TPCC president slams TS Govt for booking sedition case against Rahul Gandhi

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Monday found fault with the State Government over registration of FIR against AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi and few other Congress leaders.

A case of sedition against Congress leader was registered in Saroornagar Police Station on Sunday.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the lawyer who filed FIR was unaware of the Law and its provisions about sedition. Reddy alleged that lawyer Nagender, who was responsible for the case, was AGP (Assistant Government Pleader) in Transport Department and was a member of ABVP. “The lawyer is ABVP member. It means he is a BJP affiliate and also AGP in government department. I want to know as to how TRS Government is involved in filing of these cases and in what capacity the lawyer has filed cases”, he said.

He said that despite the apparent guidelines of Supreme Court that only in the case of abetment for widespread violence, sedition cases can be filed against any person, this case was lodged against Congress leaders. “Congress party severely condemns this act of filing cases against Congress leaders”, he said.

” Rahul Gandhi belongs to the family which played a key role in the struggle of independence whereas the ABVP and BJP has nothing like this to its credit. Rather, the mother organization of BJP and ABVP, the RSS has not done anything for the independence of the country and supported the British rulers,” Uttam said.

“When all the members of constituent assemblies in the year 1939 resigned to press the British government, RSS leader Shyama Prasad Mukherjee did not resign and has given written assurances to British government during Quit India Movement,” he added.

Earlier, he said that the State Government has removed nearly 26 Sub-Castes from the list of BC category which would be a sheer injustice to those castes. These castes were included in BC category during the united AP and TS government removed those. “We will surely raise this issue in the next assembly session”, he said.
