatrical rights of NTR – Kathanayakudu for a whopping price of Rs 71 crores and the buyers lost Rs 50 crores after the film struggled to touch Rs 20 crores mark in its final run. Balakrishna during several stages said that he wish to produce the film as it is the biopic of his father and has not business terms related. But things changed completely after buyers quoted huge offers. The film was sold for record numbers and everyone is aware of the result.

MRV Prasad, Balakrishna’s close relative and the executive producer of NTR is strict on stand and is not in a mood to compromise despite of buyers losing massive amounts. A distributor from one of the top territories paid Rs 50 lakhs less for the film before the release of NTR – Kathanayakudu.

The makers are forcing him to pay the balance amount to acquire the rights of NTR – Mahanayakudu which is something not acceptable. With buyers struggling with huge losses, the makers are not even concerned about their problems and are keen on minting money again.

All the areas except Nizam have been sold for huge prices and Nizam buyers released the film on returnable advance basis.

The makers are left in huge profits as they inked lucrative deals through theatrical, digital and satellite rights. Now they are thinking twice to just return a part of the incurred losses. This left the trade circles and the distributors in deep shock.

Using the sentiment of NTR, the makers are squeezing every penny from the distributors instead of standing as a support during this tough time.

The US distributor is left in shock with the film’s performance and they are not in a mood to pay Rs 3 crores for NTR – Mahanayakudu. They already hinted the makers to offer the rights to another buyer and are in plans to take 25% offered refund.

The makers are quite calculative and they are in plans to offer less refund and quote huge prices for the second installment which will again make them mint money.

With the going buzz, the second installment will sure won’t do wonders considering the season and the low buzz the film has been carrying. Hence most of the buyers are left puzzled, they are thinking twice to take a wise call before going ahead.

NTR biopic is now in talks across Tollywood for wrong terms. A bunch of loyal buyers have been shattered with the business plans of Balayya and his team.

    Buyers upset with greedy Balayya

    1

Nandamuri Balakrishna said that he took things prestigious for the biopic of his father NTR. Though the film was planned in a single part, it witnessed several changes as time progressed. The movie is made in two parts and the first part NTR – Kathanayakudu was sold for huge prices for hardcore NTR, TDP fans and most of the buyers hail from a specific caste. Leaving everyone in surprise, the film under performed and left the buyers in a hefty loss of Rs 50 crores. The makers promised to offer second installment NTR – Mahanayakudu if the first part ends up in losses.

Now the makers decided to return back 25% of the losses of NTR – Kathanayakudu to the buyers and are quoting new rates to release NTR – Mahanayakudu which is a huge shock for buyers. Balayya and his team made huge profits with the theatrical rights, satellite and digital deals. With buyers already losing Rs 50 crores, the team of NTR is not even bothered about the buyers and opened business for the second installment.

Most of the distributors are not ready for the new deal. They are in plans to take the 25% refund and watch what will happen with NTR – Mahanayakudu. A top distributor said that the film may struggle to get decent opening numbers and it would be a huge risk for the buyers to pay hefty amounts for NTR – Mahanayakudu. Though it is not clear, who is behind this decision, Balakrishna is widely criticized for the step. NTR – Mahanayakudu releases on February 22nd all over.

Nandamuri Balakrishna after a debacle like NTR – Kathanayakudu is all set with the second installment NTR – Mahanayakudu. The film’s shoot got wrapped up recently and there have been lot of speculations about the incurred losses by the buyers and the release date of NTR – Mahanayakudu. The latest update is that Balakrishna and his team will refund 25% of the losses to the buyers of NTR -Kathanayakudu. NTR – Mahanayakudu will now release on February 22nd and the makers made an official announcement today. Though Krish wanted March release for the film, Balakrishna was not in a mood to delay the release and locked February 22nd.

Telugu360 already revealed about the drift between MRV Prasad and Sai Korrapati. Balakrishna too decided to keep Korrapati aside for NTR – Mahanayakudu. Suresh Movies will release the film in Vizag, Krishna regions and NV Prasad will release the film in Ceded area. Part 1 (NTR – Kathanayakudu ) was released in these three territories by Sai Korrapati. NBK Films along with Vaaraahi Chalana Chitram and Vibri Media are the producers. NTR Biopic – Infighting continues…

NTR – Kathanayakudu released during Sankranthi and has been declared as one of the biggest disasters of Telugu cinema. The buyers lost Rs 50 crores through the film and they pinned all their hopes on NTR – Mahanayakudu which is speculated to be offered for free. But neither Balakrishna nor the makers promised the film for free. Balakrishna’s close relative handled the production initially but he was later kept aside after a bunch of complaints against him.

Now Balayya’s relative made his entry back after the first instalment ended up as a dud. As per the ongoing discussions, the makers are in plans to return back 20% of the losses for the buyers and release NTR – Mahanayakudu through Suresh Movies and new buyers all over. Things are not well between Balayya’s relative and Sai Korrapati. The entire team is left puzzled with lot of internal fights. Most of the buyers bought the first installment for fancy offers keeping the charisma of NTR in mind. Caste factor too played a crucial role in these business deals revealed a top distributor who is not interested to be named.

Now the makers of NTR are not bothered or concerned about the losses incurred and are in plans to release the second instalment NTR – Mahanayakudu through new buyers. Instead of learning from the lessons, the team of NTR are focused on minting money rather than turning a support for buyers who lost badly. The entire shoot of NTR – Mahanayakudu has been wrapped up recently and the film releases next month.
