Transition of Tamilisai: Rekindling the Debate on Governors’ Political Roles

The recent resignation of Tamilisai Soundararajan, the former Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, and the subsequent reports about her contesting in the 2024 general elections, reignites a perennial discussion in Indian politics. This development prompts scholars to revisit the discourse surrounding gubernatorial appointments and the role of governors in active politics.

The Debate:

Governors transitioning from their constitutional roles to active political participation inevitably raise concerns about the impartiality of gubernatorial appointments. While the Constitution of India does not explicitly bar politicians from becoming governors or re-entering active politics post-governorship, it emphasizes the importance of selecting individuals not engaged in active politics to uphold impartiality in governance. But it looks like the governments are in no mood to follow these guidelines.

Tamilisai Soundararajan’s Journey:

Tamilisai Soundararajan, a seasoned Indian politician, served as the Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. Prior to her gubernatorial tenure, she held prominent positions within the BJP. Despite her extensive political background, Soundararajan has faced electoral defeats in her attempts to secure parliamentary or assembly seats. She contested for Assembly as well as the parliament multiple times and faced defeats in each and every attempt. It seems now she is resolved to become MP in the 2024 elections.

Historical Precedents:

Soundararajan’s case is not an isolated incident. Throughout history, numerous leaders have transitioned between governor roles and active politics, blurring the lines between constitutional responsibilities and political affiliations. For example, leaders like Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed and Sheila Dikshit occupied gubernatorial positions after holding significant political offices. Leaders like Sushil Kumar Shinde moved from the role of Chief minister to governor and then to Lok Sabha leader.

Need for Guidelines:

The case of Tamilisai Soundararajan underscores the necessity for clearer guidelines in gubernatorial appointments. Political parties must prioritize selecting individuals with a track record of non-partisanship to uphold the integrity of the governor’s office. Moreover, governors intending to re-enter active politics should observe a cooling-off period to mitigate potential conflicts of interest.

The involvement of governors in active politics challenges the foundational principles of India’s constitutional framework. To preserve impartiality and fairness, political parties must exercise prudence in appointing governors and establish transparent guidelines for their transition into active political roles. This ensures that the governor’s office remains independent and insulated from partisan influences, thereby safeguarding the sanctity of India’s democratic institutions.

Revanth Reddy holds Praja Darbar, to have it every Friday

0

Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy held Praja Darbar at his official residence Jyothirao Pule Praja Bhavan in Begumpet of Hyderabad on Friday. He started meeting people at 10 am in the morning as announced yesterday after his swearing-in ceremony.

The officials have renamed the Pragati Bhavan as Jyothirao Pule Praja Bhavan as desired by Revanth Reddy. He also directed the officials to remove barricades in the area and keep the building open for the people to visit him.

Former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who built the Pragati Bhavan had restricted the entry of the people to the area for the past nine years. However, with his defeat and victory of the Congress, the new chief minister had opened the gates of the building and made it a people-friendly building.

Revanth Reddy is yet to move to the building officially. He is currently operating from his own house as the officials are making some changes to the building that suit the requirements of the new chief minister.

People are welcoming the holding of Praja Darbar by the new chief minister. They recall how late chief minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy used to hold the darbar and meet the people. Dr Reddy used to receive representations from the people on various issues and direct the officials to resolve them.

After almost 12 years, the residence of the chief minister is opened to the people to come and meet the chief minister. People are celebrating the change and have welcomed the decision of Revanth Reddy to meet them every Friday morning.

Revanth invites Naidu, Jagan, others for oath taking ceremony

0

Telangana chief minister designate A Revanth Reddy, had extended an invitation of Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagna Mohan Reddy, former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu for his oath taking ceremony to be held in Hyderabad on Thursday.

Revanth Reddy started his political career in Telugu Desam and was a trusted lieutenant of Chandrababu Naidu. He helped Chandrababu Naidu in many ways though he was not made a minister in the TDP government.

Revanth Reddy was part of the close coterie of Chandrababu Naidu till the state was divided in 2014. Later, Revanth Reddy joined the Congress and became its Telangana unit president. Now, he had successfully steered the party to victory in the just concluded Assembly elections.

It is for this reason, he had sent an invitation to Chandrababu Naidu to attend the oath taking ceremony. However, as a chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, he also sent the invitation to Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Revanth Reddy also extended invitations to Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin, Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah, deputy chief minister D K Siva Kumar, and Congress top leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, AICC president Mallikharjuna Kharge and others.

Meanwhile, the Telangana state government had made elaborate arrangements at the L B Stadium for the oath taking ceremony. Revanth Reddy had extended an invitation to the Congress workers from across the state to join the celebration.

The officials have put up VIP, VVIP and general public galleries at the stadium and have made elaborate security arrangements for the event. The Hyderabad police have completely taken over the stadium for the arrangements. Every activity is closely watched by the police at the stadium and other places.

Telangana police book a case against Naidu, others

0

The Telangana state police have booked a case against TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday. The case was booked following Naidu taking out a rally in Hyderabad on Wednesday from Begumpet to Jubilee Hills.

The TDP ranks received Chandrababu Naidu at Begumpet airport and accompanied him in a huge rally on his arrival after release from the jail. Naidu was arrested in the skill development scam and was sent to judicial remand to Rajamahendravaram central jail. He was released on bail on health grounds on October 30.

When he reached Hyderabad for the first time after release from the jail, the TDP workers and others gave a grand reception to Naidu in Hyderabad.

The Begumpet police have registered a case of violation of code of conduct in the elections. The case was registered as crime number 531/2023. The police booked cases section IPC 341, 290, 21 read with 76.

The Begumpet sub-inspector Jayachandar lodged a complaint with the police following which the police have registered the case.

The police said that the rally organised by the TDP leader had caused severe inconvenience to the people in Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, Chandrababu Naidu was admitted into the AIG hospital after a formal health check up. He would be there for two days, sources say. Later, he would undergo cataract surgery at the L V Prasad Eye Institute.

TSPSC’s Group-1 Exam Saga: Cancellations and Disappointments

0

In a series of unprecedented events, the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) has left aspirants and the political landscape in turmoil. The Group-1 Preliminary examination, which began its rollercoaster journey in October 2022, has seen multiple cancellations and legal wrangling, raising questions about the state’s administrative competence. High court verdict today to cancel the exam again become a topic of debate.

The Initial Cancellation due to paper leakage scandal:

In a surprising turn of events in March 2023, the TSPSC declared the cancellation of the Group-1 Preliminary examination, initially held on October 16, 2022. This decision came in response to a damning report submitted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) following a probe into question paper leaks. The fallout of this revelation was a blow to the hopes and dreams of thousands of aspirants who had diligently prepared for the exam. The paper leakage scam affected not only the Group 1 exam but also the other exams like AEE and DAO.

The Rescheduled Examination:

To rectify the situation, the TSPSC swiftly announced the rescheduled date for the cancelled Group-1 examination, setting it for June 11, 2023. This move aimed to provide a fair chance to aspirants who had been affected by the question paper leakage scandal. The anticipation and pressure were palpable as aspirants geared up for their second shot at the prestigious examination.

The Shocking High Court Verdict today

However, the Group-1 exam saga took another twist today when the High Court of Telangana delivered a surprising verdict. The court ruled that the exam held on June 11, 2023, was invalid due to a procedural error – biometric data collection was not implemented during the test. This shocking turn of events has left approximately two lakh candidates who appeared for the examination in a state of disarray and disappointment.

Implications for Aspirants and Politics :

The High Court’s verdict has cast a shadow of uncertainty over the futures of these aspirants, who had invested their time and effort into preparing for this highly competitive exam. The disappointment among the aspirant community is palpable, and the chaos resulting from these repeated cancellations and rescheduling has raised concerns about the TSPSC’s ability to conduct fair and efficient examinations.

At the same time unemployment is always a serious issue that affects the prospects of the incumbent governments. It is expected that this cancellation of exam will definitely have impact to some extent on the BRS government in the upcoming elections.

Rajaiah’s Secret Meeting with Damodar Raja Narasimha: From TRS to Congress?

1

Telangana MLA Rajaiah meeting former deputy chief minister and Congress leader Damodar Rajanarsimha secretly caused a sensation among political circles. As Rajaiah’s political trajectory has taken some unexpected turns in recent times, this meeting has a significant political impact.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), led by Chief Minister KCR, recently released its initial list of MLA candidates for the upcoming elections. With names unveiled for 115 constituencies, the focus was on minimal changes to the existing roster of sitting MLAs. However, one notable omission from the list was MLA Rajaiah. Rajaiah’s exclusion from the candidate list might seem like a regular political development, but it’s essential to understand the context. His political career has been marred by allegations of sexual harassment from multiple individuals. These allegations have cast a shadow over his political future and have likely contributed to his absence from the candidate list. Notably, the Station Ghanpur ticket, which Rajaiah held, was announced for Kadiyam Srihari in his place.

Despite his omission from the BRS candidate list, Rajaiah has maintained his faith in Chief Minister KCR. Some political observers speculated that he might receive a Member of Parliament (MP) ticket from BRS, indicating that he might still have a role to play within the party. However, in a surprising twist, Rajaiah recently had a clandestine meeting with Congress leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha. This meeting has sparked speculation about Rajaiah’s potential shift in political loyalties to the Congress party. One significant aspect that fuels these speculations is the shared community and rapport between Rajaiah and Rajanarasimha. Both leaders belong to the same community, and their longstanding relationship adds weight to the rumors of Rajaiah joining Congress. It’s important to note that Rajaiah’s political journey has been far from linear. He was initially a member of the Congress party before making a significant move to TRS during the Telangana movement. Now, as the political tides ebb and flow, he appears to be exploring options beyond the BRS.

As the election season in Telangana gains momentum, Rajaiah’s political future remains uncertain – Will he secure a ticket from Congress? Or will he continue in BRS?

Delayed Justice: Telangana HC Disqualifies Gadwala MLA, Shifts Power to DK Aruna

1

A seismic shock reverberated through Telangana’s political landscape as Gadwala MLA Krishnamohan Reddy was declared ineligible by the Telangana High Court on Thursday. The court’s verdict stemmed from allegations of Reddy submitting a false affidavit, rendering his election as an MLA invalid. The consequences were swift and pivotal, with DK Aruna of the BJP being declared the new MLA, a decision accompanied by a substantial Rs. 50,000 fine paid to her from the Rs. 3 lakh penalty levied on Reddy.

DK Aruna, a prominent figure in Telangana politics, has traversed a varied political journey. She previously served as the MLA of Gadwala from 2004 to 2018, switching party affiliations while amassing an impressive political portfolio. Her defeat in the 2018 Telangana Assembly elections against her cousin Bandla Krishnamohan Reddy marked a significant turn. Aruna’s shift to the BJP in 2019 further underlines her political dynamism.

This verdict aligns with a broader trend of disqualification cases that the Telangana High Court has been addressing. Underpinning these developments is the Supreme Court’s directive to conclude all cases of public representatives’ disqualifications by the end of the month. As justice unfolds, the implications of these disqualifications are felt across the state’s political spectrum, accentuating the adage that delayed justice may indeed amount to denied justice.

Telangana DSC Notification Adds to AP Government’s Woes

1

The education sector in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh recently witnessed significant developments in terms of teacher recruitment. In Telangana, the long-awaited DSC (District Selection Committee) notification for filling vacant teacher positions was released on August 24th, 2023. This announcement by Telangana Education Minister Sabita Indra Reddy came as a relief to many aspiring teachers. The notification unveiled a total of 5089 teacher job openings, accompanied by a replacement notification for 1523 other posts. This move is expected to address the pressing issue of teacher vacancies in the state.

In contrast, Andhra Pradesh’s education sector is grappling with unmet promises. In July 2023, Education Minister Botsa Satyanarayana assured the release of a Mega DSC notification in August, coupled with filling vacancies across various government departments. However, the reality has cast a shadow of doubt on the state government’s commitment. Aspirants’ hopes have dwindled as Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who came to power on the pledge of a transparent job calendar, has struggled to fulfill this promise. Frustration among unemployed individuals has intensified, as they perceive a discrepancy between the government’s assurances and actions.

Ensuring that job notifications are released promptly and commitments are honored contributes to building public trust and reducing unemployment concerns. As both states navigate their respective challenges, the focus on effective governance and fulfilling promises remains crucial. We need to wait and see if YSRCP government will release job notifications soon.

CWC’s Selection Oversight: Telangana Leaders Left Out

1

The recent unveiling of the new Congress working Committee led by national president Mallikharjun Kharge has spotlighted a notable omission. While senior leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi found their place, key figures from Telangana were conspicuously absent from the Congress Working Committee (CWC), a decision that could have consequences as the state gears up for assembly elections.

Kharge introduced a 39-member CWC, including 32 permanent members and 13 special invitees. Curiously, while Andhra Pradesh secured representation with Raghuveera Reddy, the same courtesy wasn’t extended to Telangana leaders. Moreover, AP Congress leader and industrialist T. Subbirami Reddy is named as Permanent invitee and leaders like Pallam Raju named as special invitee. Despite Telangana’s pivotal role in the political landscape, the absence of active Telangana figures in the CWC raises concerns. This decision came as shocker to Telangana leaders like Revant Reddy and Uttam Kumar Reddy.

With assembly elections looming, this exclusion risks alienating Telangana’s voters and marring Congress’s ability to address some issues. The decision of high command , to include couple of leaders from AP where Congress party doesn’t have any stakes and not considering any leader from the region of Telangana where the Congress party is the main opposition, perplexed political observers as well as the common man.

As Telangana’s assembly elections inch closer, it’s evident that Congress’s decision to sideline key Telangana leaders from decision-making forums like the CWC was a missed opportunity.

Tense Situation Unfolds at TSPSC Office Amidst Exam Postponement Demands

0

The atmosphere at the TSPSC (Telangana State Public Service Commission) office was charged with tension today as a multitude of candidates, along with student unions and political groups, attempted to surround the premises. The focal demand of the protest was the postponement of the Group 2 examination to a more suitable date. Here are the details.

Issue from Exam aspirants point of View:

For several years, students and unemployed individuals in Telangana have been earnestly preparing for competitive exams. Although there were relatively fewer notifications released in the past four years, a surge of notifications and exam schedules occurred in the final year of the ruling government. The contentious issue emerged due to the Telangana Residential Educational Institutions Recruitment Board’s decision to conduct Gurukula exams from August 1 to 22, followed by the Group 2 exams a mere week later on August 29 and 30. Furthermore, Junior Lecturer (JL) exams were also slated for the same month. In the wake of these consecutive exams, candidates found themselves grappling with inadequate preparation time. Despite expressing their concerns, the TSPSC remained firm in maintaining the existing schedule. Numerous student organizations and unions have collectively appealed to the TSPSC for a rescheduling. As the impending exam dates drew closer, thousands of Group 2 aspirants converged at the TSPSC office premises to stage a protest. Extending their solidarity, political parties like the Congress and Telangana Jana Samithi came forth to support the candidates. The protest saw participation from prominent figures such as Professor Kodandaram and Addanki Dayakar.

Issue from TSPSC point of View:

Simultaneously, the TSPSC grapples with its own challenges in finalizing examination schedules. The commission aims to conduct exams on holidays to minimize disruption to schools and colleges, which are used as examination centers. However, boards getting approvals for multiple exams in the last one year has proven to be a hurdle. Allegations have arisen that the ruling parties are influencing boards to issue multiple notifications in the last one year of their ruling instead of spacing them in the span of 5 years of the ruling.

Currently, the situation remains tense at the TSPSC office, with law enforcement facing challenges in managing the crowd and redirecting traffic.

Film Celebrities Eye Debut in 2023 Telangana Elections

1

As the 2023 Telangana assembly elections draw near, a wave of film celebrities is gearing up to try their hand at politics. Some intend to step into the political arena by contesting, while others focus on rallying behind their preferred leaders. Here’s a closer look.

The Indian political landscape has witnessed the emergence of numerous movie stars, particularly in Telugu states, where several film personalities have already made their mark. With each election, a fresh avenue opens for film celebrities to make their political debut. As per the grapevine, Rahul Sipligunj, a well-known folk and playback singer is all set to try his luck in Telangana politics. He started his career as a singer but his victory in Bigg Boss Telugu Season 3 earned him lots of fame. Then, his popularity seems to have reached the pinnacle as he performed the “Natu Natu” song on the Oscar stage. The Congress party has reportedly approached Rahul, offering him an MLA seat. It is known thing that Rahul comes from a backward caste (Nayi Brahmin) and comes from a very humble background. Rahul’s apparent interest in the offer has sparked attention.

In a similar vein, film producer Dil Raju appears to have a political itch, though he has his sights set on the upcoming general elections of 2024. Following his statement that he could become a Member of Parliament regardless of party affiliation, multiple political parties have shown keen interest in his potential candidacy. Dil Raju, however, remains tight-lipped, preferring to await the right moment. Speculation suggests he might consider contesting an MP seat in the 2024 elections if he feels confident about his chances of victory.

The trend is not confined to Telangana alone; come 2024, Andhra Pradesh might also witness an influx of celebrities participating in or backing electoral campaigns. The political sphere awaits these debutants, with the outcome of their political forays yet to be determined. The unfolding elections will reveal the extent of success these new entrants achieve in the realm of politics.

BJP gets new presidents in Telugu States

0

The BJP national leadership on Tuesday appointed new presidents for the party state units in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The party removed incumbents Somu Veerraju in Andhra Pradesh and Bandi Sanjay in Telangana.

The two were replaced with former union minister Daggubati Purandheswari for Andhra Pradesh and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy for Telangana. The two appointments come as the party national leadership gears up for the next round of general elections in the two Telugu states.

Telangana is set to go for elections in November-December this year, while Andhra Pradesh is scheduled to go for elections in March-April next year.

In Andhra Pradesh, it was initially thought that BJP national secretary Y Sathya Kumar would be appointed as the party chief replacing Somu Veerraju. However, the party national leadership changed the decision appointing Purandheswari as the party chief.

Purandheswari’s appointment comes at a time when there is a talk about the BJP having alliance with the TDP and Jana Sena for the coming general election. The Jana Sena is already in alliance with the BJP while the TDP is said to be holding talks over restoring the ties.

The TDP broke its alliance with the BJP in 2018 over the demand of special category status to the state which was part of the promises made to AP at the time of bifurcation in 2014. The TDP also aligned with the Congress in the 2019 general election and lost the electoral battle.

Keeping those differences aside, the TDP is looking forward to an alliance with the BJP to come back to power in the state. Its ties with the Jana Sena are said to have already been worked out and a formal announcement is awaited.

TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu held the initial talks with BJP national president J P Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah a month ago. Before the second round of talks were to begin, the BJP had changed the leadership in the state.

It is now to be seen how the alliance talks would go forward with the change of the leadership!

Don’t subscribe to view that BJP or Congress should be nucleus of any front: KTR

0

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which skipped the meeting of opposition parties held in Patna on Friday, has made it clear that it doesn’t subscribe to the view that the BJP or the Congress should be the nucleus of any front or coalition.

BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao hinted that BRS will maintain equidistance from both the Congress and the BJP and it maintains that people and not parties should unite.

“We believe in uniting people on issues and not in uniting parties,” he told media persons in New Delhi. Interestingly, he was in the national capital to meet Union Ministers on a day when leaders of 15 opposition parties, including the Congress, met in Patna and decided to work together.

KTR, as the leader is popularly known, stated that any effort will be successful only when people unite and not parties. “Even if 20 parties unite and there is no outcome, which is people-centric, there is no point in it. It can’t hinge on your blind hatred for one party or another,” he said.

“If you have to ensure that people vote for you, you have to tell what you have done when given the opportunity. Unfortunately, the Congress can’t claim much.

“A simple philosophy we have been championing is that it’s not about uniting political parties. The agenda should be to unite people on issues. Unfortunately, in India political rhetoric eclipses everything around it,” he remarked.

“We have maintained all along that people should unite, based on people centric issues. Unfortunately, the whole ecosystem that has been built is that the BJP or Congress should be the nucleus of any front or coalition. This is something we don’t subscribe to,” the BRS leader said.

KTR alleged that both Congress and BJP have miserably failed in ensuring development of the country during the last 75 years despite people giving them huge opportunities. “Congress was given 50 years to administer the nation and BJP was given 15 years. If today you look around, our neighbours are doing better and so many countries moved on in the last seven decades while our country is where it was,” he said.

“If India still has villages without electricity and drinking water, it is because of these two national parties. There is a need for people to unite against both these parties. We will continue our efforts to unite people on the basis of issues against these two parties,” he added.

KTR stated that the BRS will continue its efforts to expand itself in other states. “If a small state like Telangana is able to do wonders in a short span of nine years, the rest of the country has a lot to pick and learn. We want the Telangana model of development to be replicated across the country. That is why we are spreading wings and ambitions to other parts of India including Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh,” he said.

KTR launched a scathing attack on Congress while reacting to the allegation by its leaders that his BRS skipped the Patna meeting as it is the “B team” of BJP.

“Everyone knows how Congress and BJP colluded in Nizamabad and Karimnagar parliamentary constituencies. People know who is colluding with whom,” he said.

He dubbed Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the weakest Prime Minister in the history of independent India and said that his party has been ahead of others in criticising Modi’s “inefficiency”.

To another query about Congress, he said: “Congress has been a disaster for this nation. They have been, in fact, the root cause for every malice that plagues India today. The fact that Congress has been given 50 years at governance has not been able to deliver reflects in their mindset and in their silly criticism.”

KTR meets Rajnath Singh, seeks transfer of defence lands in Hyderabad

0

Telangana’s Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K.T. Rama Rao on Friday called on Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi and requested him to transfert certain defence lands in Hyderabad to the state government for development of skyways and other various infrastructure projects.

After the meeting, Rama Rao said the state government had requested the Centre for transfer of lands for developing skyways. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao himself had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make the request but there was no response.

“Defence Ministers are changing but there is no change in the stand of the Central government,” said KTR, as Rama Rao is popularly known.

The state minister told media persons that the state government had been requesting the Centre to transfer defence lands for construction of skyways from Jubilee Bus Stand to Rajiv Rahdari, from Paradise Circle to Medchal ORR. He said he met Rajnath Singh to make a request once again.

KTR said that if the Defence Ministry comes forward to give 96 acres of land for Jubilee Bus Stand-Rajiv Rahadari skyway and 56 acres for Paradise Circle-Medchal ORR skyway, the state government would give alternate lands of equal value.

He said the state government was also developing skywalks. While the skywalk at Uppal has been completed, the work on the skyway at Mehdipatnam was stalled as the Defence Ministry had not given the permission.

The state has also sought defence land for a road to link Golconda and Ibrahim Bagh. It also demanded transfer of unused defence lands in Secunderabad Cantonment to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) so that hospitals and community halls can be constructed for local people.

KTR said he would meet Union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Saturday to once again request approval for extending Metro Rail from Lakdi Ka Pul to BHEL and from Nagole to LB Nagar.

He said the state government submitted DPRs to the Centre several times. The minister said while the state government has provided funds towards its share in MMTS, there was no response from the Centre.

He claimed that the state government completed several works under Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP) but the work at Rasoolpura could not be completed as the Union Home Ministry had to transfer 3-4 acres of land. He said he would try to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah over this issue.

KTR said that he wants the Centre to support the state government’s efforts to strengthen public transport system in Hyderabad

He demanded that the Centre also approve extension of Metro Rail from Patancheru to Hayat Nagar.

Stating that Telangana received no support from the Centre for nine years, the BRS leader said that it appears that the Centre may continue its discrimination towards the state. KTR made it clear that if there is no change in the Centre’s approach, the BRS would take this issue to the people.

He questioned the Centre when it can sanction Metro Rail to 10 small cities in Uttar Pradesh, why can’t it cooperate with Telangana for extending Metro in Hyderabad. He also wanted to know why the Centre, which provided no funds for Hyderabad during floods, extended the assistance for flood relief in Gujarat and other BJP-ruled states.

KTR reminded BJP that there are Telangana funds in the development of poor states ruled by it. He said the BJP leaders should thank Telangana people and the government for their contribution in the national development.

India’s largest private rail coach factory was inaugurated at Kondakal village in Rangareddy district near Hyderabad on Thursday.

Chief Minister K. Chandrsekhar Rao inaugurated the facility built by Medha Servo Drives Private Limited, a Telangana company which designs and manufactures complex electrical and electronic Railway products.

The Chief Minister said Telangana was proud that a home grown company will be building rail coaches in the state. He expressed happiness over the company bagging Mono rail order from Mumbai.

As part of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014, Telangana was promised a Rail Coach Factory within six months of its formation. However, despite repeated appeals by the state government, this did not become a reality.

In 2017, Medha Group had signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC) to establish a private rail coach factory.

It was on August 13, 2020 that Industries Minister K.T. Rama Rao had laid the foundation stone for the factory.

It was then announced that with an investment of Rs 1,000 crore, the private rail coach factory will have a production capacity of 500 coaches and 50 locomotives per year.

Spread over 100 acres, the factory will develop all types of railway rolling stock including coaches, train sets, locomotives, Metro trains and Monorails.

He announced that by the end of this year, total coach manufacturing for Monorail project will happen at the facility. “With second and third phases of the project, we plan to manufacture Railway products not just for India but the world,” he said.

Medha claims to be the only Indian company that has in-house R&D facilities. It is also currently manufacturing bogies for the Indian Railways and will soon commence manufacturing of the complete Mumbai Monorail train sets.

Medha also owns various subsidiary companies including in Spain, Italy, USA, Brazil and Poland for serving Railway customers across the world.

Medha Servo Drives has also signed a joint venture (JV) agreement with Swiss railway rolling stock manufacturer Stadler Rail for a new rail coach manufacturing factory in Telangana.

Stadler, headquartered in Bussnang, Switzerland, has been building rail vehicles for over 80 years. It has been manufacturing railway rolling stock and has a dominant market share across the global railway market.

The Joint Venture will use the proposed Telangana Unit to cater to its tenders from the Indian market and exports from customers across the Asia Pacific region

Medha was established in 1984 and has been supplying various products to Railways since 1990. It is the largest propulsion equipment (Electronics) supplier to Indian Railways.

It is also the largest traction motor manufacturer for Railways and also largest Indian company supplying advanced signaling and safety systems

The company has an annual turnover of Rs 2,500 crore and has employed about 5,000 people.

Kasyap Reddy said Medha was also bringing innovative technologies to India in areas like solar inverters, propulsion system for battery electric vehicles and canal automation systems. It also made foray into defence manufacturing by signing a MoU to develop large propulsion motors for the Indian Navy.

TSIIC has also allotted 25 acres of land at E-City to Medha for the manufacture of Solar PV Inverters.

Medha will be investing Rs 80 crore in two phases and will be creating employment of 210 people across both phases.

Telangana Congress leaders detained to foil state-wide protest

0

Telangana Congress leaders were either placed under house arrest or taken into preventive custody across the state on Thursday in view of the planned protest by the opposition party to coincide with culmination of the decennial state formation celebrations by the state government.

Police placed top Congress leaders under house arrest to prevent them from participating in planned protests.

The 21-day-long celebrations are coming to an end on Thursday. The Congress party has dubbed the occasion ‘Dashabdi Dhaga’ (a decade of cheating) and called for protests across the state.

Congress leaders in districts were taken into preventive custody or placed under house arrest. Senior leader and former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir was placed under house arrest in Hyderabad.

On the last day of the celebrations, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is set to inaugurate Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial ‘Amara Deepam’ which has come up in front of the state Secretariat on the banks of Hussain Sagar lake in Hyderabad.

The Congress party condemned the house arrests. It termed the arrests of party leaders and activists protesting peacefully as the murder of democracy and demanded the Director General of Police to unconditionally release them.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) A. Revanth Reddy termed the arrest of Congress leaders as undemocratic. He said in the name of state formation day celebrations, the ruling party was running a campaign by spending public money. He alleged that KCR did not fulfill a single promise made to people.

He alleged that Chief Minister KCR extended no help to the families of the martyrs who laid down their lives for Telangana. He said that the KCR family undermined the aspirations of the martyrs and looted the state of Telangana as its own fiefdom. The Congress Party will continue to fight on behalf of the people of Telangana until their exploitation is stopped and the aspirations of the immortals are fulfilled, reads a tweet from official handle of TPCC.

The Congress had asked its supporters to burn effigies representing CM KCR, likening him to Dashanana Ravanasura with 10 heads, each symbolising a broken election promise.

Revanth Reddy had said that each head of KCR will depict failed promises such as the KG-to-PG free education scheme, fee reimbursement, unemployment allowance, employment for every household, 2BHK housing, 3 acres for Dalits, podu land pattas, loan waiver, employment, 12 per cent reservation for minorities, and 12 per cent reservation for STs. He also alleged that the BRS government failed to honour Telangana martyrs.
