Telangana’s Industry Minister K T Rama Rao these days tuning as a promoter of hand-loom clothes and encouraging all people’s representatives, government officials and even journalist to atleast wear these cloths once in a week. He himself started wearing white handloom clothes. It may be recalled his Sircilla constituency is globally famous for its handloom weaving sector. He announced that on the first working day of the week (Monday), he would wear handloom clothes.

At a Telangana State Press Academy programme, he requested journalists, especially those who appear before camera, to wear handloom clothes and encourage weavers and support the industry. “If news anchors who appear before the camera start wearing the handloom clothes, common people will get inspired and practise the same,” he said.

The Minister felt if people adopt handloom clothes in their day-to-day life, they can help the weavers get sufficient work which can bring them out from distress. Last week, he presented handloom clothes produced by the Telangana State Handloom Cooperative Society (TSCO) to all legislators in the Assembly lobby requesting them to promote the use of handloom clothes.

The TSCO has launched `Cheneta Lakshmi’ scheme under which if a member pays Rs 1,000 per month for nine months, he would get Rs 14,400 worth of handloom clothes in the tenth month. TSCO also making efforts to sell its products online through Amazaon, Flipkart and other leading online stores apart from TSCO’s website.
