KCR directs ministers, officials to stay alert amid heavy rains

0

Amid heavy rainfall in Telangana and massive inflows from upper riparian states into Godavari and Krishna rivers, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday instructed ministers and MLAs to remain in their districts to monitor the flood situation from time to time.

Due to heavy inflows from the catchment areas, projects’ gates have been lifted in the upper riparian states, leading to waters reaching into Telangana.

Rao issued his directions to legislators especially in the constituencies through which these rivers flow.

Likewise, he also directed Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) leaders and cadres to be available at the Telangana Bhavan to monitor the situation.

“Along with officials in the catchments areas, TRS leadership from gram sarpanch to the ministers should ensure that people are not put to any hardship,” said the Chief Minister.

As heavy rain forecast is there for the next two days, Rao suggested people not to venture out and exercise caution.

The CM urged public representatives to be on high alert and take necessary measures.

Rao highlighted that the intensity of flood is increasing in the Godavari catchment areas due to heavy rains in the upper reaches of SRSP.

He instructed Minister Vemula Prasanth Reddy to monitor preventive measures at Balkonda Assembly segment and Nizamabad district where heavy rains are being witnessed.

Similarly, Rao directed chief secretary Somesh Kumar to depute NDRF teams to Nirmal town which is submerged in water.

District collectors, superintendents of police, revenue officials and R&B officers have been directed to undertake preventive measures in the Godavari catchment areas.

The CM urged people to watch out for swollen lakes and rivulets which are overflowing and breaching due to heavy rains.

Is this politician Telangana’s Narada?

0

Is former MP and ace industrialist Konda Vishweshwar Reddy emerging as the Narada among politicians in Telangana? Konda’s present actions are raising questions about his political plans and future moves. He is seen along with politicians of diverse and even opposing ideologies.

Konda began his political journey by joining the TRS, which made him its candidate in Loksabha polls in 2014. However, he soon parted the TRS company and joined the Congress Party. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he was the Congress candidate. He again contested from Chevella and lost. In 2020, he suddenly announced that he was resigning from the Congress Party. Then everyone thought he would join the BJP. He too had dropped some hints that he was inching closer to the BJP. Later, kept away from the BJP. Currently, he is not a member of any political party.

The other day, he went and met the new TPCC president Revanth Reddy. Suddenly the analysts and pundits went into a tizzy over whether he would join the TRS. Earlier too, he had said that he would rejoin the Congress if Revanth Reddy becomes the PCC chief. Meanwhile, in another sudden turn of events, Konda met Eatala Rajender. He and former MP AP Jitender Reddy (BJP) drove over to Huzurabad and met Eatala on Wednesday afternoon. They met Eatala during his padayatra and remained closeted in a car for over half-an-hour. Well! No one knows what was discussed. But it was clear that the Huzurabad bypolls had figured in the talks.

Which party is Konda in now? Will he join the BJP or the Congress? Will he be friendly with Revanth and pally with the BJP. Will he support the Congress but help Eatala win the elections? Lots of questions but no clear answers. Will Konda himself tell us which party he is in?

AP, TS water war boils Parliament!

1

The ongoing Krishna water row between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana rocked Parliament today (Thursday).

The MPs from AP and TS raised this issue in the Parliament.

The trouble started in Lok Sabha when YSRCP MP Avinash Reddy raised this issue alleging that Telangana is building illegal irrigation projects over Krishna.

He demanded Centre to immediately stop TS government’s illegal projects on Krishna.

Reddy’s comments created a furore in the House as TRS MPs strongly protested and demanded Speaker Om Birla to remove his comments from records.

TRS MPs charged AP government of building illegal Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme and Pothireddy expansion project over Krishna and looting Telangana’s share in Krishna.

TRS MPs said Telangana government is building only old projects on Krishna that were approved in Undivided AP but AP government is constructing new illegal projects on Krishna.

This led to heated arguments between TRS and YSRCP MPs. Both raised slogans against each other.

TRS MPs demanded Centre to withdraw recent gazette notification taking control of all projects on Krishna and Godavari and deployment of CRPF forces.

However Jal Shakti minister Shekhawat claimed that gazette was issued to protect the interests of both the states.

Rich resources bestowed on Telangana lost under AP rulers: KCR

0

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday said the state, which was richly bestowed with all kinds of resources, lost out under rulers from the earlier united Andhra Pradesh.

His assertion came as he noted how the state overtook Rajasthan to emerge as the top sheep producer in the country.

“A Central minister personally told me about sheep production and supply,” KCR, as the Chief Minister is popularly known, said.

He claimed that farmers used to commit suicide due to lack of electric power earlier but now they are confident with the fulfilment of goals of the Rythu Bandhu scheme, for which he had brainstormed for six months.

Telangana is on top with per capita power consumption of 2,070 MW, he said.

The CM also claimed that Dalits have suffered injustices from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, and the Dalit Bandhu scheme is not a stunt for the polls which are more than two years away.

Is this Chandrababu’s game plan for Telangana?

What is Chandrababu Naidu’s game-plan in appointing Bakkani Narsimhulu as the party president for Telangana? Bakkani without doubt is a loyal TDP man and has been with the party through thick

and thin. He did not even make an attempt to join any other party. But, can he be the right choice for the party, which is hoping to revive and reinvent itself in the key Telugu state of Telangana?

TDP’s long-standing Telangana state unit president L Ramana has recently resigned and joined the TRS. Since then, the party remained headless in Telangana. After much deliberation, Chandrababu Naidu appointed Bakkani Narsimhulu as the party chief. This has surprised many as there were senior hands like former MP Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy. Reddy had held senior positions for decades and can reorganise and resurrect the party. But, ignoring his credentials, Chandrababu opted for Bakkani.

Though fiercely loyal, Bakkani did not have a sparkling career. He was MLA for one term from Shadnagar. He is relatively unknown even in Shadnagar these days. A Dalit and known to be highly religious, Bakkani made a name for himself as a preacher of Bhagavad Gita in Shadnagar and surrounding areas. It was this popularity that brought him into politics.

But, will he be able to rise up to the situation and rebuild the TDP? Will he leverage his Dalit status and try to bring those sections closer to the TDP? These are the questions being asked ever since he has been appointed the party president for the Telangana state unit. Interestingly, Bakkani himself has said that it was only the TDP that has made a Dalit the party president. No other party as a Dalit as the state chief, he said.

As Singareni polls near, KCR raises retirement age to 61-yrs

As Singareni Collieries elections near, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has decided to increase the retirement age of Singareni Collieries workers and employees from 58 years to 61 years.

The trade union elections assume importance as its nearly 55,000 voters play a major role in deciding the electoral fortunes in as many as 12 assembly constituencies spread over five districts– Adilabad, Mancherial, Karimnagar, Peddapalli and Bhadradri Kothagudem.

The CM has instructed Singareni MD Sridhar to decide on the date for the implementation of the new retirement age in the Board meeting to be held on July 26 and announce the same.

The CM also decided to set up Singareni medical college in Ramagundam Assembly segment. Orders in this regard will be issued shortly.

The CM held a review meeting here at Pragathi Bhavan on Tuesday with
the public representatives on Singareni area issues and solutions .

The previous elections were held in October 2017, which TRS affiliated workers union won with a good majority.

Though its term extended in 2020, the Centre postponed elections due to Covid.

All the four major parties in Telangana, the TRS, BJP, Congress and CPI are focusing on these elections seriously.

Kaushik Reddy to join TRS tomorrow, is he Huzurabad candidate?

0

Padi Kaushik Reddy, who quit Congress last week, has decided to join TRS on Wednesday (tomorrow).

Kaushik Reddy contested as Congress candidate against then TRS candidate Etela Rajender in 2018 December Assembly polls but he lost by 43,719 votes. Etela secured 1.04 lakh votes, while Kaushik got 61,121 votes. All other parties lost their deposits.

Ever since Etela quit TRS and Assembly seat in June, Kaushik Reddy is waging a war against him in Huzurabad constituency with an aim to contest bypoll and defeat Etela.

Kaushik was trying for Congress ticket and at the same time TRS ticket to contest against Etela.

But the unexpected developments in Telangana Congress following the appointment of A Revanth Reddy as new TPCC chief on June 26 changed the fortunes of Kaushik Reddy in Congress.

There were speculations that Revanth was against Kaushik Reddy and wants to filed former MP Ponnam Prabhakar in his place in Huzurabad bypoll after there were reports in media that Kaushik Reddy met TRS working president KTR and also maintaining ‘secret relations’ with TRS.

At this stage, an audio clip of Kaushik Reddy which was leaked and went viral on social media platforms has put Kaushik Reddy in a fix. In the audio clip, he was heard telling Huzurabad local TRS youth leader that TRS high command has confirmed TRS ticket for him in the bypoll.

The TPCC issued show-cause notice to Kaushik. But instead of replying to show cause notice, Kaushik resigned to Congress and levelled serious allegations against Revanth Reddy alleging that Revanth became TPCC chief by bribing Rs 50 crore to AICC Telangana affairs incharge Manickam Tagore.

With Kaushik Reddy deciding to join TRS on Wednesday, speculations are rife in TRS circles that KCR wants to field Kaushik Reddy from TRS against Etela as Kaushik has put up a good fight against Etela in 2018 and has more chances to win against Etela on TRS ticket in the bypoll.

Stopped from attending Parliament, Revanth complains to Speaker

0

Congress MP and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief A. Revanth Reddy on Monday complained to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla that police prevented him from attending Parliament session by placing him under house arrest.

The Lok Sabha member from Malkajgiri has written to the Speaker that Telangana Police at the instance of the chief minister, the chief secretary and the DGP obstructed him from discharge of his duties as a Parliamentarian to attend Parliament and voice out the people’s concerns.

Revanth Reddy said he had decided to raise in Parliament the issue relating to the state government selling government land at throwaway prices to their relatives and ruling party functionaries.

“Despite the fact that I have to attend the Parliament Session which scheduled from today and repeated requests to the officials concerned, the Telangana State Police at the instance of the chief minister, chief secretary, DGP have obstructed my discharge of duties as Parliamentarian to attend the Parliament and voice out the people’s concerns,” the MP wrote.

“I was prevented from attending Parliament which offends the parliamentary privileges during the progress of the session, permission of the Hon’ble Speaker is absolutely necessary to arrest the parliamentarian, particularly when it is a political arrest,” Revant Reddy added.

The MP sought the Speaker’s intervention to enable him to attend Parliament and proceed against authorities mentioned by him for violation of parliamentary privileges.

Revanth Reddy was placed under house arrest in Hyderabad early Monday by the police. According to police, this was done to prevent him from staging a protest in the Kokapet area where the state government last week auctioned government lands.

Alleging Rs 1,000 crore scam in e-auction, Revanth Reddy has demanded fresh auction of the lands in a transparent manner through ‘Swiss Challenge’.

Is KCR planning to shift from Pragathi Bhavan?

1

The rumour mill has gone into a tizzy over the possibility of KCR shifting his place of residence. There are reports that KCR is planning to move to his Nandinagar residence. His recent visit to Nandinagar residence along with his family members has lent credence to these rumours.

KCR has been facing a constant criticism from the Opposition parties and even the general public that he has become the farmhouse or pragathi bhavan CM. A lot of memes about his visits to farmhouse and his staying put in the Pragathi Bhavan have gone viral on the social media. With the political heat rising in AP with the hyper activism of PCC chief Revanth Reddy and the padayatra of Bandi Sanjay, KCR may have felt that it is better to move to his Nandinagar residence. This would deflect the criticism of his being a Pragathi Bhavan CM.

In fact, during the Telangana movement, the Nandinagar residence was a beehive of activity. It was in this residence that he has planned strategies and launched movements. It was here that he met the VVIPs and fought for the separate state. Ever since he became the CM, he has converted Pragathi Bhavan into both his official and residential headquarters.

Of late, there has been a perceptible change in KCR. He has recently toured some districts and is planning to tour many more districts. He is holding public meetings at these places and is interacting with the grassroots level functionaries. KCR is now contemplating of covering all the districts in the state in the coming months. This apart, he is also going to inaugurate the district level party offices. Increased outreach and accessibility coupled with change of residence will help KCR in stealing the march over the opposition, say analysts.

Revanth-Devender Goud meet: PCC chief makes a splash, buts comes back empty handed

1

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief Revanth Reddy is continuing to create a buzz and he has some ace up his sleeve every day. On Sunday evening, he sprang a surprise by calling on former TDP heavyweight and former home minister of the undivided AP, Devender Goud. He, party’s senior leaders Madhu Yashki Goud and Mallu Ravi, went over to the Tukkuguda residence of Devender Goud and held discussions for well over half-an –hour.

With this, the rumour mill went into a tizzy claiming that Devender Goud was joining the Congress Party. There were also rumours that Devender Goud’s son Veerender Goud too was joining the party. There were rumours that Vijender, who has joined the BJP after the 2019 elections, was upset at not being given any party position in the BJYM. Sources said he was considering resigning the party.

However, it turned out that both Devender and son Vijender Goud did not make any big bang announcement. Vijender Goud said that both Revanth and Madhu Goud came over to discuss several issues pertaining to the state politics. He said that he would continue to be in the BJP and said there could be points of convergence among all the opposition parties.

Madhu Yashki, who claimed he was like a family member of Devender Goud, termed the latter as a treasure trove of knowledge and experience. He said they have come to discuss the issues relating to development and progress of Telangana. Revanth Reddy said he would continue to come and seek the advice of Devender Goud. He said both Devender Goud and late S Jaipal Reddy were symbols of probity in public life. Over all, throughout the day Revanth Reddy trended on the social media and managed to hog the limelight on the electronic media. But, the end turned out to be an anti-climax as both father and the son were non-committal.

No Etela, no minister post for Harish Rao!

1

Sacked health minister and BJP leader Etela Rajender on Sunday made sensational comments on senior TRS leader and finance minister T Harish Rao.

Addressing a meeting of BJP party activists in Huzurabad, Etela revealed how Harish Rao got minister post for a second time in KCR cabinet after TRS came to power for second term in December 2018.

Etela said after KCR became CM for the second term in December 2018, KCR had decided not to take me and Harish into his cabinet.

For that reason, KCR formed cabinet with just one minister Mahmood Ali on December 12, 2018 and he continued the one-member cabinet for over two months till February 19, 2019.

After I raised a strong protest in February 2019, he took me into the cabinet but kept Harish out,” Etela said.

“I felt bad after Harish was kept out of cabinet because myself and Harish worked for TRS sincerely and committedly since 2001 and we both took part in Telangana statehood agitation till 2014 actively and worked day and night to strenghen and protect TRS from the onslaught of then Andhra rulers.I waited till August with the hope that Harish will be inducted into the cabinet. With no indications from KCR in this regard, I raised my voice again on August 29, 2019 at a meeting in Huzurabad saying TRS party does not belong to a single individual or family but to all those who fought for Telangana since the inception of party in 2001. I said those who worked in TRS from the beginning are all owners of the party,” Etela recalled.

Etela stated that only after he made these comments on August 29, 2019, KCR feared revolt in TRS and took Harish into his cabinet within a week on September 8, 2019.

Etala said although Harish may be criticising him today under the pressure of KCR and his family, he knows from the bottom of his heart that he got minister post for second time because of Etela Rajender and if Etela was not there for him in those days, KCR would have thrown Harish out of TRS then itself like I was thrown out of TRS now.

Telangana minister to rescue farmer who lost Rs 2L cash to rats

0

Telangana Minister for Tribal, Women and Child welfare Satyavathi Rathod has come forward to help a farmer after Rs 2 lakh cash saved by him for his abdominal surgery was eaten away by rats.

The minister on Sunday assured farmer Redya Naik that she will arrange his surgery in whichever hospital he preferred and also render him financial assistance.

She announced the help while reacting to the report about the tragic loss of the vegetable farmer. She deputed Mandal Revenue Officer to meet the farmer and console him.

The minister said the farmer need not be depressed over either the loss of money or his illness as all required help will be rendered to him.

The farmer of Vemunur village in Mahabubabad district lost his hard-earned money to rodents. He was shocked to see the currency notes kept in an almirah in his house shredded by rats.

Redya Naik had kept the money for his abdominal surgery. He required Rs 4 lakh for the surgery to remove the lump from his abdomen. With some savings and also hand loans taken from relatives and friends, he had kept the cash in the almirah.

As he wanted to deposit the money in the hospital on Tuesday, he opened the almirah but was shocked to find shredded currency notes which were in Rs 500 denomination.

“When I opened the almirah and took out the bag, I was shocked as the entire cash was shredded,” said Redya Naik, who grows vegetables and sell them on his two-wheeler.

He approached several banks in Mahabubabad with a request to exchange the destroyed currency notes with new ones but the officials made it clear this was not possible.

He was depressed over losing the money and had lost hopes of undergoing the surgery.

When the farmer’s plight came to her notice, the minister hailing from the same district came forward to help him. The farmer thanked the minister for her gesture.

TV debate turns violent in Huzurnagar, TRS activists attack participants!

1

A live public debate conducted by Raj News Channel in Huzurnagar on Sunday turned violent and led to clashes between TRS and other opposition parties.

Raj News Channel, known to be an anti-TRS channel, conducted a live public debate in Huzurnagar inviting people from all sections and parties to air their views on the development of the constituency.

The speakers were lashing out at TRS MLA Saidi Reddy, TRS government, CM KCR and minister KTR saying that they betrayed them by neglecting their constituency after making several promises during Huzurnagar bypoll in October 2019 and after winning the seat with huge majority.

The participants said none of the promises made by KCR or TRS government during bypolls were fulfilled even after nearly two years.

At this stage, TRS Huzurnagar MLA Saidi Reddy entered the scene along with his followers. They stormed onto the dais and threw away chairs and tables. They stopped the debate and live signal. When people and opposition parties opposed, they started attacking them.

People too retaliated and attacked TRS activists. Several people were injured in the clashes. As the situation was going out of control, the police rushed to the spot and dispersed the mob.

Huzurnagar bypoll was held in October 2019 after sitting Congress MLA N Uttam Kumar Reddy resigned after he was elected as Nalgonda MP in 2019 May Lok Sabha polls. The Congress fielded Uttam’s wife Padmavathi in the bypoll but she lost to TRS candidate Saidi Reddy.

Telangana to see competition of ‘padyatras’ by opposition leaders

1

It’s still more than two years for Assembly elections in Telangana but the leaders of opposition parties are gearing up to undertake ‘padyatras’ or walkathons to mobilise people’s support for taking on the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Bandi Sanjay will be the first opposition leader to embark on the foot march. Trying to project BJP as the viable alternative to TRS, he will be launching the ‘padyatra’ from Hyderabad on August 9.

The MP from Karimnagar plans to cover a distance of 750 kms before winding up the ‘padyatra’ on October 2 at Huzurabad Assembly constituency, which is due for bypolls.

The newly-appointed president of Congress’ Telangana unit A. Revanth Reddy too plans to undertake ‘padyatra’. The firebrand leader, who is looking to revive the fortunes of the party in its former stronghold, will be announcing the details of his foot march after getting a nod from the party’s central leadership.

Y.S. Sharmila, the latest entrant into Telangana politics, too plans to launch a ‘padyatra’ in 100 days. The daughter of late chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, is hoping to recreate the magic of her father, who had started the tradition of ‘padyatras’ in state politics.

The starting point of Bandi Sanjay’s ‘padyatra’ will be Bhagya Lakshmi temple abutting the historic Charminar. Political analysts say the choice of the temple is another attempt by BJP to highlight its saffron agenda while trying to expose the alleged failures of the TRS government.

The controversial temple abutting historic Charminar in the communally sensitive old city was the focal point of BJP’s aggressive campaign in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) polls late last year. It was from this temple that BJP had launched its poll campaign. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had also visited the temple while campaigning for the party in GHMC polls.

BJP’s campaign involving several central leaders paid rich dividends to the party as it put up an impressive performance to improve its tally in the 150-member GHMC to 48 from just four seats it won in the 2016 polls.

This helped BJP to deny TRS a clear majority and emerge as the second biggest party, a position earlier enjoyed by its arch rival All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).

The dates for ‘padyatra’ were also selected with a clear strategy. It begins on August 9, the Quit India Movement anniversary and ends on October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

“Our fight is to ensure a democratic Telangana,” said Sanjay who alleged that KCR is ruling Telangana like a dictator. He plans more walkathons in the run up to the 2023 polls.

Under Sanjay, a fiery speaker, BJP has already achieved a few successes. The saffron party dealt a blow to TRS by wresting Dubbak Assembly seat in the bye-election, followed by an impressive show in GHMC polls. The saffron party’s victory march was halted by TRS recently which wrested a seat of Legislative Council and retained Nagarjuna Sagar Assembly seat. Sanjay through his ‘padyatra’ will be trying to send the message that only BJP can provide an alternative to TRS.

Revanth Reddy, whose appointment as Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), infused new enthusiasm among Congress cadres is eager to take TRS head-on. He has decided to undertake ‘padyatra’ to start building on the perceived anti-incumbency.

A bitter critic of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao and his family, Revanth is likely to go all out to cash in on the support he enjoys among people, especially youth. However, in view of the groupism and internal differences in the party, he is treading cautiously by not announcing the ‘padyatra’ dates. “I can’t take the decision on my own. This has to be a collective decision,” he recently said.

Revanth Reddy is keen to carry everyone along in view of his earlier experience. He had undertaken 10-day ‘padyatra’ in February this year opposing the new farm laws by the Centre.

After addressing a rally of farmers in Nagarkurnool district on February 7, the Malkajgiri MP had launched ‘Rythu Bharosa Yatra’ on the spur of the moment. Encouraged by the public response, he continued to foot march. After covering a distance of 130 km, he addressed a public meeting at Tukkuguda near Hyderabad.

However, as Revanth Reddy had not taken permission from the party leadership, most of the leaders skipped the meet on the direction of then TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy.

Revanth Reddy is likely to use ‘padyatra’ to consolidate his position within the party as some sections of the party are still not happy with his appointment by ignoring several senior leaders. Analysts say he will also be using ‘padyatra’ to enhance his image as a leader who can take on KCR.

Reeling under defeat in two successive Assembly elections and series of defections, the Congress party desperately needs a programme like ‘padyatra’ to show that it is still a force to reckon with. By leading two huge protest programmes over fuel price hike over last one week, Revanth Reddy has already demonstrated that the party can bank on him to rebuild the organisation.

Telangana will also witness a ‘padyatra’ by Sharmila who launched YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) on July 8. She vowed to bring back ‘Rajanna Rajyam’ in Telangana.

‘Rajanna Rajyam’ is referred to the welfare rule of her late father. Popularly known as YSR, he implemented several pro-poor schemes in the united Andhra Pradesh.

YSR family is known for undertaking ‘padyatras’ and succeeding in capturing power. In fact it was YSR who started the tradition of ‘padyatras’ in 2003. By covering a distance of 1,470 kms across 11 districts in two months, he succeeded in highlighting people’s issues especially the problems faced by farmers.

The famous ‘padyatra’ catapulted Congress to power after a gap of 10 years, ending the rule of Telugu Desam Party’s N. Chandrababu Naidu. It also helped YSR establish himself as a mass leader.

Since then the politicians including YSR’s rivals have been following in his footsteps. In fact, after YSR’s death in a helicopter crash on September 2, 2009, his son Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had launched ‘Odarpu yatra’ to console families of those who died of shock due to YSR’s death. The Congress leadership had asked him to stop the walkathon as this was seen as a move to garner public sympathy to stake claim to the chief minister’s post.

Chandrababu Naidu also undertook ‘padyatra’ before 2014 election and led TDP to form the first government in Andhra Pradesh after bifurcation.

It was Jagan who made history with the longest ‘padyatra’ in 2018-19 to lead his YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) to a landslide victory in Andhra Pradesh.

Jagan covered a distance of 3,648 kms, walking through 134 of 175 Assembly constituencies.

His sister Sharmila is now gearing up to embark on ‘padyatra’ in Telangana. She plans to begin the walkathon from Chevella in Rangareddy district, from where YSR had started his 2003 ‘padyatra’. Later, he launched all major government and party programmes from the same place as it was considered auspicious by him.

Sharmila believes that YSR lives in the heart of Telangana people and is confident of winning their support to bring back ‘Rajanna Rajyam’.

However, this will not be her first political walkathon. When Jagan was in jail in disproportionate assets case in 2012-13, she had undertaken ‘padyatra’ to mobilise public support for him. She had covered 3,112 km across the then undivided Andhra Pradesh.

By undertaking the ‘padyatra’ in her new political avatar, she hopes to repeat what her father and brother have achieved.

Five special requests from Telangana Film Chamber

1

The members of the Telangana State Film Chamber of Commerce met Telangana Cinematography Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav with several requests post-pandemic. They submitted a memorandum to look into the requests which will help to revive the exhibition industry in Telangana. They wanted the government to allow nominal parking charges in theatres. The government of Telangana canceled the parking fees in all the theatres of the state. This turned out to be a dent in the revenue and the Film Chamber says that the parking charges have been the pillar of strength for cinema theatres for decades.

Despite theatres shutting down for months due to Covid, the Telangana Electricity Department charged Minimum Demand charges from theatres. The Telangana State Film Chamber of Commerce urged the government to wave off the minimum Demand charges which will help the exhibition sector. They also demanded a relaxation of the property tax for a period of two years as the theatres are shut for a long time. They also demanded a reduction in GST for the survival of cinema.

Why is everyone adopting the strategy of silence vis-à-vis YS Sharmila?

1

The biggest insult anyone can hurl against anyone is just ignoring one. Interestingly, all the three major political parties in Telangana are adopting the same strategy against his new-born party. They are not even bothering to comment on this party. No marks for guessing the party in question. It is YS Sharmila’s YSRTP.

Ruling TRS and its main challengers – the Congress and the BJP – are completely ignoring Sharmila in Telangana politics. They appear not to consider her as a contestant in fray. Though Sharmila is oozing confidence and is making tall claims about her party, no one in the political circles seems to have high hopes for her. But, she is trying hard to poke and provoke the rivals and make them comment about her party. However, all the three parties seem to have adopted an ambivalent attitude against her.

Revanth Reddy, the new Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief has said that he does not even consider her party a political entity. He said he does not care about her party. The TRS too has not commented on her or her party so far. They too have completely ignored her. In fact, the only reference that KCR has so far made to her was indirect. Referring to her dharna on unemployment, KCR said some people were doing dharnas like women do periodic vratams. He has not even mentioned her name.

As for the BJP, it does not seem to consider Sharmila’s party as a political entity. It has refrained from talking about it. The party perhaps feels that talking about her will give her unnecessary publicity and bring it onto the political centre stage. If no one talks about her party and herself, she would not get any traction, feels the BJP. The result? Despite the media attention she is getting, Sharmila is still a non-starter in Telangana politics.

Money earned from land sale to be use for public welfare: KCR

0

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday said the money earned through auction of government lands in the state will be spent for public welfare.

He said the government earned Rs 2,000 crore through auction of about 50 acres of land in Hyderabad on Thursday.

The state government has set a target of mobilising Rs 20,000 crore through sale of government lands during 2021-22.

Addressing a meeting at Telangana Bhavan to formally welcome former Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader L. Ramana into Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), KCR, as the Chief Minister is popularly known, said Telangana has a bright future.

Recalling his prediction that if granted statehood, Telangana will become the wealthiest state, he pointed out that the employees in Telangana were receiving highest salaries in the country.

He claimed that the state is number one in per capita power consumption. “Farmers in the state are happy. Ever since we brought Dharani portal, there are no land disputes,” he said.

The TRS chief said Telangana of his dream was becoming a reality. He said people in every village were benefiting from various schemes.

Stating that Telangana suffered injustice in irrigation sector due to “criminal negligence” in united Andhra Pradesh, KCR said that six months before the formation of Telangana, they discussed how to rebuild Telangana.

Schemes like Mission Kakatiya were prepared in the presence of Professor Jayashankar and R. Vidyasagar Rao. He claimed that this scheme is now being successfully implemented.

The Chief Minister also promised to provide political representation to weavers. Claiming that the government took several measures for the development of weavers, he said still a lot need to be done so that the community lives a life of dignity.

KCR said an insurance scheme on the lines of Rythu Bima will be implemented for weavers.

Pointing out that weavers from Warangal district are working in Gujarat’s Surat, he said officials were sent to Surat to study their problems. If textile industry is encouraged, they are ready to return to state, he said.

KCR said a mega textile park is being set up over 1,000 acres in Warangal, and industrialists are coming forward to invest in this. One company has expressed its willingness to invest Rs 3,000 crore.

He said that Ramana joined the TRS to contribute for the development of Telangana. He said he was happy that a disciplined person like Ramana has joined the TRS, and assured that Ramana and others who joined the TRS would be provided suitable posts.

The Chief Minister since weavers have no political representation, the TRS will use services of Ramana to provide benefits of various schemes to the community.

Ramana last week resigned from the TDP and joined the TRS. He was the President of the TDP’s Telangana unit.
