U Turn Overseas Collections

Star actress Samantha Akkineni’s first lady oriented film U Turn has been receiving  decent reviews from audience and critics alike after its release on Vinayaka Chaviti. The film, an official remake of Kannada hit with the same title, has opened to lukewarm collections in overseas. But, the positive reviews and good word of mouth have helped the collections to improve towards the weekend. 


After collecting $ 10K and $ 28K on Wednesday and Thursday, the film notched up $ 59K on Friday and showed strong growth in revenues. Despite limited release and competition from Shailaja Reddy Alludu, the mystery thriller has managed to draw audience in overseas. With the weekend setting in, U Turn is expected to draw good numbers in the next couple of days.  


Samantha impressive performance and the gripping narration are the biggest assets for U Turn. Directed by Pawan Kumar, the film has Aadhi Pinisetty and Rahul Ravindran in crucial roles.

U turn has taken a good opening in Telugu States with a distributor share of over 1 Crore. The film has utilized the advantage of holiday as it has registered fulls in Multiplexes & Single Screens of A centres from matinees. Theatrical rights of the film for Telugu states are valued at  7 Cr which is similar to the full run of recent Superhit Goodachari. In Comparison that film has collected 65 lakhs share on it’s opening day but that was dude to non-holiday release. U Turn is carrying better reports that the other yesterday release and weekend is going to be very crucial for the film.

Samantha – Pawan Kumar ‘s U turn is gearing up for a grand release on the 13th of this month ie, tomorrow. Worldwide theatrical rights of the film including expenses are valued at 9.50 Cr which is a very good number in producer’s point of view considering the buzz which the film carrying for now.The film can take decent opening with festival advantage tomorrow but word of mouth is going to be very crucial to recover the costs.

Table profits for Samantha’s U Turn

Reigning star Samantha’s maiden female centric film has fetched profits for her producer even before its release. It is well known that U Turn, a Telugu – Tamil bilingual thriller which is an official remake of Kannada thriller, starring Samantha in the lead role is releasing this Friday.

Made on a limited budget of 15.5 Crores, the film’s theatrical rights in Telugu have been snapped for nearly 6 Crores. Including the Tamil and other area rights, the producer is likely to recoup majority of his investment even before the film’s release. The satellite and other digital rights will be an additional bonus.

As Samantha delivered back to back hits this year, U Turn is expected to take a good opening given her craze among movie goers. The film is releasing for Vinayaka Chaviti all over.

In what could be a rare box office clash, Akkineni star couple Naga Chaitanya and Samantha are going to compete with their upcoming films Shailaja Reddy Alludu and U Turn. Both these films are slated to hit the screens on September 13th on the eve of Vinayaka Chaviti festival.

As the release date is fast approaching, both Chay and Sam are gearing up to promote their respective films bigtime. Reportedly, they will take part in promotional activities together. As it is rare instance that a husband and wife vie at box office, both stars have decided to mutually promote each other’s films.

Shailaja Reddy Alludu was supposed to release in August, but the delay in post production pushed the date to September 13th. The makers of U Turn also locked the same date after getting a nod from Samantha. As both films are of different genre, they are hoping that audience will embrace them equally though they are releasing on the same day.

Samantha holds an unparalleled feat of being the only Indian actress to be part of 14 films that have crossed one million dollar in the USA. In 2018 alone, Samantha has been already part of two supremely successful million dollar movies such as Rangasthalam ($3.5M) and Mahanati ($2.56M).

The premieres of the film have been scheduled on September 12th in the USA, a day before the film’s official Indian theatrical release on September 13th for the Ganesh Chaturthi weekend.

An official remake of Kannada film U-Turn, this Tamil, Telugu bilingual is directed by Sandalwood filmmaker Pawan Kumar, who shot to fame through the blockbuster Lucia. It must be noted that it was Pawan Kumar who helmed the widely-acclaimed original Kannada version of U-Turn.

The theatrical trailer of the film, which released a few days back, has grabbed the attention of netizens on social media platforms and received rave reviews.

From AR Murugadoss to Anirudh Ravichander, celebrities have showered praise on the trailer and expressed their eagerness to watch the film, which is produced by Chhitturi Venkata Srinivasaa Rao garu & Rambabu Bandaru garu under his home banner Srinivasaa Silver Screen & V.Y. Combines.

Also starring Aadhi Pinisetty, Rahul Ravindran, and Bhumika Chawla in important roles, U-Turn marks Samantha’s first women-centric film and is eagerly anticipated by her fans. Samantha has walked the extra mile by dubbing in her own voice for the film.

The makers of Shailaja Reddy Alludu are keen on releasing the film on September 13th and if this happens, U Turn will have to find a new release date. As October is packed with releases, U Turn will sure struggle to get a comfortable release. The makers of the film are in plans to advance the release. The makers of Nag’s DevaDas are not in a mood to change the release date. A good clarity on the release dates is expected once Shailaja Reddy Alludu release date gets out.
