Renuka Chowdary ready to contest in AP

0

Congress former MP and former union minister Renuka Chowdary on Wednesday said that she is ready to contest the next elections in Andhra Pradesh. However, she said that it was left to the party high command to decide where she should contest.

Interacting with the media persons in Vijayawada, Renuka Chowdary took strong objections to the style of functioning of government in the state. She said that the ruling YSR Congress had divided the people on caste lines for its benefits.

She criticised Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy for not responding to the agitation of the Amaravati farmers. She said that the farmers who have given their lands for the capital were on a warpath to protect their rights.

She backed the Amaravati farmers and felt that the successive government should honour the decisions of the previous government on the capital. She said that the previous government had taken the lands from the farmers on an agreement and regretted that the successive government had ignored the agreement.

Renuka Chowdary, who was here attending a private party, said that people of Andhra Pradesh were inviting her to contest the next elections here. She said that she had every right to visit any place in the state and dared the state government from stopping her.

She also criticised Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for taking Telangana backward in the last eight years of his rule. She discounted the KCR’s claims on BRS victory in the next elections and wondered how would the people of Telangana vote for him when he removed Telangana from his party.

The Congress leader said that the two Telugu states needed handholding and it was possible only under the leadership of the Congress. He called upon the people to support the Congress in the two states in the next elections for development.

Will Renuka Chowdary contest from Gudivada?

1

These days in Andhra Pradesh, Congress former MP from Khammam in Telangana, Renuka Chowdary, is very much in the news. She had recently participated in the Amaravati farmers’ padayatra on the first day on September 12.

During her brief walk along with the farmers, Renuka Chowdary blamed chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. She had accused Jagan Mohan Reddy of being anti-Kamma and targeting Kamma people in the state.

She spoke so much about the caste and threw a challenge that she would contest from Gudivada Assembly constituency in Krishna district in the next elections. She criticised the Kamma MLAs, Kodali Nani of Gudivada and Vallabhaneni Vamsi of Gannavaram, both from the Krishna district, for being with Jagan Mohan Reddy.

She gave interviews to some local news channels and website channels where she said she would defeat Kodali Nani at Gudivada Assembly constituency in the next elections. But the big question now doing rounds is which party would give her the chance to contest!

Renuka Chowdary started her political career with the TDP. Later, she shifted her loyalties to the Congress due to differences with Chandrababu Naidu. Will she now join hands with Chandrababu Naidu and contest on TDP ticket at Gudivada is the big question.

Quite interestingly, Chandrababu Naidu is also looking for strong candidates for Gudivada and Gannavaram Assembly constituencies. If Renuka Chowdary comes to AP and offers to contest from Gudivada, Chandrababu Naidu would require one more candidate for Gannavaram constituency.

It is to be seen who would fill these two vacancies and whether Renuka Chowdary would stay by her word and contest from Gudivada!

Bhatti, Renuka ‘ego clash’ hits Cong in Khammam!

1

Khammam politics are totally different in Telangana.

Although TRS swept all the polls in all districts in Telangana, it could not succeed in Khammam.

Because Khammam voters always favoured Congress, TDP over TRS in Assembly polls though its a different issue that elected MLAs from Congress and TDP defected to TRS later.

If there is one district in Telangana where Congress still has some political hold, it is Khammam district.

Now even this Khammam district may shun Congress soon, due to ego clashes between two senior party leaders in the district.

One is CLP leader, Madhira MLA Malllu Bhatti Vikramarka and other is firebrand woman leader, former Khammam MP Renuka Chowdhary.

Both are trying to gain upper hand over the other instead of working together to strengthen Congress in Khammam.

Bhatti secured MLC ticket to his follower Nageshwar Rao recently. Renuka is upset at this and ignored to work for his victory.

Congress leaders and cadre are worried over fate of Congress in Khammam due to ego clashes of top leaders in district.

Parliament not immune to casting couch: Renuka Chowdhary

0

Senior Congress leader Renuka Chowdhary on Tuesday raised many eyebrows by saying that “not just film industry and other work spaces, even Parliament is not immune to the casting couch”.

Chaudhury also attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for denigrating her as a woman in the past by indirectly referring to her as “Surpnakha” in Parliament when she had laughed at one of his statements.

Chaudhury’s remark came after veteran Bollywood choreographer Saroj Khan said that casting couch was prevalent in all sectors, and not just in the film industry where it “provides livelihood at least”. Khan later apologised for her comment.

“Yes, it is the bitter truth. The whole film industry may get up in arms against me. It’s just not in the film industry, this happens everywhere, in work spaces, with women. It happens everywhere. So, don’t imagine that Parliament is immune or some other work space is immune. It’s not,” Chowdhary told reporters.

“… if you look at the western world today, established top actresses have taken this long to come out and say ‘me too’. It’s time India stood up and say ‘me too’,” she added.

Chowdhary said the term “casting couch” cannot be narrowed down to one sphere.

“It means when you take away the privileges of women and use it for your personal benefit, or in lieu of other compensation,” the Congress leader said, adding that there is a law to prevent sexual harassment at workplaces.

“When the country’s Prime Minister insult a woman, that is denigrating. That is against law. That is denigrating my status as woman.

“You have taken away my dignity in Parliament, when the Prime Minister has spoken in a way that is derogatory to my status as a woman. Can a PM say that I remind him of Surpnakha. I am Surpanakha, I don’t want to become Sita,” said Chaudhury.

She said: “When Home Minister (MoS) Kiren Rijiju uploads offensive videos against me, only because I had the courage to speak. So, when they talk in a way, that is derogatory to my status as women. It exists in Parliament… they talk about us like this and they are derogatory,” she added.

Chowdhary said: “I am backing every women. Like I said, forget ‘me too’, this is ‘you too’. We have to say this.”
