TS CM flies to Mumbai to sign crucial pacts

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandresekhar Rao on Tuesday flown to Mumbai in a special aircraft from Begumpet airport to sign Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with the Maharashtra government for construction inter-state irrigation projects along the Pranahitha, the Penganga and the Godavari rivers.

The Telagana Ministers along with the irrigation officials, who had already reached Mumbai, received KCR. The pacts will be signed between KCR and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devender Fadnavis at Sahayadri guest house in Mumbai at 3pm.

On Monday, the Maharashtra government gave permission for construction of three barrages below the Penganga project in the wake of delay in inter-state lower Penganga project works which include Rajapet, Koratte- Chenakke and Pinpahad barrages. People in Adilabad, Jainath, Bela Tamsi mandals will be able to irrigate 63,500 acres with the construction works in progress on Koratte-Chenakke barrage.

This is the third visit for Chief Minister KCR to visit Mumbai in the past two years. During his previous visit in 2014, KCR discussed the pending projects with the Maharashtra government on Godavari. It may be recalled that the Maharshtra government had raised objection in constructing Tummadi Hatti barrage at a height of 152 metres and urged the government to bring it down to 148 metres.
