Tension in Telangana’s Huzurabad as BJP, TRS workers clash

1

Mild tension prevailed in Huzurabad town on Friday as activists of ruling TRS and BJP clashed after a TRS leader dared MLA Eatala Rajender for an open debate.

BJP activists tried to rush towards open debate dais arranged in the town for the open debate challenge made by Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Padi Koushik Reddy belonging to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).

The MLC had invited local MLA Rajender of the BJP for debate on the development of the Huzurabad constituency. He had challenged Rajender to reach Ambedkar Chowk in the town at 11 a.m. The TRS leader waited there for half-an-hour but the MLA did not turn up.

Addressing his supporters, Koushik Reddy slammed Rajender for failing to accept his challenge for the debate. He said no development works were taken up in the constituency after Rajender won the by-election. “By not turning up for debate, Rajender has accepted that the constituency witnessed development only under TRS rule,” he said.

When Koushik Reddy concluded his speech, some of the BJP workers rushed to Ambedkar Chowk and burnt the effigy of Koushik Reddy. This led to a clash between workers of both the parties.

They threw slippers and party flags at each other. Police intervened to defuse the situation by dispersing both the groups with the use of mild force. Some BJP workers were detained by the police.

For a second consecutive day, the town witnessed clashes between workers of both the parties. They had clashed on Thursday following a dispute over erection of flexi banners.

The challenges and counter challenges between the leaders of the TRS and the BJP in recent days have once again generated political heat in the constituency.

Rajender had resigned from the TRS and as MLA from Huzurabad last year after he was dropped from the state Cabinet by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao following allegations that he encroached on land belonging to some farmers.

Rajender later joined the BJP and won the by-elections held in November last year. He had defeated his nearest rival Gellu Srinivas Yadav of the TRS by a margin of over 23,000 votes.

TRS MP’s son robbed in Hyderabad

0

The son of a TRS MP was robbed by two men, who threatened him with a knife and forced him to make an online transfer Rs 75,000, police said on Tuesday.

N. Prithvi Teja, son of Khammam MP N. Nageswara Rao, jumped out of the car to save himself after one of the unidentified men had taken control of the wheel.

The incident occurred in Hyderabad on July 30 but came to light on Tuesday (August 2).

Prithvi, who is a businessman, told police that two men on a motorcycle forced him to stop the car at Toli Chowki at around 4.30 a.m. The two men got into the car and one of them put the knife on Prithvi’s neck and forced him to drive towards Kondapur.

The complainant alleged that the robbers consumed liquor in the vehicle and physically assaulted him. They then forced him to transfer Rs 75,000 via PhonePe.

According to the complaint, one of the assailants later drove the car towards SR Nagar. He also hit a few two-wheelers parked by the roadside. When the car was being driven through Punjagutta, Prithvi jumped out. After covering some distance, the two assailants left the car and escaped.

On Prithvi’s complaint, police registered a case of dacoity and took up investigation.

Embarrassment to TRS as party leader targets Education Minister

1

In an embarrassment to the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), a senior party leader on Tuesday made serious allegations against Education Minister P. Sabitha Indra Reddy.

Greater Hyderabad’s former Mayor, Teegala Krishna Reddy alleged that the minister is encouraging encroachments in Maheshwaram, the Assembly constituency on the outskirts of Hyderabad which she represents.

Krishna Reddy, also a former MLA from Maheshwaram, slammed the minister for “destroying” the Meerpet Mantrala lake. Stating that he would not keep quiet over the destruction, he said, that if necessary, he would launch an indefinite fast.

He said the minister was promoting encroachments and remarked that even lakes and schools are not being spared.

The former Mayor said he would soon meet Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to brief him on the happenings in the constituency.

Krishna Reddy also noted that Sabitha Indra Reddy was not elected an MLA on the TRS ticket, and also accused her of neglecting development of the constituency.

The allegations by Krishna Reddy brought in open the fight between two groups within the TRS in the constituency.

Krishna Reddy’s allegations came amid reports that he was planning to join the opposition Congress. He, however, denied the reports and said he would remain with the TRS.

He has been unhappy ever since Sabitha Indra Reddy switched loyalties to the TRS along with some other Congress leaders in 2019. Chief Minister KCR rewarded her with a Cabinet berth.

Krishna Reddy had served as Mayor of Greater Hyderabad from 2002 to 2007. He was elected from Maheshwaram constituency on a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) ticket in 2014. However, a few months after the polls, he crossed over to the TRS along with three other TDP MLAs.

In 2018, Krishna Reddy contested from Maheshwaram on a TRS ticket but lost to Sabitha Indra Reddy, the then Congress candidate.

Krishna Reddy’s open attack on Sabitha Indra Reddy has embarrassed the TRS leadership. The supporters of the minister have demanded action against him for making the allegations.

The development came close on the heels of a Mayor of Badangpet Corporation and two corporators resigning from TRS and joining the Congress.

Mayor Parijatha Narsimha Reddy along with corporators Santosha Srinivas and Peddabavi Sudershan Reddy joined the Congress in New Delhi on Monday in the presence of party leader Rahul Gandhi.

Narasimha Reddy was elected mayor of the newly-created urban body on the outskirts of Hyderabad after defecting to the TRS from Congress along with few other corporators.

Alleging that she was being sidelined in the TRS, she sent her resignation to the party’s Ranga Reddy district and MLA Manchireddy Kishan Reddy.

She stated that despite her sincere efforts to work for the TRS, the party leaders in Maheshwaram Assembly constituency and Badangpet Corporation were sidelining her.

Jolt to TRS as a Mayor joins Congress

0

Telangana’s ruling TRS received a jolt on Monday when the Mayor of Badangpet Municipal Corporation and two corporators joined the opposition Congress.

Mayor Parijatha Narsimha Reddy, along with corporators Santosha Srinivas and Peddabavi Sudershan Reddy joined the Congress, in the presence of party leader Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi.

State Congress President A. Revanth Reddy and other party leaders were present.

Parijatha was elected Mayor of the newly-created urban body on the outskirts of Hyderabad after defecting to the TRS from the Congress along with few other corporators.

Alleging that she was being sidelined in the TRS, she sent her resignation to party’s Ranga Reddy district chief and MLA Manchireddy Kishan Reddy.

She stated that depsite her sincere efforts to work for the TRS, the party leaders in Maheshwaram Assembly constituency and Badangpet Corporation were sidelining her.

After meeting Rahul Gandhi along with the Mayor, two corporators and other leaders, Revanth Reddy said the Congress would continue its fight against wrong policies of both the BJP government at the Centre and the TRS government in the state.

He said Gandhi suggested them to stand by the people in the fight against both the Central and Telangana governments.

Revanth Reddy said that as a party which carved out Telangana state, the Congress also has the responsibility to save the state.

He said while Narendra Modi government has burdened the common man with steep and indiscriminate hike in prices of petroleum products, the TRS government headed by KCR has pushed Telangana into a debt trap, alleging that not only has the development of Telangana come to a standstill but the state is on the verge of going bankrupt.

Unable to unite Oppn behind him, KCR charts his own course

A front of non-BJP and non-Congress parties mooted long ago by Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao remained a non-starter as regional parties have failed to find a common ground.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader last year revived the idea of an alternative and vowed to play a key role in national politics by evolving a new agenda to bring what he calls a qualitative change.

Despite his often repeated plans to call meetings of all like-minded parties to discuss and work out an alternative agenda, Chandrasekhar Rao failed to make any progress.

KCR, as the TRS chief is popularly known, visited a few states in the last couple of months and held talks with leaders like Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray, Arvind Kejriwal, Akhilesh Yadav and Hemant Soren but could not bring other key regional leaders like Mamata Banerjee and Naveen Patnaik on board.

Ever since he first proposed the idea of a national alternative in 2018, KCR repeatedly announced plans to hold meetings with economic experts, intellectuals, retired bureaucrats and other such people to prepare an alternate agenda but nothing happened on the ground.

Going by his recent move to float a national party, it appears that KCR has given up the idea of a front of anti-BJP and anti-Congress parties. During a meeting with party leaders last month, he decided to launch a national party.

TRS sources said the national party would be called Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). A final decision in this regard was expected to be taken on June 19 at the extended meeting of the TRS executive but this was postponed apparently due to the Presidential elections.

KCR is likely to make a final announcement later this month. The TRS leadership is reportedly keen to have the TRS symbol of car’ for the BRS as well. The TRS office coming up in the national capital will serve as the headquarters of the proposed national party, party sources said.

After his meetings with Delhi Chief Minister Arvid Kejriwal, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (S) leader Deve Gowda in May, KCR had said that there would be a sensation soon in the country.

Political analysts, however, believe that this move by KCR may only be symbolic to get some recognition at the national level. The proposed party is not likely to contest elections in other states.

If KCR launches a national party, he will be the first leader from South India to take this step. Telugu Desam Party (TDP) founder and former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. T. Rama Rao too had national ambitions. NTR, as the actor-politician was popularly known, wanted to launch Bharat Desam Party but it never saw the light of day.

NTR’s successor N. Chandrababu Naidu registered the TDP as a national party but it could not expand beyond Telugu states.

P. Raghavendra Reddy, a political analyst, believes that at a time when many regional satraps have national ambitions, KCR launching a national party might not yield great results. “It’s not just Mamata or Kejriwal who want to expand their national footprint, there are old war horses like Sharad Pawar, Nitish Kumar, Mayawati etc., who want to occupy the top post if they emerge as the consensus candidate. So KCR entering this race seems outlandish,” he said.

KCR, who is said to be acting on the advice of political strategist Prashant Kishor, appears keen to have some visibility at the national level with a national party as his efforts to cobble together an alliance and serve as its head have not borne fruit.

The national party move also assumed significance in the wake of KCR’s attempt to project a successful Telangana model.

Highlighting the all-round progress made by the state within eight years of its formation, the TRS leader asks When Telangana can achieve it, why not the entire country with its abundant natural and human resources’.

Raghavendra Reddy is of the view that KCR might be using this narrative to position himself as a counter weight to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and tell the voters of Telangana that Modi is not running the country in the right frame, and the KCR model of governance is the best for the country.

When KCR first mooted the idea of a national alternative, he was targeting both the BJP and the Congress, blaming them for the problems faced by the country. This stand was not in sync with other regional parties who see the BJP as the number one enemy and were not averse to joining hands with the Congress.

Last year, the TRS chief appeared more critical of the BJP than the Congress. He had even dropped hints of softening his stand towards the Congress by saying the priority of all parties should be to throw out the Narendra Modi government.

However, the developments of the last few months appeared to have once again forced KCR to revert to his previous stand of equi-distance’ from both the BJP and the Congress. It was for this reason that the TRS stayed away from the meeting of opposition parties called by Mamata Banerjee last month to discuss the strategy for the Presidential elections. KCR made it clear that the TRS will not be part of a meeting where the Congress was invited.

Since the TRS considers the Congress as its main opponent in Telangana, KCR would not like to be seen rubbing shoulders with the leaders of that party at the national level.

However, in the interest of opposition unity, KCR declared support for Yashwant Sinha, the joint candidate of the opposition parties in the Presidential elections. KCR’s son and TRS working president K. T. Rama Rao along with party MPs was present when Sinha filed his nomination.

Analyst Raghavendra Reddy believes that KCR and some of his fellow aspirants for the PM’s post might realise that the Congress cannot be wished away from a contest, and the grand old party is the only counter weight to the saffron party across many states. “KCR is in a situation where he can neither align with the Congress nor bring others together without the Congress being in the equation,” he said.

Though KCR held a series of meetings with leaders of various political parties including the Shiv Sena, DMK, RJD, SP and JD (S) during the last few months, no consensus could be reached on forging a front as an alternative to both the BJP and the Congress. The much-awaited meeting between KCR and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee did not take place and despite the attempts made in the past KCR could not have Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on board as both the BJD and the YSRCP continue to extend support to the Narendra Modi government on key Bills.

Another indication that KCR has given up his plans to forge a front came during the TRS plenary in April.

At the day-long plenary of the TRS held to mark the 21st foundation day of the party, he hinted at floating a national party.

As he did not speak at the plenary about his meetings with leaders of various political parties and the chief ministers of some states, this gave credence to the buzz that the TRS chief was toying with the idea of forming a national party.

KCR told the plenary that some legislators suggested that TRS should be changed into BRS. The leaders who spoke at the plenary appealed to KCR to play an active role in national politics saying the country needs a visionary leader like him.

In one of the resolutions passed at the plenary, the TRS said that it will play a key role in national politics in the coming days. The party observed it needs to play a constructive role and fill the political void at the national level.

Responding to the requests made by the party leaders, KCR said he was ready to play an active role to the best of his ability.

TRS, BJP engage in war of hoardings ahead of PM’s visit to Hyderabad

0

A war of hoardings broke out between Telangana’s ruling party Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the saffron party’s national executive and public meeting to be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

A hoarding criticising Prime Minister Modi cropped up on Wednesday near Parade Grounds in Secunderabad, where he is scheduled to address a public meeting on July 3.

However, the Secunderabad Cantonment Board authorities quickly removed the banner.

The hoarding in Telugu with hashtag ByeBye Modi, tagline ‘Salu Modi-Sampaku Modi’ (Enough Modi- Don’t kill us Modi) and with a picture of Modi attracted the attention of passersby.

The hoarding highlighted six points, slamming Modi for ‘killing’ farmers with controversial farm laws, failing to provide jobs to youth, sudden lockdown, going back on the promise to give Rs 15 lakh to every citizen by bringing back black money and privatisation of LIC and other public sector undertakings.

Though who put up the hoarding was not mentioned on it but it was apparent going by the hashtag ByeBye Modi and the tagline being used on social media by the TRS supporters for the last few days.

Last week, the BJP had put up a hoarding at its office with the tagline ‘KCR countdown has started’. The hoarding with a countdown clock carried the slogan ‘Salu dora-selavu dora’ (Enough sir, goodbye sir).

BJP national general secretary in-charge of party affairs in Telangana, Tarun Chug had formally inaugurated the countdown clock on June 25 and declared that 529 days are remaining for the TRS government and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR).

The BJP announced that it will install similar countdown clocks at all its offices in the state. The party has also launched a website with the slogan ‘Salu dora- selavu dora’ which has a ticking countdown clock. It also highlighted the failures of the TRS government.

TRS leaders had threatened to put up display boards of Modi with a garland of footwear around his neck across the state if the BJP did not remove the derogatory hoarding from its office.

TRS supporters have been putting up banners and hoardings during the visits by the Prime Minister to Hyderabad.

During Modi’s visit to Hyderabad on May 26, banners with 17 questions were put up at different places in the city.

Most of the questions pertained to the commitments made by the Centre in 2014 during the formation of Telangana state which remained unfulfilled even after eight years.

The state’s ruling party had asked Modi similar questions during his earlier visit to Hyderabad on February 5.

As the PM was in the city to unveil the statue of equality, the party had asked ‘Where is equality for Telangana’.

A huge hoarding held by a group of youth on Tank Bund in the heart of the city had attracted the attention of all. It had several questions, reminding the Prime Minister of unfulfilled promises.

A two-day national executive of the BJP is scheduled to begin in Hyderabad on July 2. At the end of the executive, Modi and other BJP leaders will address the public meeting at Parade Grounds.

KTR questions Centre’s move to sell PSU lands in states

1

Telangana’s Industries and Information Technology Minister K.T. Rama Rao has questioned the Centre’s move to sell the lands allotted by the state government, along with the Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).

In a letter to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, he appealed to the Central government to reconsider the plans, failing which the Telangana government will “strongly obstruct the moves”.

KTR, as Rama Rao is popularly known, stated that the BJP-led Central government was planning to sell assets, including land allotted to different PSUs, in Telangana.

Instead of selling the assets, the Union government should explore the possibilities of reviving and strengthening the PSUs. “If it is not feasible then the state government should be given an opportunity to set up new industrial units on such lands,” he said.

KTR said that the Central government’s plans to sell PSUs are nothing but making a mockery of the state government’s rights.

he pointed out that many states, including Tamil Nadu were strongly opposing the Central government moves to sell PSUs set up in their respective territories.

Lashing out at the Central government for its attempts to sell PSUs in the guise of disinvestment, he sought to know under what provisions or rights, the Modi government was contemplating the sale of PSUs set up in different states.

It was unfortunate that the Modi government did not provide job opportunities to the unemployed youth. If the PSUs were reopened, they would provide direct employment to thousands and indirectly millions would be benefited, KTR said.

Instead the Central government was focusing on withdrawing investment to facilitate sale of the companies. The BJP government was selling Hindustan Cables Ltd, Hindustan Fluorocarbons Ltd, Indian Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Ltd, HMT, Cement Corporation of India Ltd (CCI) and Ordinance factories in Telangana as part of its disinvestment plans, he charged.

The state government had allotted about 7,200 acres of land to these six companies. The value of these lands would be nearly Rs 5,000 crore according to government rates and as per open market prices, the value could be over Rs 40,000 crore, he said.

The state government had allotted lands to these companies at marginal prices and in a few cases, they were offered for free, since setting up of these units would generate employment to local people, besides facilitating industrial development.

He recalled that when the Telangana government urged the union government to allot lands for the construction of Skyways to improve transportation in Hyderabad, the Centre demanded compensation as per market price.

“In this context, how can the Central government sell the lands that were allotted by the state government for setting up PSUs,” KTR questioned.

TRS to stay away from opposition meeting on Presidential polls

1

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has decided not to attend the meeting called by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday to discuss the opposition’s strategy for the Presidential election in New Delhi.

Telangana Chief Minister and TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao took the decision after consultations with senior party leaders.

The TRS is unhappy with Mamata Banerjee inviting Congress party for the meeting. The TRS cited its stand to maintain equidistance from both the BJP and the Congress. The TRS leadership made it clear that it can’t be a part of any exercise which has the participation of the Congress.

Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee has invited all the opposition parties for the meeting to be held at Constitution Club at 3 p.m. She also extended the invitation to eight chief ministers of opposition-ruled states for the meeting.

It initially thought that TRS chief KCR may stay away from the meeting but he may send some other TRS leader. However, after hours of consultation with party leaders he decided not to send any TRS leader.

The TRS sources claimed that KCR already conveyed to Matama Banerjee his objections to the invitation extended to the Congress party.

KCR-led party made it clear that since Congress is its main rival in the state, it can’t share a platform with it. The party leader was also unhappy over the way Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during his visit to the state last month made baseless allegations against TRS government without speaking anything against the BJP.

There is also a feeling among the TRS leadership that the Congress party can’t be trusted. They believe that Congress party colluded with the BJP in all elections from 2019 Lok Sabha polls to Assembly by-election in Huzurabad late last year. It alleged that the Congress worked for the victory of BJP by sacrificing its own chances.

The TRS leaders also questioned the purpose of calling a meeting when a candidate was already selected. They are of the view that the opposition parties should have first discussed a leader acceptable to all parties in advance and then convince such a leader later.

They were referring to Mamata Banerjee’s request to Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar to be the opposition candidate. The NCP chief has declined the offer saying he wants to remain in active politics.

T’gana BJP leader arrested for derogatory skit against KCR

0

Telangana Police on Friday arrested state BJP leader Jitta Balakrishna Reddy for insulting Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao by organising a skit.

Police arrested him from Ghatkesar toll plaza near Hyderabad in the early hours of the day. A court in Rangareddy district later granted him bail.

Police said the BJP leader was arrested for indulging in hate speech and inciting hatred and causing provocation for violence through an event organised by the cultural team of the BJP on Telangana Formation Day (June 2).

On a complaint by Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) social media convenor Y. Satish Reddy, police booked Balakrishna Reddy, state BJP chief Bandi Sanjay and others under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 114 (abettor present when offence is committed), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 505(2) (statements causing public mischief, promoting enmity) read with 109.

A case was registered against them at the Hayathnagar Police Station under Rachakonda Police Commissionerate.

The complainant had alleged that the organisers misused the platform to defame the government schemes with false accusation on the CM and the government with an intention to mislead the people and provoke hatred and unrest.

According to police, under the leadership state BJP president Bandi Sanjay and organisers Jitta Balakrishna Reddy and Rani Rudrama organised an event in view of Telangana Formation Day and ‘misused the dais for performing a skit (hate act)’ with the help of BJP cultural team member Boddu Yellanna alias Daruvu Yellanna by insulting a person who is holding a constitutional post being democratically elected by the people of the state. The skit was telecast on a Telugu TV news channel.

A case was registered against Bandi Sanjay, Balakrishna Reddy, Rani Rudramma, Boddu Yellanna and his team.

On examining the video, police found that the organisers made ‘derogatory comments, personal attacks depicting the chief minister as boozer, cheater, etc., to lower the image of a person elected by democratic means and holding a constitutional post’.

The police also recovered the ‘chief minister’s face mask’, a liquor bottle and flexi of Telangana Formation Day.

Meanwhile, Bandi Sanjay condemned the midnight arrest of Balakrishna Reddy. He alleged that the TRS government was trying to create an atmosphere of fear by resorting to ‘undemocratic means’.

BJP should first apologise to Indians: KTR

0

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao on Monday said that the BJP should first apologise to Indians at home for spewing hatred day in and day out.

Reacting to reports that some Arab countries have demanded an apology from India for the blasphemous remarks made by spokespersons of the ruling party, Rama Rao said that it is the BJP that should apologise and not India.

In a tweet, Rama Rao asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi why should India as a country apologise to the international community for the hate speeches of BJP bigots. “It is BJP that should apologise; not India as a Nation Your party should first apologise to Indians at home for spewing & spreading hatred day in day out,” wrote KTR, as the TRS leader and state minister is popularly known.

KTR also tweeted that the PM’s silence was deafening and shocking when BJP MP Pragya Singh hailed the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi. “Modi Ji, Your silence was deafening & shocking when BJP MP Pragya Singh hailed assassination of Mahatma Gandhi Let me remind you sir; What you permit is what you promote,” the TRS leader wrote.

“The tacit support from top is what emboldened the bigotry & hatred that will cause irreparable loss to India,” he added.

KTR tweeted on the issue for a second consecutive day. On Sunday, he had demanded the BJP to suspend its Telangana unit chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar.

After BJP suspended its spokesperson Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal over their blasphemous comments on Sunday, the TRS leader demanded Sanjay Kumar’s suspension.

“If the BJP truly respects all religions equally, should you also not suspend the Telangana BJP chief who made an open public statement wanting to dig up all the mosques & impose a ban on Urdu?,” he wrote

“Why this selective treatment Nadd Ji? Any clarification?,” KTR asked BJP president J. P. Nadda.

Bandi Sanjay, who is also an MP, made controversial statements in recent days. He alleged that Muslim rulers in Telangana demolished several temples and built mosques over them. He demanded digging work at all mosques, saying there was a possibility of finding Shiva Lingams underneath.

Suspend BJP Telangana chief too, demands KTR

Soon after the BJP on Sunday suspended its spokesperson Nupur Sharma and leader Naveen Kumar Jindal over their derogatory religious comments, TRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao demanded it suspend its Telangana chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar.

“If the BJP truly respects all religions equally, should you also not suspend the Telangana BJP chief who made an open public statement wanting to dig up all the mosques & impose a ban on Urdu?” tweeted Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader.

“Why this selective treatment Nadd Ji? Any clarification?,” KTR asked BJP President J.P. Nadda.

Bandi Sanjay, who is also a Member of Parliament, has made controversial statements in recent days. Alleging that Muslim rulers in Telangana demolished several temples and built mosques over them, he demanded digging at all mosques, saying there was a possibility of finding Shiva Lingams underneath.

The BJP MP also stated that if the BJP comes to power in Telangana, it will abolish all madrasas, do away with reservation for Muslims and remove Urdu as the second official language.

Meanwhile, another TRS leader Krishank Manne said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP have put India to shame.

“If only the BJP could hear its own Indians, India wouldn’t have to be threatened by Arab. Narendra Modi ji, you should have done this before Arab said boycott India. You and your BJP have put India to Shame Mr. Prime Minister. Late (Prime Minister Atal Bihari) Vajpayee ji would be feeling ashamed of you,” tweeted Krishank, who is social media convenor of TRS.

The TRS leader also said that in Indian history, no country ever asked India to apologise. He wrote that because of Narendra Modi and BJP, Qatar is asking the government of India to apologise for the statements. “History will remember this day on how BJP has put India to shame,” he said.

TRS names industrialists as its Rajya Sabha candidates

1

Hetero Drugs Chairman and Managing Director Bandi Parthasaradhi Reddy, Gayatri Group of Companies’ chief promoter Vaddiraju Ravi Chandra, and Telangana Publications Private Ltd Chairman and Managing Director Divakonda Damodar Rao are the three candidates announced by the TRS on Wednesday for the Rajya Sabha elections.

Chief Minister and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) President K. Chandrasekhar Rao cleared the names after consultations with the party leaders.

Contrary to speculations doing the rounds in political circles for several weeks, KCR has not nominated actor Prakash Raj, who is believed to be playing a key role in his plans for national politics.

Parthasaradhi Reddy is the founder and head of Hetero Drugs, a Hyderabad-based generic pharmaceutical company.

He is a billionaire and one of the richest Indians in Hurun India Rich List 2021. Parthasaradhi Reddy and family of Hetero Labs ranked 58 in the list of wealthiest Indians in 2021, against 81 in 2020 list. According to Hurun list, they have a wealth of Rs 26,100 crore, a growth of 88 per cent in a year.

Ravi Chandra is the founder and chief promoter of Gayatri Group, which is into granite and mining. The 61-year-old belongs to backward classes.

Damodar Rao is Chairman and Managing Director, Telangana Publications Private Ltd. The company runs Telugu daily ‘Namasthe Telangana’, English newspaper ‘Telangana Today’ and Telugu news channel ‘T-News’, considered as mouthpieces of the ruling party.

One of the three candidates named by the TRS will file nomination on Thursday for the by-election to be held on May 30. The vacancy arose due to the resignation of Banda Prakash after he was elected to Telangana Legislative Council. May 19 is the last date for filing of nomination.

The Election Commission last week announced the schedule for two seats of the Upper House of Parliament as sitting members V. Lakshmikanta Rao and D. Srinivas will be retiring on June 21.

The election notification for the two seats will be issued on May 24. The last date for filing of nominations is May 31. Election, if necessary, will be held on June 10.

With more than 100 MLAs in 119-member Assembly, the TRS has the required strength to win all the three seats.

TRS may send Prakash Raj to Rajya Sabha

1

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is likely to nominate actor- politician Prakash Raj to the Rajya Sabha.

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is believed to be considering the name of Prakash Raj, who recently emerged as a key figure in the TRS President’s efforts to cobble together a national alliance.

Prakash Raj is reported to have met Chandrasekhar Rao twice at his farmhouse at Erravalli a couple of days ago. The meeting assumed significance in the wake of the series of consultations the TRS chief is having with the party leaders to select three candidates for the upcoming elections to Rajya Sabha.

The polling for one Rajya Saba seat will be held on May 30. The vacancy arose due to the resignation of Banda Prakash after he was elected to the Telangana Legislative Council. May 19 is the last date for filing of nomination.

The Election Commission on Thursday announced the schedule for two seats of the Upper House of Parliament as sitting members V.

KCR has already announced his intention to play a key role in national politics. He is likely to nominate a couple of leaders who can help the party in playing the role.

Prakash Raj, a popular actor in south Indian films, is being seen as a key member of KCR’s team to forge a front of like-minded regional and national parties.

The actor was present during KCR’s meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Nationalist Congress Party leader Sharad Pawar in Mumbai in February.

Prakash Raj also accompanied election strategist Prashant Kishore during the latter’s visit to Mallanna Sagar reservoir in Siddipet district of Telangana in the last week of February.

A bitter critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the actor enjoys good rapport with leaders of various parties in his home state Karnataka and also in Tamil Nadu.

This was not the first time that Prakash Raj was seen taking an active part in the political deliberations around the front.

He was also seen with KCR in 2018 when the latter held a series of meetings with leaders of various political parties to prepare ground to launch an alternate front.

Prakash Raj, who claims to be a strong believer in secularism and unity in diversity, had used various forums to launch a bitter attack on policies pursued by the Narendra Modi government since 2014. He had also taken active part in protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

He had unsuccessfully contested as an independent from Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha in 2019 elections. Last year, he suffered defeat in the election for the President of Movie Artists Association (MAA), the apex body of Telugu film industry.

Who wants to have alliance with Congress, asks KTR

0

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) working president K. T. Rama Rao on Saturday ridiculed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s comment that Congress will have no alliance with TRS in the next year’s Assembly elections.

“Is there any political party in India which wants to have an alliance with the Congress,” asked the TRS leader.

He was talking to reporters in Warangal, where Rahul Gandhi addressed a public meeting on Friday.

Dubbing Congress a tried, tested and dusted party, the TRS leader wondered who would want to have an alliance with it.

“Will Rahul, who could not win his own constituency, make his party win elections in Telangana,” asked KTR, who is son of Telangana Chief Minister and TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

The TRS leader also remarked that Rahul Gandhi has handed over Gandhi Bhavan (state headquarters of Congress party) to Godse. Taking another dig at the Congress MP, the TRS leader said he read the script given by somebody.

KTR also ridiculed the Congress leader over the latter’s claim about farmers’ suicides in Telangana. He pointed out that the central government itself has declared that Telangana has the least number of farmer suicides. “If Congress is such a great party with concern for farmers, why did it lose the elections in Punjab,” he asked.

On the Warangal declaration announced by the Congress party, KTR said Congress has just repeated what it had said in the 2018 elections. aceHas Rahul Gandhi spoken in Parliament about paddy,” he asked.

“When Congress was in power, it had no rythu bandhu and rythu bheema schemes. It did not supply uninterrupted power to farmers. None of the welfare schemes being implemented by the Telangana government today was there during Congress rule.”

KTR alleged that Congress turned agriculture into a crisis while Chief Minister KCR transformed agriculture into a great power. He recalled that when Congress was in power there was not a single village without people migrating from there to cities and other states.

He dismissed the allegation by Congress party that TRS government did not waive off crop loans. He said that farmers know the truth. He urged farmers not to believe what Congress promised in the Warangal declaration.

Describing AlCC as the All India Crisis Committee, KTR said the time has come for the people to dump Congress party once for all.

KCR’s daughter reminds BJP’s Nizamabad MP of Turmeric Board promise

0

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader K. Kavitha on Wednesday slammed BJP MP from Nizamabad, Arvind Dharmapuri for failing to bring the Turmeric Board to the district even three years after he made the promise to the famers.

Kavitha, who is a member of Telangana Legislative Council and a former MP from Nizamabad, alleged that he has failed to persuade the Centre to establish the Turmeric Board in Nizamabad.

Addressing a news conference in Nizamabad, Kavitha cited the replies received under Right to Information Act (RTI) to question Dharmapuri of the reason for depriving the farmers and people of Nizamabad of their basic dues.

Kavitha, who is daughter of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, said the MP made tall claims of Rs 100 crore allocation, while every farmer made only Rs 200.

She said Dharmapuri and the BJP made tall promises to the people of Nizamabad in order to just win an election.

“Mr Arvind, in the last three years, could only get our farmers an allocation of Rs 1.92 crore for close to 1 lakh turmeric producing farmers. If you divide it between all of them, it boils down to less than Rs 200. All he did was deceive farmers by distributing a bond paper,” she said.

Kavitha stated that she didn’t speak on the subject for the last three years because she wanted to respect the mandate delivered by the people of Nizamabad and give the current MP the time to do something regarding his promises to the farmers of the district. She also cited an RTI reply on the budget allocated with respect to turmeric-producing farmers.

Dharmapuri had promised the farming community in the Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency in the run-up to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections that if elected as MP, he would get the Turmeric Board sanctioned to the district and that he would get proper minimum support prices fixed for both turmeric and red jowar.

“If he failed to keep both commitments, he had said that he would resign as a member of Parliament and join the farmers’ and people’s movement,” Kavitha said.

In March 2019, Dharmapuri made a vow for the Turmeric Board in writing and even signed it on a non-judicial (bond) stamp paper. In the Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency, his team printed copies of the promise and distributed them in turmeric-growing areas.

A regional centre of the Spices Board was set up by the Union government on February 14, 2020, but this did not satisfy the farming community, who had stated that nothing less than a full-fledged board is acceptable to them and the rallying cry for it continued.

Kavitha said that the office of the regional spice board office has nothing but a “few Nilkamal (brand of plastic) chairs” and two people managing it. According to the RTI reply, the office conducted eight meetings in the period of 2020-21 via video conference.

“Time has come now for Mr. Arvind to deliver on his bond paper promise. He should go around on his knees in Delhi around the offices of his masters if he really has the interest to serve the people of Telangana,” Kavitha remarked.

Kavitha also hit Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. “During paddy crop issue, we urged him (Rahul Gandhi) to raise the issue in Parliament and to support farmers of Telangana but he didn’t. But now he is planning something in Warangal, coming here to do politics only. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi never talked in the favour of Telangana. Don’t know why he is coming to Warangal and Osmania University now,” she said.

Referring to visits of Parliament Rahul Gandhi and BJP President J.P. Nadda to Telangana, she dubbed them “political tourists”.

The former MP said that in the run up to elections “more and more political tourists” will visit Telangana because of elections but the TRS is here to stay to work for the future generations. She further added that other political parties try to divide people of Telangana in the name of religion, occupation and other ways, her party works to bridge that gap.

Lack of vision by PM Modi root cause of all problems: KTR

1

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao has once again trained his guns at the Narendra Modi government, this time over the coal shortage.

Listing out shortage of various essentials during BJP rule, he said the root cause of all problems is Prime Minister Narendra Modi lacking vision.

KTR, as Rama Rao is popularly known, slammed the Modi government through a tweet in Telugu on Monday.

KTR, who is also a minister holding multiple portfolios in the Cabinet headed by father and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, referred to the current shortage of coal in various parts of the country.

“Coal shortage in BJP rule, oxygen shortage during Corona times, electricity shortage for industries, job shortage for youth, employment shortage in villages and when it comes to state there is fund shortage,” tweeted KTR.

“The root cause of all problems ‘PM Modi lacks vision’,” he added. He took a dig at the Centre with the remark “NPA Govt’s amazing performance”.

KTR has been describing the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) as NPA (Non-Performing Alliance).

Telangana MLC booked for abusing, threatening cop

1

Police in Telangana’s Vikarabad district registered a case against a Member of Legislative Council (MLC) belonging to ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) for allegedly abusing and threatening a police officer.

On a complaint by Circle Inspector Rajender Reddy, a case has been registered against MLC and former minister P. Mahender Reddy at Tandur police station.

Rajender Reddy alleged that the legislator tried to prevent him from discharging his official duties and threatened and abused him.

Vikarabad Superintendent of Police N. Koti Reddy said a case has been registered against Mahender Reddy.

The TRS leader has been booked under Indian Penal Code sections 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (Criminal intimidation).

The case was registered after an audio clip of a telephonic conversation went viral. The caller, purported to be that of Mahender Reddy, is heard abusing Rajender Reddy of Tandur town.

The MLC heard questioning the police officer about rowdy sheeters attending a programme at a temple recently. He was not convinced by the officer’s clarification that the people in question were accompanying local MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy. The legislator even challenged the cop to record the call, stating that the recording would not affect him in any way.

The caller threatened the Circle Inspector of dire consequences even if he is transferred to another place. He even accused the cop of being involved in illegal sand transportation and threatened to catch him red-handed.

Meanwhile, Mahender Reddy denied abusing and threatening the police officer. He told
mediapersons on Thursday that the voice in the audio clip is not his. He alleged that some people are trying to tarnish his image.

On the case registered by the police, the MLC said he would approach the court.

Mahender Reddy is said to be involved in similar incidents after losing election in Tandur Assembly constituency in 2018.

The former minister was defeated by Rohith Reddy, who contested the election as the Congress party candidate but later joined TRS. After that differences had cropped up between the two leaders.

India needs torch bearer like KCR as its leader: TRS

0

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leaders on Wednesday said India needs a torch bearer and visionary like K. Chandrasekhar Rao as its leader.

Speakers at TRS plenary urged Chief Minister KCR to play an active role in national politics to bring a change and guide the country on the path of development and prosperity.

Speaking on 13 resolutions passed at the plenary, state ministers and TRS leaders said KCR should lead the efforts to bring a qualitative change.

TRS working president K.T. Rama Rao said the country needs a visionary leader, and not a leader who is seen only on television.

KTR, who is son of KCR, moved a resolution which says that TRS will play a key role in national politics in the coming days.

The party observed TRS needs to play a constructive role and fill the political void at national level.

The party asserted to bring a qualitative change in the country on the lines the Telangana state achieved desirable results in education, irrigation, health and economic sectors.

The country should be freed from the evil forces and end the bulldozer rule and divide and rule policies adopted by the rulers in the country, says the resolution.

Through another resolution, the party resolved to fight against religious intolerance and protect the national integrity and the country’s unique culture.

The plenary observed growing religious intolerance will weaken the country on all fronts. Many countries were struggling after the fanatic groups took over the administrative power.

The TRS called on people to fight unitedly against the barbaric acts by some political forces and spread the message of love and peace .

Speaking on the resolution, TRS leader B. Vinod Kumar said the communal policies of BJP government pose a threat to the country’s future.

He denounced union home minister Amit Shah’s statement calling for common civil code. He pointed out that while the entire country has same criminals laws for all sections of people, only the family laws are different. He said within the Hindu community there are different customs and practices in different states.

The TRS resolved to fight against the union government for undermining the federal spirit and suppressing constitutional rights which have been accorded to the states.

The Constitution has given absolute powers to the states to bring legislations and also executive powers. Practically, the centre is depriving states of its powers.

The TRS demanded the centre to scrap new power acts and Dam safety acts which are detrimental to the states. The one nation – one registration and one nation- one market policies are part of consolidating the powers of the centre and weaken the states.

The TRS, through another resolution, also demanded the union government to reduce spiralling prices of essential commodities and took strong exception to the centre’s indifference towards solving price hike issue.

It said the wrong economic policies adopted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi put heavy burden on common man. Middle classes are struggling hard due to price burden. Even as the crude oil prices have gone down, the Central government was increasing fuel prices indiscriminately.

Eyeing political benefits, the Central government reduced fuel prices for some time. The party resolved to expose the Centre’s failure in the control of prices.

The TRS party extended gratitude to the Telangana government for procuring paddy in the current season after the union government turned down the state plea to purchase paddy directly from farmers.

The party criticised the union government for its failure in resolving the paddy procurement issue amicably. The centre adopted anti-farmer policies which includes reducing subsidy in fertilisers and put heavy burden on farmers. The increase of petrol and diesel prices also mounted the input cost of the farming. The party resolved it will not compromise on farmers issues.

The ruling TRS of Telangana state has demanded the union government to enhance quota to the deserved communities in education and employment based on their social conditions.

The TRS has been demanding to increase quota for Muslims to 12 per cent from 4 per cent in proportionate of the population. The ST reservation should also be increased to 10 per cent. The government adopted resolutions in support of quota hike and sent the same to the centre for approval in April 2017 but there was no response from the union government.

The TRS plenary demanded the union Government to adopt a bill extending 33 per cent reservation for women in the Parliament.

The TRS already adopted a resolution in support of women reservation in the legislative bodies in the state Assembly and sent it to the centre for consideration. The Telangana government is already implementing 50 per cent reservation in local bodies for women . The TRS criticised that the BJP led union government is not sincere in women empowerment.

0

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is celebrating its 21st foundation day across Telangana on Wednesday.

TRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao led the party in celebrating the occasion with the hoisting of party flag at the party plenary.

KCR, as Rao is popularly known, hoisted part flag at Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC), the venue of the day-long plenary.

The TRS chief paid floral tributes to Telangana thalli or mother Telangana. Speaking on the occasion, he termed TRS the “asset” of Telangana people.

He said that TRS which is entering 22nd year of its existence remain the only force which is working for the self-respect of Telangana and striving to safeguard the interests of people of Telangana.

As many as 3,000 party leaders including state ministers, MPs, state legislators and other public representatives are attending the day-long meeting, which is expected to lay down the roadmap to score a hat-trick of electoral victories inA in the 2023 Assembly polls.

The plenary will discuss 11 issues and pass resolutions. Finance minister Harish Rao said the Centre’s discrimination against Telangana and the failures of Narendra Modi government on all fronts are the issues to be discussed in the plenary.

KCR is also likely to give clarity on national alternative he proposes to forge.

The foundation day celebrations were organised on a grand scale at Telangana Bhavan, the TRS headquarters. TRS working president K. T. Rama Rao hoisted the part flag. He garlanded statue of Telangana thalli and also cut a cake on the occasion. A 40-feet flag of the party was specially prepared for the celebration.

TRS foundation day celebrations were also held across the state.

The party cadres hoisted the party flag in all towns and villages.

According to TRS leaders, party’s village presidents will hoist the party flag in all 12,769 villages. Similarly, there will be flag-hoisting in 3,600 towns.

This is after a gap of two years that TRS will be holding foundation celebrations on a grand scale. For the last two years, the celebrations were low-key due to Covid-19 pandemic.

In October last year, the party held its plenary at HICC. KCR was re-elected as party president.

KCR floated the TRS on April 27, 2001 to revive the movement for separate state.

After the formation of Telangana in 2014, he has been heading both the government and the party.
