The teasers of Vyjayanthi Movies ‘Sita Ramam’, point to costumes that are subtle, complement the storyline, and reflect the old-world charm of the era in which the story unfolds. All this is thanks to Designer Sheetal Sharma who has designed for many films, including ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ in recent times. It was a call from the producer Swapna Dutt that set the ball rolling in February 2021, after which the director outlined his requirements, says Sheetal Sharma.

“Director Hanu was very clear on the thought process, he likes authenticity yet gives space to experiment, his vision was so clear. He wanted the old world charm and the lost beauty of 50s and 60s, so yes there was a lot of research as it’s also a story of a soldier, so he wanted the uniforms to look apt and correct. With the help of my team we started lining up the process, the costume design in Sita Ramam is extremely narrative based and even the colour pallet is purely through the narrative,” Sheetal recalls.

Period movies can be challenging from a costume designer’s point of view. But Sheetal stuck to authenticity for creating the perfect looks for Mrunal, Rashmika and Dulquer Salmaan.

“All 3 characters intervened with each other in the span of 2 decades. 60s to 80s, so each character’s look was based on those eras and hence again with research and keeping the characters real to the space and time added a lot of beauty with simplicity. The camera work, art and production design, has further added an amazing old world charm and beauty in every frame,” Sheetal explains.

With ‘Sita Ramam’ poised for theatrical release, its design aesthetic is set to play a crucial factor with the movie shot in diverse locales like Kashmir and Gujarat, feels the designer.

“Sita Ramam is a love story and it’s one of those very rare films made today where it takes you to the world that existed before. Love in those days was more eternal unlike now, the emotions in the story are so strong and very relatable. For a film with such emotions, I feel design and colours play a very important part and there are senses that will literally give you goosebumps and tears in the eyes. Hence, aesthetics also plays an equally important role. I feel great to be a part of such a film, Hanu explained it so well and I love how Swapna Dutt has the aesthetics of understanding how simplicity can add beauty.”

Directed by Hanu Raghavapudi, this romantic drama set against the backdrop of war follows the love story between a soldier played by Dulquer Salmaan and his lady love, played by Mrunal Thakur. Rashmika Mandanna plays a very significant role as Afreen in Sita Ramam.

Ahead of the release, the makers have shared some awe-inspiring character posters of actors Dulquer Salmaan as Lieutenant Ram, Mrunal Thakur, as the charming Sita, Rashmika Mandanna as the rebellious Afreen and Tharun Bhascker as Balaji which has created a lot of buzz and anticipation among the movie audiences.

Backed by Ashwini Dutt and Priyanka Dutt under the banner of Swapna Cinema, Sita Ramam is being presented by Vyjayanthi Movies and features Sumanth, Gautam Menon and Prakash Raj in important roles. The film features camerawork by PS Vinod and Vishal Chandrasekhar is rendering the music.

Sita Ramam will arrive in theatres worldwide on August 5 this year, in Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam.

Actor Dulquer Salmaan has penned a touching birthday wish for his ‘Sita Ramam’ co-star Mrunal Thakur, who celebrates her birthday on Monday.

Taking to Instagram, the actor, who posted a video clip of him dancing with Mrunal, wrote, ” Priyamaina Sita Mahalakshmi Gariki (To dear Sita Mahalakshmi), When I first heard the script of ‘Sita Ramam’, neither did the film have a cast locked nor did it have a title.

“I knew Sita Mahalakshmi was one of the most special characters I’ve read and she had a face you imagined in a classic epic. You came on board the film and you gave her a face and life.

“In our first meeting, when you said, “Macha are you ready”, I knew we would have the best time making the film and be great friends. I watched through the toughest shoot days and challenging weather how you held onto your portrayal of Sita. What you’ve done as Sita is one for the ages and I think forever more to audiences you’ll be synonymous with the name Sita Mahalakshmi.

“Thank you for being Sita to Ram. Cannot wait for August 5th where the world will watch ‘Sita Ramam’ and fall in love with Sita Mahalakshmi.

Actor and producer Dulquer Salmaan, who is busy promoting the release of his upcoming film,’Sita Ramam’ in Vijayawada, has become a big fan of the world famous Ulavucharu biryani available there.

On Sunday, Vyjayanthi Movies, the production house of ‘Sita Ramam’, tweeted a brief clip of Dulquer silently but swiftly polishing up a plate of the world famous biryani in Vijayawada.

Dulquer, in between mouthfuls of biryani, says: “Hi guys, trying the world famous Ulavucharu biryani, it is so yum.”

Dulquer Salmaan and Mrunal along with the team of ‘Sita Ramam’ on Sunday headed to Vijayawada to promote their film – a beautiful love story set against the backdrop of war in 1965. Dulquer Salmaan plays the character of Lieutenant Ram, an orphan, serving the nation in snow-clad mesmerising terrains and gleaming lakes of Kashmir.

Pairing with Dulquer is Mrunal Thakur as Sita Mahalakshmi, the leading lady of the film, along with Rashmika Mandanna in an impressive role.

Dulquer Salmaan affirmed that he tired of being called as a romantic hero, and thought of not doing love stories. But he couldn’t say no, when Hanu approached with the story of Sita Ramam. “It was so beautiful and amazing that, I decided to do it. But this probably is my last love story. Hanu is a passionate filmmaker. We went to some beautiful locations, which I didn’t visit before. We all connected to the story and the characters we played so much that, we referred to each other by our character names.”

Rashmika Mandanna has played a narrator in the movie. “It needs a narrator for beautiful films like these. I’m that person who narrates the love story of Sita and Ram. Afreen is a rebel and violent character. I initially worried, whether I can pull off it. I hope, I did well. My job is done, if you connect with the emotions and hate my character.”

Sita Ramam is due for release on August 5th.

The ‘Sita Ramam’ crew spent more than 30 days in Kashmir and finished their filming on time. The scenery was stunning, and the entire cast and crew of the movie had an enjoyable experience.

Talking about his first ever trip to Kashmir to shoot for ‘Sita Ramam’, Dulquer says: “This is my first time to Kashmir. Surprisingly, I had never got a chance to visit Kashmir before ‘Sita Ramam’, and this is my first personal and professional visit. It’s long been a big dream of mine to experience the valley. It was every bit as wonderful as people say it is and I can’t describe how breathtakingly beautiful Kashmir is.

“We got to shoot in Sonmarg and Srinagar and both were equally amazing. Sonmarg has mountains and snow and ski slopes and glaciers. Srinagar was like stepping back in time because of how historic it is. Most of the structures are still preserved as they were. The romantic Dal Lake and Shikharas were like poetry. I’m glad I got to experience all of it.”

The actor says the people around them were extremely kind, welcoming, and accommodating. “From those who looked after us at the hotels and shooting spots to even the local police, who made sure we were okay and told us to come back for more shoots and to encourage more films to be shot in Kashmir.

“Kashmir is so unique, it’s like stepping into a photograph or a painting or a film. It’s hard to take in the depth and beauty of Kashmir with your eyes and believe you are witnessing it in person. It’s that awe-inspiring.

“In a heartbeat. I would love to visit Gulmarg and Pahalgam. I want to someday do a skimobile safari as some friends I know have done. It would be a dream to spot a snow leopard in the wild,” he says.
