Gowtham Sawang, IPS, is expected to replace present DGP RP Thakur in AP. Gowtham is presently serving as the Director General, Vigilance and Enforcement. Thakur is being replaced as he got politically entangled in the fight between TDP and YCP leaders during the Kodi Kathi incident and also during electioneering.
A 1986 batch IPS officer, Sawang was born on July 10, 1963. He earlier worked as SP of Chittoor and Warangal and as DIG of Warangal range. As his appointment as DGP is certain, Sawang is supervising the arrangements being made for the swearing-in ceremony of YS Jaganmohan Reddy in Vijayawada on May 30.
Sawang has also worked as the Vijayawada City Police Commissioner for some time.
