Drink, but don’t Drink and Drive: Allu Arjun

0

Maverick director SS Rajamouli and Stylish Star Allu Arjun attended the Chief Guests for Traffic Awareness Program arranged by Hyderabad Traffic Police today. The event has been attended by the students of various colleges of Hyderabad. During his speech, Allu Arjun reminded the students about couple of incidents that happened in his life after which he decided not to drive rashly. Bunny said that we are responsible for the lives of others who are around us when we are in the driving seat.

Speaking about this, he said, “I am not here to say not to drink. Please have your drinks, try new ones and enjoy with your friends, but please do not drive after drinking. Prefer going in a cab or ask your driver to pick you up after you are drunk. Leave your vehicle there and collect it in the morning. There are several ways to be safe and keep others safe”.

Rajamouli said “We are our enemies. Every year over 1 lakh people are being killed because of accidents. Please don’t drink and drive”.

Two years of ‘Bahubali’: Lessons its success taught the industry

0

It’s been two years since the release of the first part of S.S. Rajamouli’s “Bahubali” franchise and there is so much to learn from its success, feel the next-gen filmmakers such as Chandoo Mondeti, Nag Ashwin and Sankalp Reddy.

The success of “Bahubali” as a franchise across the length and breadth of the country has proved language is a “superficial barrier”, says director Nag Ashwin.

“If Hollywood films can work in India, why can’t Telugu films work outside Telugu states? I think ‘Bahubali’ broke the language barrier and proved that great content can go beyond regional boundaries,” Ashwin told IANS.

“It was a very well planned franchise which got the marketing and packaging right,” he said.

“Bahubali: The Beginning” was the first dubbed Hindi film to have earned over Rs 100 crore at the box office. The second part in the franchise minted over Rs 500 crore in Hindi.

The Tamil version of both the parts minted over Rs 250 crore.

“Ghazi” director Sankalp feels “Baahubali” will happen once in a lifetime.

“It’s the product of a filmmaker who dared to dream and he dreamt big. There will always be one such film for every generation, just like how ‘Maya Bazaar’ and ‘Sankarabharanam’ were celebrated. But it’s very important to not get carried away by this success,” Sankalp said.

Putting it into perspective, Sankalp added: “Everybody can’t make a ‘Baahubali’. Rajamouli had a vision and he worked really hard for it. We can’t make a big film just because he made and succeeded.”

A Rajamouli fan, director Chandoo Mondeti says the success of “Bahubali” made him realise the importance of drama and emotions to connect with the masses.

“Irrespective of the size of the film you are making, it’s essential that it works on an emotional level. Every film of Rajamouli has worked because he gets the emotions right. His films work beyond regional boundaries because even non-Telugu speaking audiences can relate to the emotions,” Mondeti said.

He also added that Rajamouli has successfully widened his market with each film.

“It’s been a very strategic rise to the top. A case study can be made on his career. He didn’t straight away make a ‘Bahubali’. He kept pushing boundaries and expanding the market with each film. That growth as a filmmaker is very important,” he said.

On Monday, the second anniversary of the film, producer Shobu Yarlagadda remembered “Bahubali: The Beginning” as a “defining moment” in the careers of the entire team.

“We passed the biggest test of our careers! We lived to tell the tale,” he tweeted.

“Bahubali” franchise is the biggest grossing Indian film with combined earnings of over Rs 2000 crore.

Rajamouli Regrets His Comments on Sridevi

Responding to the controversy involving him and veteran diva Sridevi over Sivagami’s character in ‘Baahubali’, Rajamouli said that he regret to have talked about her on a public platform.

In an earlier interview, Rajamouli said that Sridevi couldn’t play Sivagami character as she had too many and too exorbitant demands. Reacting strongly to Rajamouli’s comment, Sridevi in another interview said that the ‘Baahubali’ director shouldn’t have spoken about her remuneration and other details on record. Besides saying that she was hurt by his comments, Sridevi denied to have made the demands allegedly divulged by Rajamouli.

In a chat with a leading national media house, the ace director said that he shouldn’t have discussed the details of approaching Sridevi and the following happenings on public platform, and that he regrets his mistake. Rajamouli went on to say that he has huge respect for Sridevi, who has been a flag-bearer of the Southern film industry in Bollywood for many years. He wished her all the best for ‘Mom’ and other upcoming projects.

When asked about Sridevi denying to have asked the high remuneration and other demands that he had divulged earlier, Rajamouli said that as both of their versions are now in front of people, they can decide whose version they want to believe.

Rajamouli’s humility bigger than success of ‘Baahubali’: Raju Mahalingam

0

Raju Mahalingam of Lyca Productions, the makers of superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming Tamil science-fiction action film “2.o”, finds the humility of filmmaker S.S Rajamouli much bigger than the success of “Baahubali”.

“Met Rajamouli. Realised his humility is bigger than mega success of ‘Baahubali’. Respect sir,” Mahalingam, creative head of Lyca Productions, tweeted on Saturday.

Earlier this week, Mahalingam confirmed that the post-production of “2.o”, a sequel to 2010 Tamil blockbuster “Enthiran”, is going on in full swing.

He told the media here that the film needs to be watched on more number of 3D screens.

“The film has been shot in 3D, and on a budget of Rs. 400 crore. As of now we have only 1500 3D screens in India as opposed to over 10000 in China. We hope to have more screens converted into 3D and ready for the release of ‘2.o’,” he said.

Slated for release next year, “2.o” has been directed by Shankar, who has teamed up with Rajinikanth for the third time.

The film, which will be released in Telugu and Hindi, also stars Akshay Kumar as the antagonist, Amy Jackson, Sudhanshu Pandey and Adil Hussain.

Sridevi’s Response to Rajamouli’s Allegations

Veteran actress Sridevi, who had been avoiding the question of rejecting Sivagami’s role in ‘Baahubali’, and the subsequent outburst of Rajamouli against her in an interview, has finally opened up.

‘I am being asked the same question when I attend for interviews in Mumbai, Chennai or Hyderabad. I have rejected many films in the past due to my own reasons. They went on to become big hits. I thought they were not in my destiny. Neither I or any filmmaker talked about those films ever. I don’t know why it has become an issue in the case of Baahubali,’ Sridevi said.

Clarifying on her exorbitant demands, as revealed by Rajamouli, she said, ‘It is being alleged that I have demanded Rs 8 crore remuneration, an entire floor in a star hotel and 10 flight tickets to sign Baahubali, it is completely false. I wouldn’t have acted in 300 films if I make such demands”.

‘Rajamouli is a dignified and very calm filmmaker, I have huge respect for him. I think he was misinformed on my demands by producer. Anyway, he shouldn’t have talked about me in that manner on a public platform. I was really hurt when I saw his interview,’ she concluded.

Sridevi is currently busy promoting her upcoming film ‘Mom’, which will hit screens on July 7.

Rajamouli has become India’s biggest superstar: Karan Johar

0

Filmmaker Karan Johar can’t stop praising S.S. Rajamouli — who he feels has emerged as the “biggest superstar” in Indian cinema — and the phenomenon that “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” has turned out to be.

Karan had presented the Hindi version of the film.

Talking about the massive success of the movie which has minted over Rs 1500 crore at the global box office, he said: “I feel short of words when I speak about ‘Baahubali’. It has become a milestone film. S.S. Rajamouli has become the country’s biggest superstar.

“I think the filmmaker’s victory is beyond everybody else. I am honoured that me and my production house got associated with ‘Baahubali’ and I am proud and privileged to be a part of its journey.”

He spoke on the sidelines of the success party of his friend Ekta Kapoor’s production “Half Girlfriend” here on Friday night.

Karan also spoke about his birthday celebrations where the who’s who of Bollywood came in.

How much is Karan Johar pocketing for Baahubali 2

0

Baahubali: The Conclusion has been declared as the India’s biggest motion picture and the makers have taken enough care to get a wide release. Targeting a larger section of audience, the makers have been completely successful as they teamed up with efficient buyers and filmmakers across various territories where Indian cinema has been popular. Bollywood top filmmaker Karan Johar acquired the Hindi rights of the film (across India) and he distributed the film which minted Rs 478.3 crores till date. The film has been still minting money across various territories.

Baahubali: The Conclusion has been given to Karan on the basis of distribution and he is all set to share 10% of the profits from the theatrical share of the Hindi version which is expected to be between Rs 220-230 crores. Hence Karan Johar is expected to pocket Rs 22-25 crores for distributing Baahubali: The Conclusion and Arka Media Works will take the rest of the amount. Baahubali: The Conclusion made Rs 1596 crores in four weeks in all the released languages and the plans for the China release is currently on. Prabhas, Rana and Anushka essayed the lead roles in Baahubali: The Conclusion which has been directed by SS Rajamouli and produced by Shobu Yarlagadda, Prasad Devineni.

Manchu Manoj to give 10% of each film’s earnings to farmer-initiative

Actor Manchu Manoj will give 10 per cent of each films earnings to the ‘Save the Farmers initiative to provide relief to Indian farmers.

He has started ‘Manoj Kumar’s Unity’ in order to collect funds for the development of farmers in India. The foundation started an initiative called ‘Save the Farmers’. Its basic aim is to get more and more people to donate a day of their annual salary to the farmers.

‘Baahubali’ has raised hopes of regional filmmakers: Prabhas

What started off as a mere vision in filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli’s mind in 2012, has today become a phenomenon of sorts in Indian cinema. Actor Prabhas, who invested four years to the two-part “Baahubali” franchise, says he would have happily given more time to the project which he feels fortunate to have been a part of.

After the stupendous success of “Baahubali: The Beginning” in 2015, “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” has set an unprecedented record for Indian cinema by raking in over Rs 1,500 crore (almost $180 million) worldwide — giving Prabhas a visibility he had never predicted for himself.

“I have my strong faith, respect and belief in Rajamouli sir. The fact that he believed I could play Baahubali was huge for me. If needed, I would have even given seven years of my life for Baahubali, as such characters are rare to play in a lifetime for any actor. I consider myself very fortunate and lucky for it,” Prabhas told IANS over email.

Despite success of both the parts — “Baahubali: The Beginning” and “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” — Prabhas still feels “unfamiliar” from the project.

“When we started work on ‘Baahubali’, my sheer aim was to be able to live upto the imagination that Rajamouli sir had in mind. As an actor, my intention was to bring up Baahubali live on screen for the audiences. I never even expected in my wildest of dreams that the film would grow on to become a phenomenon of sorts. The feeling is ineffable today,” he said.

Prabhas says the pressure was more on him and the whole team of “Baahubali” when they were making the first part as it established the film right from the start.

“Everything had to be faultless in order to make ‘Baahubali’ what it is today. Reaching perfection, giving the film the kind of grandeur it has, the VFX, and the characters — all these elements set just the right environment for the film. Part two was eagerly awaited because part one really worked for the audiences,” he said.

“‘Baahubali’ has definitely increased hopes for a lot of regional film makers. After all, what I have learnt is that it only takes one ‘Baahubali’ to enter into the audiences’ hearts and cross the boundaries,” he added.

Talking about his preparations for his role, Prabhas said: “A character like Baahubali required a preparation that I had to undergo mentally and physically. From undertaking a strict routine and a lifestyle which helped me become the character physically to knowing the character’s depth and a lot more.

“What was more of a task was to maintain a consistency of the character and playing the father-son duo. To understand the emotions and sentiments from a father and son’s perspective and enacting both sides of it wasn’t easy,” added Prabhas, who played a double role of Amarendra Baahubali and his son Mahendra Baahubali in the franchise.

The 37-year-old, who started his career with Telugu film “Eeshwar” in 2002, says acting was not his childhood dream.

“I never thought I will pursue acting because I was a shy person. Around the age of 18 or 19 it struck me that I want to be an actor. I told my dad (producer Uppalapati Surya Narayana Raju) and uncle about it, they felt very happy,” Prabhas said.

“As an actor, ‘Baahubali’ has given me so much that I can’t explain in words. It’s a character that will always be a part of me,” he added.

While the “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” hangover doesn’t seem to sober down at the box office anytime soon, Prabhas is now gearing up for his next project “Saaho”, to be directed by Sujeeth.

“‘Saaho’ is my next project. It’s a present day film, and it would be releasing in three languages — Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. I have started preparing for my character. We would be starting the shoot shortly,” Prabhas concluded.
