Not Talk But Money Matters!!

Most of the filmmakers gauge the success of a film based on the profits it brought but not with the factors such as whether it impressed the critics or audiences or if it can win awards etc. Nikhil’s “Keshava” is a perfect example of how a producer and his distributors can make merry irrespective of the reviews and word of mouth if they can deliver a film within budget and promote it well.

“Keshava” opened to below par reviews and the word of mouth also wasn’t encouraging. The film however became a box office success thanks to Nikhil’s track record and the interesting promos. After collecting superb revenues over the first weekend, the thriller performed substantially during the week days to take its distributors closer to safe zone.

Producer Abhishek Nama had allotted Rs 6.5 crore budget for “Keshava” and director Sudheer Vamra succeeded in making a technically strong film with the resources he had. By the end of first week, Keshava raked in a worldwide share of Rs 7 crore. If we add the revenues form satellite, digital and music rights, the producer has pocketed a cool Rs 4 crore profit, which is huge for a small budget film.

A filmmaker won’t care much about reviews and talk as long as his film is increasing his bank balance.
