Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara said that their government has been considering to impose a 5-year ban on construction of new apartment complexes in Bengaluru capital city limits. This is due to the inability of builders to show water supply sources for the prospective residents. There are also concerns of polluted water being supplied to the stakeholders.

Already, there’s a heavy strain on the existing facilities and resources due to which many residents are facing water shortage issues.

The country’s technology capital is the worst-hit in terms of ground water exploitation and overuse of the other natural resources. There have been no required plans or project’s to protect, preserve and replenish the water bodies for future generations.

These problems are there in most urban metropolitan cities but Bengaluru suffered the most in the past three decades because of rapid urbanization, rural migration and exploitation of water bodies. Chennai City is also facing its worst drinking water crisis in recent years.
