Things You Should Know about Mayabazar!

There are very few movies in Telugu Cinema where everything fell in place so perfectly and it is hard to find a flaw in any of the 24 crafts associated with it. One such amazing black and white movie is Mayabazar starring Sr.NTR, ANR, SVR , Savitri and many more stalwarts. The film redefined many aspects of cinema with its crystal clear making, style and brilliance of celluloid. The film completes 61 glorious years by today and here are some of the fun facts about the film:

There is an interesting way in which the characters of Mayabazar are named. The name of the maid under Sasirekha who gets slapped by the character is Champa (Means cheek in Telugu).

The reference of Savitri and Satyavantudu is made when Lord Krishna (Sr.NTR) speaks about Abhimanyu referring to him as Satyavantudu to his wife Rukmini! Ingenious and witty way of referring multiple epic stories in one place!

The characters also have specific one liners which make them even more special. For example, Dussasana- the follower of Duryodhana always says the line “Mari Mana Takshana Kartvayam” with an air of sycophancy.

The team of Ghatotkacha (SVR) always use the war cry Hai Hai Nayaka to motivate themselves and have a surge positivity.

Mayabazar also has the credit of introducing some fun terminologies which are downright hilarious such as Talpam, Gilpam, Kambali, Kimbali.

The fun references of a Telugu wedding where the bridegroom party gives a tough time to bride’s family is brilliantly shown in the second half throughout. However, it is Ghatotkacha’s impersonation of Sasirekha which turns the tables around!

The child artist who played the role of baby Lord Krishna in the song Vinnava Yashodamma is none other than Bollywood actress Rekha’s brother Babjee.

The song Aha Naa Pellanta has its origins from 1949 Hindi version named Mohe Dulhan Banade Sakhi.

Vivaha Bhojanambu has western influences where the stage artists used have it as a background music named Mexican Merry Go Round. It also has references to The Laughing Policeman from the year 1922.

The songs in Mayabazar have simple Telugu language and Pingali Nagendra Rao did fantastic job in writing such terms for a mythological theme of this sort.

Mayabazar will remain to be one of the greatest films ever made in Telugu cinema and makes every Telugu audience proud for generations to come!
