BJP wants Pattiseema to be named after Chandrababu

0

Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday turned tables on YSRCP Congress by asking the party to state whether it would support the Pattiseema project or not. So far, YSRCP has been posing the irksome question to chief minister Naidu to tell the people whether he was supporting the special status of not.

Today, state assembly took up Pattiseema Project issue for the debate. As the opposition leader Jagan was away in Pulivendula to participate in death anniversary of YS Rasekhar Reddy, deputy leader J Nehru spoke on the subject. Elaborating on the benefits of Pattiseema project, being taken up on Godavari, Naidu said the project was meant to divert Krishna water to Rayalaseema, which is a drought prone area.
“We want transfer 80 TMC Godavari water to Krishna barrage. The water thus saved in Krishna will be transferred to Rayalaseema. Now tell if you are opposed to taking water to Rayalaseema which was the objective of Pattiseema, or not,” Naidu asked and wanted straight answer.

YSR Congress leader Jyothula Nehru found difficult to answer in clear ‘yes’ or ‘no’ . He said his party was not opposed to linking of the rivers, but they were opposed to the way the project was being implemented. “We are opposed to the motive behind the construction of Pattiseema when Polavaram was to be taken up with more benefits. Pattiseema is not a irrigation project, but a money spinning project,” he said.

BJP floor leader, Vishnukumar Raju, who normally used to take critical stand against TDP on many issues, this time, became cheerleader of chief minister Naidu. He said as a civil engineer he knew more about Pattiseema than Nehru. ” It is amazing that the state government is able to finish the project in just eight months and one should appreciate the efforts of chief minister Naidu. Going an extra mile, he suggested to the house that the project should be named as “Chandranna Pattiseema scheme” to the cheers from the treasury benches.

Then Nehru described the BJP as the tail of TDP, which was objected to by Raju stating, BJP could cut tails of YSRCP if it wants. Chief minister also defended BJP stating that it was a national party and there was nothing wrong in Raju’s appreciation of TDP’s work.

KE demands Rs 1 lakh crore package to Rayalaseema

0

Deputy chief minister and revenue minister Krishna Murthy demanded Rs one lakh crore package to the development of Rayalaseema region. Addressing the media, he said, “I don’t know what the CM demanded from centre for Rayalaseema, a man from Rayalasseem, I demand a package of Rs one lakh crore to the region,” he said.

The differences between the deputy chief minister and Municipal administration minister P Narayana, blue eyed boy of CM Naidu, came to fore once again today. His comments on capital region land acquisition, which is being overseen by municipal minister Narayana, bears testimony to this.

Krishna Murthy said he doesn’t want to comment on Narayana’s statement that the government would acquire land in capital region by invoking Land Acquisition Act. The implementation LA act and getting the land acquired to the public purpose is normally the duty of revenue minister.

Here Revenue minister is totally out of loop as far as the land pooling and land acquisition in the capital region development authority is concerned. ” I don’t want to comment on what he said,” KE told media, stating that there is no need for invocation of Land Acquisition Act. ” I am hopeful that people would come forward to give away their lands to capital,” he said. In the same breath, the revenue minister cum deputy CM also said there was no need for further acquisition of land for the capital construction. He clearly stated that the revenue department had nothing to the with land pooling or land acquisition in the capital region.

He said the gramakantham lands (residential portion of villages) should be not be touched by the government, if they were in use.

Rayalaseema cries for attention

0

Leaders and intellectuals from all four districts of Rayalaseema demanded announcement of a developmental package for the region which is the principal casualty of the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh now and Madras then.

They have deciced to observe November 16 as betrayal day. It was on this day in 1937 that Coastal Andhra leaders agreed to implement a developmental package to seek the support of Rayalaseema leaders for separate Andhra state to be carved out of Madras state. This understanding is called Sri Bagh pact after the venue, Sri Bagh” of the meeting in Madras.

The leaders said not a single attempt had been made to implement the Sri Bagh pact.
The leaders who met at a school in Tirupati gave a call for an agitation to force the state and central governments to spell out its programs for the development of the region in changed scenario.

The meeting, organized under aegis of Rayalaseema Samalochana, headed by noted writer Bhumana Subramanyam Reddy, took strong objection to the statement of Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao that Rayalaseem would not get a single drop of water from River Krishna. Writer Arun called for observation of betrayal day in the region on November 16.
“Protest demonstrations will be held across the region against the non-implementation of the Sri Bagh pact,” Arun said. The meeting also demanded the establishment of a steel plant in Kadapa disrict in the public sector. Trade union leader Chandrasekhar Reddy demanded that Krisna Water Board be set up in Rayalasema only. Rayalaseema Joint Action Committee secretary Bojja Dasaratharami Reddy said the situation in region was worse than what it was like in 1953. Rahul Effect?: Naidu shifts focus on Rayalaseema

0

Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu appears to have shifted his focus on Rayalaseeama. Wednesday was the day of Rayalaseema in AP secretariat.

For the past few months, the region is not all in the news, except for looming drought in wake of failure of monsoons to bring enough rains so far. This region’s Anantapur district receives lowest rainfall in India, after Jaisalmer.

There has been growing resentment among the leaders of R’seema that Naidu is giving short shrift to the region just because his TDP did not get enough seats from the region. YSR Congress and Congress have raised the banner of revolt to highlight governmental apathy towards the region. Oppositon leader YS Jagan toured the region in the name Odarpu yatra. AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi toured Anantapur  and distributed financial assistance to family members of those farmers who committed suicide, all this happened while Naidu was busy with Pushkaralu.

Both parties are planning a movement, though separately, for the allocation of more funds for the early completion of Galeru-Nagari and Handri-Neeva projects.Congress seniors DL Ravindra Reddy and C Ramachandraiah have called upon people of Rayalaseema to take to streets to fight for the rights of the backward region, “as the TDP government is reneging on its promises made to Rayalaseema.”
While the Opposition parties have been more visible in region, governmental activity is conspicuously absent.

Rubbing salt to the wound,  for the past one year, coastal Andhra, because of the development of high profile capital, business conclave in Vizag, Godavari Pushkaralu, tours of Singapore teams etc,  has attracted an envious attention.

Naidu seems to have realized the political ramifications of these lopsided developments.

He devoted most of Wednesday to Rayalaseema.

He held a video conference with the collectors of Anantapur, Chittoor, Kurnool and Kadapa districts and inquired about the progress of ongoing irrigation projects in the region.
Chief Minister directed the officials to complete all the unfinished works of Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanti (HNSS) phase-II by December 2015 as the project is key to store Krishna waters, which will be brought to Rayalaseema after the completion of Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Project, aimed at diverting Godavari waters to Krishna Basin. He also ordered the officials to ensure that
Galeru Nagari Sujala Sravanti (GNSS), Telugu Ganga and Srisailam Right Branch Canal, be completed at the earliest.

Interestingly, the State government also announced an interim special package with an amount of Rs 49.5 lakh to support the families of 33 farmers, who had committed suicide in Ananatapuramu. Is it not Rahul effect?

YSRC has fired the salvo that without completing either the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanti (HNSS) or Galeru Nagari Sujala Sravanti (GNSS) project, how you divert Krishna Waters simply by finishing Patti Seema.

He gave Collectors, Engineer-in-chiefs and Chief Engineer’s extraordinary powers to expedite the completion of works od the pending projects.

AP Removes ‘Sri Krishnadevaraya’ from Project’s Name

0

At a time when Rayalaseema people are seething with anger for not locating the capital in region and for ignoring the region while setting up of major industrial projects, state government has removed the word Sri Krishnadeveraya from the name of Sri Krishnadevaraya Galeru Nagari Sujala Sravanthi Project.

The project is meant to divert Krishna water to a region which was named after Sri Krishnadevarayalu, the great emperor who ruled the entire South India. A polyglot, Rayalu (1509-1529) was known for his outstanding scholarship in Telugu language.

It was he who said “Desa bhasalandu Telugu lessa” (Telugu is greater than other languages of the country). The irrigation tanks which are still watering the arid zone are his brain-child. In commemoration of his contribution to irrigation of the region, NT Ramarao named the project project as Sri Krishnadevaraya Galeru Nagari Sujala Sravanthi Project. Today, Irrigation department issued order, signed by principal secretary Adityanath Das, removing the name of Sri Krishnadevaraya.

Taking strong ojection to the decision, Kuradi Chandrsekhar Kalkura, a known literary activist from Kurnool, said the government was hurting the sentiments of the people of Rayalaseema.

“It was small canal named after great emperor who laid foundation for modern agriculture. Removal of his name from the project of region is irrational. The decision should be revoked,” he said.YSRC MLA Y Visweswar Reddy also criticized the decision and said it was wrong to change of name of Sri Krishnadevaraya Galeru Nagari Sujala Sravanthi Project.
