Telugu girl Sobhita Dhulipala is creating quite a wave across the country, and more importantly in the Telugu community. This 23-year-old model-turned actress’ recent stint in Anurag Kashyap’s Raman Raghav 2.0 has earned her a nomination at the Cannes Film Festival. And what’s more she has even signed a three film deal with the director’s production house Phantom.

With all this talent, one wonders why she hasn’t made it to the Telugu film industry yet. And answering this question, she revealed something in an interview with a leading English daily recently. “Of course! But the thing is I moved to Mumbai when I was 16 and I haven’t interacted with the Telugu film industry a lot and do not have familiarity,” she said, explaining the situation she’s in.

While she is interested in being a part of Tollywood, she expressed that she sees apprehension in filmmakers to actually look for Telugu girls. “I think a lot of people do say that the industry needs Telugu girls and seem keen too. But I feel people aren’t as keen as they say they are. But if you really want them to be a part of the industry you need to seek them out. Because when girls like me go out and work in another industry, starting from scratch, it means there’s certain passion in them, right? As a 23-year- old, how can I make it happen? I can only give my 100 per cent if I am given an opportunity, kada?” she explained. Well, that’s actually an interesting point to make. Are T-Towner’s listening.
